Herdsmen Attack : Osinbajo Visits Yoruba Monarchs, Reveals Next Move

By Wisdom Nwedene

Following alleged Herdsmen attack in different parts of South West of Nigeria, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday held consultations with the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, as well as other monarchs in Ogun State, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Osinbajo was accompanied to the palace of Ajayi by Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun.

The vice president, who fielded questions from newsmen after the meeting, said the meeting was on the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As you know, there are many significant security concerns all over the country, and there are concerns also in the Southwest.

“So, I am here on the instruction of the president to consult with the traditional ruler, the governor and others on what to do to beef up security and to generally improve the security architecture.

“Of course, you know that Kabiyesi is not just a traditional ruler, but a very important part of the government.

“That is why we are here; to talk to him and agree on few modalities for beefing up security; and ensuring that we are fully conscious of all that is going on, just to be sure that peace and security reigns here and across the country.

“I think for all of us, the most important thing to realise is that we are one Nigeria; we are one country; we need to work together to ensure that it is peaceful, secured and happy for all of us,’’ he said.

He noted that Nigeria had the potential to give its citizens all they desired.

Osinbajo, however, said that some people were working against the interest of the country by trying to cause instability.

He expressed optimism that by God’s grace, Nigeria would overcome all its problems and set itself on the path of peace and prosperity.

Finally, Police Invite Timi, Busola Dakolo Over Alleged R@pe Case

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Nigerian Police have invited popular singer, Timi Dakolo and his wife, Busola, a celebrity photographer, for interrogation over alleged rape case, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that invitation letter, which was delivered at the Lekki residence of the Dakolos around 6pm, may not be unconnected with allegation of rape by Busola against founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.

Busola had alleged Fatoyinbo raped her at 16 in Ilorin while attending his church.

The allegation led to the stepping down of the flamboyant Abuja-based preacher pending conclusion of investigation.

The invitation letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police IGP Special Tactical Squad Force Headquarters, Abuja asked the couple to report for interrogation on Tuesday by 10am.

The couple was accused of “criminal conspiracy, falsehood, mischief and threat to life.”

There was drama during delivery of the invitation letter as the couple raised alarm with the social media awash with alleged invasion of their private residence by police operatives.

Calls to Police spokesman Frank Mba were not answered or returned.

But a police source confided the Police authorities will issue a statement shortly on the matter.

Details soon....

Ruga: Asari Dokubo Blows Hot, Asks Herdsmen To Leave Southern Nigeria

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has issued strong warning to the rampaging Fulani Herdsmen.

Igbere TV reports that Asari also called on South-South and South-Easterners to return home following threats from Coalition of Northern Groups.

Asari made this known while reacting to the threats by Coalition of Northern Groups and the Northern Elders Forum, NEF.

Dokubo spoke during a meeting with leaders of Niger Delta states, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday.

He said, “We, the people of the Niger Delta today, resolved to be part and parcel of the actualization the United States of Biafra.

“What has brought us here today is the dark cloud that is gathering. In 1967, we did not ask for war, war was imposed on us and millions of our people were killed. Our properties were destroyed and so many people until today are carrying the scars of that imposed war.

“Our people have not gone to Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Borno to ask that land be forcefully given to us or that our resources should be used to give us properties in the north.

“But northern organizations and northern individuals have come up to say we must surrender our land to them to create colonies on our land. Are you going to allow that?

“We will not surrender one grain of sand of our sacred land to anybody. We will stand on our land and wait for you to come and carry out your threat and inshallah by the grace of God we will defeat you.

“We have heard that you have called your people to come back home. They should all go, we will assist them to leave (because) this is what we have been looking for all along.

“We call on our people, Igbo, Ibibio, Ikwerre, Ijaw return back home. If anything happens to you and these coward spines on you, you would have yourself to blame. We would not continue to risk our integrity and our pride because of you, return home now.

“We extend a hand of fellowship to our brothers in the middle belt who are suffering the same pain and deprivation as we do. We are with you in your hours of grief and pain and we will stand with you to the end."

President Buhari Reacts As Imam Who Saved 262 Christians In Plateau Receives US Award (Photo)

By Wisdom Nwedene

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to Abubakar Abdullahi, the Imam that risked his life to save some Christians in Jos, Plateau State, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV recalls that Abdullahi hid 262 Christians in his Mosque and home from alleged Fulani herdsmen in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the State during the June 2018 crisis in the state.

The Muslim cleric was honoured with US International Religious Freedom Award on Thursday.

