INTRODUCTION
This article is based on Toyota branded hybrid cars, specifically, PRIUS.
Hybrid electric vehicles(HEV), are a luxury to own, because of the many benefits such vehicles come with.
For instance, they've a low emissions carbon footprint; and tremendous fuel cost savings, etc.

Lots of potential hybrid car buyers, see the initial cost of purchase of such cars as exorbitant, or to say the least, very expensive.

One of the reasons such cars are expensive is because of the cost of production of the hybrid battery itself, and the benefits in terms of maintenance cost savings that would accrue to the customer spread over down over the years.

The composition of the battery, is totally different from the normal car battery. The normal car battery is lead acid type, while the hybrid battery is solely a NIMH (Nickel metal hydride ). The electrodes are made from transition metals, which have several applications in other fields.

DOES THE BATTERY LAST FOREVER?
I don't think so. Whatever goes through wear and tear, frequent usage, would definitely someday, fail.
Even healthy human beings suddenly falls sick, and if that person isn't lucky, could give up the ghost.
Toyota says its hybrid batteries lasts for the entire life of its hybrid vehicles, and at the same time says such batteries are under a warranty of 10years/150,000miles.

WHY DO SUCH EXPENSIVE BATTERIES FAIL?

*due to excessive mileages. It should be noted that if a car's mileage, for instance, was around, 300, 759miles, that the car should fail instantly. The operating voltage of the battery, and its amperages would still be able to absorb the load from the car's hybrid control systems. In some instances, the battery would suddenly go out of service as its state of charge (SOC) drops to 0%.

*excessive temperatures. because of the chemical composition of hybrid batteries electrolytes, excess heat tends to cause increased pressure buildups in battery modules.
It so very important to ensure that all blower fan inlet openings are not blocked; blower fans are working optimally.
It is this heat build up in this batteries that cause battery electrolyte leaks on hybrid battery terminals, and explosions also.

Exposing the car for long in the sun, also has its impacts on the battery. Get a shady place to park the car.

*manufacturing processes error. Not all battery modules manufactured in the production facility, would have the same precision during production . Errors could be introduced from human sources.
When such errors are noted as a result of public complaints, companies issue out recalls for such defects.

*driving conditions of car owner. aggressive driving, would shorten the lifespan of the battery; allowing the car in R(reverse), without moving, would abruptly drain the juice in the battery.


SYMPTOMS OF A FAILING HYBRID BATTERY

1. All the dash lights would be displayed on the dashboard, and on the MFD(multifunction display). You'll see lights like Triangle caution sign, check engine light, etc.

2. Unusual engine noise. The engine would frequently be running, instead of the normal switching of both ICE and electric motors.

3. Terrible gas mileage. The fuel consumption of the car would drop drastically from maybe 45-22MPG. If you notice such a deviation of the fuel economy from what it used to be, you've got a battery problem lurking already.

4. Fluctuating fuel gauge. The gauge fluctuates and gives a wrong reading.

5. Sudden drop in battery bars. You parked and left the car with a full battery bar, and suddenly when you came to start the car, you realized the bars have descended to a single bar. At thus point, the engine quickly starts to recharge the hybrid battery.

6. Blower fan comes on regularly. When the fan comes on regularly, it points to the fact that the hybrid is extremely getting heated up, and capacity is depreciating. So, the fan comes on, to help keep it cool, temporarily.

THE FIX?
Normally when hybrid batteries fail, it doesn't mean the entire battery modules in the pack have failed. It could be either one, or two modules have failed.

*Outright replacement. Such batteries can be replaced by purchasing a new one from the company concerned.
Toyota offers a 10year/150, 000miles warranty on its battery pack. It cost thousands of dollars to purchase. Its up to 3000$.

*Recondition the battery. This option is somewhat cheaper, but the labour hours required is more.
The battery in this option is sourced from a low mileage car from a junkyard.
It's advisable to know the history of the donor vehicle. If that can't be ascertained, get a warranty from the supplier of the battery. That would present a win win situation for both parties.
You could get a number of modules online from eBay, and so on. Wherever you're getting your source batteries/modules from, ensure they're loaded tested before buying them.
The cost of a battery pack for a Prius us about 200-250, 000 naira.

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR BATTERY FIT

*Ensure the blower inlets located at the rear are not blocked by the seats coverings.

*Nip in the bud problems before they degenerate into bigger problems.
Don't ignore the triangle caution light sign(master warning light).
Get the car scanned for codes, and start from there.

*Sign up for a bimonthly battery health check. That would show you the current state of your battery, including battery block voltages, state of charge(SOC), and a lot more.
The health check is like a typical system that looks at the available amperage capacity of your battery.

*Carry out a recharge/discharge cycle two or three months, to bring the battery back to full capacity.
Check for corrosions on the battery terminals.
Corrosions o. the terminals would cause partial contact issues.

*Parking the car for long? If you won't be in town for months or weeks, you could pass your car to a friend to keep driving it, before you come. This is because, a parked hybrid car under the sun, would self discharge at a faster rate.
Hybrid batteries self discharge at a rate of 1% daily.

CONCLUSION
Bear in mind that your car's hybrid battery would not last you forever.
Proper preventive maintenance of such batteries, would extend the battery even beyond Toyota's 10year/150,000miles warranty.

Am currently eyeing a Corolla 2020 model Hybrid trim, considering the fact that it give about 52MPG than the basic Corolla 2020 LE that gives about 34MPG.

I will be doing a whole lots of running around, what do you advice, should I maintain the basic Corolla LE trim or Hybrid.

