https://whistletimes.com/2020/07/05/stamp-duty/ It appears there is not end in sight for the suffering of Nigerians. Many Nigerians have argued that the country is increasingly becoming impossible to live in. The cost of everything has gone up significantly, transportation, food prices, fuel, exchange rate and many others. Nigerians have wondered where they went wrong. The suffering of ordinary Nigerians have increased dramatically. Just within the week, a Twitter user @harrisonmbamara shared pictures of a graduate from University of Ibadan who allegedly committed suicide citing difficulties and the hardship of being a Nigerian. On the 1st of July, the Federal Government reverted the price of petrol to 141 and 143 Naira, an increase in price from 123 Naira. While Nigerians were still complaining. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said henceforth, stamp duty will be paid on house rent and Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in line with its new adhesive duty. The FIRS Director, Communications and Liaison Department, Mr Abdullahi Ahmad, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Thursday. Whistle Times investigation shows that Nigerians are getting tired of being hit on every side. The name Nigeria is now almost equal to insecurity, yet, active steps are taken to ensure that people suffer as much as possible. During the announcement of the new stamp duty, Ahmad urged Nigerians and other residents to ensure that documents pertaining to rent or lease agreements for their homes or offices, C of O as well as a list of other common business-related transaction instruments are subjected to authentication with the new FIRS Adhesive Stamp duty. He said this was necessary in order to give the instruments the force of law and make them legally binding on all parties involved in such transactions. He added that the new FIRS Adhesive Stamp Duty came into being at the official inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Audit and Recovery of Back Years Stamp Duties recently in Abuja. It is not immediately clear how effective, this new introduction of Stamp duty will be. Nigerians however, hope that president Buhari will make haste and ensure that his promises of a better Nigeria is achieved as soon as practicable. Then she constantly dragged Iyabo Ojo and Timi Dakolu’s wife who told Nigerians of how she was raped by a popular pastor and the list goes on and go. Nigeria will survive. |
https://whistletimes.com/2020/02/06/president-buhari-2/ A Nigerian lecturer and Social advocate, Ebikapade Amasuomo has called on President Mummadu Buhari to live up to his electoral promises. In his address to the president, Ebikapade Amasuomo said; although I did not support president Buhari prior to his victory in 2015. I joined other Nigerians in rejoicing with the president over his victory. I genuinely wished him well. Nigeria is my only country, hence, it is my desire and wish that President Buhari will take the nation to greater heights. I believe that elections should never be a do or die affair, therefore, if your candidate do not win an election, the best thing to do is to join hands with the winner and hope for the best. It is therefore, heart breaking seeing the direction Nigeria is headed under President Buhari. Since 2015 till date, it’s been tales of woes and misfortune. Nigerian lives have never been this cheap throughout history. People are killed on daily basis. We have lost count of the number of people killed since May, 2015 till date. For how long shall Nigerians continue like this? The most painful part is that Nigerians are not seeing an angry president. We are not hearing from the president. The same Buhari who was granting media interviews all over the nation during his electioneering campaign in 2019 has refused to address Nigerians on the killings and kidnappings that have become a hallmark of his administration. Only recently, the South West region of the country decided to take measures to ensure protection of lives and properties in the region by setting up a regional security outfit. Such steps are indications of the fact that people are losing confidence in the ability of the federal government to protect them. It is obvious that if the security situation of the country remain in this present state, many more regions and even individuals may follow the South West example. Nigeria may end up with multiple security services which may present some challenges to the sovereignty of the state. In a bid to prevent the above scenario, Ebikapade Amasuomo appealed to the president to make haste while the sunshine. He pointed out that, it is not too late to save Nigeria. The president can still save the situation by first realizing that he is the President and that the buck stops at his table. Then he must take steps towards tackling security issues headlong through alleviation of poverty which is at the core of this current crisis. In addition, the social advocate said the president should push for a more inclusive government where people from various ethnic groups can have a sense of belonging. This is important as many Nigerians have accused president Buhari of pursuing an ethnic agenda through his appointments and body language. Ebikapade Amasuomo said, personally, apart from the border closure policy of this administration, I am yet to see any other tangible progress, policy or direction by this government. To me, it seems the president does not understand that he is the man at the helms of affairs. Nonetheless, I wish President Buhari all the best in his effort towards steering Nigeria out of this current quagmire.

