Lol. I am even commending your for growing maybe an ounce in your understanding over the past decade.
ChinenyeN , Eri doesn’t have to inspire you but as long as you consider yourself an Igbo then you can’t deny the overreacting influence of Eri and his descendants. I applaud you for standing up for your clan but all fingers are not equal. You can’t disman the revered place of Nri culture and even in your own immediate family. Let’s start with your name...it’s Anambra inspired. You even mentioned how you didn’t like the name some years back and I thought you woulda changed it. We have been on this for over a decade and you haven’t created Ngwa name of the week. You are beating a dead horse. Nri culture is the face of Igbo culture which Ngwa is under its umbrella. Daalu

Few years ago, a man from Udi was also called Onye Anambra, and few 30yrs ago, a man from Abakaliki was also an Onye Anambra.

You don't have any point.
The Omanbala/Anambra nomenclature was used because of the history of the river in that region , the legends that lived there and the culture. For the fact that Ebonyi and Enugu were included in the old Anambra doesn't explain a single identity. We knew the difference.

Agreed. Izugbe has not achieved what it was created for, and to make matters worse, it has contributed towards the stagnation of the language. Izugbe essentially is doing the opposite of what the creators intended. Ogbalu is turning in his grave.

At the very least, Izugbe should be supplanted by the urban speech standards (NCI and SCI). As it is now, Izugbe is technically a defunct standard/speech form.
Well on point. And like you rightly suggested, perhaps , we should adopt the North Central Igbo and South Central Igbo. Igbo Izugbe is only used for news casting in Igbo. Which is a mockery.

Izugbe was supposed to the literary standard that everyone would adhere to. It was supposed to quiet the dialects and grow the centralized language, but it ultimately failed.
Thank you for that excellent observation. Because when I listen to different Igbo speakers they all tend to converse in their own primary dialect. If anything , the Igbo Izugbe did more harm than good because it brought about a forced social events that may have harmed the growth and development of the state. I will like to hear an Aro man speak his primary dialects. Lets print 1000 dictionaries if so be it but lets preserve all Igbo cultures uncluding languages.

Igbo Izugbe once called Isoma-Igbo has evolved overtime and would continue evolving.

It is not perfect, has faults but has come to stay. Igbo Izugbe was a British experiment to ease communication barrier that impeded colonialism in the east. Bonny and Onitsha were the testing ground of Isoma-Igbo and was used to spread Christianity and colonial rule in Igboland.

When next you want to question Igbo-Izugbe, maybe you'll need to visit Bishop Crowther and the likes of Oraka in their graves to question their motive.

And the answer they'll give you is this:

"If the Yoruba's accepted Oyo Yoruba without questioning me and the Nupe's accepted Bida Nupe without questioning me, because it helped to unite this fragmented groups into one strong ethnicity, why then should you the enemies of your Igbo tribe question my motives. Why don't you improve on what bounds you together, unite into one common goal and reach for the skies".

This is for the Omanbala, Ngwa, Ika, Ndokwa and Ikwerre separatist asking the motives of Igbo Izugbe and the above is what late Bishop Crowther will tell you.
Igbo Izugbe is nothing but a weakly manufactured Igbo to hoist an identity that never existed. Igbo Izugbe must be trashed !

UdechiHD is right.
Ndiigbo never had kingdoms.
The key feature of kingdoms is that lands belong to the king and their people were the subjects of the king, we were a land of free people and were no subjects to any one.
Ndiigbo never had such. What we had were Okpala ukwus, who held Ofo and servered as representative of the people with their permission.
Land in Igboland always belonged to families(Umunna) and the Okpalaukwu only represented the clan and did not dictate to them.

The Obis of Nnewi were merely decorated Okpalaukwus with the Igwe of Nnewi being their leader.

Igbo enwe eze and Igbo ama eze represent who our people are.
Igbo didnt have king in the sense of monarchy but the case of Eze Nri was unique because he wilded both cultural influence and spiritual control and tributes were paid to him. Eze Nri is chosen directly from the descendants of Eri.

