I think, home based should be given a priority for under 17 because it is a good chance for exposure. That is the best chance for exposure for many talents. Exceptional foreign stars can join so as to keep them committed to Nigeria in the future.

For under 20, we should just look for the best.
Our problem is planning and funding.

If u send NPFL U17 players for MRI test anyone go pass? U and I know na.

IMO let us leave the U17 selection the way it is. I.e from the academies. Players go through MRI and what have u. That has given us two world titles within a short space of time. So it is working for us.

Now we should have an NPFL U18.

For instance, we are in 2017 and should be planning towards the 2019 WYC. By 2019 that team would have matured into an U20 team.

How do we go about this?

It is a known fact that our NPFL teams struggle to get funds to execute league games so having an U18 or youth league is out of it.

The NFF through the NPFL has a data base of players both in the top and lower division. It means they can sieve out players who are 17 and 18. U saw the thread earlier this week of NPFL youngsters. most of them are 17 and 18. At the end of the season this year, 2017 such players should be invited for trials at the U18 camp. And 25 of them selected as the U18 national team.

Now, we expect also the national U17 players from academies that went through the MRI to be part of this team. We invite them also for trials at the U18 camp from which again best 25 are selected. This team can be kept busy with matches with armature and or lower division teams or even NPFL preseason tourney, like that of 2015.

2019 WYC qualifiers starts in 2018. We would be ready by then to face any opposition.

How do we include the foreign based U20 players? It is difficult to secure their release during qualifiers as the games are played outside the FIFA window. We may manage to get the ones still in academies. If we qualify for the WYC which is typically played during end of season break then we invite the foreign based players that can add value nt jst bc they are foreign based.

This is not pulling down, this is building.

You remove the ones not fitted for the best.

Only Musa, Ighalo(e still dey team?) grin, Onazi, Mikel, Victor, Echiejile, Simon, Omeruo and Shehu Abdullahi (I am not convinced he is Super Eagles material) has up to 10 caps.

The rest na below,na.

We need to bring in more players to fight for the shirt.

Mikel Agu, Sanisi and Esiti contending with Wilfred

Noah, Aluko and Ehizibue contending with Ahmed

Odubajo, Ebuehi and Nura contending with Musa and Omeruo

Aina and Torunarigha contesting with Echiejile

Noah, Sone sluggish it out with Iheanacho

etcetera etcetera... grin
U did not even mention Brown Ideye and Troost-Ekong. They have more than 10 caps. Leon Balogun should also be nearing 10 caps now.
Now does ur argument of MOST players not having up to 10 caps still valid?

Going by all these names you are mentioning u'll continue to have headaches over Rohr's team selection. Bc u will still be disappointed again when you see his next squad for the SA game and MOST of those names u have been singing will be omitted.

Rohr knows his TEAM already but will continue to try out a couple of other players to see those that will add value to the team. Not to just flood the camp with so many untested players.

I can tell you that Rohr already knows atleast 9 of the 11 players he would want to start the game against SA in june.

I did say previously that I had some questions about Iwobi. He has played pretty football at Arsenal with great technical players around him. I wasn't sure how he would cope in a blood, guts and physical warfare type game. That question was answered when we played Senegal. He simply didn't, will he improve its open to debate, will Rohr take a chance on him again in an even more physically contentious blood and guts I'll tempered football game hmmm. With a whole lot more at stake, not my decision but Rohr.

Omeruah is defender and nothing else he is not a RWB however Aina is.

Some of the RWB from Germany and Holland to my superficial eye seem a bit lightweight for a battle against Cameroon.Aino is not a lightweight.

Onyedinma is not a lightweight Aluko is not a lightweight i would play both of them against Cameroon. Iorfa needs to be seen in a competitive friendly he also is not a lightweight.

The match with Cameroon is going to be a battle Ndidi is essential in this regard, so is Mikel, I'm not a big fan of Ogu a bit slow and laboured and not offensively inventive enough. We need other options I also like Shehu he should not be playing in Cyprus.
I like the objectiveness and the specific ways with which u jst tabled ur points. But meanwhile forgiveness claimed the senegal game was not physical at all. A game that had rugged Onazi stretchered out with Musa limping out and had up to abt 7 yellow cards.

I also have issues with the way Omeruo plays the RB. He plays it as a Right Full back where as modern football encourages more of Right Wing Back plays.

Now, it depends on the teams set up, A RFB may be more valuable in particular games or situations than a RWB and vice versa.

Now also u need to understand that the pry duties of a defender is to defend. Ability to join in the attack is an additional quality. A coach assesses his options and prioritises.

I personally dnt see Ebuehi as physical enough to cope with the demands of that position. He IMO is pretty young and needs time to develop.

Ola Aina and Moses Odubanjo are other RB options but are they better than Shehu Abdullahi and Musa Mohammed who we have seen marshalled that position without issues.

Can they provide more cover at the back than Omeruo?

How can you pull down what is not on ground?

We don't have a team on ground yet because most these players don't have up to 10 caps.

