PAGAN 9JA:

YOU ARE MISTAKEN! i know that for a fact because i have lived among the pure Bedouin Arabs for quite a long time and i know their geneology lists and history. The Shuwa are a coalition of Arabic-speakin African tribes (Fura, Fallata, Gurraan , Zaghawa, Nuba, etc.) along with a few African/Arab mixed tribes and Nubians. This does NOT include the Bedu Abbaela Tribes.

The Kanuri are a larger ethnic group that consist of the tribes you named. Just as Hausa is a larger Ethnic group and consists of many sub-tribes.

about al-amin, ive already explained before.

the story of descent of Nigerian groups from the middle-East are ALL myths. there is no written acount in our case. the geneology is all forged after the advent of islam. please dont give me this bullsh!t argument that the entire world was black and Arabs were originally black and Egyptians were originally black and all this sickening bull****. the Turks and Persians never came as far as the Trucial Coast, forget Najd, the Hadhramut and Yemenm, the heartland of Arab Civilization. The turks that too came later.

are you saying these fill-blooded Arab tribesmen are all Imposters? let me remind you that they have a lineage probably even older than yours. you are another racist akata influence creature :

the black Arabs in Arabia today are all of mixed descent with slaves. i saw your useless links. THe first picture itself was a give away. it is of the Sultan of Oman, a slave trader and a descendant of a Zanzibari slave trader (African) and an Arab woman from Muscat. there you go.

PAGAN, About the Shuwa, I tell you they are different from the Zaghawa, Fur, etc. I know this because I'm a Borno man and have visited Chad Republic several times. The latest being last month.
About Al-Amin Elkanemi, as I told you. I'm a Borno man and we are the only part of Nigeria that have more than a thousand years of written history. So I think there is no point of us arguing over that. His name Elkanemi is another way of him saying that he is a Kenumbu man. That is why his deal with the Mai in giving his colony of students to protect the empire has the condition of rewarding him with the leadership of the Kanembu tribe. In the old Borno empire, regions were mostly named after the people occupying it. For example Tibesti was mostly occupied by Toubou, Kanem by Kanembu, Chari by the Garrhie etc.

About those Arabs whose pictures you posted. Yes, many of them are imposters. The same way the whites took over North Africa, they did before in Arabia. The story of slave descent of black Arabs was just a racist twist of history. And many Afrocentrist support that story because it buries the fact that the black Arabs were the ones that started enslaving the whites. Especially Slavs who they call Saqalib. They park their harems with white concubines which led to the children of the elite turning out to be mulatoes and then white over a few generations. The greater majority of white population came with the influx of Persians and then later Turks when the Ottoman Empire ruled over Arabia. This is a fact that most of us try hard not to accept but even the first Europeans that came across Arabs described them to be as Black as Charcoal. There are even European paintings of Arabs that showed them to be the same in looks as Black Africans.

Here are some of the old paintings of Arabs by Europeans. We may not agree on this but I tell you. They are not myths. If we do not stop this tactical encroach on all lands occupied by blacks. One day people will wonder when you tell Nigerians used to be black. No racism here, just the straight truth.

The last one is Umar Mukhtar (Lion of the desert). You can see he is more black than is white.

Culture / Re: 7 Facts About The North by IG: 12:00am On Feb 10, 2013
PAGAN 9JA:

im not toeing towards your point. im just stating facts.

The Shuwa im sorry to say, are not Arabs. they are Arabs i=only in name. They consist of Fura, Zaghawa and other such Chadic-Sahelian groups. in Sudan they are view by Arabs amd Nubians as Africans. THe Darfur war is a clear exam[le of that.
neither do they look Arabic nor are there clothing and customs Arabic, neither are their camel breeds Arabic, save their religion and some borrowed islamic cultures.

