Politics › Re: Agbaje Doesn’t Have Anything To Offer Lagos, Says Sanwo-olu by id911(m): 11:25am On Jan 30, 2019 |
Tenny93: The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, lacks basic knowledge and practicable ideas to drive governance in the state.
Sanwo-Olu spoke yesterday on a radio show, 91.3FM’s People’s Parliament, with Jimi Disu.
The APC candidate said Agbaje does not have any meaningful agenda to offer Lagos residents, hence his resort to smear campaign.
In response to a question about Agbaje’s campaign theme on freedom for Lagos, Sanwo-Olu wondered why in 21st century Nigeria, a governorship candidate was building his campaign strategy around freedom.
He stressed that Lagosians were the freest people in the country.
Sanwo-Olu said Lagos enjoyed freedom in every sphere of life, including the economy, enterprise and infrastructure.
The APC flag bearer reminded the listeners that the state had been enjoying economic prosperity in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 1999.
“This fellow (Jimi Agbaje) doesn’t just have anything to offer Lagosians. So, the only thing he could think of putting on the table is freedom. Freedom from what? Are we in bondage in Lagos?” Sanwo-Olu asked.
“Do you think it is by magic that Lagos State assumed the enviable position as the fifth largest economy in Africa? No. People worked hard to get the state to this level and they continue to work harder for the state to surpass its current feat. What freedom is anyone talking to us about?” he added.
The APC candidate promised to tackle traffic gridlocks across the state within six months, if elected.
He said his team had identified about 60 traffic points across the state, adding that each one of them had a peculiar solution.
On the environment and waste management, Sanwo-Olu said his government would treat the issue from homes.
He said: “We must start waste sorting from our various kitchens at home. We will be heavy with advocacy on the use of yellow, blue and black bags for organic, plastics, bottles and domestic waste items. This approach will help with pick-ups. This will automatically help in our drive towards waste to wealth.”
Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians of his readiness to take the sState to the level every resident will be proud of.
“We plan to run an inclusive government, where every stakeholder will have a voice. We intend to listen to every citizen as part of our decision making process; a Lagos where everyone will have a sense of belonging,” he said.

Politics › Re: Acting CJN, Abstain From NJC Meeting To Allow For Dispassionate Proceedings by id911(m): 4:14pm On Jan 29, 2019 |
ojikeebere12: The Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Mohammed, will not be at the sitting of the National Judicial Council later today, as the council is set to debate issues around the suspension of his predecessor Walter Onnoghen.
Mr Mohammed was appointed in controversial circumstances by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.
The NJC is statutorily chaired by chief justice of the federation, who is deputised by the next in the line of succession.
Prior to Mr Onnoghen’s suspension, he chaired the NJC meetings and was deputised by Mr Mohammed.
Mr Onnoghen is standing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on allegations of false asset declaration and concealment.
The NJC meeting is billed to discuss Mr Mohammed’s appointment and take position on Mr Onnoghen’s suspension.
The meeting is billed to start at noon today.
Multiple sources told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr Mohammed has opted to stay away from the proceedings to allow for dispassionate proceedings.
The acting Chief Justice is currently presiding cases at the Supreme Court.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that lawyers in Abuja have reported to the courts in spite of a boycott order by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
With Messrs Onnoghen and Mohammed out of the picture, insiders said the meeting would have to resolve the first issue of who chairs the important session.
Two names are being thrown up: a former president of the Court of Appeal, Umaru Abdullahi, and Zainab Bulkachuwa.
While Mr Abdullahi is the oldest member of the council, Mrs Bulkachuwa is being touted to lead the meeting being the head of the next highest court of the country, the Court of Appeal.
However, a source at the NJC said the most senior justice of the supreme after Mr Mohammed, Bode Rhodes-Vivour, is being tapped to head the meeting.
“The meeting is always headed by the most senior judge, now that the CJN is suspended and the acting CJN is interested party, the next person, who should naturally be Tanko’s deputy will be the one to preside over the meeting,” a member of the NJC who pleaded anonymity for not being in a position to comment on the matter publicly said.
The meeting is expected to discuss allegations against Mr Onnoghen which led to his CCT trial, and eventual suspension.
At least three petitions are also said to be tabled before the NJC, with two against Mr Onnoghen and one against Mr Muhammed.

