9jalyte: My friend, that is trash! When you were entering the medical school, was there anything about the hazards of medical practice that was hidden from you. You decided to go to take up the challenges, stop acting as if you just realize that you will deal with infectious diseases after you took your oath. For the records, among those directly involved in managing patients, the Drs are among the least exposed to hazard. In assessing that, look at the parameters used 1. Contact with patients 2. contact with body fluids, 3. contact with chemical or radiation/radioactive/biohazards.I'm thinking of hiring a search team to search for the sense in this post....who is comparing d hazard allowances of d various professions? Don't these other professions have UNIONS that can fight for their entitlements? And u talk about pharmacists being exposed 2 patients and pharmaceutical waste!!!....I laugh...it's obvious you have never set foot in a govt hospital in Nigeria....doctors make d MOST-DIRECT contact with sick patients, including physically touching them during examinations. I wonder what risk could possibly be greater than this....if u repeat everything u have just written on Night of a Thousand Laughs, MTN or Etisalat will make you a comedy ambassador. |
In 2003 a professor of Community Health Prof (Mrs) Obehi Okojie said to us "many people hate doctors, but they want their children to study Medicine"...I've never heard a more honest statement in my entire life....If there was a world cup 4 hypocrisy, Nigeria would be winning it every four years. So all u guys who have been insulting and bashing Nigerian doctors out of a combination of envy, jealousy and ignorance are now leading d "mourning" for Dr Adadevoh.....oh I see....all of a sudden, u guys appreciate d sacrificies doctors make for their patients despite all d challenges confronting d health sector.....challenges which d FG is not willing to address....well your "friend" Goodluck Jonathan has just travelled to Germany 4 medical check-up and left d rest of u ignorant people behind in Nigeria. Well, at least u can call your JOHESU "consultants" to come and attend 2 u if u have any health issues. But I forgot...since d outbreak of Ebola, JOHESU has been unusually silent....of course they are...because they lack d intellectual capacity and proactiveness to deal with d Ebola outbreak...AFTERALL, IT WAS THEIR "DARLING" NURSE WHO ESCAPED QUARANTINE, RAN TO ENUGU, AND PUT D LIVES OF MILLIONS OF NIGERIANS AT RISK...so it's back 2 d usual unsung heroes "the doctors" to handle. Dr Adadevoh isn't d only doctor who makes sacrifices for her patients. Thousands of doctors all over d country do. Some of us even go as far as making financial donations on behalf of poor patients who can't afford healthcare. I've witnessed this, and I've partaken in it as well. Now let's look at this: Contracting a disease like Ebola is part of d HAZARDS of d medical profession, and currently d FG pays doctors a monthly hazard allowance of N5k....so Dr Adadevoh was entitled to the GRAND SUM of N5k monthly for putting herself at risk of contracting d Ebola virus as well as other highly-transmissible diseases like HIV, Hepatitis and Lassa Fever (which killed a dear friend and colleague of mine some years back). And somebody wants us to just sit back and act like nothhing's wrong with d system? NO we won't. You guys attack Nigerian doctors for running private clinics, but all of a sudden, u turn around and praise Dr Adadevoh who was ALSO WORKING in a private hospital as at d time of her death. U Nigerians are amazing. Well, in case u don't know, d ban on residency training will have disastrous consequences on d health sector....consequences that only d average Nigerian like you and I will suffer. Politicians will continue to travel abroad for d slightest headache, while you and me are left in Nigeria to suffer d rot of d health sector. A ban on residency training means a stoppage in d production of SPECIALIST DOCTORS. So by the time that your child with Sickle Cell has to travel abroad to see a specialist, or women with Fibroids have to travel abroad for a simple Myomectomy operation, you will realize d rot in which d FG has placed d health sector. So continue your blind and sentimental support for stupidity....as for we doctors, d sky is always d limit, no matter d circumstance. Opportunities are limitless both within and outside d country. We are INDISPENSABLE, and d FG will soon realize that and go on it's knees. I'm aware from some very reliable sources that d FG is already trying to intervene through secret meetings involving Sen David Mark. As for d rest of you "mourning" Dr Adadevoh, keep your condolences to yourself....d NMA doesn't need them....and d Adadevoh family certainly doesn't need them.....bunch of sentimental hypocrites. |

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has ordered all resident doctors to reject the federal government directive and not collect any sack letters from the management of their hospitals. After a meeting by the association’s National Officers’ Committee, NOC, on Friday, the doctors were also advised not to sign any register opened by the Nigerian government or any hospital. On Thursday, President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the sack of about 16,000 resident doctors in Nigeria. Resident doctors are also members of the NMA, which has been on strike since July 1. The directive by Mr. Jonathan was stated in an internal memo dated August 13 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, L.N. Awute. The memo was addressed to tertiary hospitals. Mr. Awute said the directive was given in a view of the challenges facing the health sector while hospitals could employ part time doctors (locum) who must be of ‘good behaviour’. The memo also contained a sample of sack letters to be issued all the resident doctors in the different