KAnembu, KAnuri, MAnga, etc., people are all related and belong to the same Greater Chadic Ehtnic Group. You are generalizing again. Its only so in the North due to thedisruptions casued by the Fulani jihad and its side-effects.

the ancestors of the mughals are of mixed persian, mongol, rajput, and other Indian tribes, arabs, etc. they like the hapsburg rulers of england are of mixed descent and are muslims. The Mughals were never EVER accepted as Indian indigenes and were forever treated with suspicioon and deep-seated distrust as foreigners, though a few mughal rulers tried to change that.

The Hindu Rajahs on the other hand belong to different tribes and were naturally accepted due to their caste and tribal status and ancient history associatd wiith the subcontinent spanning the Pagan days. also many of the Indigenous tribes have their own Chiefs and rulers.

Zaghawa. Guraan, Fur, Sara etc are entirely different from Shuwa Arabs. Shuwa Arabs are Arabs. They are called Baqqara Arabs by the other Arabs because they raise cattle (Baqara) instead of Camels.

Kanuri was initially not a tribe but a national identity used by several ethnic groups like the Badawai, Fadai, Manga, Kanembu etc. The modern day Kanuri language is more or less an evolved form of the Kanembu language. Before the Kanuri dominance, the language spoken in Kanem/Borno is called Teda.

Al-Amin Elkanemi wasn't Arab but a person born of Kanembu father and a mother from the Fezzan region of Libya. And Southern Libya was part of the Kanem-Borno empire

The story of descent of some Nigerian ethnic groups from the middle-east is more than just myths. This is because in some cases some people have written accounts of things like geneaology up till today. An important fact to keep in mind that the migrants from Arabia were not like the white Arabs of today. They were the original dark skinned Arabs of the past before the flooding of Arabia by the Turks and Persians. Many of the remaining black Arabs of today are trying to unearth such buried history and re-establish relationship with their black African brethren.

Two good places to get more information about the original black Arabs are

Culture / Re: Bronu Kings by IG: 11:23pm On Aug 09, 2012
The details of Borno kings is kept in a record called the Diwan. It is a tradition of more than 1500 years. The Diwan contains records of Borno rulers from the early days of migration from the middle east till date. I do not have a copy with me but if you are in Nigeria, I would have directed you to the Kanem-Borno historical and cultural center in Maiduguri. Another similar record to the Diwan is called Girgam. I believe these two keywords will help you in your search.

However the most famous of Borno ancient rulers are Dunama Dabalemi and Idris bin Ali also known as Idris Alooma.

Hope that helps
Culture / Re: Why Do Nigerians Look At White People As Advanced Humans by IG: 4:37pm On Jun 29, 2012
Please let's stop assuming that everything that comes from the west was invented by White people. Some of the most important tools in our lives were black inventions but they simply never get publicity because of the racist media we have. Just consider the following

1- Dr Mark Dean is a black man that invented the mordern PC, read more about him http://www.black-inventor.com/Dr-Mark-Dean.asp
2- The Cellular phone was invented by a black man called Henry Sampson
3- Benjamin Benneker was the first person to build a working clock in continental America, also a black man.
4- Elijah McCoy has 57 different US patents for his inventions.

Other black inventions in modern times include, the lawn mower, spark plug, refrigerators, elevators and the traffic lights.
The first human to build a machine that allows people to fly is a black Arab (Moor) called Ibn Firnas.

So those giving credit for our modern tech driven society to the white man are simply ignorant. Again even in Nigeria, most parts of the North don't really see the white man as superior.
In some parts, they are even considered somewhat uncultured.

NYSC / Re: Not All Nigerians Are Bad: My NYSC Experience by IG: 1:31am On Apr 05, 2012
I initially didn't intend to post on this thread but I am honestly impressed by the positivity displayed. This is a rare thing lately on Nairaland. I'm a Northerner and a Muslim and have served in the South-East. While I haven't had any lost and found issues, I must however state that the people treated me well, especually those in the villages. The truth of the matter is that the average Nigerian is good, it is the difficult position he is being put into that is bringing out the devil in him.
Talking about religious overzealousness, this is where I wish other Nigerians will understand us. The average Northerner, whether Muslim or Christian takes religion very seriously and dont accept the slightest riducule of religion. Some of us may ignorantly go above board when reacting but the bottom line is, please don't ignite a religious issue with a Northerner and he will treat as well as he will treat his own brother.

