BascoVanVeli: That's what you believe and that's fine but nobody can tell me how I should post.
Oga, when you are giving live updates like this after every story you say you give the scoreline and number of minutes played. With all your updates I had to resort to livescore.com to actually find out the score line and number of minutes played.
BascoVanVeli: An offside the cancelled the Libyans second goal on the day was the cause. 2 red cards were given out and one Libyan was hit by a linesman flag in self defence.
Kog45: Waheed Akanni is presently top gun in Lagos state sports circle.I think he work with Lagos state government regards sports.
In the 80s most of these guys value education even more than football, you should remember Akanni left for United States with Dehinde Akinlotan,Niyi Aderinoku known as OBODO now a big time oil magnate,Tajudeen Disu junior bro to coach Tunde Disu,Fatai Atere,Jonathan Akpoborie,Mike Emenalo,Augustine Igbinabaro,Mark Anunobi,Godwin Ekeh,Paul Okoku to further their education.
They went on MKO Abiola scholarship and some went through Chief Nathaniel Idowu the Father of great Athlete Phillip Idowu of Great Britain and some with the assistance of Anthony Ikhazoboh,Patrick Okpomo,Emeka Omeruo, and SB Williams.
In the 80s guys mixed sports with education and they are happy for it now
We really lost a good number to the academic world.
TheSuperNerd: Awwwwwwwn... Yet another angle to this. So he belongs to the U-20 class of 1985. Hmmm... Very talented class that was. Thanks for your time Chief..... Buuuttttttt.....
Why is it thay Chief Icon4s no dey easily forget those players wey break him heart....?
Just like I don't forget those that broke our hearts I don't forget those that made us proud.
Kog45: Whao what a history! Yes a member of Paul Halmjton U 20 team to Russia 85 but a fringe one who had only 7 minutes appearance against Canada cos we have better player In Augustine Igbinabairo.
This team produced Samson Siasia,Monday Odiaka,Osaro Obabaifo,Augustine Igbinabairo,Waheed Akanni,Andrew Uwe,Alloy Agu,Christian Obi,Ndubuisi Okosieme.
At Maroc 88 Okosieme had a good tourney cos i remember he had a goal against Kenya and in the final gave that superlative cross to Henry Nwosu which was disallowed for no reason. He had Wole Odegbami to contend with and their situation can be likened to that of Finidi and Tijani but that missed well one of those thing in football.
Yes Monday Odiaka failed woefully cos he was a player everyone expected to lighten maroc 88 but the presence of Yekini was just too overwhelming for him and his great partner Samson Siasia was not released by Lokeren for Afcon.A lot later realised that Siasia was the brain behind Odiaka,he fizzle out after Maroc 88
Truly Okosieme despite the talents failed to live up to expectations and still surprised why he left the stage so early cos i still remember his days in Flash Flamingos of Benin and ACB,this guy was damn good, great guy with Siasia in Flamingos.
Yeah you remind me of the other members of that team. Andrew Uweh also made the Maroc '88 team. He had a descent outing though. What ever happened to Waheed Akanni, dude just fizzled out so quickly after a great outing in Moscow '85. He was a house hold name though in the Nigerian league. Same goes for Obobaifo and Igbinabaro. Alloy Agu became Super Eagles number 1 from 1990 to 92.
That Flying Eagles team lost 2-0 to a stars studded Brazilian team in the semis. We played better than them if you recall. Monday Odiaka was a joint highest highest goal scorer in that WYC. As for him competing with Yekini , even greats like Victor Ikpeba and Jonathan Akpoborie could not displace the Yeking of goals.
TheSuperNerd: So we get Nigerian Garrincha? You sabi who be Garrincha?? That guy was magic oooo... But I know little of Okosieme Ndubuisi shaa... but little I read said he was quite the dribbler and ball dancer. Nothing much in terms of clips as compared to others I saw from way back... lol.... hmmm... Elders who watched Ndubuisi Okosieme go know shaa... I no go kee myself when the likes of Chief Icon4s, and Elder Sir Kog45 dey house upstairs naa... hehehehehehe
Nigeria's Garrincha: Victor Moses, Iwobi, Ndidi Will Be Too Hot For Argentina, Croatia To Handle
Former Super Eagles winger Ndubuisi Okosieme has opined that Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho will be Nigeria's key men at the World Cup and the quartet will cause Argentina, Croatia and Iceland problems.
