PoliticsRe: I'm Feeling Sorry For Buhari by IG: 6:24am On Apr 11, 2011
abibio2001:
I dey laff o. Where did u people learn your Naija politics fromhuh I would repeat it again and again,

Those places in the North where PDP won, did they field an Ijawman?? or a Christian?? The National assembly elections in the North was a Northern Muslim against another Northern Muslim. If you think the Average almajiri in the North would vote an Ijaw Christian over his fellow Northern Muslim, then you must be thinking with your spinal cord. Its just like thinking an average Christian Niger deltan or his Christian Ibo brother would vote Buhari over GEJ. Ethnicity/Religion are major determinants in Naija politics.
Well said.
I think PDP supporters are celebrating too early. You should know that even in PDP rallies in the North, when Jonathan shouts Nigeria!!!, the response is always "Sai Buhari!!!". In many places PDP fielded exceptionally popular candidates like Farouk Lawal or Muhammad Ali Ndume. The question to be asked is whether PDP has an exceptionally popular presidential candidate. Let's wait till sarturday.
PoliticsRe: Pdp Routs Buhari. by IG: 6:14am On Apr 11, 2011
I think the topic shoukd be PDP routes CPC. Think of it, for example when you ask people of southern Borno why they voted for PDP, they tell you that they voted fir Muhammad Ali Ndume who just happened to be running on the PDP platform. I believe next saturday most people will vote for Buhari and not the CPC. In the Borno governorship race, people are all ready to vote for Mohammed Goni who is also running on the PDP platform. The point is that, it's too early to predict PDP victory in the presidential polls giving that in places like Kano even PDP candidates identify themselves with Buhari and some even have pictures alongside Buhari's picture on their campaign posters.

Correct. But the CPC's region has more voters than the rest of the regions combined. I think PDP was a national party but not anymore.
PoliticsPdp Is Dying While Cpc Is Growing In The North-east by IG(op): 12:53pm On Apr 10, 2011
Based on the election results announced at polling units across the North-East, PDP only lead in places where they have exceptionally popular candidates like Hon. Ali Ndume in Borno South senatorial zone. In Borno Central it's CPC all the way. I heard that in Bauchi town, PDP did not lead in a single polling unit whereas CPC leads with a wide margin in all the polling units. In Gombe state, the CPC lead is even greater whereas PDP is losing everywhere. In Yobe, it's ANPP that seems to be taking the day while Adamawa is basically shared between ACN and LP. I have not gotten any news about Taraba yet.

This trend falsifies the claim by PDP supporters that the North-East is a PDP territory.

There were two bomb blast in Maiduguri, one at a polling unit and another at a collation center. There are also reports of a fire incident at the Maiduguri International Hotel. But all that did not weaken the resolve of the masses to cast and protect their votes. The people of Borno Central have overwhelmingly denied the state governor the senatorial seat of that zone. There are polling units in my area where the governor's ANPP got 25 votes in contrast with CPC's 223 and PDP's 158. In other polling units, the governor gets as low as 5 votes where CPC got 234. There are also some neighbourhoods in Maiduguri where the governors party didn't get a single vote.

I think the idea of staying back to protect your votes is working as far as the North-East is concerned.

Amazing that Buhari and Bakare with their banner of honesty and integrity will do this to hardworking Nigerian youth. Disgusting really.
They may have a case there but I am worried about some things.

1-The domain name "buharistoleouridea.com" is registered today the 31st of march 2011.
2-It will sound more genuine (at least to me) if it is cpcstoleouridea.com.

I am not reaching conclusions here but there is every possibility that this is a political move.  It will be nice if bluelabs have tried to prove on the site that they actually own the intellectual property to the song just like they did to the CPC campaign team.

It is funny how time bleaks-out history. I have read some of the OP's links and they contain useful information. However, it is incorrect to say that Yoruba's descended from Mecca, as the popular myth says. If black people descended from that region at all it would have been far back from the time of Noah.
I am happy you took time to read some of the links. One thing you need to know is that as late as the 1800s it is considered very rare to see a white Arab.
Generally Arabs are classified into 3 main types and only one of those types represent the white Arabs of today. Interestingly they are called Arab-al-Musta'riba meaning "The Arabized Arabs". That tells you that they were originally non-Arabs.

From the available literature and authorities, historians have broadly divided Arabs into three classes according to their different great ancestors. They are:

The original Black Arabs who were supposedly punished by destruction and deluge because, as legend has it in the book of Quran, they disobeyed their Prophets and flouted God’s instructions; they were: Ad, Thamud, Tasam, Jadeis, Imru.

The classical Black Arabs, who are believed to have descended from Yaarub ibn Yashjub ibn Ghatan and thus called Ghataniyun. They had lived in the Yemen; they included a number of tribes and sub-tribes, two of which became historically prominent viz., Himyar and Kahlan (al’arab al’ariba).