Buhari, in a statement made available to Igbere TV, signed by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said he was “delighted at the International Religious Freedom Award conferred on Imam Abubakar Abdullahi of Nigeria by the U.S. Department of State.”

He added, “Buhari heartily congratulates Imam Abubakar on the well-deserved honour by no less a credible and formidable government agency of the United States”, on behalf of the Federal Government, President

He said “the recognition bestowed on the 83-year old Muslim cleric is towering and befitting for the patriot who risked his own life and that of his family on June 23, 2018 to save the lives of hundreds of Christians, fleeing from attacks by suspected bandits in Yelwan Gidin Akwati, Swei and Nghar villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.”

“Like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said, on May 30, 2019 at the State House Abuja when he received the Imam, the Village Head, Damafulul Mangai; community leaders and a delegation from the US, UK and European Union, the cleric ‘has done so much to promote peace by his singular act than most politicians could do and deserve all the commendation and high honour.’”

Buhari added that he is “therefore, elated that a Nigerian national has written his name in gold in the international arena and his deeds will resonate wherever and whenever there are discussions on religious tolerance, cordiality between Christians and Muslims in the country and around the world.”

The President recommended the sterling virtues of Imam Abdullahi to all clerics, in particular, and Nigerians in general.

BREAKING!!! Ikuku vs Ikpeazu: Abia Assembly Passes 1st Bill, Grants Self Financial Autonomy

By: Wisdom Nwedene, Ogochukwu Isioma

UMUAHIA, ABIA, NIGERIA - The rumoured Political tussle between the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji (Ikuku) seems to be taking a turn for the worse as the State House of Assembly yesterday, hurriedly passed a bill granting financial autonomy to itself, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV correspondent covering proceedings at the Assembly in Umuahia reports that the house within two days, 15th & 16th July, introduced and passed “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission and other Related Matters” personally sponsored by the Speaker.

The Bill has been subsequently forwarded to the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu for executive assent, but as at press time, it’s yet to be seen what Ikpeazu will do.

Calls and text message sent to the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Chief Onyebuchi Ememanka were not replied.

Speaking on the implication of the bill when assented, a media assistant the the Speaker, Promise Uzoma Okoro said:

"When assented, this bill means the Legislature will no longer be dependent on the Executive to run her Assembly since the allocation from the Federal Government goes Direct into the Assembly account"

Prior to this move, there has been widespread rumor of ‘cold war’ between the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and the Assembly speaker, Chinedum Orji, generally known as ‘Ikuku’, over alleged plot by Ikuku’s family to weaken Ikpeazu’s political influence in order to wrestle power from Ikpeazu ahead of 2023.

Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji (Ikuku) is son of former governor of the state, and current senator representing Abia central senatorial zone, Senator T. A. Orji.

Within few days after his election as Speaker of the 7the Assembly, ‘Ikuku’ has set up several committees probing Ikpeazu’s appointees, Ministries, Agencies and parastatals of the Abia state government.

Before the current move for financial autonomy, Igbere TV reports that the House of Assembly had on June 11 slammed Abia state Government over what it termed ‘Environmental Decay’ in Aba and Umuahia under Ikpeazu’s administration and subsequently summoned the General Manager of the State Environmental Protection Agency ASEPA to appear before it within 24 hours.

The summon followed a motion raised by member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike during plenary on alleged poor waste management in Umuahia and Aba by the agency.

Supporting the motion, member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Uzosike said the agency had been generating much revenue for the state government but hadn't done “the needful.”

But some members of the State Assembly disagreed with the House, alleging that the Speaker plan on using the agency to settle “scores” with the state government.

A lawmaker of the Abia Assembly, who craved anonymity, said that the speaker is believed to have governorship ambition in 2023.

“Mr. Speaker has a personal interest in this issue. From what we have observed so far, it's not just about the said refuse but some personal issues with the governor.

“I think the issue started right from when he declared intentions to contest the Speakership position.”

On his part, a lawmaker from Abia Central, said his colleagues from the said Aba Constituency refused to contribute to the motion when it was brought to the House because they are also aware of the issues.

“You see, when my colleague raised the motion and made mention of Aba, our colleagues from the zone never contributed to it because they too are aware of the politics they are trying to play.”

He alleged that lawmakers from Umuahia had cause to contribute to the motion because they had been ’sorted out' by sponsors of the motion.

Another lawmaker, who did not want his name mentioned, lamented what he described as witch-hunting on the part of the Assembly, saying, “the governor had assured the House, last week, of maximum cooperation and support when he also promised to procure new trucks for the agency.”

