I thought you were posting something new. I clicked the link. Ghana must go is not 1985. It is 1983. There is a wiki page devoted to it.

TheGoodJoe:
Definitely it is not 1985.

Even the wiki link says this.

In 1983 in Nigeria when Shehu Shagari was the President of Nigeria, an executive order was given to immigrants without proper immigration documents to leave the country or they would be arrested according to the law. Most of the immigrants were West Africans and mainly Ghanaians. Over 2 million men, women and children were affected by this news and decision of then President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Must_Go
Not everything is up for a debate.
This is what I witnessed. Yes there was a similar pronouncement by Shagari in 1983 but how far that one was implemented I can't recall.

But the one I can vividly give account of was the one pronounced by Buhari in May of 1985. They were given only one week to evacuate and the then military government went ahead to forcefully eject them. I am giving you an eye witness account and not Wikipedia.

Did you even click this link: http://www.nytimes.com/1985/05/12/world/ghanaians-expelled-by-nigeria-return-home-to-start-over.html

Every Ghana-must-go bag has a story. It’s usefulness and fame in Nigeria arrived in late January 1983, when the President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, held a press conference and ordered all immigrants without the right papers to leave the country within a few weeks. There were over two million people; one million were Ghanaians, and the rest were from a mix of other West African countries.

https://annechia.com/2015/04/20/ghana-must-go-nigerias-expulsion-of-immigrants/
Ghanaians have been issued quit notice orders since in the 1970s but the one that carried weight most was the one issued by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Col. Tune Idiagbon. In mid 1985. They were given only one week to evacuate.

http://www.nytimes.com/1985/05/12/world/ghanaians-expelled-by-nigeria-return-home-to-start-over.html

This was the one I remember the most.

1983 and Shagari, not Buhari.
General Muhamadu Buhari, in 1984 my brother.

We had a lot of Ghanaians in my neighborhood then. The images of the evacuation and harassments for those that didn't evacuate on time still plays in my memory. They were given ill-treatments and tortured until they all left.

I lost a couple of my childhood Ghanaian friends. Never saw or heard of them again till date.

Thats a fantastic performance from eagles. I watched the highlights of the goals and frankly, Nigeria is talented. NO, Blessed with abundance of talents. That free kick went up in the air like a UFO. And the 2nd goal was just breath taking. Kudos to the dudes.

I am hoping they get things goin well against CHAN in 2018. Ghana next abi? Whats up with the bitterness of Ghanaians towards Nigeria lately? Is it the patenting of jollof rice or is there something else? Anyway sha, we are brothers and so shall it always be
Lately?

No. That bitterness started since 1984 when Gen. Muhammadu Buhari booted them out of Lagos.

What are more important here are:

Class of Grade you graduate with. A sociology graduate with 2.1 has a better job prospect than an accounting or Economics graduate with a 2:2.

How you apply yourself after school. Even with a 2.1 if you don't prepare yourself well enough for the job market you are not likely to get that dream job.

Diversity: How well can you adapt into various situations? Are you ready to dabble into any kind of field keeping aside what you studied in school? People who have a more open mindset do better here.

Finally, The Grace of God. Study anything you want you need the Grace of God to get that job.

I don't know exactly how they arrive at the points from the links so far.
I only see how they arrive at the total points for each matches played.
How they put it together to form an aggregate points for each month is still a mystery to me.
I believe there are negative factors attached to loses and draws. It may not have been displayed in the formula but it does exist. Which is why you see teams lose ranking points when they lose or draw. Points are deducted. Just as just for that 1-0 lose to Benin our ranking points will drop from 715 to 696 even despite the 4-0 win over Cameroon.

Even some of the best and most talented have failed in the face of daunting challenges.... wink

But it is good to see that the boys surmounted the odds and flew high today... they can only get better I pray. smiley
He was already conceding defeat just because the Sierra Leoneans have been in Ghana since last week while our boys just arrived yesterday. Nigerians' never say die attitude will always prevail.

These are boys that travel by road from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri or vice versa and arrive on match day and still go and play. Not that it is right but It is something they have been used to. Not expecting them to beat Sierra Leone even under such circumstance shows he doesn't have confidence in the team.

There was nothing the NFF could do about the late arrival because the league just ended on Saturday and all these boys were key players in their respective campaigns. The players haven to travel from different corners of the country to Abuja the earliest possible date to leave Nigeria was Sunday night which was still already late.
There is no blaming the NFF on this one.

I am very glad the boys won as this will boost their confidence level as they prepare for CHAN in January.

If you beat Brazil at the WC

P = M*I*T*C
P = 3 * 4 * 200 * 1

If you lose to Cyprus at the WC
P = 0 * 4 * 50 * 0.99

50 (T) is the minimum allocated to any opponent ranked 150th and below
200 (T) is given to the highest ranked opposition
For countries ranked 2nd to 149th, we use the formula 200 - Rank, to calculate for T.
So what makes teams drop ranking points?

Where does the negative come in?

Yeah. I feel so too. But I feel FIFA is trying not to introduce too many ambiguities into the calculations.
For Eg if less points are awarded for winning at home then that will be unfair for teams hosting major events like the World cup or other tournaments.