The Arabized Arabs: These tribes immigrated into Arabia from different sections of central Asia. Many of them intermarried with the desert dwelling nomadic blemmyes – the Bejas (original Bedouin Arabs) and the Somali, Kenyan and Ethiopian tribes of Africa. Their mix -blood children who adopted a mingled form of their parents cultures are known as the Arabized Arabs (al ‘arab al musta ‘riba).

Listen to what a certain past historian said in his book.

1872 – “Mr. Baldwin draws a marked distinction between the modern Mahomedan Semitic population of Arabia and their great Cushite, Hamite, or Ethiopian predecessors. The former, he says, ‘are comparatively modern in Arabia,’ they have ‘appropriated the reputation of the old race,’ and have unduly occupied the chief attention of modern scholars.” Traditions Superstitions and Folklore, Charles Hardwick , Manchester A. Ireland and Company, 1872

Despite .NET being my first option in most software projects, I think ASP.NET just cannot compete with PHP. How do you expect me to compile a web project each time I run it in the development process? Beside, it's almost impossible to host ASP/ASP.NET on Linux servers. So going for ASP.NET to me is like buying a superb car that cannot be driven on highways.

@Eze_Uche, you didn't even visit the links I gave you. I agree with you that the original human beings are from Africa. But migration of human beings is a continuous thing and doesn't have to be in one direction.

Ancient Arabs describe themselves as Black. Listen to what some of them said

Kinky Hair is the kind of hair mist Arabs have
Ibn Mandour

Shuraik El-Qadi said there are seven things which are odd. Amongst the seven things was "A fair skinned Arab".
He also said that
A Fair Skinned Arab is something inconcievable or unthinkable

This is from a book "The Unknown Arabs: Clear And Definitive Proof Of The Dark Complexion Of The Original Arabs And The Arab Origin Of The So-Called African Americans" by Tariq Berry pages 122-123

The Yoruba Tribe, with it's many branches such as the Oyo, Egba, Egbado, Ijebu, Ekiti, Ondo, Akoko, Ikale, Ijesha, Yagba, Jumu, Aworo, Ife, Aja and Mahi is an Arab tribe that entered the area called Africa from Arabia many years ago. Some say they are from Mecca and from the tribe of Quraish. Others say that they descended from Ya'rub the son of Qahtan from Yemen; hence the name Yoruba.

Frank Willet says; "Clapperton has recorded Sultan Bello's account of the Arabian origin of the Yoruba.",

, The Encyclopedia Britannica says "Another important linguistic group consist of the Yoruba-speaking peoples who, like the Hausa and Fulani, have ancient connection with the Middle East"
If you are still wondering why the Yorubas are black and the Arabs light skinned, then you need to learn of the skin color of the original Arabs.

All the GEJ supporters here surprise me. They like to believe that people will vote for GEJ. Jonathan was in Maiduguri before Buhari, he couldn't gather 1/4 of the crowd that came for BB's rally. People didn't care that Goodluck/Sambo were in town. The only people you see lining the streets were policemen. But when BB came this sunday, it took them two hours from the airport to the Ramat Square (Venue of the rally) because of the crowd of supporters. Schools along the road to the venue were unable to control their students from coming out to join the crowds. Some schools have locked their gates but the students climbed the fence and waved at the convoy.

For those who say people came out on orders of the district heads, I only shake my head and laugh. The traditional rulers are with the state governor who is an ANPP member hell bent on seeing that BB rally flopped.

The spirit of the day wasn't that of a political rally but a revolution.
ComputersThe Black Man That May Have Invented The Pc by IG(op): 12:08am On Mar 07, 2011
As a software developer, I've always wondered why there are almost no famous black people in computer and ICT field. Was it that black people were never interested in that field or were they denied opportunities during the early days of the computers.
Actually none of the above was the case. Actually some black people have made their mark in the IT field but are just never celebrated.

One very good example is Mark Dean, a vice president at IBM. Mark Dean literally invented the personal computer as we know it. He is the architect of the personal computer and holds three of the the original nine patents that all PCs are based upon.

Without Dean's work, people like Bill Gates and Michael Dell will never be where they are today. But yet, the 20th anniversary of the personal computer was celebrated without anybody mentioning his name.

Dr Mark Dean later made history again by leading the team that created the first 1-gigahertz processor chip.

Dr Dean made my past assumption that black people never participated in the computer revolution wrong. In fact it is not wrong to say that he brought about the revolution itself.