“The issue of refuse is not the main thing, I have asked my colleagues not to hide under ‘oversight function’, in fighting the state government.

“Remember we (the House) had passed a bill which permits ASEPA to generate funds for the state government. The House leadership is angry that the agency had not regarded them since the bill was successfully passed.”

Contacted by Igbere TV, an official of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, dismissed the notion that the agency had not lived up to its responsibilities.

He accused the Abia State Assembly of being insincere, alleging that the House leadership had wanted some “favours” from the agency.

“That is not true. You can see things for yourself, I believe you are a journalist and know what is right.

“We know what is going on, at the right time, we all we speak. But I assure you, we will never succumb to their threats and pressures.”

He assured that ASEPA led by Hon. Victor Apugo, would always stand by the people and do what is right, insisting that “the agency has always lived up to its responsibilities.”

Meanwhile, some concerned Abians have cried out condemning the alleged plot by Senator T. Orji’s family to “cripple” Governor Ikpeazu and “take over the running of the state government through the back door”.

Reacting, an Obingwa High Chief, Nkem Nwosu, said he had it on good authority that the Speaker would in the next few weeks and months, move against more appointees of the Abia State government.

He alleged that the move by Ikuku, is to see to the sack of the appointees and influence the appointment of his loyalists.

According to him, “Ikuku wants to sack all Ikpeazu’s loyalists and replace them with his, those who will do his biddings.”

Chief Nwosu added that “the ASEPA General Manager (Victor Apugo), has been penciled as first victim of the legislative onslaught.

Igbere TV will continue to keep a close eye on the development and bring you updates as events unfold.

Not to sound defensive of the Government of Abia State, the Corper is silly and should concentrate on why she is there.....

If she doesn't like there, she should relocate....I know people who served in Nafada, Bassa and some places here in Nigeria, spirits fear to tread....

Some of us served in places where there was no power, no network, no market and no roads. Even at the Orientation Camp, you are advised on how to tone in your displeasures and misgivings.

This kind of statements can even land that Corper in big trouble, in association with her LGI and State Co-ordinator.

If it's the Abia I know, her LGI is already in soup.........

IgbereTV, OUK is not gunning for governorship... So calm down.

And for the Abia State Government, I have no comment, some of us have shouted ourselves hoarse.....amaniro, and co. are more versed and can help me out here.

Nothing concerns OUK with this report. So, Gerra out of here menh

"Plot By Ikuku and Father to Take-Over Abia Govt Through Backdoor ‘ll be Resisted" - Ikonne

By: Emeh James Anyalekwa, Ogochukwu Isioma, Wisdom Nwedene

UMUAHIA - Some stakeholders have continued to react to the alleged rift between the Abia State House of Assembly and the executive led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

There's been media reports that Speaker of the Abia Assembly, Chinedum Orji (Ikuku), and father, T. A. Orji, are warming up to “hijack” the state government, ahead of 2023 guber in the state, which Ikuku is widely believed to be keenly interested.

Adding her voice to Abians who have condemned the said move, Lady Shirley Ikonne, on Friday declared that such ‘sinister’ move by the duo, would be strongly resisted by the people of Abia.

Igbere TV reports that Ikonne is daughter of Eze Isaac Ikonne (Enyi 1 of Aba), paramount ruler of Ngwa, hometown of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

She lamented what she described as witch-hunting on the part of the Speaker, saying that the State Assembly is out to frustrate the executive.

Speaking with Igbere TV, Lady Ikonne decried the number of ministries being probed by the State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Chinedum Orji as Speaker.

Igbere TV gathered that the Abia State Assembly had set up several committees to probe various ministries and agencies under the Ikpeazu led administration.

Just few days ago, the State Assembly summoned the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, in what many alleged is targeted at the state governor.

Ikonne said: “Within few days of his inauguration, Ikuku has practically taken over the running of Abia State government and indirectly instituted probe of the Ikpeazu led administration.

“Over 10 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, are being probed by various committees set up by the Ikuku led State Assembly.”

Speaking further, Lady Ikonne said the Speaker had no moral justification to probe the current administration, over what he (Orji) could not do when he held sway of government.

“What moral justification does he have to probe the present government over things he and his father couldn't do when they were in the helm of affairs?.

“Ikuku was the defacto governor of Abia State between 2011 and 2015 during which civil servants in the state were owed over 12 months salary.