My brother, dis one dey different tho. P= M*I*T*C. At CHAN or WAFU, we are literally playing teams that are tens of places lower or digits higher. So "I" (importance of match), won't look much. Since "T" (strength of opponent) and "C" (strength of confederation) are lower. So, gain in P is small or negative sef.

Against top teams which are usually stronger opponents, "T" is higher and since they are in stronger confederations, "C" is also higher. Thus gain in "P" is higher.

That's just the mechanics.
That factor 'T' is very powerful. If you record a win over a very strong opposition you get for eg +10. If you lose to a very weak opponent you get for eg -10. 2 X 4X1X10 = 80
2X4X1X (-10) = -80

So the weaker the strength of the opposition you lose to the more your ranking points would be negated.

My brother just like how beating a team ranked far above you earns you massive points even in friendlies, losing to a team ranked far below you has a devastating effect on your ranking points.

That is why most European countries don't often play friendlies with teams ranked below 50. Make that lowly rated team now come create upset make the big team's ranking points plunge.

Yes so it's not as negligible as boostdom thinks.
It can make quite a difference assuming we had beaten say Egypt at CHAN.
But I also learned something from that article he posted.
FIFA does not take into consideration the margin of win as well as whether the match was played at home, at a neutral ground or away.
Exactly. A win is a win irrespective of goals margin or match venue.

I will need to confirm if this WAFU tournament will be recorded on the ranking table. But I sincerely hope not.

No sir. use the ranking tool prognosis

http://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/ranking-tools/prognosis.html

since we lost to Benin, our possible points will be 696
if we had won, it would have been possibly 731.
Chances are we may drop in the next FIFA ranking.
I'm not sure if today's match will be considered for the next ranking release or the subsequent.
Perfect!!!!!

You sure know how the calculations are done. That singular lose to Benin made us lose 35 ranking points. Our ranking points will drop from 716 in August to 696 in September just because of that Benin lose. Our position in the ranking may likely drop or not change. Although Cameroon will drop below us so we are sure of at least over taking Cameroon.

This home based boys should not be screwing up our rankings o.

The scores are inputted because it is a FIFA sanctioned event. The ranking algorithm will take care of final points. Since they have a rank of 1.0 and it is average-based in a multiplication formula, it will even out and be of no consequence.
I am sure you know you can test the algorithm by changing the scores?

Go back and change that score of Benin 1-0 Nigeria to Benin 0-1 Nigeria and click calculate. And see the difference in the 'ranking points' it will give you.

According to that FIFA article, CHAN has no effect on team standing on the FIFA ranking. 1.0 is a multiplicative identity, it is useless
in the stated equation.

Also, it won't be cumulative but average. 5 CHAN matches win will still result in a grade point of 1.0.
Ah! Go back to that FIFA site and see for yourself. Benin 1-0 Nigeria, Nigeria 2-0 Benin, Nigeria 4-0 Cameroon and Cameroon 1-1 have been inputted already and the calculations done just waiting to be published on the slated date for the release.

That 1.0 u say is useless is what is used in calculating points for friendly matches.

Men's Ranking Procedure
David Villa (L) of Spain celebrates with Juan Mata (13), Thiago Alcantara (22) and Andres Iniesta

The basic logic of these calculations is simple: any team that does well in world football wins points which enable it to climb the world ranking.

A team’s total number of points over a four-year period is determined by adding:

The average number of points gained from matches during the past 12 months; and
The average number of points gained from matches older than 12 months (depreciates yearly).

Calculation of points for a single match

The number of points that can be won in a match depends on the following factors:

Was the match won or drawn? (M)
How important was the match (ranging from a friendly match to a FIFA World Cup™ match)? (I)How strong was the opposing team in terms of ranking position and the confederation to which they belong? (T and C)

These factors are brought together in the following formula to ascertain the total number of points (P):

P = M x I x T x C

The following criteria apply to the calculation of points:

M: Points for match result

Teams gain 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a defeat. In a penalty shoot-out, the winning team gains 2 points and the losing team gains 1 point.

I: Importance of match

Friendly match (including small competitions): I = 1.0

FIFA World Cup™ qualifier or confederation-level qualifier: I = 2.5

Confederation-level final competition or FIFA Confederations Cup: I = 3.0

FIFA World Cup™ final competition: I = 4.0

http://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/procedure/men.html
Meaning that each CHAN game is equivalent to each of those grade A friendlies. Then 4 to 5 CHAN matches are equivalent to 4 to 5 grade A friendlies. IE it is a cumulative of 4 to 5 points. You know the cumulative effect that will have on the overall ranking.

Mind you in preparation for the world cup top teams don't fancy friendlies with teams ranked too low. In fact some don't even play teams ranked below 50. If we can boost our ranking we will be more attractive to top teams.

The Benin 1-0 lose is already written on the table for us.
Contrary to our expectations Nigeria will be losing basis points for September rankings. Our position is not expected to change much. We are only overtaking Cameroon on the CAF table.
