The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday boasted that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate for the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, will still lose the election petition case they took to the Supreme Court. This claim was made by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu in a press conference at the party’s national headquarters. The party also reacted to the claim by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) that Federal Government has ordered onslaught against judges in Nigeria in form of a request from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) that all banks release details of bank accounts of all justices of the Supreme Court. The APC said, “Ideally, we would not have responded to the so-called CUPP which is just an arm of PDP. Faced with the challenges that we currently have in this country, it is a complete waste of time to respond to charlatans. “But of you listened to the contents of the press conference they recently had, they said things that are very baffling and very disturbing and you at wish to ask yourself if these people are true Nigerians and if they mean well for the country. “Because when you disparage state institutions and you talk down and try to undermine an important institution such as the Judiciary, that is something that we should all be worried about and that is why we are responding to this. “It is not in our practice to arm-twist any institution whatsoever, least of them the Judiciary. We understand the importance of this arm of government; we understand that we are all surviving and living on the rule of law, and the only way to undermine the order and security of a nation is to undermine the Judiciary. “By the time you strangulate these judicial officers, then you are charting a path to the collapse of the institution that we all rely upon to survive as a nation. So, it is clearly not our practice but we also understand where PDP is coming from. “We understand that for 16 years, that has been the practice and perhaps they imagine that this is the instrument that any other political party would want to apply. We don’t need to strangulate the Judiciary and we don’t need to undermine any institution. We don’t need to disparage the Judiciary. And the issues before the Judiciary about the elections are clear. “We have an unprecedented delivery of judgment at the presidential tribunal the other time and so we are all happy to know that the PDP has taken the next step by going further to the Supreme Court and we are meeting them there. It is unfortunate that they cannot create new issues. “All the issue they have, have been put on the table and they don’t hold water. That is why they failed woefully at the tribunal. So, they still have this opportunity to repeat that failure,” he boasted. Read more here https://thickmatch.com/atiku-vs-buhari-pdp-will-lose-supreme-court-apc-boasts/

The Nicaraguan FA, Fenifut, have clarified the situation involving Juan Barrera and his vote for Lionel Messi in FIFA's The Best awards. Barrera had claimed that he didn't vote in the awards despite FIFA's documents saying that he'd voted for Messi, the eventual winner. Instead, it was vice-captain Manuel Rosas who voted for Messi and the Nicaraguan FA have blamed the mix-up as an "administrative error." Rosas was chosen to vote in the awards by Henry Duarte, coach of the Nicaraguan national team, because he'd previously voted. "Fenitfut would like to clarify that this whole situation was a misunderstanding," the Nicaraguan FA said in a statement. Rosas voted for Messi first, then Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo in his top three for FIFA's Men's Player of the Year. Amnesty international has reacted to the seven-count charge of treasonable felony and money laundering against detained activist and Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore by the Federal Government. Sowore, a presidential candidate in the February 2019 presidential election was charged along with Olawale Bakare, also known as Mandate. The charges were signed on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), by Aminu Alilu, a Chief State Counsel in the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice. In the charges instituted against the defendants, the prosecution accused Sowore and his co-defendant of committing conspiracy to commit treasonable felony in breach of section 516 of the Criminal Code Act by allegedly staging “a revolution campaign on September 5, 2019 aimed at removing the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” The prosecution also accused them of committing the actual offence of reasonable felony in breach of section, 4(1)(c) of the Criminal Code Act, by using the platform of Coalition for Revolution, in August 2019 in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, to stage the #RevolutionNow protest allegedly aimed at removing the President. It also accused Sowore of cybercrime offences in violation of section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, by “knowingly” sending “messages by means of press interview granted on Arise Television network which you knew to be false for the purpose of causing insult, enmity, hatred and ill-will on the person of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Reacting, Amnesty international in a post on its verified Twitter page condemned the charges. The global rights human organization described the charges against Sowore “as an attempt by the Nigerian authorities to deprive Sowore of his human rights” The post read: “Amnesty International condemns the bizarre charges pressed on activist Omoyele Sowore for expressing his views in media interviews. “The trumped up charges he is facing show an attempt by the Nigerian authorities to deprive him of his human rights; Omoyele Sowore continued incarceration on application of the Terrorism Act for exercising his right to freedom of expression is a misuse of the criminal system to silence dissent. “We call on the Nigerian authorities to respect and protect human rights of all persons without discrimination and ensure that it does not use its laws to justify violations of Omoyele Sowore human rights.” https://dailypost.ng/2019/09/22/amnesty-international-reacts-buhari-govt-slams-treason-charges-sowore/amp/

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counsels President Muhammadu Buhari to show humility and accept the bitter truth that poverty, internal conflicts, bloodletting, banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, abuse of human rights and general national insecurity have escalated under his divisive, vindictive and repressive administration. The party says instead of embarking on ego trip and picking a fight with the United Nation (UN) Rapporteur, Agnes Callamard, for highlighting the grave security issues in our country, which are already in the international domain, the Buhari Presidency should be seeking for help, seeing that is has no solution to the festering problem. If anything, the UN Rapporteur report only reinforces the positions of credible international bodies including the United States Department of State, Amnesty International (AI) and Transparency International (TI) which also reported cases of arbitrary and extra-judicial killings, illegal arrests, arbitrary detention, torture, festering violence, reported disappearances and abuse of human rights under the Buhari administration. Moreover, the PDP holds that the UN report is a vindication of its stance as well as that of millions of Nigerians that the ineptitude and repressive tendencies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under President Buhari are emboldening acts on violence and fuelling impunity, division and intolerance in the polity. Today, Nigeria is becoming one of the most insecure places to live. Citizens can no longer move freely around their country as marauders, kidnappers, insurgents and bandits take over the highways, pillage communities, kill and take citizens captive at will. By fighting persons or organization that tell us the truth instead of seeking solutions, the Buhari Presidency is doing a great disservice to Nigerians especially those in communities being ravaged by insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and ethnic clashes. The PDP holds that at the moment, what ought to be paramount to the Buhari Presidency should not be the sentiments of regime image but the welfare and security of vulnerable Nigerians. President Buhari should therefore caution his handlers on their unguarded statements on grave national issues. He should immediately accept responsibility for his failures and seek help since he has not demonstrated the capacity to effectively led a nation as complex as Nigeria at the moment. The truth can be bitter, but in its acceptance lies the solution. Read more here https://thickmatch.com/un-rapporteur-accept-truth-seek-help-pdp-counsels-buhari/

Kanye West has seen the light. Though last year was meant to bring Yandhi into the fold, Kanye West decided to hit the pause button for reasons unknown. As the project ultimately leaked in a piecemeal state, many seemed to wonder whether Ye had opted to revisit the drawing board. Evidently, such a theory proved to be true. Following the emergence of Sunday Service and its skyrocketing popularity, Kim Kardashian took to Twitter to unveil what many correctly assumed to be a Kanye West tracklist. As of today, the official Kanye West website has confirmed the news, placing the tracklist and album title front and center. In fact, an image of the twelve-song tracklist slash possible album cover is the only thing available on the website at all. Clearly, Yeezy has moved to confirm what we all came to be an assumed fact. Still, questions of sonic direction still linger. Is Jesus Is King to be a full-fledged gospel album, or will it retain some of Yandhi's qualities? As of now, all we have to go off is this alleged snippet of "Sweet Jesus," which teases a (dare-I-say) College-Dropout-esque aesthetic. Regardless of how this one shakes out, we won't have to wait much longer for an answer. Jesus Is King arrives in full on September 27th.