“Talking about environmental decay, his father's administration witnessed worse. Abia State was in the most sorry state in terms of environmental decay”, she added.

Ikonne alleged that the move by the Speaker is aimed towards impeaching the Governor, and assuming the affairs of the state.

“The Ukwa Ngwa see Ikuku’s present undue meddlesomeness in the running of the state, a plot to create unnecessary tension between the Ikpeazu led executive and the legislature, in order to find excuse to impeach the governor on trumped up charges.”

She, however, insisted that such move would be strongly resisted by the people of Abia, particularly those of Ukwa/Ngwa extraction.

On his part, Chief Nkem Nwosu, from Obinwa clan, said he had it on good authority that the Speaker would in the next few weeks and months, move against more appointees of the Abia State government.

He alleged that the move by Ikuku, is to see to the sack of the appointees and influence the appointment of his loyalists.

According to him, “Ikuku wants to sack all Ikpeazu’s loyalists and replace them with his, those who will do his biddings.”

Chief Nwosu added that “the ASEPA General Manager (Victor Apugo), has been penciled as first victim of the legislative onslaught.”

When Igbere TV contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Chief (Sir) Jude Ndukwe, he denied the allegation, describing it as "baseless".

"How can the person say that Ikuku wants to hijack Abia State government through the back door? Are we in military regime? ".

" So my brother, we are not in military regime and I can't react to such allegation," he told our correspondent on telephone, declined to make comment.

Politics / Tribunal Dismisses Apc's Petition Against Ikono Lawmaker by Igboblog: 7:21am On Jul 14, 2019
TRIBUNAL DISMISSES APC'S PETITION AGAINST IKONO LAWMAKER

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting at Metro Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Saturday dismissed Petition No. EPT/AKS/SHA/18/2019 which was filed by the APC and their candidate, Mr. Kenny Inayng Eka against the election of the House of Assembly member for Ikono State Constituency, Mr. Asuquo Nana Udo of the PDP, Igbere TV reports.

The petition was dismissed by the Panel headed by Justice A. W. Akanbi because the APC and its candidate were not diligent in the prosecution of their matter.
The petition was therefore deemed as abandoned in law.

Barr. Godwill Umoh appeared with O. B. Akpan for Hon. Ifiok Udo while Ekemini Udim appeared for the PDP. Ubong Offiong appeared for the APC and Hon. Imaikop Ewang while G. F. Edoho appeared for INEC.

This is one out of the six petitions so far dismissed this week against the APC in the ongoing post election litigation in Akwa Ibom State.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, July 9 July, 2019, four petitions were dismissed, on Wednesday July 10, 2019 apart from the Nsit Ibom State Constituency petition which was dismissed at Metro road, four petitions were also dismissed against the APC at Panel Two sitting at Sanitation Court, off Nkemba Street, Uyo for various reasons, the principal of which is lack of diligent prosecution.

One reason they noted, is the fact that majority of the petitions originated from one law office Victor Iyanam & Co and the law office was bound to be overwhelmed in view of the peculiar nature of election petitions.

The analysts have noted further that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for a single law firm to prosecute as much as 30 petitions with the diligence required in election petition.
It is however still not clear why the APC entrusted all its matters to one law firm in a State where there are hundreds of very competent and sound lawyers.

However, it is common in all most cases that Application for Prehearing were filed after the stipulated time of seven (7) days by law, which robs the Tribunal the jurisdiction to further enlist the petitions.

Politics / Keyamo Tells Atiku What To Expect From Supreme Court by Igboblog: 9:42am On Jul 06, 2019
JUST IN!!!  Keyamo Tells Atiku What To Expect From Supreme Court

The spokesperson of  President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign organization, Festus Keyamo, has told the Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar what to expect from the Supreme Court, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Keyamo accused Atiku of attempting to blackmail the Supreme Court.

Keyamo told Atiku to always expect the Supreme Court to do justice even if heavens fall, while reminding the former Vice President of the court judgement which nullified the All Progressives Congress, APC, elections in Zamfara.

This is following Atiku’s reaction to the Supreme Court judgement on Friday that went in favour of the All Progressives Congress APC, and its governorship candidate in Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola.

Igbere TV recalls  that the Supreme Court, yesterday, dismissed the appeal of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, challenging the declaration of Oyetola as the winner of the Osun State governorship election.

In his reaction, Atiku had said, “I urge the nation’s judiciary to take a pulse of the nation and reflect it. In their hands, God has placed a great responsibility. The duty to ensure that justice is done, irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise, by the powers that be.”