People can practice what they want to but my duty as onye Anambra is to protect and advance my culture, simply. This brings me to ask this question again, what is the essence of Igbo Izugbe ?
Politics › Re: . by IDENNAA(m):
I had to unpack the bollocks you wrote up there. First of all, the Eze Nri is not just a chief priest but a spiritual and cultural leader who didnt wield any military powers. He lives mostly in seclusion , celebrate the Igu Aro , initiate the ozo , and igba afa etc. Many Nri communities used to pay tribute(Ikpo Nhu) to the Eze Nri. So, he is not a king like Oba of Bini but he wielded much influence , especially in Anambra ,Enugu, Delta ,and Northern Imo. Dont get me wrong , I am not saying Nri invented most of what we know as Omanbala culture today but they spearheaded it. You dont have to throw those little jibes at Nri but you cant change the records.

If you want to present the argument that says Eze Nri is a mere chief what then do you call the men at the apex of Nze na Ozo like the Agbalanze , Ndichie Ume etc. I also noticed you tried very hard to bring Eze Nri in comparisons with Eze Aro but the latter wielded no cultural influence. Nri and Aro were not the same, while Aro was set up as a money making venture(irrespective of the source) Nri was a spiritual and culrural Mecca with Eze Nri as a priest King with Mbuluchis. Ama ka nmili ama oga akikia ka dia n'aru...You ca never undo the greatness of Nri. And like I said many towns in Anambra contributed to the Omanbala culture..the Onichas, the Idenmilis , the Aguleri , the Oyis , the Awkas etc. These areas and more made what I refer to Omanbala culture.

Ezeulu is a chief priest who was assigned to a shrine. I am eminently from the area Achebe wrote about, Idenmili. Dont teach me my history , thats my job.

UdechiHD:
You mean the chiefdom of Nri! Inasmuch as we want to propagate Igbo culture, we should be mindful on how we enthrone certain falsehood as truth. There was nothing like Nri kingdom. How do you elevate a chief priest of a village to a king? Who did this Nri kingdom rule over? A supposed Kingdom without a subject nor an army, let alone a dynasty. Please let's stop this mockery. Kingship was alien to the Igbo people. The Aro's were the only group that had the qualities of a real Kingdom, yet there weren't regarded as such.

Even those who ascribed kingship to themselves in the western Igbo were not really Kings in the real sense. There were like a council of elders, with a leader heading the area of influence. Such was the case of Aro, Aboh, Agbor etc.

This political elevation of Nri or Eri as the cradle of Igbo civilization is stale. I've even seen a campaign of calumny by a few people to connect Nri influence to as far as Igbo Ukwu. Can a child be older than the father? Who in their senses would link a bronze excavations far older than a relatively new community. Most feel that by associating Nri to the Igbo Ukwu bronze work that it will automatically elevate them to Ife and Benin status.
.
Please enough of this. The Igbo history is never centred on a ancestor. The earliest settlements of the Igbo's, generally agreed by historians is the Awka, Orlu, Owerri and Okigwe heartland. And these facts can be quantified because these areas have buried artifacts of earliest Igbo civilization (Igbo ukwu and Ibagwa) as well as two dominant groups in the Awka and Isu are thousands of years older than Nri. These groups have no recorded history of migrating from anywhere and have been practicing Igbo customs since ages.
This is coming from a very ignorant place. To start with Eze in Igbo land means king. So , why should you refer to Eze Nri as a chief ? You came across as if you wanted to make a legitimate argument but you are only driven by jealousy and inferiority complex...a glance from afar tells me you are certainly from Imo state.

I am not here to,debate a hopeless man without culture or identity! But , everything that has been written about Nri were generated by research spanning over a millennium. When the colonial master arrived they took middlemen with them who were familiar with the area and asked questions. Remember , Nri was tucked into the Omanbala hinterland and it was reference that took them specifically to Agukwu. The invention of Nri played a formative role in shaping Igbo culture.
I hate to debate a cultureless man with absolutely nothing to be proud of or fight for. Go down to Imo and celebrate iwa akwa! Usu enwero onu !

kayfra:
Igala may not be related to everyone in southeast Nigeria, especially those of Aro and/or Jewish origin but Igala is related to Nri people considering some related cultures between us. Although, some South-easterners believe that Eri/Eli was the father of all Igbo people, while some disagree with that. But Eri, as a person, how was he related to Igala if actually he was?