We are still building hence the need to bring in players to slug it out with the ones in the team. grin

It is a team in progress. grin
U see?

That is where the problem is. And that where the problem has been in the last ten years. Lack of consistency and pulling down the team at random?

Now u say we dnt have a team and most players dnt have up to 10 caps. Do u know how long it takes for players to get 10caps for the national team. How many games does a national team play in a year adding to the fact that we have missed out in last two AFCONS.

Now back to ur 10caps indices. It will interest u to know that from the crop of players who play regularly or come in as subs only Iwobi, Iheanacho and Ndidi have less than 10caps with 9, 8 and 7 respectively. Look at our defense and midfield and tell me which other player has not had up to 10 caps. What of Musa, Victor Moses, Ighalo and Ideye? Even young chaps like Shehu, Simon and Etebo have had had more than 10 caps.

My good Friend WE HAVE A TEAM AND A GOOD STRUCTURE ON GROUND ABEG.

Are u telling me u dnt know abt the physical demands associated with playing typical African oppositions?

Lol. Rohr knows what he is doing. He has worked in Africa long enough.

You dnt know the implication of maintaining the same back line we used against Algeria?

He is beginning to have faith in that back line and building consistency and may just b looking for back ups. Omeruo is Nigeria's new RB.
Troost and Balogun are our confirmed CB duo while Echiejile has snatched back that LB position.

Allowing those English born players train with the team is good. Firstly for sense of belonging and also a couple of them may turn out to be great additions to the squad.

When an AMF is played in an advanced position he becomes a SS.
Then the formation becomes a 4-4-2.

That is the beauty of the 4-5-1 formation. It allows u to switch to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 even without necessarily making a substitution.

Iheanacho naturally likes to drift into striking positions even when played as an AM.

That was part of the issues he had with the Manu 2015 U20 team. In that Brazil game Manu set up a 4-4-2 formation, with Awoniyi and Success up front. Iheanacho was meant to play behing the duo but instead drifted forward a lot to join in the attack thereby making us play 4-3-3. That created a gap at the midfield which now mounted pressure on our defenders. We conceded 4goals.

Next game Manu started Sokari ahead of Iheanacho. Sokari brought more midfield presence. Also Saviour Godwin came in for Success adding also more to d midfield and wings play which is typical of 4-5-1.

The 4-5-1 is always safer than the more adventurous 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi says he a great admirer of John Obi Mikel.

Ndidi's impressive form for Leicester City since joining the team in the winter transfer, has seen him score one goal in eight games in all competitions.

The former Genk star insisted that Mikel has always been a player he idolises while he was growing up as a child.

"I have always looked up to Mikel," Ndidi told Goal.

"When he was at Chelsea, I was at Nath Boys [as a youth player] and I have always liked him as a player. I have always been crazy about Mikel. The way he plays is amazing.

"When me and my friends talk about players, we always want to talk about Mikel. He is so important for Nigerian football. I actually liked two players from outside of Nigeria [when I was younger]."

Mickael2:
but where will he play the SS? Last I checked we do not have one in our formation, except if you mean the AMF
Good question.

Musa will still not be a regular.

Rohr typically plays 4-5-1
But he may chose to alter it to a 4-4-2 depending on how the game is progressing.

Recall in the last game against Senegal, Rohr started with a 4-5-1. But as we went a goal down he saw the need to switch formation and adopted a 4-4-2 with Kayode playing SS to Iheanacho. Or some may even say 4-3-3 if u consider Success as a striker in that game. That is what I am talking about. He may also be a candidate for that SS role.

You dnt expect to always get the first goal in every game. Rohr has been opportune to always be ahead in all his 3 previous games which is why he had always maintained that 4-5-1 till the end. So what happens if u find urself a goal or two down? You need to quickly switch formation and make it more attack minded. This is where Musa can be introduced as an SS. His pace and direct play can be used to unlock difficult defenses.

Ahmed Musa has eyes for goals. Recall when he was at CSKA how he often played the SS role to Seydou Dumbia. There were also games where he played as a CF.

Musa might lose place in Super Eagles squad

Leicester City forward, Ahmed Musa, is at the risk of losing his place in the Super Eagles as coach Gernot Rohr is getting impatient with his attitude.

It was gathered that the player’s general attitude in camp has not been good, even as his performance rating on the field of play has dropped significantly with the German tactician not impressed, according to sources.

“He seemed to have some problems with the team when Samson Siasia was briefly in charge, but he made the mistake of carrying this into Rohr’s regime. That has not helped him,” an official said.

Rohr overlooked Ahmed Musa to lead the Eagles against Senegal in London last week, when he handed Ogenyi Onazi the captain’s armband instead.

It was further learnt that immediately after this decision, the Leicester City star hurriedly called a players’ meeting during which he announced he will no longer be assistant captain of the team.

“That was very childish of him,” blasted a team official.
Rohr revealed on radio that Ahmed Musa was excused from camp to attend to family issues, but it has been revealed the player asked to leave camp.