I don't know if you mean using HTML/javascript, because am pretty sure that with Silverlight 4 you can access your web camera, printer and play game online with game controller (while running in full trust). Even the coming HTML 5 will let you do some of those as well.
@Syma, my original post was made back in 2007. That's ages ago in the IT world. A lot have changed from 2007 to 2011. But think of it, even if you use Silverlight or Flash, your users' browsers don't support them out of the box. They each need to install plug-ins to use peripheral devices. I am not sure but I think HTML5 will change that all.

Depends on who's paying the bills.

SAP is still web-based and millions are still paid to access it.
Basecamp is a milliondollar app and is web-based.
peoplesoft applications are web-based and is also a million dollar app.
finacle (used by many nigerian banks) is web-based and also million-dollar app.
Jira atlassian,
Microsoft sharepoint(web based and used by any company worth its salt)

wake and smell the flowers people. If you are not skilled enough to architect a proper web application say so.

Just say you are content with writing applications for clinics and schools and not interested in going after the real big spenders in IT worldwide (the banks, energy, telecoms and transport companies). Can you actually imagine an airline installing applications all over the place instead of running a centralized website? makes little sense(no offense intended. sorry).
@Kodewrita, is that then a proof that web apps are replacing standalone apps. Why point at very big companies and ignoring the mass market.

Their servers are hosted in Data centers outside Nigeria so you won't have a problem due to power disruptions.

Yes you can, and somebody else can charge 15K. It is up to the client to make a choice. But I am not going to take away your rights to charge.
Please let us understand what open source software represent. OSS do not necessarily have to free.

RedHat charges money for their enterprise Linux distribution despite GNU/Linux being open source. They are only exercising their rights to charge money for the software. People buy their products because they have proven that it is worth buying. The same goes for the web developer in question, she can charge 180k if she can prove it is worth it.

come on my friend dont be so silly. She does not have any right to charge at that rate. If you think she really needs to charge at that save then i need you to answer the following questions.
1. IS SHE INSTALLING a MySQL database into the server?
2. Is she going to use the so called GpL LICENSED MYSQL or an Oracle.
3. What kind of make is her MySql that cost so much.
4. Is she going to work on the Sql.
You might think that 180k is outrageous for MySQL that comes as part of a hosting plan, but that doesn't take away her rights to charge for that amount. If you think it's unreasonable then simply go get a different developer. It's an open market out there. Besides just because somebody uses open source tools to develop a solution for you doesn't mean that person shouldn't charge for it. That is why the license made it clear that you can charge for it.

Even after all these explanations, we still get this argument!!!
Waoooooooooooo MySql comes FREE with your webhost, and if your webhost charges you for it, then change HOSt period.

All these "Experts" should not start shelling wrong info around.

I just think that if the "Open Source" guys were Nigerians, no one would ever get anything (HELP Included) free.

@OP Forum Software like SMF, phpbb3 etc are FREE Open Source with Great Community to answer all your queries and even help you out in case of problems with modification of your forums. and even security of your forum. All you have to do is either research more on forum software or pay a "Competent" developer to do the job for you.

BUT NEVER pay anyone that charges you separately for a component that comes with your MAIN package.

Do a googling of most things you want 2 learn.
I still maintain that she has the right to charge 180K for MySQL database. It doesn't matter if it comes free with the webhosting plan. That is why I explained that the GPL open source license allows you to either charge for the software covered or give it out for free. She chose to charge for it and the webhost chose to give it out for free. Considering the fact that MySQL comes as part of the hosting package, it is not entirely free but is charged as part of the hosting fee.

@OP MySQL is a relational database management system (RDBMS). RDBMS is a software that allows you to store data in a structured manner and allows for efficient search/retrival, updating and insertion of records. And Yes you need a database to get the site running.
WebmastersRe: What Does Mysql Database Means? by IG: 4:43pm On Oct 24, 2010
I think there is nothing wrong for charging 180K for MySql. If we consider that MySql is not always free but operate on a dual license. One non-free license for commercial use and GPL for non-commercial use. Even if she use the free license (GPL), the GPL license allows you to charge money for the any software covered by the license. You only have to transfer all the rights you have under the GPL to the purchaser i.e the purchaser can either sell it or give it out for free.

Nobody forced me to do anything else with the right. But at some point during my primary education, there was an attempt to force me write with my right hand but my parents intervened. I believe that attempt now has a lasting effect on me cos I still despise school. PhysicsQED:
IG, are there any books, written by any professional scholars, or any more comprehensive sources about the black semites of the middles east, rather than just a blog/website? I've long been interested in the stories I had read about the original inhabitants of many parts of the middle east being blacks, but have not found much information to validate them.
You can start from Tariq Berry's book; "The Unknown Arabs". I gave a link to his site and blog because all his claims are backed by references.
The problem with working on such topics is that the works hardly ever  get published. You see, we live in a racist world and proving anything against conventional wisdom either gets you shut off or even eliminated. For example G. M. James got killed after his work "The Stolen Legacy" which proves  the black origin of Greek civilization. And when Ivan Van Sertima proved that black people were in America long before Columbus, his works were banned from publishing in Journals. So he and some other black intellectuals started the Journal of African Civilizations.

