Abagworo: Igala didn't colonize Igbo but we should rather say some Igbos share blood relationship with Igala. The Nri Igbos originate from Igala and occupy Northern part of Igboland in a mix with aborigines from Awka and Orlu. It is same as all Igbos outside the core Awka-Orlu area. Oguta people and most Western Igbos equally share blood relationship with Edo/Bini in a mix with the Awka-Orlu Igbos and some Igala-Igbos too. I believe it is same with most ethnic groups as nobody can claim to be pure except you lived in total isolation. This all you could contribute ? Just about anything to pull Nri and Anambra down. You are quite shameless !! |

Abagworo: Ihiala, June 15, 2019 (MOI) New Traditional Ruler of Ihiala, Oluoha, Igwe Thomas Ikenna Amuta Obidiegwu has vowed to ensure more peaceful reign during his tenure.
``I will ensure peace and oneness,’’ Igwe Obidiegwu vowed in an interview with Politics Correspondent of Ministry of Information based at Ihiala.
The new Oluoha made the vow in his Palace at Umunnebogwu Okohia, Ihiala, after a keenly contested Igweship with Chief Azuka Alagwu.
The tussle for the stool nearly tore Ihiala apart.
``I have come to harmonise and re-unite Ihiala, as a one happy family,’’ the Igwe said, stressing, ``my reign will be the new face of Ihiala, where everybody will be under one umbrella’’.
It has been gathered that Oluoha throne rotates among the seven sons of Dioha Royal Family. These sons represent some specific villages that trace their linage to Dioha.
The journey to the throne starts from Elekechem, adjudged as the eldest son of Dioha to others -- Nnebogwu, Mmenike, Adobihi, Irogbuewu, Abanike and Ezeogu.
It rotates within these royal sons (villages) of Dioha.
It was also gathered that that there were three documents that also spells out guidelines to Oluohaship.
Igwe Obidiegwu noted that the first of such documents emanated from the Smith Enquiries, while the second was entire Ihiala Constitution as well as Code of conduct for Oluoha of Ihiala.
He said the third document spells out the rotation, known as the summary of the agreements of the seven sons of Dioha and their representatives.
It is that agreement that spells out, how each of the families, whose turn to produce Oluoha and how they would produce a candidate.
``It is this document that produced the late Oluoha, Dr Cosmas Okechukwu from Elekechem.’’
Igwe Obidiegwu noted that before his emergence, he went through all the procedures as prescribed in all documents relating to the installation of Oluoha, just as was followed to produce the last monarch.
``It is the Okpara of Nnebogwu that produced me, before handing over to the other six Okparas, of Dioha Royal Family.’’
When aspirants were whittled down to three from six, each of the remaining three aspirants was asked to bring a person each to make up an18-man Committee that made the final selection.
``The result eventually produced me,’’ Igwe Obidiegwu said.

However, they still maintain some of their original Omanbala trademark. For instance, the " Oluoha" root word is written in Anambra variance while the suffix in Imo variance which support my argument. Yet , they practice Nze na Ozo which instil a,certain knowledge and character in the practitioners. Ihiala is fully Omanbala and proudly so. |

The central Igbo adopted in those areas matters less but the dialect stays same. Nnewi don't say ohia, never. It was the Igbo Izugbe that is destroying our dialects. For example , the famous masquerade ajofia is named according to their original lect. Secondly, Ora izu which the traditional ruler goes by shows Nnewi is strong Omanbala group. Thirdly, the name ana edo ends the debate. Nnewi is strongly Omanbala. |