According to some Igbo historians, Atta, one of the sons of Eri was the founder of Igala people. But Igala was not founded by one person as it is popular that Igala settled in Wukari-Taraba state after coming from Egypt through Borno … and later migrated from Wukari to Idah. In addition, Attah is a tittle in Igala land not a person as they said, and it means father. So, Attah Igala means Father of Igala. Thus, this version does not have any truth.

Another version said that Eri migrated from Igala area to Aguleri and later married an Igala wife who begot a son called Onoja Oboli, and that the Onoja later founded Igala. This is so cyclic and very contradictory. If Eri migrated from Igala which was already in existence before even marrying his wife or getting a son, how come the same Igala will be founded by Onoja? This also does not hold water.

The third version said that Eri came from heaven with his wife and settled near Omabala river. He later got a child called Idah who founded Igala. Again, this is very strange to many popular world historians as Idah was just a location and not the name of person. Idah was from Ona Imuda, meaning the road has ended because the road or path they were following during their (Igala people) migration ended at the bank of river Niger and they Igala people had to settle down there.

Till date, no man or ruler or Attah Igala among the royal clan had/has Idah as his name. This makes this version also false. There is another version which is still different. These inconsistence versions by Igbo historians could not provide provable facts. However, all of them point to one direction, and that is; Eri or Igbo was the father of Igala people.

Republicans my ass. Your higher caste had Eri and imported Obi. Then the Arochukwu superior Igbos too had their own system. Just so happens most of the Igbos are dispersed people with no homogeneous history. Kiss that Republicanism to a lack of structure
Onicha inherited some very minor nomenclature from Bini. And thats a given because Bini was both powerful and influencial in the midwest , but Igbo is way too strong.. Even Umuoji and Obosi take the Iyasele title like Bini, just like you borrowed the Oba title from Bini. Bini also practiced Ikenga and our 4 market days. Igala , Ikwerre , Ika , Ukwuani etc also speak Igbo and practice our culture. Imagine Ikwerre that were Bini migrants but today they have been swallowed by the consuming influence of Igbo culture. In the next 50 years Bini will be speaking Igbo. We dont need war to colonize anybody. They just willingly merge. Very powerful !

The rest of the incoherent rubbish you wrote there belong to the dustbin. And , yes , Igbo had an Nze na Ozo system of governance that governed the people.

Anambra Internal Revenue Service Targets Increase In State IGR

The Chairman Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, AiRS, Dr David Nzekwu has stressed the importance of dedication to duty.

Dr Nzekwu stated this during a meeting with all the Zonal Tax Authorities in Anambra Central, North and South and their subordinates at the Revenue house, Awka.

He encouraged them to put in more effort while acknowledging the tremendous increase in the state IGR to sixteen billion naira in 2019, which he described as impressive.

He said ANSSID has been useful and helpful in linking individual transactions made by taxpayers in the state.

Dr Nzekwu further pledged to raise the state IGR to nothing less than forty billion naira in 2020.

He stated that every company who fails to file their Annual Tax Returns after the stipulated date of January 31st 2020 would be debited with the sum of five hundred thousand naira penalty, while the individuals would also be debited with the sum of fifty thousand naira respectively if they fail to file theirs after 31st March, 2020.

He said, he had already written to the state Head of Service and the governor intimating them on the issue of filing of Annual Tax Returns by the individual and civil servants.

The meeting was coordinated by the Head Assessment and Collections, AiRS, Mr, Chika Ofomata who briefed the participants on the agenda of the meeting which bothers on key performance review, new direction for Direct Tax Assessment, guidelines for 2020 year of assessment and KPI for Assessment officers.
For well over 5 years Obiano is yet to publish Anambra state internally generated revenue. Obiano is pathetic! We are waiting for his Soludo to come and win!