A few months after the emergency of president Buhari as the winner of the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria. News began to emerge that some forces in the north were scheming to retain power in the region beyond 2023. Although it is not yet clear if these allegations are true. Many social media activists and some notable politicians hinted on the plan by some northern leaders to retain power beyond 2023. One of the early warnings came from a northern chieftain of the APC in Adamawa State. Ahmed Lawal a one time Organising Secretary of the APC in Adamawa State. Speaking after the 2019 governorship elections; Lawal said, some northern politicians were bent on frustrating the planned power rotation to the southern. Lawal, accused prominent members of the APC of anti party activities during the last general elections. He said “As a party with vision for equity and fairness, the APC has already planned to shift power to the southern part of Nigeria. ” It is worthy of note that some political elements in the Northern Nigeria are opposed to the arrangement. “They worked against APC during the last governorship elections with the aim of allowing the opposition PDP to win more states. ” This was done to build the PDP to be formidable to wrestle power from APC in 2023 against the interest of the south. Whistle Times investigations revealed that such insinuations have refused to die down. Recently when a prominent northern governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai advised Nigerians to drop the zoning arrangement for competency. Many Nigerians pointed at the 2023 presidency as Elrufai’s reasons for making such a statement. Although the governor did not specifically mention the 2023 presidency. However, the discuss about a northern scheme to retain power beyond Buhari’s current term continues to point in the direction of the Kaduna State governor. Whistle Times investigations shows that even a mere post on Twitter by the governor on a different issue will elicit response from followers accusing him of scheming to be president in 2023. The governor made a case for zoning to be expunged in a prologue titled, ‘Defeating a Determined Incumbent – The Nigerian Experience.’ The governor said Nigeria could not afford to continue with zoning between north and south. He had described zoning as a barrier to political equality. Similarly in May this year, a popular northern group, Arewa Consultative Youth Forum, said power will not shift to the south in 2023. The president of the group, Yerima Shettima told DAILY POST that power must remain in the North because Tinubu and his cabals have taken over the country. He stated that the question of power moving back to the South does not even arise; he said Buhari’s tenure does not count as a northern turn because he is being controlled by the south. In August, a prominent member of the APC and one of the party’s members of trustees, Yahaya Kwande said, the northern region might produce the next president after Buhari. Kwande’s remark draw the anger of the leader of Afenife, Chief Ayo Adebanjo who argued that some northern interest might be working against the unity of Nigeria. Recently there have been rumours among politicians that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is being punished by the cabal. Although the Vice President has been seen going round the country performing his duties, many opposition groups allege that the Vice President has been stripped of some key duties in the last few days. Some important groups in Southern Nigeria and their leaders have called on northern politicians to tread with caution on their quest to retain power beyond 2023. Chief Ayo Adebanjo of Afenife; Chief Edwin Clark, a leader from the Niger Delta; and a former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife. The elders wondered why the north will want to hold on to power after 8 years of Buhari’s presidency. The recent move by President Buhari to name a seven member Economic Advisory Council headed by Prof Doyin Salami was seen as an effort to curtail the influence of the Vice President ahead of 2023 by many Nigerians. Traditionally, Vice Presidents in Nigeria are tasked with heading the Economic Management Team of the country. Osinbajo currently head the Economic Management Team, however, the recent team set up by the president has a mandate to report directly to the president. Speaking on the move by the president, Papa Clark, said he doesn’t want to talk about Osinbajo because the Vice President because he has been dancing to the tune of the cabals all along. All I want to say is that in 2023, the South-East will have it.
