Aro was unsettled,people are every where,moving about with their different business,some are busy hurrying out of Aro with their belonging at the expense of the reputation, others are staying to get a good reputation but at the expense of the risk of their life,some are moving about transferring supplies to the warriors camp at the border,women are carrying foodstuffs on their head as they hurried away,children are not left out they grabbed what their minimal strength could carry and hurried off too.
Aro warriors are everywhere,hurrying around with weapons and weird looking charms,everybody was busy.

But upon all that is going on,all that matters to Chilo was oyeku,it had been two days now and She had not seen Oyeku,she had expected him to come to her place,but he didn't,she had gone to his hut yesterday,but there was nobody,she could not stop crying through out the night,Oyeku had left without her,he had left for Ibiru just like the others,it broke her heart. Early this morning,she had rushed to his hut again,but she was disappointed,the place as silent as grave,no sign of Oyeku.
Now depression is setting in for her,her mother had asked her what was wrong,but she didn't talk,she is not eating either,this had got her mother worried.

mothershe picked a stool and sat closer to chilo,who was sitting on her mat,looking pale and depressed) daughter,what is wrong?are you sick?

Chilosniffed) am fine mother.

motherdisapprovingly) i don't believe it,come closer(she dragged Chilo to herself as she examined her) or are you pregnant?( she smiled) tell me,did you play naughty with Oyeku?are you pregnant?

Chilosobs) no mother,Oyeku left,he left without me,he has gone to Ibiru,(she burst into tears).

Mothershe released her and look at her) Oyeku left?

Chilowiping her eyes with her wrapper) yes mother,and he didn't tell.

Motherdisapprovingly) are you sure Oyeku has left?

Chilo:of course mother,i checked on his hut twice(she pointed two fingers) yesterday and today,but the hut was empty.

mothershe paused for some moments) i don't think Oyeku will leave without dropping a news to you,i know Oyeku to be a sensitive boy,he won't want to hurt your feelings,i believe Oyeku is still around,do you know any other place he could be apart from his parents place?

Chiloshe thought for a moment) well he has an elder brother,his hut is just few meters away from our hut,sometimes,he goes to see him,but i don't like his brother,always frowning and so proud,he never greets,he never smiles,i don't even pray to come across him again(she frowned and rested her head on her mother's shoulder).

mothershe pets her) well may be that is where your lover is,maybe you should go look for him there.

Chiloshe looked at her mother) mother,are you sure she he will be there?because i can't risk going to that his demonic looking brother house just to be disappointed and get the most insulting look of my life.

mother: i believe that he is there,just believe too,Oyeku will not leave without telling you,remember,when he wanted to leave for Usi war,he told you about it,didn't he?

Chilo: he did.

mother:that surely means he would go nowhere without telling you,okay?now go check him at his brothers hut.

Chilo(she stood up) i will go now mother,but if i be lucky and see Oyeku(she bit her finger) i would teach him a lesson( she hurried out as her mother laughed).

Two days later

The oyos had camped at the other side of the stream,but thet haven,t made any offensive move already,it was as if they are trying to observe well the terrain of their enemies. There are about five thousand of them,the Aros knew that these were just a fragment of the main army,the main army has not shown up yet.

Ichendu stood his hands akimbo,his gaze was fix on the great army that stood before him,his heart was sinking but he did not show it,these are experienced warriors compared to his Aro men,he could see the oyo warriors sitting at the bank,some where walking around with their bronze tipped spear reflecting the sun rays,he knew they were planning on how to cross the stream with minimal damage to their force. The stream had put a distance of four hundred meter between them,anything less is no more Aro but ibiru.

He could see warriors cutting down tree,he could see them rolling down the fallen trees as they bound them together with thick cords,he knew they were building rafts to cross the stream.
Atleast they would need about seven hundred raft if it be they are bulding great raft,but if they are not,they would be needing more,except,they are not crossing with the whole army.