I love the Toyota brand cars; Corolla, Avalon and Lexus ES series, I am a lover of Sedan, sleek and compact car and Toyota has never disappointed me in these 3 models of the manufacturer.
Currently I drive Corolla '05 and my next target car to own is the Corolla 2020 Hybrid.

I just love it and it is simple and classic!

Let me tell you, it is an habit to either buy brand things or Second things. it is not a matter of never say never.
There are some people they can buy fourth hand products they are juat comfortable with it but I dislike such. That's is why you have things in various standards, go for the one you can afford but must be a Brand new.

This is a very expensive lesson, very very expensive.
So unfortunate that you had to learn this way because according to someone that said, the cost of your phone at 170k plus the cost of fixing the screen at 115k has already get you a Note 8 which is true.
I Don't understand why people can't buy brand new and genuine product from accredited dealer....becaise all these promo sales and UK used or Tokunbo products are penny wise Pounds and Dollar foolish.
It pays you to get a Brand new product from accredited dealers even if you will get it on mortgage, it really pays and keeps your mind at rest while you enjoy your products.

Its either uou hire a soldier man to his shop and trade in the phone for another for you or your just forhet your 170k and give the phone to your Baby to serve as Bible, Dictionary or Gaming because if you attempt to repair the Screen with another 115k you are just thrown encountered another loss because the phone it's self is substandard and you can't use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) on substandard products, it wont last at all, it will pack up again.

Did you go through that thread? Yes, the op might have generalised but reading the comments on that thread was disgusting and nauseating. If I hadn't grown up in Nigeria, I would have concluded that most Nigerian men are sick which obviously isn't the case.

It reali requires high level of smartness in dealing with this landlords and agents, presently i av deposited for a mini -flat apartment i want to occupy as soon as is completed, around iyana oworo, an agent linked me to the person in charge of the house, his a buildiing engineer so he showed me the house and the exact apartment i wil be occupying and told me all i need to know, he said the house wil be ready by end of February which was almost a month from then and told me i can always come to check the house any time but i should call whenever am coming cause he might be at lekki supervising other jobs he has, i do go there intermittently and there is always improvement, the last time i visited there as been gud improvement but am just worried of the delivery time he gave has passed he tries to tel me that my money is save and now when i called him yesterday he said i should give him a week more by Gods grace. I av make a deposit of 65% of the whole payment and i had him signed agreement of commitment before paying him and the agreement also covers our further transactions after the completion of the house. When he noticed my skepticism cause i was disturbing him with calls on how far about the apartment, he show me his family (wife and daughter ) and where he stays in case i cal him and his number its not through, i also made some findings about the man and the building so people told me that he stays in the neighbourhood and they confirmed that his a building engineer that he has even engineered like two buildings on that street and his about to start engineering another new building that is stil on foundation level which himself also told me all these, so now he has given me another a week again that all will be ready and i have planned i wil sleep in the apartment as soon as i get my key if it wil take me to buy Mat and mosquito coil.

I am 27, have been in a

I am from a muslim background and she is from a devoted and humble christian home and my mother loves her for who she is,recently since late last year i developed the interest of going to church and become a christian, so i started going to church a white garment church precisely and i really enjoyed my fellowship and worship in the church.
Few weeks back my mothers suspected that i do go to church and she asked me with a frown face then i told her that Yes am going to a church and am on my way right now for a fellowship,
she seized my bible instantly and i didnt argue with her but i told her that am going and that wont stop me to go to where am going and i told her that bye-bye.
By the time i came back from church she had told my dad and my dad called me, want me to confirm to him where i went to this morning i told him politely that Yes! I want to church for a special programme and he replied that he cannot dictate my life for me as a man that he can only advice me on how to live my life that i can either do Islam or
christianity religion but he told me that it would have being more better if i have being living on my own and i thanked him but my mother wasnt really pleased with my dads opinion on the issue. Two weeks later mother saw my white garment in my room while i was at work, she reported the case to my dad and my dad told ask me about the garment when i came and i told him that i own the garment and i put it on in church for worship service.

He replied that he thinks we have
concluded this issue now and told him Yes and he told my mother to leave me alone but my mum disagrees with my dads opinion that she is not in support i should become a christian that even if am married to a Deckoness that i shouldnt become a christian instead we should remain with our background religion respectively, i laughed it off and probabl she wouldnt know the implication of married couple practicing different religion.

Now my problem is that how i can
covince her to allow me be a christian and live a christian life cause i have been comfortable with the christianity religion and i enjoy it like that.
What do i do change her mind towards me?

Nice write up there, i always advocate that the two dominant religions we have in the country are reaching towards one main goal and i wil tel them that no religion is superior than the other cos both are preaching the same mission in the long run.
Presently am having a challenge of religion in my home cos my fiancee is from a christian home while am frm a muslim home, i neva see anytin in our religious backgrounds since we are not fanatical about it buh i later discover that it wil be much better if the whole family can be developed spiritually in one faith, so i decide to renounce my religion to christianity reason been that it is a religion with a free will and i enjoyed its teachings on the chistian.
So now my mother is against my decision and i told her that has she important to me has a mother so is my wife more important to me as the mother of my children and i wont allow to give chance to anytin that will shatter my home that the soul of my family is not based religion buh on love and that religion is just a passage.
So people should note and not let religious-differences over-take the love that you share.

Yea i quite agree with your friend's piece, it is just to unfortunate this days that religion wich suppose to have being a comfort arena where hopefulness can still be guaranteed is now the fore front of victimization, social vices and war.