Not taking into account the forfeited match against Algeria, Nigeria scored 11 goals during the African World Cup qualifiers with the quartet contributing to seven goals.
Moses, Iwobi, Ndidi and Kelechi have been named in Nigeria's 28-man roster for the international friendlies against Poland and Serbia later this month.
''I must confess to you that Rohr is doing very well. I went through the 28-man list that he just released for the two international friendlies and I concluded that Eagles mean business,'' Okosieme said to Nigerian Telegraph.
''I’m very happy with the current form of four of our players in top clubs in England. I see Moses, Iwobi, Iheanacho and Ndidi as players that will give Argentina and Croatia trouble.
''They will be too hot for our opponents to handle. Looking at the young crops of talented players we have in that list, Eagles will do wonders in Russia.''
Ndubuisi Okosieme, who was labelled the Nigerian Garrincha during his playing days, represented the Super Eagles at the 1988 African Cup of Nations.
Ndubuisi Okosieme. He was a product of the 1985 Flying Eagles. He alongside Monday Odiaka and Samson Siasia were some of the standout performers from that class.
But just like most other youth players of his time he failed to perform at the senior level.
Odiaka and Okosieme made the Maroc '88 Green Eagles team. A lot was expected of this duo but they didn't leave up to expectations.
The memories of his miss against Cameroon in that final still flashes through my memories alongside the disappointing scream from the late commentator Earnest Okonkwo: "Okosieme ooooo!!!!! ".
That was the last time we saw Ndubuisi Okosieme in the Super Eagles
Full of promises but failed to deliver at the senior level.
His younger Sister Nkeiruka Okosieme featured with the golden generation of the Super Falcons (late 90s to mid 2000s)
Over 90% of the Tunisian population live close to the Mediterranean. The region shares close weather relationship with the likes of Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Portugal.
So yes, the scorching sun at the Sani Abacha stadium will be tortuous to them.
Kick-off for that game was 8:45pm. It was played under freezing cold conditions and under flood lights. Two major factors that normally work against teams from the sub-Saharan Africa. Immediately I saw that kickoff time, I knew what will follow is a humiliating defeat.
Meanwhile Plateau United have moved their own game to 2pm. Hahahaha. Dem won take the Kano heat finish those Tunisians. Taking the weather as an advantage. I hope it works for them sha.
MetalJigsaw: Omeruo has only been average at best. Balogun has posted several outstanding performances in the Eagles shirt under Rohr. True or false?...
That's the issue... Imagine being loaned out five times by Chelsea.
Did you ever see Omeruo at the 2013 AFCON and 2014 WC?
MetalJigsaw: Omeruo needs to be consistent to be able to convince Rohr and Nigerians that he has improved (or he's back to his game). Just one good performance doesn't spring you up the perking order after so many dismal performances in a team where you have lost the coaches and the Fans' trust and attracting question marks about your quality as a player.
Balogun isn't really doing well for Eaglesin the last few games but he earned his loyalty and patience form the coach and we the fans with consistent and very impressive performances.
Aside the game against South Africa in 2014 and the mis-skewed header against Zambia in Ndola which are years apart tell which other game he had a dismal performance for the SE.
I know Balogun's past performances have been speaking for him but what of Omeruo's past performances? We're they not good enough to speak for him?
tbaba1234: Balogun had very strong displays before his apparent fall in form. The drop in fall coincided with less playing time at club level. His club appearances have improved now. In the games, where he was poor, he improved as the games progressed..
Against Argentina, Balogun had already improved his performance before he was removed. Infact, the Nigerian defence had improved a lot in the second half. Omeruo did very well, when he came on but it was not as if he stabilized the defence. The defence was not really under much pressure in that second half.
Anyway, let us see their performances in the friendlies first..
Bros, if it was another player that had the Balogun kind of display in those games, I don't think we will be saying the same story we are saying now.I know what I am talking about
No player should be above criticism. I didn't just want to carry on with that argument that day. And Lo it repeated itself against Argentina.
We cannot be having a player at the heart of the defence with a shaky start. We can find ourselves 3goals down within those 20-30mins of shakiness
I say again, if he gives out another shaky start in his next game, Rohr should please do the needful. We already have the headache of going to the WC with below par goalkeepers and then on top of it we will have one central defender with a shaky start. That can be suicidal!
You are only as good as your last game. In his last 3games he had shambolic first 30mins. We cannot afford that in the WC.
He has the next couple of friendlies to correct those previous poor run of games. Else..... hmmm
Balogun carried his poor run of games from the last 2 or 3 WC qualifiers into that Argentina game.