But this was only the culmination of the problems between player and coach as Rohr has been far from pleased with Ahmed Musa’s general attitude particularly on the pitch.

It would be recalled that Ahmed Musa drove into the team’s training camp with an expensive Range Rover Sports he had acquired just days to a crucial World Cup qualifier in Zambia in October.

The coach was miffed by this as he expected all the players in camp to focus totally on the game in Ndola, Zambia.

“The coach did not even mind this. It’s the player’s attitude he has not been happy with,” further informed another official

Source: http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/musa-might-lose-place-in-super-eagles-squad/
No be say 'might' he has already lost his place. He used to be a starter along with Victor Moses. He first lost it when Moses Simon came and fell further as Iwobi was incorporated.

However, I still feel we can try him in the SS role.

2019 AFCON Qualifiers in focus
The 2019 AFCON Qualifiers

Group E
Nigeria, South Africa, Libya, Seychelles

South Africa seems to be the only country that could provide us with a hard nut to crack.

Lybia and Seychelles are not walkovers, but on paper should not worry us a bit. These two countries should be good testing grounds for Rohr led technical crew to try out a good number of green horns from the array of young stars outlined.
I quite agree with ur last paragraph but mind u only one team qualifies automatically. It means for now every game is important. Apart from head to head goals difference plays a role especially in selecting the best 2nd placed teams.

My take is let Rohr select his best even in the first meeting against Libya and Seychelles. And IF we later get to a stage where we are sure that we will definitely finish top of the group he MAY then decide to field an entirely experimental squad.

Now, I am not saying he should nt include the new players at all. He may invite 2-3 for camping and include 1 or 2 per match. By so doing the balance of the team would not be distorted.

Father Reveals – Wolves Coach Punishing Iorfa Jnr For Meeting With Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/image-101.jpg

The father of Wolverhampton Anglo-Nigerian defender Dominic Iorfa insists his son is being punished for opting to represent Nigeria instead of England where he was born.

Iorfa jnr has played for England at various youth levels, and even trained with the senior team when they were short in defence ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers tie against San Marino.

Rated as one of the best defensive prospects in the English youth ranks, his father Dominic Iorfa senior who played for Nigeria at senior level says his son's decision to pledge his international future to Nigeria cost him his place at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

”I have decided that my son will play for Nigeria and he met with Gernot Rohr when the coach came to see Carl Ikeme, and coach of Wolves Paul Lambert is unhappy over the fact that he has opted for Nigeria ahead of England.

”That is the reason why he is no longer a regular at the club, but that won’t make him neither will I change my mind about my son representing Nigeria at senior level, no going back once he turns 23″, Iorfa told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Politics › Re: Governance: The 3 Most Unlucky States In Nigeria by Icon4s(m): 8:50am On Mar 30, 2017
Bekwarra:
I don't want to call them unfortunate because that will be too harsh thus I used unlucky. But these states just happen to replace one terrible governor with a worse one especially since the start of this democratic dispensation in 1999. I don't know the cause; maybe it's predestination, a dearth of good leaders, the people making wrong decisions or a combination of these factors. The states I will group in this category are

1. Benue: From George Akume to Gabriel Suswan and now Samuel Ortom, the state seems to be richly "unblessed" with visionary and good leaders as governors. For a state that pridye itself as the food basket of the nation, it should be feeding a large swathe of Southern Nigeria and the middle belt with agricultural products while also taking over some food markets in West African countries. Unfortunately, agriculture in Benue is still largely subsistence. Where is the government support to empower farmers, where are the Hundreds of large farms that should be dotting the landscape? What happened to attracting huge investments in the area of processing some of these products into finished goods? Have you taken Benue orange before? Where are the juice making companies to harness these? Mechanized farming still remain a luxury to the people. What about having a state owned cargo airport to move out some farm products? Where are the good roads to move products from the villages to the towns for onward processing and transportation? I can go on and on. What is the poverty level in Benue? Security? Herdsmen? Level of development?

2. Kogi: Governance in Kogi state is nothing to write home about. Nothing is happening in that state as far as development is concerned. How many times have you seen Kogi in the news for any ground breaking developmental project? We get to see Lagos, Anambra, Rivers, Kano and even Osun. Kogi governors can't maximise the strategic location of the state bordering many states and located at the central part of the country. Like a Kogi-born friend once told me, the only thriving economy in Kogi state is politics. The state capital looks like a modern village, no good roads, no industries. Nothing is happening in that state. Can't think outside the box. Imagine having Abubakar Audi, Idris Wada and now Yahaya Bello as governors. Can a state be more "unblessed"?

3. Abia: This state is a sorry case. Despite being blessed with smart and hardworking people with great spirits of entrepreneurship, of is still so underdeveloped. There are no good roads and recognisable development that can be commensurate with the human resources the state is blessed with. Their governors are just their to loot. Just imagine if Aba is located in Lagos, it would have easily become West Africa's commercial and economic hub generating billions of Naira to the government.

Notable mentions- Kwara and Delta.

Do you agree or disagree? Share your opinions.