hospitals. “In compliance with this order, I am to regrettably inform you that your appointment in this hospital is hereby terminated forthwith,” the permanent secretary said in the specimen sack letter she asked hospitals to issue resident doctors. However, the NMA, in its resolution, ordered medical doctors to not apply for part time job as directed by FG’s circular. “For the avoidance of doubt, no medical doctor no matter how hungry, should pick up any locum appointment with the government hospitals as directed by the circular. Any doctor who flouts this directive, does so at his/her own peril,” the association said. All doctors were also directed to remain committed to volunteering to help contain the Ebola Disease outbreak in Nigeria. The association also advised the Nigerian government to ensure that people under the deadly disease surveillance do not travel outside their domain of residence. The NMA also admonished all its members to remain calm and wait for further directive from the association. The association condemned the president’s directive and asked him to withdraw the suspension circular and unconditionally reinstate all the ‘so-called sacked’ resident doctors. It demanded that the government show commitment in resolving current impasse with the association rather than resorting to punitive measures that will only further aggravate the already deplorable situation. The federal government had in its circular indicated that the resident doctors were being sacked because the government was suspending residency training “indefinitely.” The NMA, however, advised that rather than abolish residency training, government should show more commitment towards improving the already poorly funded programme. Since d JOHESU "consultants" can't seem to handle d Ebola menace, we have no other option but to sacrifice and make a comeback. |
God bless u my brother. |
As far as medical practice is concerned, contracting Ebola Virus falls under d category of "JOB HAZARDS".....and as at now, d govt pays a pathetic N5,000/month to doctors as hazard allowance....and tomorrow morning one hippopotamus will wake up on d wrong side of his bed and start criticizing doctors when we are fighting for what we rightfully deserve.....This country is sick! |

No matter d amount of connections your boss has, HE STILL OWES YOU......that's d most important thing, and that makes him POWERLESS if u decide to take up d matter. The police is your best option here. But the type of police approach u take will depend on whether or not u still need d job, because your boss is likely to sack u for having d "AUDACITY" to report him to d police. But either way, if u invest d 200k wisely, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck. |
ChrisOD: So your son died in a car crash. Sorry for your loss. Your loss is not special as it is just one among many other human losses from car accidents experienced in Nigeria on daily basis.Let me guess....his EXTREMELY RICH father bought it for him. |
Whenever terrorists strike civilized countries like d USA, every citizen irrespective of race, tribe or political affiliation, come together & unite against a common enemy.....but in Nigeria, d slightest terrorist attack triggers an "INTERNET WAR" between APC & PDP supporters, as well as accusations & counter-accusations between government & d opposition...this isn't about Buhari or GEJ or PDP or APC or Tinubu or Lai Mohammed or Reno Omokri....this is a WAR AGAINST NIGERIANS....bombs do not recognize ethnic, religious or political affiliations. D sooner we realize this, d better.....Boko Haram's strongest weapon is d political disunity among Nigerians. |
Nigerian Troops Clear Terrorists Bases In Balmo Forest: Capture Foreign Mercenaries “Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend. Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks. In the latest twist in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram terrorists, the Nigerian military announced that it has conducted major breakthrough just hours ago. In a statement issued to the media, and one also obtained by SaharaReporters, military spokesmen say their persistence has paid off in the continuing fight. The statement appears below: “Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend. Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks. “Terrorists and armed gangs operating in the forests were completely rooted out while some were captured during the operation. Among those captured were two foreigners who are suspected to be mercenaries. Also captured are several weapons and equipment including power generating sets, communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, foodstuff and kitchen utensils. “In another development, over 44 terrorists have died in Kerenoa and adjoining communities, following an encounter with troops who repelled their attack on the communities. Armed with IEDs and other high caliber weapons, a large number of terrorists had carried out a predawn attack on the communities but met with stiff resistance of the troops. During the operation, several of them were captured as well as weapons and ammunitions of various calibre. “Meanwhile, troops on routine patrol around Banki and Miyanti in Borno State during the weekend fought through an ambush laid by terrorists resulting in casualties on both sides. Altogether, a total of 6 soldiers were lost in the various encounters with terrorists during the weekend while those wounded are receiving treatment. Me_Aboki: OP: why must you come here to display your absurd position, using quite silly comparisons to make your ridiculous claim?Take it or leave it, the doctor is the most IDEAL person to head any hospital because of his vast knowledge in relation to patient care....d average doctor has some knowledge about pharmacy, lab science and nursing....but these other guys have NO KNOWLEDGE about