He would use the stream as their main weapon of chaos,he had planned it over and over till it had sank into his head and the head of his warriors,Oyos must not cross the stream no matter what,ichendu had made a lot of defensive plans,more of the plan will rests on his archers,four hundred meter is less than their bows strength,they could shoot more,which means that the archers would start releasing deaths to the Oyos immediately they set their foot on the waters,the more Oyos they could get down before the main battle,the more the chance of winning or survival.

The Oyos would never cross the stream,he would make sure of that,he was still thinking when a warrior tapped him.

Warrior: Chief,it seems they are trying to build rafts,we should have known and made plans,but now is it too late?

Ichenduhe folded his hands and exhaled) any idea?

warriorhe shook his head) no idea.

ichenduhe faced the warrior) the biggest idea is to prevent those barbarians from setting their foot on our soil.

warriorhe nodded) Sir,we are still waiting for your orders to eliminate those Oyo spies,one of them even killed our men at the dungeon.

Ichendusurprised) they are still breathing?

warrior: yes,we haven't kill them yet,but we did not buried the dead Aro woman that harbors the spies,we threw her corpse into the forest.

Ichenduhe faced the warrior) go now and slaughter them unfailingly, we have much on our hands than to be taking unnecessary risks.

warriorhe nodded and hurried off).








Maku opened his eyes as he felt a jab in his stomach,he winced and groaned,he tried to block the sun rays from meeting with his eyes directly,his back was on the floor,his hands were tied to his back ,he could feel the pain on his skull, that was where he had been hit with a club.
He remembered now,he had killed the guard and broke his neck,he had not known where the strength came from,but he felt very strong,he had left the guard dead and rushed out to grab another,as he was trying to choke the other guard,that was when the blow came and his world went black.

The thought of Arore got him on his feet,he tried to look around for her,but he couldn't that was when he knew he had been tied with some other people.

Legunin a teary,sad whisper) your majesty,please don't try to move, we are at the edge of a cliff.

Maku could feel it indeed, his feet had been dangling for long now,he strained his neck to confirm it,and behold,they have been brought to a lake deep in the bush. This lake is the home of all filthy things that the Aro community dispense each day,like dirt,dead goats or dog,excrement,dead foetus and other form of environmental waste. He could see the green water of the lake as it emit it algae beauty,from distance he could smell the filth of the lake.

Deoluhe tried to turn to maku,with tears) brother,am scared,i don't want to die in this place,please do something.

Maku closed his eyes as tears rolled down,he could not bear it,he was helpless,helpless to save himself and to save his brother,he cried profusely,the agony was much,he was not able to save Arore and now he is helpless to save his own brother,why?why is he so helpless?.

Maku was still sobbing,when he heard a crack,he froze and so do the others, oh no! the cliff is cracking.

Leguncrying) don't move,keep calm,it nothing.

Deolucrying loud) i am unfortunate! i tried to help,but here i am,ah!

The cliff cracked more with a louder sound and then it fell as the young men plunge into the green beauty.

Uzo sat at the top of a rock,as he watch Oyeku, it was late in the morning, almost noon, baba had informed him about Oyeku's Zeal for the war, now,he had bear it upon himself to teach him this previous art,but he had to confirm if Oyeku deserves such training.

Uzo:pull of your skirt and stand straight.

Oyeku: (surprised but but smiling,he had been happy and excited all the way) you mean I should go naked?

Uzohe nodded slowly).


Oyeku did,he pulled of his skirt as he felt the gust of wind struck his lower body,he felt exposed and naked,he quickly covered his top secret with his hands,he wish no one would come to this mountain at this time,he could see Uzo try to peer into his secret place.

Oyeku: (smiling) brother, what are you trying to see?I won't show you.

Uzo: (he adjusted on his sit,the sitting position had hurt his bums) open it up boy,we washed it well before and after Iya weened you,no need hiding it now.