The last time I checked Amazon.com for Tariq Berry's book, it was out of stock.

The website for the Journal Of African Civilization can be found at http://www.journalofafricancivilizations.com/

The following is an article on black Arabs which you may find useful

I believe many Arabs so much hate black people because just like any other racist group they are Afraid of the day black people will rediscover their worth and stop feeling inferior to other races. But their biggest fear might be the fact that one day the world will discover that the purest and noblest Arabs may be Black skinned like us. A few quotations about the pure black Arabs;

"I am Miskeen, for those who know me. My color is dark, the color of the Arabs."

-Miskeen Al Darimi Arab poet of the 7th century AD
"Lank hair is the kind of hair that most non-Arab Persians and Romans have while kinky hair is the kind of hair that most Arabs have"
-Ibn Mandour 13th century AD, From the book "Lisan-Al-Arab"
And you should know that Lisan-Al-Arab is the most authoritative book on the Arabic language.

You can get more of such information from Tariq Berry's book "The Unknown Arabs"

cap28:
, some quotations about black africans from some great arab minds such as  Ibn Khaldun, Ibn Sena and Osama Bin Laden:

Ibn Khaldun sees the blacks as “characterized by levity and excitability and great emotionalism” and [says] that “they are everywhere described as s.tu.pid” . . .

al-Dimashqi had the following to say: “The Equator is inhabited by communities of blacks who may be numbered among the savage beasts. Their complexion and hair are burnt and they are physically and morally abnormal. Their brains almost boil from the sun's heat.”

Ibn al-Faqih al-Hamadhani follows the same line of reasoning. To him . . . the zanj [black Africans]. . .are “overdone until they are burned so that the child comes out between black, murky, malodorous, stinking, and crinkly-haired, with uneven limbs, deficient minds, and depraved passions” . . .”

Ibn Khaldun (d. 1406CE) added that blacks are “only humans who are closer to dumb animals than to rational beings.” . . .

Even such luminaries as Ibn Sina considered blacks to be “people who are by their very nature slaves.”

“All African women are p.rostitute.s, and the whole race of African men are abeed [slave] stock. Your people are like rats plaguing the earth” –Osama Bin Laden

Darfur should be a lesson to all so called african muslims - when the chips are down the arabs do not regard them as their equals let alone their brothers.  A word is enough for the wise.

http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/articles/chinweizu/arab-colonialism-series-usafrica-the-arab-agenda.html
I think everybody agreed that Arabs are racist, so all those quotations will not come as a surprise. The disagreement here is about Berbers being Arab. Berbers are not Arabs as has been shown before but you keep coming back to the point that Arabs hate black Africans, which is no news to anybody. We've known that for centuries.
What you may not know is that all of those racist Arabs you quoted have never traveled to sub-saharan Africa. They have never seen things for themselves and just like you they only rely on hearsay. Compare their statements with that of Ibn Batutta who has travelled extensively across the world.

"We ,  traveled by sea to the city of Kulwa [Kilwa in East Africa], Most of its people are Zunuj, extremely black, The city of Kulwa is amongst the most beautiful of cities and most elegantly built,  Their uppermost virtue is religion and righteousness and they are Shafi'i in rite."

Ibn Battuta, A.D. 1331
"Among [the Malli blacks'] good qualities is the small amount of injustice amongst them, for of all people they are the furthest from it, "

Ibn Battuta, 14th century
"[The people of Mombasa in East Africa] are a religious people, trustworthy and righteous. Their mosques are made of wood, expertly built."

Ibn Battuta, A.D. 1331
"I met the qadi of Malli,  he is a black, has been on a pilgrimage, and is a noble person with good qualities of character,  I met the interpreter Dugha, a noble black and a leader of theirs,  They performed their duty towards me [as a guest] most perfectly; may God bless and reward them for their good deeds!"

Ibn Battuta, 14th century
I know very much about Arab racism towards black Africans people. What you may not know is that there are black skinned Arabs who actually are the original pure Arabs but the light skinned Arabs dislike them as much as they dislike black Africans. If you have followed the link to Tariq Berry's website which I posted before, you would have gotten a clearer picture of that. I am posting it again here maybe you can get to read it now.

Funny how  you missed out on the fact that the northern sudanese (arab controlled ) have been at war with the south (christian africans ) for over 50 years and are now only agreeing to hold a referendum to decide whether FULL autonomy should be granted to the south.  The referendum is due to take place in January 2011.
And what has that got to do with Darfur ? You are confusing the Darfuris with the Southern Sudanis. You said you read books written by Southern Sudanese and not Darfuris.
