African tech and start up ecosystem 2018 report.

According to the WeeTracker’s Venture Investments Report 2018, USD 725.6 Mn was invested across 458 deals — a 300% gigantic leap in the total funding amount and over 127% increase in the number of deals as compared to 2017.

In terms of the number of deals, all inclusive, NIGERIA outperformed all other location with a total of 136 deals. South Africa, which gave it a close competition stood second with 107 deals followed by Kenya with 73 deals.

That's because you did your calculation yearly instead of quarterly.
For Example
2019 growth is 2.26pct.
2.26% * 397/100 = 8.9bn * 4 (4 quarters in a year Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) = 35bn.
35bn + 394bn (2018 data) = 432bn.

Mind you this is a rough calculation.

You need to learn some basic facts.Economic growth is compounded.Not linear.In 15yrs kenya economy has grown by more than 7 times and if it maintain that momentum then it will probably double by 2024.Nigeria in that period despite cooked rebasing has grown from 200s to 300s billion dollars.Then again learn about demographic dynamics.Pop growth is also compounded.kenya pop growth is down to 2.5% while Nigeria still at 4%.You compound economic and population growth rate..then factor currency appreciation or depriciation..and then factor oil dynamics for your oil dependant economy...and dont be suprised if kenya overtakes Nigeria before 2030.As for per capita i think we already did that...we have pop of 47m and our gdp is 90b..that nearly 2000usd per capita.

All this gibberish you are saying has already been taken into account before the forecasts were made. These forecasts were made by professionals, real economists not by someone on Nairaland who measures "everything per capita"

This is my last say on the matter. Check the value of Nigeria and Kenya's GDP for 2018, write the differences down, then check the forecast from now till 2022, again write the differences down, then check whether there is an increment or not. (pics attached)

It is not 2022 yet so let's not talk about it. However, I know if the current trend is to go by, Kenya's GDP per capita will be more than double Nigeria's in 2022.

Next time get your facts right before jumping into a conversation.

Me and your fellow Kenyans were talking about 2018-2022 based on the picture provided by your fellow Kenyan.

My statement was "even though Kenya is growing three times more than Nigeria, the gap between Nigeria and Kenya will keep increasing because the value of Nigeria's 2pct is more than Kenya's 8pct"

All our analysis was for 2018-2022.

And nope. Kenya's GDP per capita will not be higher than Nigeria's.

In 2013, Nigeria's GDP was $515 billion and Kenya's GDP was $55 billion - a gap of $460 billion.

In 2018, Kenya's GDP grew to $90 bilion and Nigeria's GDP dropped to $350 billion. A gap of $$260 billion.

Is that an increase or a drop? Go see a doctor.

Kenya closed the gap because of recession.

Check the differences now 2018 and compare it with how it will be in 2022 and tell me there is no increment.