Politics / Re: Do You Know Of Any Hausa/fulani/kanuri Investment In Igboland? by IG: 6:20pm On Mar 26, 2012
First of all, the poster sounds angry why Northerners don't invest in Igboland. Maybe it's the same reason why many Igbos invest outside Igboland. Land and Market size. The whole of Igboland is not more than the size of two states in the North. That shows how little land is available. Secondly, the population of 16+ million is only a little bit above the population of Kano state alone. Though considerably large, it's not very large a market in the whole Nigerian picture. Additionally, you can do business in the North without the need to pay multiple taxes. For example, there is nothing like settling the youth of an area you are doing business. For many small businesses, you don't even pay taxes. Most importantly, most Northerners are farmers, traders or nomadic cattle rearers. The farmers have no reason to go to Igboland, the traders and cattle rearers don't need to set up structures to do their businesses.
Lastly the Igbos can help boost investors' confidence by not always talking about breaking away from Nigeria.

Digriz:

the poster is right,i just called a friend of mine and confirmed its true.

I didn't call anybody, I'm living in the North. An I tell you it's a lie. What I am trying hard to understand is why somebody will think Northerners will be happy for Ojukwu's death. What are we going to gain from his death? It is culturally wrong across the North to talk bad of the death talkless of celebrating a person's death.

Please guys, find time to take a trip across the Niger maybe it will help you drop some of your prejudices.
Politics / Re: Why Do Kwara Governors Wear That Silly Hausa Cap? by IG: 8:40pm On Nov 28, 2011
@KnowAll, as a Northerner, let me tell you that Northerners have never rejected Illorin people. Illorin has been culturally part of the North for hundreds of years while still remaining Yoruba. The cap you are talking about is not a Hausa cap. It's a cap worn across the North. In fact the best makers of that cap are found in Borno and not in Hausaland.

Another thing you may find difficult to comprehend is that for Muslims, faith brotherhood comes before ethnic brotherhood. Being too ethnocentric is frowned at in Islam. It is considered a sign of ignorance. Logically it is wrong to hate somebody for his ethnicity because he didn't chose which ethnic group to be born into.

Just a little correction for Mr President. The Kano-Azare-Maiduguri road is part of the dualization project of Kano-Maiduguri road. It was started by the Obasanjo administration and work has been continuing since then, though sometimes very slowly.
Politics / Re: Borno State Senator Ali Ndume Is A Boko Haram Sponsor - Spokesman by IG: 10:41am On Nov 23, 2011
And please, if you think this is a Northern plot against GEJ then why did they first strik during 'Yar Adua's time? The bitter truth for the GEJ sympathizers is that sick 'Yar Adua was able to be decisive on the issue but GEJ couldn't. Yes, I know they have adapted a guerilla style of operations but the least GEJ can do is sack Hafiz Ringim and Azazi. Replace them with capable hands maybe real progress can be made. However the general feeling in Maiduguri is that the FG don't really care about us and instead of allowing the SSS to fish out the culprits they sending the military to kill even more innocents in the process.

@Beaf, I am sincerely worried about the way you think. Please read the following article, maybe you can get a better picture. I believe that the PDP is not only involved but they are selling us out to external interests.

Beaf:

Modu Sheriff who started boko haram is an ANPP man (and so was Ndume until some months ago). That totally rubbishes everything you said above.
You people need to look really deep within your souls, because it isn't any political party, but YOU, the everyday people and your born to rule users.

@Beaf, unfortunately I am not going to engage in argument with you over something that is happening in my town while people like you read newspaper reports on it that were written by people living hundreds of kilometers away from the location of the events. It is also important for you to outgrow to "us against them mentality". It baffles me to see that some people think that we will be killing our Imams and traditional leaders simply because we hate GEJ.

