Car Talk › Re: Anything Wrong With The 2007 Toyota Camry XLE V6? by icemann(m): 6:23pm On Nov 21, 2014 |
FransixOsita: Guys, i am close to closing a deal for a 2007 Camry XLE with V6 engine. The car comes with the thumbstart and looks really great. I have test-driven and its really smooth and comfortable, and the transmission doesn't have any issue. The car is registered, so i took my mechanic to go check it out and he scared me to death. He likes the engine, but says the gearbox is generally troublesome (though it is working perfectly now and he didnt test drive). He also says the thumbstart is a big risk as it will be a huge challenge to fix if it develops a fault.
What are your thoughts please? How reliable is the gearbox and the thumbstart of the 2007 camry XLE V6?
Appreciate u guys Give that Mech. a crayon and some colouring book (He is not smarter than a toddler) |
Car Talk › Re: Bad Fuel And Vehicle Speed .... by icemann(m): 6:12pm On Nov 21, 2014 |
ZIMDRILL: and you thought a bearing would stop your car from accelerating ? a worn bearing will just make noise it wont affect the the speed Really? Sorry but i think you should reconsider that statement. A really worn bearing would cause your car to drift to oneside and wear out your tires very quick. mecussey: Friction opposes motion and a good bearing is their to reduce friction. I think it does affect the speed expecially when the greesing is dry. Or, are my mistaken bearing for hub? I think the two works together Mr you are right. |

nissparts: Your readings seem normal, therefore the problem is either the quality of fuel or sticky brakes.
I would guess it's the fuel though Its definitely not the fuel, if it were the STFT value would be above 10%. That car is running fine the guy is just trolling he knows about cars. |

Car Talk › Re: 8.1MPG In City Compare To Expected 17MPG, Please What Could Cause This? by icemann(m): 1:00pm On Nov 20, 2014 |
domack99: Yes, the MPG is from the car trip computer. It reset on a daily basis, that's how i configured it, either reset daily, reset of refill or no reset at all, it gives the same value on the long run.
And no bearing sound as well. What type and where did get that scanner? |
Car Talk › Re: Installing Bull Bars On Suvs by icemann(m): 8:34pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
Personally i would advice Lagosians to mount a bull bar on their SUV. The way those buses drive you are better off having one.
Please where in Lagos can you do over 100kmph with potholes and holdup everywhere? The impact at lower speeds with a bull bar on is worth the risk. |

When i say brakes i mean check if the brakes are binding. And bearings are nosy when worn out. How did you get your MPG? From the car display? Did you reset it? |
Car Talk › Re: 8.1MPG In City Compare To Expected 17MPG, Please What Could Cause This? by icemann(m): 4:31pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
At this point we know your loss in MPG shouldn't be engine related maybe you should look at tires, bearings, breaks or your transmission is about to go bad. |

GAZZUZZ: And they were beefing me when I said buy new engine.
Bro I love your analysis. Thanks But buying new engine would not help. Cost of car before new engine = 300k Cost of car after 80k to 100k repairs = 300k So where is the economic advantage of the new engine? If he wanted to keep it cos of sentiments (ie classic cars or child hood fantasy) you don't do an economic analysis on it |

Car Talk › Re: Help! My Car Is Consuming Engine Oil And There's No Smoke From The Exhaust by icemann(m): 7:04pm On Nov 18, 2014 |
Sunymoore: Thanks boss. Waiting for the breakdown Your car is worth about 300k (assuming) you want to spend 80k on it( I assume the engine is 50k+labour+accessories + other expenses= 80-90k) So you spend 80k(and my go up to 100K if you decide to fix the steering) on a 300k car that's 1/3 of the value of the car . But if you sell the car and add the 100k(repair cost) + find like 50k more you can get a better looking car at 450k. 450k wouldn't get you the best car but this time shine your eyes. do enough research before you make a move. You can't be sure of the new engine because most cars of that model in the junk yard are over 200k miles. The chances of getting a good engine from the junk yard is low. My personal opinion would be keep your eye on the oil as you save for a newer car, let someone else deal with the fixing burden. Since you car is not smoking you would find a buyer. |

Sunymoore: Thanks for reasoning with me.. The engine was bought for 42K. I'll attach screenshot of the new place I parked the car yesterday. Edit : The SS. You can notice two leaks. The right one is surely the steering system but the other one is the engine leak I guess.. What the way out bro? If i were you, i would start budgeting for a new car. In the long run you would lose more economically. Would give you a breakdown when i got the time . But in the mean time use thicker oil like 10W 40 or 15W 40, you can even go as high as 20W but idle for a while in the mornings. |
Car Talk › Re: Help! My Car Is Consuming Engine Oil And There's No Smoke From The Exhaust by icemann(m): 4:12pm On Nov 18, 2014 |
Sunymoore: Oga easy.. I'm just using the car for school runs from 8 to maybe 4, after then I drive Pontiac for my town runs, so being smart or not is irrelevant here. The steering system is leaking like many (old) Honda cars so I thought it's the one that is leaking before. My Apologies but you cant keep giving half symptoms and expect us to give you a good answer. I hope you don't do that when you visit a Doctor. |

dellyosh: I'm going to write a relatively long post so you can understand where I'm coming from. I'm scared cos I've had two really bad experiences while purchasing vehicles. the first time was my uncle and family mechanic of over 10 years who advised me to buy from Cotonou. he took me there, we selected a car and came back only for him to deliver another car two weeks later. i almost fell out of that car two days later on the expressway. the worst part was that it was stolen a month after where i normally park it in front of my house. after that experience, my friends advised me to go for a Nigerian used which i did. i'm still paying the price for that one.
Now i intend to buy a car (an SUV cos of the size of my family). my plan was to get a sienna probably 2000-2002 ish. however, i do not have enough funds available. having done a lot of research, i realized that the funds that i have could get me other car models like the KIA sedona or the Nissan quest (my wife feels the quest is not fine lol).
do you guys think the KIA sedona is a good choice? or is there another model that i can buy? I have around 900,000 - 1,000,000 available.
please anyone help me be third time "lucky". No offence but that right there is funny . |

1. ABS 2. AWD 3. SLIP 4. Check Engine 5. VDC 6. Airbag light blinking
I hope this will help you give me a better explanation.