Keyamo, who replied directly to Atiku’s tweet, said, “Your Exellency, with great respect, this comment is beneath you.

“The S/Court administers justice based on law and not on the ‘pulse of the nation’.

“This is a veiled attempt to blackmail the S/Court. The Supreme Court will always do justice ‘even if the heavens fall’. Remember Zamfara?”

"It's Not Over" - Atiku Reacts As Supreme Court Dismisses Adeleke's Appeal

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted after the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Igbere TV had reported that the apex court in a split decision of five to two, the apex court’s panel of seven Justices held that the proceedings and the majority judgment of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal which had declared the PDP as the winner of the poll were a nullity.

Reacting over the outcome today, Atiku in a statement made available to Igbere TV on Friday said the love, acceptance and endorsement that the people of Osun bestowed on both Senator Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party is "not over" and cannot be overlooked.

The statement reads,

"I join with people of goodwill all over Nigeria to say to Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the people of the great state of Osun, that we stand with them in good times and in difficult days."

"The Supreme Court has ruled and because of its judicial finality, the legal case is over. However, the love, acceptance and endorsement that the people of Osun bestowed on both Senator Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party is not over and cannot be overlooked."

"Those who think this is the end of the road for Senator Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun, are greatly mistaken. This is not the end. Not even the beginning of the end. No. Today marks the continued ascendancy of Senator Adeleke and his party in the hearts and minds of his people."

"They had expected that the progress and development that the Adeleke family had consistently brought to Osun will be translated to their governance. That hope is not dead. Only delayed."

"I extend my right hand of brotherhood to Senator Adeleke in all his future endeavours and I assure the good people of the state of Osun that the Peoples Democratic Party remembers their love and acceptance and will never forget to stand by them no matter the situation."

"Finally, I urge the nation’s judiciary to take a pulse of the nation and reflect it. In their hands, God has placed a great responsibility. The duty to ensure that justice is done, irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise, by the powers that be."

BREAKING!!! "Be Ready To Defend Yourselves, Enough Of These Threats" - Ohanaeze Tells Igbos

By Wisdom Nwedene

The president Ohanaeze of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo has asked Ndi Igbo to be ready to defend themselves over Ruga Settlements.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Nwodo said Ohanaeze has no objections to all Igbos in the North returning home so long as all Northerners in the East leave the East and we dismantle the Federal structure imposed on us by the military and return to Autonomous Federating Units.

"I call on all Igbos to be ready to defend themselves. Enough of these threats !"

The statement reads,

"Let Abdul, the Federal Government and others like them take notice that Ohanaeze has no objections to all Igbos in the North returning home so long as all Northerners in the East leave the East and we dismantle the Federal structure imposed on us by the military and return to Autonomous Federating Units."

"My attention has been drawn to a broadcast by Abdul Azeez Suleman, speaking for a coalition of Northern Groups in which he had the audacity to give the Federal Government an ultimatum of 30 days to rescind its decision on the suspension of its RUGA settlements policy. Abdul went further to threaten the expulsion of Southerners resident in the North at the expiration of his dateline if the Federal Government does not rescind its suspension decision."

"This irresponsible, unlawful and provocative outburst reminds me of the quit notice from Northern Youths two years ago."

"Ohanaeze insists that the RUGA policy is an Islamization and a Fulanisation policy. It is a violation of our constitution and Supreme court decisions on the Land Use Act. It's suspension without cancelation leaves the Federal Government still in violation of our laws."

"The threat to evict law abiding Nigerians from their places of abode in Northern Nigeria is treasonable and obviously like the gun trotting herdsmen will go unnoticed by our Federally controlled law enforcement agencies. Let Abdul, the Federal Government and others like them take notice that Ohanaeze has no objections to all Igbos in the North returning home so long as all Northerners in the East leave the East and we dismantle the Federal structure imposed on us by the military and return to Autonomous Federating Units."

"The nepotism exhibited by this Federal Government, her duplicity of standards in law enforcement, her undisguised Fulanisation policy is repugnant to rule of law and good governance. We will no longer tolerate any further threats from these Northern war mongers."

" After all, who should be the aggrieved under the circumstance?  The millipede that has been marched is whimpering, but the person that marched it is complaining that his foot has been soiled. The South that is bearing the yoke of oppression from cattle herders are trying their best to coexist with their aggressors, yet it is the aggressors that are threatening further mayhem. This cannot be."

"I call on all Igbos to be ready to defend themselves. Enough of these threats !"