I know there is every possibility that you will reply this message with an insult. I don't hate you for that. I only pity you and hope you can reason beyond blind ethnic and sectional loyalties.

The simple fact is that I know the situation on ground and you don't.
Politics / Re: Borno State Senator Ali Ndume Is A Boko Haram Sponsor - Spokesman by IG: 1:40am On Nov 23, 2011
I have said this many times here on Nairaland. Those of us living in Maiduguri know that Boko Haram never attack PDP members. All the targets were either Islamic clerics speaking against them or ANPP politicians. Only recently was a PDP member shot in his house and many people believe that he may be planning to spill some beans before he got eliminated. I will not talk about Ambassador Pindar because he is dead but despite the obvious PDP involvement, nobody expects Ndume to be part of it.

Guys, you should know that Borno and Yobe states have never been with the Federal party at any point in Nigeria's history. When we went for GNPP during NPN's rule in Nigeria, the Maitatsine riots occured. Now PDP is involved because they have failed for once to produce a governor since 1999.

Just last week, a bomb missed the state governors convoy while coming from the airport with supporters celebrating their victory in court against the PDP.

It surprises me that some ethnic bigots are saying that Northerners are in support of Boko Haram. These are people killing us everyday, even the elite are not safe. The younger brother of the Shehu of Borno was assasinated by them. It hurts a lot to be terrorized by Boko Haram, the JTF and also get insulted on-line by people completely ignorant of the matter at hand.
Politics / Re: 2012 Budget: FG Removes Fuel Subsidy & Proposes N4.8tr by IG: 11:03pm On Oct 05, 2011
I am not surprised by this move from GEJ. The truth is he takes instructions from his western masters for everything he does. They asked to run for president and he did. They asked him to appoint Ngozi and he did. Now they are demanding the implementation of the usual IMF policies that will draw us back to the beginning of the SAP days.

But instead of ranting on Nairaland, why not have a coordinated effort of flooding GEJ's page on facebook with protests for a start. Also find a way of publicising the protests. If they persist maybe we can start taking PDP bigwigs hostages until our demands are met.

For God's sake, even countries that do not have oil subsidies petroleum products. Some countries even subsidies food to make sure there are no social unrests. But GEJ in his wisdom is removing subsidy.

It doesn't matter if some people are illegally benefiting from the subsidy, almost everything the government successfully carried out does have people benefiting illegally from it. We've learned to live with it.

And, Congratulations to those of that voted GEJ and not PDP

Crime / Re: Fulani Herdsmen And Hausa Traders Clash At Golbin Boka by IG: 2:01pm On Sep 21, 2011
What is all this noise about the center not holding anymore? Anybody that knows even a little about Hausas and Fulanis knows that the two groups are distinct and not very fond of each other. The Fulanis being nomads almost always clash with the Hausas who are generally farmers or traders. This has been happening long before Nigeria.

And I always say that there is nothing like Hausa-Fulani. That is a term created by the Southern press. If you are Fulani you know it, if you are Hausa you know it, there is nothing in between. As usual I am disappointed by Nairalanders who are happy that people are fighting and killing themselves. A few posts later, they will claim they are educated unlike the Almajiris, but surprisingly they don't prove to be better.

Just for the record, I hate to see different groups in Nigeria fighting. Whether it's Ijaw vs Itsekiri or Ife vs Modakeke it all boils down to some section of Nigeria retrogressing. And we should all be worried about that.

Politics / Re: Only If Nigerian Democratic Presidents Will Do 1% Of These For Us by IG: 4:47pm On Sep 14, 2011
I wonder why the west is still considering an attack on Iran while Iran is practicing democracy. Was it not America that removed a democratically elected Iranian president in the person of Mosadegh and installed a monarchy? I think the rules are simple. You either let them control your resources or they attack you.