After the Algeria game I started raising questions about Balogun's dwindling form but Tbaba1234 and some others said Balogun should not be criticized.
Kenneth Omeruo came in for Balogun in the second half of the Argentina friendly and combined almost seamlessly well with Ekong and Awaziem. Nobody made a remark about that value added substitution. Omeruo brought stability to that backline. But no accolades for the lad. Why because it is Kenneth Omeruo, a player that is not on the good books of many here.
If Balogun continues with the kind of shambolic displays as he had in his last 3 games....well I trust Rohr to do the needful.
Nedfed: At times I laugh whenever I see/saw things done by the governing body of FIFA. How can a country has three ( Barca, Madrid, and Sevilla) clubs at the quarter final and non were pair together while the remaining two clubs from England ( Man-city and Liverpool) are paired to play each other? It clearly seen that FIFA always want a Spain club at the final if possible the final should be between Barca & Madrid.
congo4ka: That's a very good news My preferred formation against Poland
-----------------------Uzoho
Ebuehi-----Ekong------Balogun-------Idowu
-------------------Ndidi-----Etebo
-------------------------- Mikel
Moses----------Nacho-------------Iwobi
Sub: Etebo----> Joel Obi (45) Idowu-----> Aina (45) Iheanacho------->Ajayi (60) Balogun-----------> Awaziem (60) Iwobi------------>Gabrial Okechukwu (89)
A good line up.
I only have issues with your substitutions:
1. They are 100% like for like. This is hardly the case. What if one of those players you want to remove for a like is having an excellent game? 2. Putting the exact time of substitution. You never can predetermine that bro.
The dynamics of the game and the result at that point in time will tell you who and when to substitute. You may also need to switch formation which may not require a like for like substitution.
Kog45: I remember we had discussion on possibility of getting FBs for our youth team especially U20 and i was of opinion that it will be a huge task for NFF to succeed cos of it's antecedent when it cones to solid program for football development.
If not of recent or let me say the euphoria of WC qualification that made it compulsory for us to engage in friendlies,i don't think NFF is damn serious when it comes to well organized friendlies.
Now we are talking about invitation of our young lads based outside Nigeria and the only way is to organise friendlies but we all know that NFF always find it difficult to organize ordinary friendly match for Super eagles when it matter most.Pls can the same NFF arrange friendlies for U 20 which is capital NO then how do we get these guys
I remember icon4s made a solid suggestions regard U 20 and I told him to channel it to NFF straight cos we have bunch of unserious officers, remember Shehu Abdullahi yellow card that almost cost us WC ticket.
I will not deceive you getting these guys for U 20 is not that easy,i remember i was talking about logistics like flight tickets and other issues cos we have NFF that preferred to waste money on unnecessary things.
What about the coaches, are they ready to give these FBs the opportunities, remember how Sammy Ameobi came to U 20 camp and was dropped but the same season made Newcastle first team.
Apart from young Nigerian Brazilian keeper,we have many out there willing to play but are we ready to absorb them.into the system.
Really surprised that USA can beat us to the guy meaning they are more serious and their technical committee members are doing well in monitoring players who are eligible to play for US.
Sir till today is NFF saying anything regards Deji who wrote personal letter that he want to play for Nigeria but very soon the guy would be another Alaba.
Pls look at Otigba case and wondering how some people want to play down the negatives effect of player who rejected Euro tournament just to play for Nigeria but waited with no call.
Not necessarily we should call all FB but the special ones deserves our attention or else we keep on losing players to other countries and the only way is integrate them through youth system.
MetalJigsaw: well, Its not totally my fault bro...
Can't wait wait for the Poland game anyway Sir
Well.... just my little advice: Let's Keep certain things away from public fora.
I know of a man who got his eyes dirty and went to facebook to disclose how terrible his wife is in bed. Only for people to start calling his wife to ask him to delete the post. The message had gone far before the man returned to his senses to delete it.
congo4ka: I will be glad to teach you few important Russian words and street language. Russian/Ukraine an women are very beautiful (most beautiful in the world). They love to be kissed before they get fucccked please don't make the mistake to do otherwise.
Congoshiner, Mujtahida said as from 50days before the WC commences.
tbaba1234: Brazil's 18 y/o GK Chijioke Phillip Ejimadu (Nacional of Sao Paulo) has been called up by USA under 20 team for a friendly. He has Nigerian, Brazilian and USA citizenship