IgbofromDelta: Nice write up.
No doubt a significant number of communities in Anambra and Igbo parts of Delta State have Nri Eri origin and influence.
However a huge majority of communities in Igboland have nothing to do with Eri and Nri in origin or influence. Many Igbo groups like Isu, Oka (Awka), Olu (Orlu), Adama etc were already in existence before Eri Nri migrated to Igboland.
Nze title is practiced by many communities in Imo and Abia states who are not associated with Eri Nri and do not recognize their influence and authority. Directly or indirectly every single part of Igbo land and beyond has Omanbala/ Nri/Eri influence. That's is a debate you can't win. Awka is part and parcel of Omanbala culture don't separate us you devious divisionist. Isu of Anambra has been swallowed by Omanbala culture and today we are one. Orlu and Olu are not the same thing! Nze na Ozo institution is an Omanbala/ Nri invention. Therefore, any town in this planet earth that practices Nze na Ozo should pay homage accordingly. Today, I see Anambra people doing anyantolukwnu dance that is not originally part of your culture but was part of the southern Igbo (Uratta, Ikwerre, Ngwa, etc) style of dancing. This is how cultural convergence occurs. We now do three tap forearm handshake. This is how cultural convergence occurs and a new identity is born and propagated. This is nothing new.
However, it is one thing to talk about this modern convergence and another to state Nri's central influence in the face of overwhelming contradiction throughout the entire Igbo ethnolinguistic region. Anambra people don’t dance with their butt shaking, it’s immoral and disgusting. We do high morale dance steps. No Anambra person can dance that your step in the presence of his kinsmen. It’s considered immoral! |

ChinenyeN, we can agree that not all Igbo groups had a direct Nri influence but traditions were passed down through association and interaction. There is no way Nri could have invented all the Igbo traditions because there were other groups and very influential ones , who live in the region and contributed immensely. For instance, Ofala/Ovala was an Onicha invention.
Don’t get me wrong , I understand that you are unfamiliar with some of our traditions , yet , Ngwa men like Abaribe literally dresses like an Ozo man and even share Nze handshake with Anambra men like Chidoka. ChinenyeN: It is not news that Eri and his group were taught the culture by the locals. That should show you just how much was already in place before their arrival. You want to mention aspects of language and culture that predate all the sound shifts and all the identity shifts for the past six millennia and attribute it to Eri. If I am to be straightforward and honest, Idennaa, I truly encourage you to study more about the actual limitations of Eri and his descendants' hegemony, and about Igbo history, culture, language and identity in general. There is much to learn, and I sincerely and earnestly encourage you to learn it. I never said Eri masterminded the creation of Igbo culture but Nze na Ozo, Ikenga etc. is particularly an Nri creation. However, what we know about Omanbala/Nri culture was a fusion of the culture of the aboriginals and the Eri and his descendants that settled primarily in the Omanbala country. However, Nri leadership and spiritual direction was critical in all of these, hence , the vast prominence of the Nri in most aspect of Igbo culture. There is a very good reason why the Eze Nri was crowned and venerated across the Omanbala area. |
Politics › Re: . by IDENNAA(m): 5:46pm On Feb 04, 2020 |
ChinenyeN: Perhaps you should learn more about Igbo history, culture and the general ethnolinguistic region. The hegemony of that uninspiring Eri and his descendants was not all-inclusive. Don't try to paint a picture of influence that did not exist. Otherwise, you make yourself look stupid, because we can all easily verify the limits of Eri's people and how so many of us neither recognize nor acknowledge them.
As for my name, I have not changed it out of respect for my mother who named me. I still do not like the name. It's bland. It's Christian. It's a chi-name for the sake of the gods. Chi-names are uninspired. However, in Ngwa, there is the culture of a person adopting a new name for themselves later in life. I've long since done that, but it isn't something that you are privy to. After all, you are neither my friend, nor are you my family. Perhaps , you should stop living in denial and accept the status quo. I have read Igbo culture long enough to make simple identification based on Nri influence. It could be that your definition of influence is different from what we know. We know for sure that Ngwa bears the name Nwanze which means son of a noble. So, let’s stop the theatrics and face the truth. The four market days were Omanbala invention and if not for that you wouldn’t know the name of the days of the week. Indeed, Eri didn’t just inspire you but helped in moulding your culture. |
