CultureRe: Which Nigerian Language Is The Easiest To Learn? by Ifygurl: 8:03pm On Jan 15, 2009
For me it's Igbo. Maybe it's because it's my original language.
PoliticsRe: . by Ifygurl: 7:15pm On Jan 13, 2009
I see people insulting Yaradua and wishing his death in this website.  It makes me wonder, Wetin the man do?
I've read good things about him in Allafrica.com and then when i come to this website, i see people bashing the man.  It makes me wonder The reporters are they incorrect about him.  what did he do? I mean other than taking the election by force, whatelse did he do?  Did he kill people?  There has to be a reason people hate him that much.  A friend of mine said it's because he hired only northerners for his office.  I doubt that.  Anyway i'll be waiting for the answer.

@ the poster
Military Coup?  Military coup would destroy Nigeria. Didn’t we learn from the past 34 years that military coup is a bad decision?  The thing is look at countries in Africa with great democracy such as Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Capo Verde, Madagascar etc.  Hell even Ghana and South Africa.  All this countries people are still living in poverty.  Equatorial Guinea was labeled one of the best countries in Africa, with high GDP and everything and yet the people of that country are living in poverty. In 2008, that country was labeled one of the 50th poorest countries in the world. It makes you wonder, what happened to all their money.  Let’s take South Africa, the country is falling right in our eyes and none of us are seeing it.  High unemployment, high crime, GDP dropping, etc.  Hell, South Africa was ranked 16th in the corruption index in 2006 and in 2008, they magically moved down to 54.  Ghana came out of there military coup in 1993 and since then that country has not improved as much, except for their city Accra.  Hell, I could not even believe a country that trades gold and oil still have to depend on Foreign Aid.  It still amazes me.
Hell, in 2002, Nigeria was ranked the 24th poorest country in the world and Ghana economy was very much higher than ours was.  In 2008, Nigeria did not make the top 50th poorest country.  I was surprised that our economy in 2008 is higher than Ghana. I am still surprised. Till this day, I wonder did UN make a mistake in that. I mean the country have better democracy than ours. In 2002, we couldn't even compete with them, what happened? I am still shocked; I am not going to lie.
All I know African countries with great democracy is proving everyday that Africans really don't know how to take care of their country with that type of government.  Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Ghana, Capo Verde, Madagascar, etc are supposed to have great economy.  I thought that less corrupt and better democracy creates a positive and moving country.  Equatorial Guinea and capo Verde were able to reach it but for some reason in 2008, they both fell.  Ethiopia is always in a war so I doubt that country will ever fix up but their economy did increase in 2007. Ghana receives more money than any African country I know. I mean they trade oil, gold and other natural resources and they collect foreign aid more than any other African countries including countries in war.  They have enough to make that country, one of the richest countries in Africa.  Hell even Egypt and Mali, Both countries had a great potential to become one of the best countries in the World. I mean look at their history and then take a look at those countries, Egypt is suppose to be a developed/high income country but yet it's a developing/middle income country. Mali on the other hand had great philosophers in the past, that country was suppose to be a developed/high income income country and yet it's a fouth world/ the least developed country.
Let’s all just face it, Africa needs prayer or at least recreate another government technique.  Democracy and republic is not working for us, but military coup isn't it. To me, we need to go back to monarch years. Out of all the African history books i've read, i've never read of any African people suffering like we are now-a-days. But i doubt that will ever happen, Africans like following the white man way too much. Don't even lie, we do everything they do and we judge ourselves based on what they are doing. I doubt any of us would actually decide to move back to monarch days.

Anyway Yaradua maybe sick but the man is charging and moving as hard as he can.  All we can do is pray for his health, afterall i heard he goes to some hospital in Abuja everyday.
PoliticsRe: I Hereby Renounce My Nigerian Citizenship by Ifygurl: 6:39pm On Jan 13, 2009
I think the guy is just stupid. Okay, one wetin the man do to help at least a beggar in the streets of Naija. His pissed because no one showed up in his rally. What was the title for his rally? How much did he promote it?
I learned a valuable lesson from my Indian professor yesterday, He said and I quote "Don't blame others for your problems, blame yourself". The guy is yelling and screaming that no one showed up in his rally, he should ask himself, how many time did I promote my rally? what was my rally’s topic and what are people’s reaction to it? He should ask himself that.
Secondly, what has he done at least for Nigeria?
Okay, let us go to Anambra. A businessman from Anambra donated enough money to fix the roads in Anambra. I have not seen it yet but my mother did, she traveled to Nigeria last year (2008) and according to her Anambra roads were clean and fixed
If the Anambra businessman decided to denounce his citizenship, then at least we would have known he did something to benefit Nigeria.
The poster seems to be worried about living in Poverty. I've been to many countries and I’ve met a lot of Nigerians in those countries, I’ve never seen a Nigeria in any country including the one I’m staying in (America) that would stand up and say "I live like a rich man in this borrowed country". I have seen a lot of Nigerians in America and in Britain complaining on how much they work, just so they can make enough for their family. Does the poster actually think if he leaves Nigeria and migrates to another country then everything is peachy? Does he actually think life isn’t hard in other countries?
One thing I learnt while living in America is the community tries to fix there self up even if the government refuses to fix them. I have seen people start charities to pick up trash on the street or burning those trashes. Hell, my high school ROTC class was involved with one; it is called "Adopt a Spot".
I've seen many Nigerians complaining about the trash on the street of Naija and it makes me wonder how many of those Nigerians that I’ve complained had started a charities just to keep the streets clean, either by burning the trash or picking one up.
Let’s take another Naija state for example.
Calabar was labeled the cleanest city in Naija and one of the cleanest in Africa. While reading the article I saw pictures of old women sweeping the streets of Calabar with regular broom. It seems the citizens of Calabar are not waiting for the government to take care of the city, they decided to do it their damn self.
When I visited Naija in 2004, I remembered in Enugu early in the morning, people that are going to work would actually stop and set the trash lying around on fire. I remembered the smell, it stuck but it helped keep the street clean.
Anytime I see a Nigerian complain, the first thing I think about is what has he/she done to improve living in Nigeria.

