PoliticsRe: Arase Reduces Number Of Policemen Attached To Governors From 150 To 62 by IbokUtoroh(m): 11:32am On Aug 31, 2015

Governors have lost a chunk of their security detail as a result of the reorganisation of the functions of police officers and men.

Police security attached to the governors has been reduced to a maximum of 62 men – which is a unit – according to Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase.

Hitherto some governors had 150 policemen to secure them.

Arase, who spoke in Lagos at the weekend, said the police were worried that too many of their officers and men were doing jobs other than their core police duties, yet they were being promoted.

“When these people now have to be deployed from these special assignments back to their core duties, they may have lost touch,” he said.

According to him, that was behind the decision to withdrawal security from unauthorised persons who use police orderlies for personal aggrandisement rather than as a result of a real threat to their lives. Such people, he said, should find other ways to secure themselves.

He denied that policemen working with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were recalled to undermine the anti-corruption crusade of the government.

According to him, policemen working in other agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), NAPTIP, ICPC and others, who had stayed more than five years, were recalled to be replaced with another set, if necessary.

He said the EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Lamorde requested the retention of some of them because they were on special assignments, which, he said, he agreed to do.

The Police Service Commission said last week that a special squad would be deployed on the highways and airports to stop policemen doing illegal guard duties.

Arase said deployment of policemen for guard duties had ensured that of the about 305, 000 policemen engaged by the government, only about 150,000 were available for core duties.

He added that 40,000 policemen across ranks were due to attend promotion courses which he would ensure as soon as funding is available.

The recruitment of 10,000 policemen as announced by the Federal Government would have to wait till next year when there would be budget for it, Arase said adding that only the best hands would be recruited to ensuring that people of integrity are hired.

He expressed his determination to build a data base crime investigation with the support of a $10millon grant from a foreign country.

“I assure you that I will leave the police better than I met it at the end of my tenure next year,” he said.

These states have been in comatose since GEJ's time and he couldn't find a way to solve the problems despite having Harvard schooled ministers in his team.

PMB has again succeeded in alleviating the economic woes of the states workers especially by granting long term loan at a single digit interest rate.

We can only imagine what additional economic benefits this injection of massive cash will do to the economy.

There is no bigger evidence of PDP's hypocrisy than this Wike - Amaechi saga.

PDP and her supporters see absolutely nothing wrong in Wike probing only Amaechi's government, despite the fact he had many that occupied the office before him, but they see everything wrong in Buhari probing only Jonathan's government, and use bull horns to scream from every single rooftop that he begins his probe from Lord Lugard.

Only fools fall for their hollow gimmicks.