Oyeku hates to hear that,he hate to hear people telling him that when he was a boy,they wash him and cleans up his poo,he hate when people tell him how he chased around goats,just to get his tiny mouth on her breast as he suckle for milk,now Uzo is doing the same thing, well he won't give in,they may have seen his top secret when he was a baby, but now, it had changed that they can't recognized it again, so he won't reveal the new instrument.

Oyeku: (grinning) I won't, this one is different from the one you,Ola and Iya washed,you won't see this one( he backed him with bums).

Uzohe walk to his front and inspected him from above his head to his ankles, then he look at him in the eyes) Rule one of being a warrior, forget your shame, don't ever feel ashamed, you get ashamed when you start thinking about what others are thinking about you,warriors knows no shame, our body is nothing but a weapon, it is not meant for showing aesthetics,not meant for decor, but for war,when you know no shame, you are free in your mind,you can achieve what shameful people cannot achieve, do you understand?.

Oyeku: (he nodded quickly) yes Sir.


Uzohe put his mouth into Oyeku's ear and whispered) you are right, your small man,is a big man now, have you been sleeping with any girl?


Oyeku: (he burst out laughing)brother, is it part of the Aro ethics of war to ask this questions too?

Oyeku was surprised, Uzo had never talk relationship with him before, but how does he knows about chilo? since he is always the introvert that patrols much of the woods and less of the village, Uzo really got him there,but he is not guilty after all he hasn't mate with chilo.

Oyeku: (serious) we did nothing, she is just the girl I love, ask her,we have done nothing.

Uzo: ( he stood up) let proceed with the training, we have only today and tomorrow, next tomorrow, Ogun will taste blood.

Chapter sixteen

Ogbo ran like a madman,leaping fallen trees and holes,he had deceived the guard,now he must escape from this place fast,he had to assassinate Deolu as fast as possible before he ruins his plan.

He could see blood on his leg as he ran through blade grass, he could feel the stinging pain,but he doesn't care,he had to leave Oyo.

He is getting closer to Aro now, he ran down the hills and descended with speed,surely the stupid guard would have realized his escape by now.

He slowed down his pace as his eyes caught something, he hide among the tall shrubs and ducked out his head as he noticed several the barricade,he could see Aro warriors patrolling as they kept their spear by their sides.

Oh no!, how would he get pass them,this is dangerous, Deolu must not ruin his plan,he had prove himself to be a thorn in his foot, now he must put an end to his nosey life.

He was still brooding when it occurred to him that nothing is spoilt after all, he is trap from crossing over,surely Deolu too must have been trapped, he tried to believe that Deolu is indeed trapped, cause if he is not,their is problem,but right now he need to get something to eat and a place to sit and observe.





Maku could not stop weeping, he had Arore in his arms from last night till now,he couldn't stop himself from staring at her beautiful, serene face in death, he wept and groaned, it was too much.

Now, he knew the significant of the dream he had last night, Arore had sacrificed herself for him,he had sacrificed her sustaining force,just for him,the thought made him hugged her more tightly as he rocked her corpse.

How would he cope without Arore, Arore had become part of his life,now she is gone,the reality pierced his heart that he screamed so loud that a guard came in,it was the second guard that had aided the first one to rape Arore's corpse.

Second guardannoyed) what is wrong? why are you screaming?( he moved towards Maku and observed the corpse,he frowned) what happened to her? I said what happened to her?.

Makuhe bit his lip in anger and in pain) may the gods ruin you,you disgraced Arore,you pig! I promise that I would come for you and the other pig,I know your faces,o would leave this place, I would come for you and I will kill you,both of you.

second guardhe eyed him and spoke softly) you killed her,right?, you kill the woman,you are in trouble( he raised his voice and called the other guard) come her,lai,their is a corpse here, the bastard as raped the woman to death,come now.


Maku couldn't bear it anymore, with his last strength, he launched at the guard and caught his neck,with a great strength, he turn his neck, till he hear the cracking sound,the guard stopped moving, he is dead.

Oyeku went in and picked the largest pot,then he came out,it occurred to him that he should tell Iya about his plan of going to Uzo's hut so that he could leave quickly and she won't cumber him with more work if he return.

