She did not use any software but auto backup on google drive to backup her pictures, the thieves were not smart enough to factory reset it before taking pictures of themselves. It is more functional to use find my phone app as you can always know the location of your phone, render it unusable, wipe the content and also call it even if the sim have been removed.