Anyway, like someone said before, the poster has every right to his opinion. I doubt any of us would miss him. I know I wouldn't.

Bye Bye to the person that renounces his Nigerian citienship.
Abeg oga wetin he do 4 naija?

If the man was someone important like Wole Soyinka, Phillip Eweawgali or Chinua Achebe then that would have meant something.
I doubt any of us would even remember him by next month, talkless next year.

Anyway Bye Bye. Hope he have a wonderful life in whatever country he resides in.

Ify where you de? everywhere I see your comments it's always not biased maybe one. Nna babe I don taya for my Igbo brothers ooo. Why be say na only some Igbos abroad de yan like this? undecided most of my friends weh be Igbo just de so proud and and feel so blessed to be black. We even get group for high school back then weh be Nubia kings. I can't believe some I've met from brooklyn to Toronto. them just de yan say them be Biafran not Nigeria and how them be the chosen ones that have been maltreated by Yorubas and Hausas. Making my Yoruba yansh look bad in front of our African American and Jamaican friends sad. And I no sabi argue cause I was born like 20yrs after Biafra so I no sabi wetin happen.
I don't understand why?  I love my people but all this is starting to give me a headache. The thing pissing me off is that Africa is in a mess because many African tribes/nation would rather claim some foreign country than their own.  Take Sudan for example.
Hell even Fulani.  All the fulani's i've met including my grandfather would rather claim Egypt or Saudi Arabia as their original homeland rather than their own.  Tufia. Me, i'm Igbo from Nigeria. I don't know where my ancestors came from but right now we are in Nigeria and that's where i'll claim my ancestors came from.
N-way, when was i biased at?

@ poster

You don't need to travel far to Ghana to realize that everything is organized. Simply cross the Nigerian border by foot into the Republic of Benin and It's a whole new world entirely.
Have you been to ghana?

I guess i would agree that Ghanaian election is  way more organized than Nigeria.  everyother thing isn't.
I had to go to Kumasi during fall break with a friend.  Hell i was surprised how different Kumasi is to Accra.  I still like the country but people really need to travel to those countries before talking.
When i went to Accra in 2007, i loved Accra, beautiful but
Kumasi, God i hated that place.  Kumasi sucks, i urge everyone to visit Accra if your ever planning to visit Ghana.
TravelRe: Nigeria Should Follow Ghana's And Brazil's Path. by Ifygurl: 11:39pm On Jan 10, 2009
I used to think Ghana had more stable economy than Nigeria. That's because i've read alot of comments by Nigerians saying that.
Anyway, Some ghanaian pissed me off so i decided to research about that country, i ended finding out that Ghana do not have better economy than Nigeria. According to UN, in 2002 they did but in 2008, our economy passed theirs. I also read that country use more Foreign aid than any other African country.

N-way @ poster
We have overpopulation, etc. Do you actually think we need more people in Nigeria. I heardthe AA's going to Ghana, ends up living in that country. Abeg, we have other African livingin Nigeria. We have overpopulation, etc. N-way, ifthey fix the tourism in Nigeria, then that's Good.

CrimeInternet Dating Scam by Ifygurl(op): 10:39am On Jan 04, 2009
Just like any other 419 scam, i used to believe that Nigeria does it the most but according to this article

"Internet Dating Scams are on the rise throughout West Africa, with Ghana gaining unfortunate notoriety as one of source countries for this crime"

http://www.ghana-pedia.org/org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=47

Why is it that Nigeria is blamed the most if the scam is most done in Ghana?

Anyway, what it’s new. A friend of mine was duped out of $900. I told her the shit was a scam but she did not believe me, after that happened, she started yelling and saying that a Nigerian swindled her. I'm not going to lie, I actually thought the guy really was a Nigerian; his story was talking about Lagos. Anyway, she told the cops about the scam and when they traced the e-mail; they found out that the guy wasn’t even in Africa but in Michigan. According to my friend, the guy wasn’t a Nigerian as he claimed the guy came from Togo.

Anyway, that's just the thing. I know fraud is high in Nigeria but why are we blamed for what other Africans do sometimes.
I'm not going to lie, I'm a Nigerian and I still believed the guy that scammed my friend was a Nigerian. If it was not for the cops, I doubt I would ever thought the guy was from Togo.
CultureRe: Why Aren't There Any Successful Black Nations In The World? by Ifygurl: 5:25am On Jan 04, 2009
I don't know why.

I know according to UN, these are the top 50 poorest countries in the world in 2007

Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kiribati, Laos, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, Samoa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Sudan, East Timor, Togo, Tuvalu, Uganda, Tanzania, Vanuatu, Yemen, Zambia.

Notice how many are black nations.

It's sad. Corruption is one of the main reason behind it and also our ability to stand with another rather than ourselves.