Oyekuhe balanced the pot on his shoulder) Iya,i would go visit brother today.

Chilo:Oyeku are you going to the stream?

What kind of question is this,oyeku thought,this girl has started again.

Chilo bursted into cry again,this time not a cry of not been loved,but the cry of getting Oyeku to bed and spread her legs for him,but not been able to do so.

Ogbo was nervous,Deolu had ordered him to be watched and guarded,he wish he could vanish away from this place. He tried to imagine what Deolu is actually doing at Aro right now,Athough he knew that Maku is dead indeed and that Deolu would surely confirm this,but still,he was very nervous, he had to leave this place,nothing must stop the war,he knew Deolu,that nosey bastard!,always poking his nose at thing that does not involve him,if he could get the chance,he would kill him and worry less. But right now he must get rid of the guards,he must get out.

He was kept in a room,the guards were outside chatting idly,he had counted the guards,they were four in number,they all seems careless and dumb except one that is always roaming the room to check how he fares,he had marked the face of the guard and he promised himself to kill him sooner or later. He had a plan,a plan of escape but he prays that it works.

Ogboholding his stomach he groaned) oooooh! my stomach! what have you given me to eat?my stomach!

A guard rushed in;

1 Guardrushing to his sides) hey! you,what's wrong with you?

Ogbo he squeezed his stomach) my stomach! it aches.

2 guardshouting from outside) whatever he says don't listen to him,he is one cunning bastard with a mouth like calabash.

Ogbo:please sir,i want to ease myself,i want to empty my bowels.

1 guardshouting to the first guard) the slave said he wants to go visit the bush.

Maku opened his eyes,he could feel the heat,and he could perceive the dirty air of the dungeon,everything was dark,his body was a bit heavy,he could feel a tingling sensation in his head,he felt strange. Something caught his attention,he saw two guards whispering at the dungeon door,then they entered with a torch,he could see their faces,he knew that look on their face,they are trying to swim,but who do they want to swim with? that was when he remembered Arore. He tried to stand up,but he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen,it was a terrible pain that made him fall back to the ground as he groaned,the guards had seen hin groaned but they were not concerned.

They could see Arore sprawled on the ground with a careless disposition,her eyes were closed.

1 guardhe smiled leerily) i told you the girl would be a LovePeddler,look at how she opened her legs.

2 guardsqueezing his erected manhood)should we first wake her up or just do her this way?

Oduaye sat on a mat,he wore a wide skirt,laid with dangerous looking charms, his hairs were plaited in shuku,his eyes was heavily tinted with tiro,his lips were painted black,apart from his deep catlike tribal marks,his body was full of incisions and scars,he wasn't muscular nor is he great in height, Oduaye would have been mistaken for a sick man, cause he look frail and staggering.

He had led Oyo on several campaign for the emperor, he had been the backbone of the extinction of the ejembas, he is a man of great determination and cruelty, he doesn't show mercy,It was said that he had started killing from his infancy, it was said he killed is mother during birth by coming down with his legs instead of his head.

When he was a boy,he went and fetch a hot coal from the earthen stove and drop it under the roof of his father's hut,his father burnt to death that night, because the coal caught flame and the dried palm leaves of the hut too, it was night so nobody noticed to inform his father, until he burnt to death,no one know why he did it,because he ran away.

Oduaye sat as he pet a young tiger,the little cat was trying to grab his finger with her teeth, he was smiling contentedly at the animal, he dropped the cub and picked another one.

His tiger had just giving birth to four cubs, it was a great joy to him,he had loved animals since when he was a boy, but tigers are his favourite, he love the spirit of the Tiger, she is brave,she is fast,she is dangerous, she roams around the Savannah like a king, while other animals scampered for safety, she kill her preys in front of their comrades.

Oduaye dropped the cubs and stood up,his men are waiting for him at the front of his hut,he left the room and appeared to his men.
