I got this from another forum and I feel it may interest some of us here... One very fascinating aspect of this- is that you can actually APPEAL a denial.. We don't want denials; but this suggests that we shouldn't give up without a "fight" (not physical fight o!)... Ok here it goes:

Resolved Question:

i went for an DV visa interview and was told that my high grades are low so am not qualified.?

i have 4 passes but i was enroll in an institution where i spent more than three years and obtain an advance diploma in business studies? if my grades are low, why cant my advance diploma be considered? i follow the DV instruction which says high school graduate or equivalent and i am one. so why would i rejected when i even have more than high school qualification? and what should i do?

DV Applicants are interviewed like other US immigrant visa applicants and are subject to the same rules to determine your eligibility for visa issuance.

Successful DV entrants must be eligible to receive a visa by qualifying based on education, work, and other requirements. The law and regulations require that every DV entrant must have at least:
(1) A high school education or its equivalent; or (2) Two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years' training or experience.

Since this denial is a question of law, you are allowed to appeal the refusal or have the decision reconsidered.

Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides a maximum of up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit immigration opportunities for persons from countries other than the principal sources of current immigration to the United States. The Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) passed by Congress in November 1997 stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually-allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program. This reduction has resulted in the DV-2011 annual limit being reduced to 50,000. DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

temmytanny: I dont think its up to $200,far less than $50.Your transcripts will be graded in to points and that will determine where to continue your education here in US.I have a friend that was told to do 9months BSC before he can go for his Masters,i dont think its bad at all.
Any job you apply online here will ask you if you wanna continue to your career,if you click yes,you will see velocity of mails and calls you will get regarding careers here, attimes i get frustrated. As a family man,job first ,settled down ,more money in pocket tru mini jobs before going back to school.Things are flexible here that you can merge you edu with jobs.
Thanks for making it clearer bro... I'm glad it is $50 and not $200... That makes it a lot easier... And yea, you're right- a 9-month BSC make up isn't bad at all- after all time flies these days...
Travel › Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by Ibracadabra: 8:14am On Nov 17, 2012
laura da brat: yeah me too.i am really interested in the answer.
As per transcripts, I understand that most US schools would require that you have your transcripts evaluated by WES... In other words, that your school mails your transcripts to WES- which evaluates it for a fee (about $200) and then WES sends your evaluated transcript to your school of choice...

I don't know how it works for all schools; but I doubt most US schools would take a Nigerian transcript hand delivered by you... If your school in Nigeria is sending it directly to them, that may b accepted as well... Like I said, these conditions could vary from school to school...

tosrich: Like I said, my host came to pick me up at the airport by road so I dont realy know if you can get a BUS or arange to connect another flight to Minnesota.
secondly, I boarded ETIHAD AIRLINE while I was coming and we had about 10hrs of stop over at the ABU DHABI Airport, you wont be allowed to leave the airport premises because you dont have their visa, I slept in the airport till the followig morning to catch up with my fligh and I was giving meal ticket for DINNER AND BREAKFAST. I you are going to be having a stop-over too, try to wear cloth that can protect you well because of cold.

I used the birth certificate from birth, so I did'nt collect anything from NPC.
Thanks a lot... All the points you've made have been duly noted... How much did ETIHAD charge you from Lagos to Chicago?

And how's life in Minnesota on d job front? Any success stories on your end as regards that?
Travel › Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by Ibracadabra: 12:35am On Nov 16, 2012
loconzo00: I fly frequently. Trust me. At times you receive discounts when you book through agents ( reputable ones though)
Loconzo00- I'm really curious about d flight thing... I agree with your earlier assessment that Qatar is still d cheapest... For example; I saw a Qatar Airline flight for 136k to JFK new york! And I gave that date to an agent to check what his cost will be- and he charged me 190k on d same date and flight I saw online... That's like 50k gain for him... Since u fly often;I just wanna ask- Don't you think that walking into Qatar Airlines office in Murtala Mohd Airport in Lagos to book my flight will b cheaper?...

Secondly, if u have so much faith in your agent, could you please drop his number so others can benefit from his services- or at least give us a price range of his costs
Travel › Re: Diversity Visa Immigrant? Welcome To America by Ibracadabra: 12:23am On Nov 16, 2012
tosrich: My advice is that you should look for a flight going to CHICAGO because its more closer to MINNESOTA. This is because you can't attempt to come to Minnesota by road from New York, its like driving from Nigeria to Tunisia....
from Chicago to Minnesota by road is around six(6) hours which is still reasonable and you will enjoy it because there are good roads everywhere. When I was coming , I came in through Chicago and my host drove to the airport to pick me.
from NEW YORK - MINNESOTA is a long thing.
Thanks Tosrich; I have been waiting for your input...

So did you get a bus from Chicago to Minnesota? How much did you pay for bus fare and is d bus station close to d airport? Pls shed some light on this...

I just found out that some of these airlines- like Qatar airlines have their offices in Lagos and even at d airport... For those of u here who have some experience on this: is it cheaper to walk to their office to book or are agents cheaper?

Thirdly, I was looking at sample flight itinerary for Qatar airlines and I noticed that flight usually take off Lagos by 2:55pm and reach Doha by midnight (11:55pm) then there is a gap of 8 hours before d next flight leaves by 8 am d next day... My question is: what did u guys (those that used Qatar Airways) do during those long 8 hours? Is there any place to sleep- how exactly do u burn that time?

Finally, for those who used their NPC attestation of birth- did u also bring along your High Court affidavit to d interview or did u just bring you NPC attestation of birth... Thank u and forgive my long essay: but my interview is next week and I plan to spend my christmas in d land of the free
Travel › Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by Ibracadabra: 3:11pm On Nov 15, 2012

Thanks a lot Adesoji... God bless u... Since buses are cheaper, I'd like to know if there are any airports closer to Minnesota- say 5 hours or less... If you've got an idea, it'll b appreciated; if not, I'll stick to your initial suggestion and just book a flight over d counter at JFK...
Travel › Re: Diversity Visa Immigrant? Welcome To America by Ibracadabra: 2:52pm On Nov 14, 2012
Hello guys... My interview is around d corner and I hope to be a full member of this house before d year runs out... smiley ... I have a few questions about settling in:

1. I am an ardent Blackberry user. I'm sure some of u were before your journey to America. I want to know some of d cheapest networks that offer BIS subscription in America and by how much. If possible- suggest also d preferred networks that cost less to call back home (Nigeria)

2. I'm coming to Minessota and I have discovered that d cheapest flights I can get are to JFK New York- using Qatar Airlines. My question is- when I get to NY, how easy is it to book another flight to Minessota (without booking online first)... Is it a straightforward process to work to d counter and pay cash for a flight? If u have done this before, are d costs d same as those shown online? (Online- with about $200 I can get a flight from JFK to my destination...

The reason I'm asking this is because Qatar Airways have to stop and experience long delays before arriving america.. And if I booked online a flight from JFK to Minnesota- I might miss d exact time I booked due to delays...

Kindly assist me from your wealth of Experience

Gentiger: Did they demand to see your 2NL before running the tests?
No, they didn't ask for any 2ND NL before running d tests...

@gunners4u are u sure u can have your vaccines on wednesday and collect your results on the same wednesday? It doesn't sound right to me- and since your interview is thursday, I'll advice you to make sure your facts are right... If they assured u that u can do your vaccination and get results on d same day, then I wish you all d best bro...