dokie: My brother I rather have a SW CJN than another Fulani. Truth is that as tribalistic as the average yoruba man can be, they are better than the fulanies.
At least they value life like other southerners do, and they are better read and more exposed. So impunity is less with them.
If Buhari were to drop dead today, I will have a lot more peace of mind under an Osibanjo presidency, though that one has made himself useless.
Under Buhari, I honestly fear for my life. Yes, I prefer Osinbajo to Buhari a million times. But truth be told, Yorubas hate other parts of the South so if I'm given a chance to choose between a Yoruba man and a Northerner, I will always support the Northerner as from now on because of the recent experiences |

Nigeria Media is our major problem, walahi!
The NJC decided that neither Onnoghen nor Tanko would attend today's meeting so as to be fair to all concerned. The law allows the NJC to appoint someone from among them (chairman pro tempore) to preside over the meeting when the Chairman or the Deputy are not available. Instead of you guys to report the right thing, you decided to be mischievous, why? . |
Politics › Re: *is Russian Meddling On The Cards In Nigeria’s 2019 Election?* *by Bernard Oluw by id911(m): 11:50am On Jan 29, 2019 |
Venom236: The 2016 election in the United States opened my eyes to collusion and by collusion, I mean the ‘Russian Collusion’ that has led Special Counsellor Robert Mueller on an investigation. As an African American I’m seeing similar signs unravel in Nigeria and I think a collusion might on the cards.
That Atiku Abubakar, one of the presidential candidates, share the same lobbyist as President Donald Trump should be worrying to Nigerians but more disturbing is the fact that the same night that Abubakar slept at the Trump Hotel, Vice President Mike Pence was at the hotel.
That was not a coincidence in my books, it was well orchestrated by Brian Ballard, a well-known lobbyist and a long-standing Trump ally, there the collusion must have been agreed.
Fast forward to last week, the President of Nigeria for some reasons suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the reaction of Abubakar and his party was startling. They decided to suspend their campaign. Who does that? Is the CJN a member of their party?
No, it only goes to show that he has been assured that even if he doesn’t campaign, he will win the election. You’re probably wondering, why I said that, the statement of the UK, US and EU after the suspension pointed to a collusion.
Following the official statements released by the US, UK and EU on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who has immediately been replaced by an acting CJN, one begins to see an all too familiar pattern. The sovereignty of the Nigerian state is sacrosanct; hence this gang-up is not being convened in the best interest of Nigeria.
We are still watching the daily revelations coming out from the probe of Russian meddling and collusion in the US Presidential Elections of 2016 which produced Donald Trump as US President. For our ‘friends’ in the US, UK and EU, their stance clearly amounts to crying more than the bereaved. They would not condone such infractions from their own judges, so it is baffling how they want to advise Nigeria to do the same.
Senior justices have been suspended and tried in American and British courts, but we never heard their outcry, why is it that Nigeria has suddenly become their favorite now that Onnoghen got suspended?
We know that Atiku desperately lobbied to get into the US using a PR firm that is loyal to Trump, so the swift alignment of the Trump administration that is mouthing the same words as the PDP is not surprising, millions of dollars are doing the talking here.
The UK government also tried its best to ensure safe passage to Atiku from UK to US but could not succeed until Ballard Partners were signed up to do the job. America should first take care of her domestic problems arising from the ongoing US government shutdown, before trying to pontificate on Nigerian matters. It would do well for the UK and EU to realize that the colonial era is long gone, and Nigeria is an independent nation. We need not cross any lines here.
This trend of events portrays a grand plan of interference and meddling in Nigerian affairs in order to effect a clandestine change of government by any means necessary.
Only the real voters of Nigeria have the right to decide who wins on February 16 and will get sworn in to occupy Aso Villa as from May 29, 2019.
*Bernard Oluwole is a political commentator and social activist* If you can write the above rubbish, what is now the reason your father, Awolowo, gave you free education? |