medicine...the major problem with these JOHESU guys (apart from d Pharmacists) is JEALOUSY and INFERIORITY COMPLEX....and this has been on-going for decades....instead of appreciating d position which God has given them, and see themselves as distinguished professionals, they choose instead to rub shoulders with doctors, which is absolutely ridiculous IMHO.....u need to visit federal and state hospitals and see d negative behaviour of some of these guys, particularly towards doctors. It smells of pure envy.....and come to think of it...whenever a sick person visits a hospital, he doesn't go to see d nurse or lab scientist. He goes to see d DOCTOR. The doctor is d rightful owner of d patient and takes responsibility whenever things go wrong.....whenever a patient feels poorly-treated and decides to press charges, it is d DOCTOR that gets sued, not d lab scientist or nurse. This is because we have a GREATER RESPONSIBILITY in relation to patient care.....all this unnecessary rivalry has to stop before we can move forward. |
oweniwe: The thread's starter is an arrogant and ignorant b1tch.Keep d beef coming.....we love y'all........and 4 d record YES we are indispensable, punk!......oh, one more thing....it's not lab coats, but WARD coats....OLODO! |
Seriously, I can't find d words 2 describe these ignorant people, so I'll just quote a colleague Dr. U.R. Umuago: "When a strike starts, don't go reminding us of the hippocratic oath which u know nothing about. We wrote it. We swore to it, we know what it means. The other group (Joe-hates-you) on the other hand is an irrational organisation made up of other health workers, infact, basically everyone who works in a hospital. From accounts department to cleaners and other aggrieved non-doctor health workers, whose sole aim is to frustrate the health sector There is the DA, a powerful office open to every one and in most hospitals, if not all, has never been smelt by a doctor. How can someone who is not a doctor be fighting for chief medical director. So the accounts department in a police station should start fighting for Inspector general, cos they work with the police? How can nurses start talking about consultancy? They have matrons, CNO's and all what not. Consultancy is a position, not bestowed upon anyone. U go thru a residency program, write exams and become one under a recognised medical post graduate college. And by becoming a consultant, u have the sole responsibility of the patient. Every other person, from the resident doctor to the nurse and orderlies are mere aides. I don't know how to start explaining this because no one would understand. Its like 2moro, assuming when Nigeria was under military rule, civil defence would come out and demand to become president. But when the war starts, u send the soldiers. That u match infront of ur civil defence office DOES NOT make u a military combatant. And if the same benefits given to these soldiers are given to the boy scouts, every one would become a boy scout. Medical doctors were not selected. Its open to everyone. If u want to be a consultant or a CMD then u go and study medicine. U dont wake up one morning and decide to convert ur profession to what it is not. U say Nigerians are subjecting their patients to quacks. Who are those quacks? Are they not the same people who believe by working inside a hospital they've become doctors? Thats exactly what Joy-hates-you (JOHESU) is doing. The federal govt acted like they did during the fuel subsidy, kidnap, bombings and all their plain acts of ignorance. And the medical profession has just had enough of the stupidity. The Chief medical director office is the BIRTHRIGHT of medical doctors as much as being president of Nigeria is the birthright of a nigerian citizen. U cant come from ghana, live here for 30yrs and demand to be president. There is a medical salary structure worked out based on relativity. No doctor has ever fought the govt based on how much they chose to pay other health workers. But relativity keeps it sane. Without the cleaners in a hospital, it wont function. So therefore, they should strike till they are paid higher than the graduate workers? because they are equally important? Keep salary structure relative, keep qualified people in their due offices and provide an enabling working environment. I dont think thats an irrational thing to fight for. And saying NMA is envious is only laughable. Envious of who if I may ask? Of the nurse? Are u serious for real? JOHESU members can blog all they want and seek cheap sympathy for as long as they want. The fact still remains that the truth is the truth. I can't chose to become a doctor and 2moro start complaining about Mikel Obi's salary. If I wanted, I could have become a footballer. I urge Nigerians to understand that this strike, much as it affects them, is not directed towards them. ASUU strikes over salary, colleges of education and polytechnics are on strike over money. No one has called them evil. We strike over common sense and people start ranting. There are laws. In Nigeria, u cannot become president without at least an SSCE. If u chose not to go to secondary school, then thats ur problem. U chose ur profession, or u failed to meet the standards of the one u chose and hence went to another. Which ever way it happened, thru ur own fault or circumstances surrounding u, u dont try to turn an existing system upside down to suit ur selfish needs from wat u imagined a particular profession gains financially , at the expense of quality, efficiency and common sense.".............SO on a final note, since u guys "claim" to be consultants, no problem then.....now that we have vacated d hospitals 4 u, then go ahead and "consult".....clerk patients, examine them, order relevant investigations, diagnose them, place them under "expert" management/treatment, perform surgeries as well as other procedures.....GOOD LUCK. |