PoliticsRe: Probe: Jonathan Holds Meeting With Ex-ministers by IbokUtoroh(m): 9:35am On Aug 31, 2015
ORACLE1975:
I must say I like the bold move of the Jonathan Ministers because from my humble but candid observation, I think the APC has no
agenda and they represents a crop of old and failed politicians who are bereft
of leadership ideas and experiences. Each time I read news from Nigeria, I am
appalled by the arrogant insinuations of the APC and its bad mouthing the
Jonathan administration, even though it is no longer in power. This APC
strategy is one clear characteristic of poor and inexperienced leadership.
While I am not a politician and would never want to be, I would very much love
to contribute my quota to develop Nigeria when I come home. I want APC to learn
from great leaders like the pragmatic and resilient Barack Obama. When Obama
came to power in 2008, the US economy was so bad that it was in deep recession.
The magnitude of such economic disaster impacted the whole global economy that
it plunged into a level as bad as the great depression. Obama did not rule by
making Bush a reference point at every instances or wasting his time conducting
any probe of the Bush administration. Instead, he tackled the problems he met
head long. It is to Obama's credit that the world was steered out of recession
and the global economy became flamboyant once again. Unemployment rate in the
US is now 5.2% down from 9.1% when Obama took power. Even at this present time
when global oil prices have fallen, and big economies like Russia and China are
seeing their surpluses turn to deficit, the US can boast of having one of the
strong economy in the world. The lesson is simple: good leaders do not look for
scapegoats for their own failures. They do not continue pointing accusing
fingers each time reality stare them on the face. They instead put plugs to contain
the problems and stop them from getting worse. The present Nigerian leadership
seems not to know the problem facing the nation. They dont seem to have ideas. The
only ideas they seem to have is how to demonize PDP and cast aspersions on the
people who served the country in the last administration. Noise making, we all
know, cannot solve problems. Noises about stolen funds and waiting until the
funds are recovered before one can start ruling is cheap blackmail. When Buhari
came to power years back, among the problems he said he is fighting was
nepotism. But nepotism of sort is what Nigeria is seeing from his current appointments.
The President should roll out his agenda and his plans to make Nigeria great
even with the limited resources he met on ground. His ability to start working
and not talking about money that has already been spent, will engrave his name
in the annals of history. We Nigerians both home and in diaspora are ready to
work with him. Throwing muds and casting aspersions all the time is getting too
boring and stale, and is a sign of rascality, ineptitude, and an area boy
approach to politicking. It is only in Nigeria and Africa that such leadership
trait is lauded as an achievement. Dear President Buhari, history beckons on
you. Do not let people who have malice and hatred in their heart or axes to
grind drag you into their tirade. If you should be angry over anything, your
anger should be directed at audit Departments in all the Ministries and
parastatals where lootings took place. They earn fat salaries for doing no job,
and they drive shinny cars and live in luxurious homes, and now want you to abandon
your enormous job of governance and do their jobs of checking ledgers.
BUHARI PLEASE SETTLE DOWN.

Why is he not probing what happened to ptf n how the contracts were awarded?
Why is he afraid to include obj's tenure in the armed procurement probe? Was thr no armed procurement during obj's tenure? Was thr no budgetary allocation for ministry of defence?

I cant help but totally agree with the Op. The 2015 elections have come and gone and the nation should have moved forward but the south still fights everyday across the political lines of APC vs PDP.

Whenever PMB appoints a northerner, the northerners (pdp+apc) just unite and accept the individual. However, whenever PMB appoints or attempts to appoint a southerner, we see all sorts of opposition and 'pull-him-down' syndrome at work from fellow southerners across the PDP vs APC lines. Now even the few manageable men like Fashola have been rubbished and we wonder why Buhari's appointments are pointing in the direction that southerners are corrupt.
wike is probing amaechi which is justified, can u recalled what amaechi told wike?

Since I have been on nairaland and read most political posts, I can only help but laugh at how all of a sudden we have become so caring about our own.

I am not writing to defend anybody or in defense of any party but to expose our betrayal in the south......

GEJ failed not because he was a southern but because he failed the nation at large. He allowed corruption to thrive thoroughly, at times he appeared clueless sometimes he appeared intelligent but all put together showed he lacked the quality of true leadership.

There had been lot's of out cry about lopesided appointment of the Buhari led government, the question is who do we really blame for our woes?? Is it the north or the stupidity of the south??
Being honest the south in its stupidity and hatred towards her own schemed her own out of the political calculations,

First the senate president would have been from the SE if only they had not allowed their hatred for APC to override their sense of judgement.

2nd because Fashola and Amechi were being considered for different offices of high ranking what did the south do to her own?? We rubbished their personality all because we want to paint them as black horses, few questions I will want to raise; was Amechi more ccorrupt than Uduaghan of delta state?? Is Fashola more corrupt than Tinubu?? But fashola's iimage has been tarnished and may nt be consider for any appointment in Buhari's admin.

I will still bring to our remembrance when buhari appointed an Ijaw to head the amnesty program a group in ND raised up to complain about the appointment of an ijaw man,

Finally i raised this issues for the South to stop shouting marginalization no body is mmarginalizing us we marginalize ourselves by hating on our own......

Long live the SS
Long live southern Nigeria
Long live the federal republic of Nigeria
Sai Buhari......

Let the whole leaders of the south unite for the southern agenda