I am not angry about the attacks, because throughout history you find stronger nations bullying weaker ones. The annoying part is the fact that they claim to be carrying out some moral duty like spreading democracy or protecting human rights. What is more annoying is that many people around the buy that.
Politics / Re: Only If Nigerian Democratic Presidents Will Do 1% Of These For Us by IG: 3:51pm On Sep 14, 2011
@Lagosboy, don't waste your strength. Everybody knows the truth but we just chose to turn a blind eye to it. Those points you listed were the very reasons why Ghaddafi is being attacked not because he is a dictator. Don't you wonder why the west is not complaining about the Saudi royal family? This is a family that named the whole country after themselves.

Just before Mubarak was ousted, America's stance on Egypt was that they prefer stability than democracy in Egypt. Now they are the destabilizing the once stable Libya.

Personally, I don't give a damn what the world thinks. Whether we practice democracy, monarchy or any other system, government should function to serve the people. Democracy should be a means to an end and not an end in itself. You will know whether a system will work in the first few years of it's use but we are 12 years into democracy with very little to show for it.

By the way, these are just my views. Nobody is compelled to agree with them.

Am really surprised that somebody hates the gesture because it is from an Aboki. The shocking thing is that if educated people have this type of sentiments what do you expect from Almajiris and Area boys? Let others also do the same or more. The last time I checked, Femi Otedola and Mike Adenuga are not Abokis. Maybe they can augment his efforts.

People have died, while others have their life's reduced to almost nothing and some of us can not for once overcome their ethnic rivalry.

DrummaBoy:

I'll hate to see dis crisis bc a faceoff btw Xtians & muslims. BK r attackn muslims too
We pray GEJ finds God's wisdom

@DrummaBoy, the truth is that the crisis sounds like a Christian vs Muslim thing on on Nairaland and some other websites. Those of us in the middle of red zones know the truth. We have Christians in Borno and some of them have been writing articles trying to let people know the real picture. Boko Haram's primary target has always been Muslims. Christians started falling victims only when they begin to use bombs. But all targeted attacks by Boko Haram were aimed at Muslims especially the clergy. During the 2009 crisis, the sect always give Christians safe passage from the areas they control, but if they catch a Muslims with so much as a simple ID card, they slaughter him.

Muslims feel the heat of this crisis more than anybody because they get attacked by Boko Haram and recently also by the JTF through their scorched earth operations. We log on to the net and also get insulted by people far down South that don't have a faint idea of what is going on.

musiwa.,.:

America is been smart. You see the cry of credit rate and all that is to make the USA dollar fall against other currency. that makes production increase, since the international market will be able to afford america product the more with a weaker dollar. a strong dollar means the world will buy more of china product and not america product. a weaker dollar means the world will buy more america product . and the more the world buy more america product. the more job in america.
I wish I can agree with you but America has largely moved it's production to China. Almost everything coming from American companies are now manufactured for them in China. That means a weaker dollar will make Americans churn out more dollars to buy almost everything, especially those produced in China.

musiwa.,.:

It tell you nigeria economy is in the hand of the wrong people. If China has 1.5 trillion dollar of its reserve in the USA. that should tell you. You should have yours in USA dollar. china currency is not stable. what it means. is that that 10% of nigeria reserve, if it was 3 billion dollar. will become 1 billion dollar in 3 to 4 month. Nigeria may loss $2 billion
Agreed, but most of that 1.5 trillion dollars China has are not really in cash but in form of bonds backed by real assets. So the dollar might crash but the assets wont. But still, I am an engineer not an economist.

Awright @2much, I will consider that. And for your information there are many Nigerians with strong family links to North Africans. So one of Ghaddafi's general's being son of a Yobe woman is no surprise to me. An we are not going to do anything about it. Personally I believe he has done nothing wrong. It is those pale coloured NTC rebels who are not even true Africans that I consider criminals.

Maybe it will help you to know that Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan also has his roots in Nigeria. The day the Europeans sponsor a rebellion against him, he may also consider coming home to Nigeria.
