Politics / EFCC Secures Freezing Order On Accounts Linked To Ex-gov. Ambode Over Fraud by Igboblog: 7:39pm On Aug 06, 2019
BREAKING!!! EFCC Secures Freezing Order on Accounts Linked to Ex-Gov. Ambode over Alleged N9.9bn Fraud

Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, ordered the freezing of the sum of N9.9bn belonging to the Lagos State government, Igbere TV has learnt.

Igbere TV gathered that the funds are domiciled in First City Monument Bank, FCMB, account number 5617984012; Access Bank account number 0060949275 and Zenith Bank account number 1011691254, respectively.

Justice Chuka Obiozor gave the order, following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The EFCC had prayed the court to freeze the account pending the conclusion of investigation and possible prosecution of Adewale Adesanya, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The applicant, EFCC, in an affidavit deposed to by Kungmi Daniel, an operative of the Commission, stated that there was “a huge inflow of N9,927,714,443.29” from the state accounts into an FCMB bank account opened on September 17, 2018 during the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, and operated by Adesanya.

It was further stated that the schedule of the FCMB account showed how Adesanya and other signatories to the account made fraudulent transfer from the accounts of the Lagos State Government and dissipated the funds housed in the said accounts.

In his submission, counsel to the EFCC, Mohammed Abbas, said "The trend in the account is that the account always witnessed huge inflow from Lagos State Government in the above scheduled accounts managed by the respondent (Adesanya)".

Abbas, therefore, prayed the court to grant an order to temporarily attach and take over the accounts to enable it conclude its investigations.

“There have been concerted efforts and attempts to dissipate the contents of the accounts listed in the schedule to this application.

“Without freezing the nominated accounts and temporarily forfeiting the money to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there is no way the fraud being perpetrated using the scheduled accounts can be stopped,” he further told the court.

Consequently, Justice Obiozor granted the prayers of the counsel to the Commission.

The Judge adjourned further proceedings to September 9, 2019.

Politics / Finally, Presidency Reacts Over The #Revolutionnow Protest Today by Igboblog: 6:49pm On Aug 05, 2019
Finally, Presidency Reacts Over The #RevolutionNow Protest Today

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Presidency has finally reacted over the RevolutionNow protest by the members of "The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria".

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday by Garba Shehu, the Presidency said that today, millions of Nigerians went about their businesses: work, seeking employment, attending schools/colleges and caring for their families.

He said :" By doing so, the millions defended our country’s hard-won democratic rights – by ignoring calls on social media to join a phantom ‘revolution’.

“There were a few hundred persons today who, for their own reasons, decided to act upon the demands of a group calling itself Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, which went on social media to ask everyday Nigerians to overthrow the government they only elected some six months ago.

“The President is humbled by the support – not for himself, or the governing party – but for the democratic values of modern-day Nigeria through the wisdom of those millions of citizens who preferred democracy and decided not to undermine an elected government.

“Today, joining those millions of Nigerians was not only the President and governing party at Federal level, but many state governments from the opposition, trade unions, civil society organisations, media and NGOs with focus on freedom of speech. All have, rightly, united in protecting Nigeria’s young democracy and the rights of all to elect leaders and lawmakers.

“The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’s attempt to incite citizens into a revolution against their own democratic rights and interests has failed – as will all attempts to take away from the people their hard-won rights and freedom to choose who leads their country.’’

What Mandela Said About Sen. Kalu Before He Died (Throwback Photos)

Igbere TV has obtained this rare throwback pictures of Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

During the visit, Mandela described Kalu as a man with great passion for the downtrodden and prophesied that Kalu's love for his people will be celebrated by the entire continent in the nearest future.

The prophecy came to pass on 18th April 2013 when Kalu became the 1st black man after Nelson Mandela to address the British Parliament not as a head of state nor head of government

As at that time, Kalu told members of British parliament that in the 53 years of Nigeria’s history, an Igbo has only been head of state for six months, adding that the Igbo have the least number of states, local governments and get the least allocation and appointments.

Recall that Senator Kalu had recently, described Mandela as his Role Model and Mentor.

“He taught me how to forgive and tolerate people that offended and caused me pains,” kalu said.

Kalu said this while fielding questions from journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja after he delivered a speech on “The Mandela I Know” At the University of Abuja on July 19.

He said the anti-apartheid icon shared with him several experiences he had with people during the anti-apartheid struggle especially when he was jailed in prison.

With this rare pictures of both leaders, it is crystal clear that Kalu maintained and had a great relationship with Mandela when he was alive.

Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation.

Atiku Reacts Over 'Killing & Secret Burial of 1000 Nigerian Soldiers'

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the alleged killing and secret burial of 1000 Nigerian soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Atiku said he read the report by the Wall Street Journal that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the General Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror, with a sense of heartbreak and shock.

Atiku further said that men and women of our armed forces are our first, second and last defence against our domestic and foreign enemies and should be treated with love, respect, dignity and appreciation for the invaluable service they render to Nigeria.

The statement reads in full,

"On The Secret Burial of 1000 Soldiers Killed By Boko Haram/ISWAP: Nigerians Are Entitled to Know The Truth."

"I read the report by the Wall Street Journal that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the General Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror, with a sense of heartbreak and shock."

"Heartbreak for the families and friends of those soldiers who, if the report is true, have lost their loved ones, without being allowed to bury them or even to have any sense of closure as regards their fate."

"Shock, that such a thing could happen under a democracy, such as Nigeria is supposed to be. I shudder to think that the cover-up of such an event of epic proportions can be true."

"The men and women of our armed forces are our first, second and last defence against our domestic and foreign enemies and should be treated with love, respect, dignity and appreciation for the invaluable service they render to Nigeria."

"I cannot fathom that in the space of a year, 1000 of these great patriots were killed and buried secretly without their families being told. I hesitate to believe that deceit on such a grand scale is even possible."

"To ensure that we get to the bottom of this matter, I urge that a Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by a non-partisan and reputable jurist, be inaugurated to investigate the findings of the Wall Street Journal. While this is occurring, I also strongly urge that a panel of inquiry comprising distinguished former military officers be set up to investigate and report to Nigerians the true state of the war on terror and what must be done to ensure Nigeria brings a speedy end to the ongoing insurgency."

"Nigeria must ensure prudent use of finances, so we can redistribute national resources in such a way that ensures that our military and security forces are well armed and well remunerated."

"Even the death of one soldier affects me. But the alleged cover-up of the deaths of one thousand soldiers is a national emergency that should shock all statesmen and leaders of thoughts into action to save Nigeria."

Fuel Crisis : "Give Licences to 'Illegal Refineries', Dangote Can't Do it Alone" - Sen. Kalu Tells FG

Following the perennial fuel crisis currently bedeviling the country and its attendant economic implications, the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has urged the Federal Government to absorb operators of illegal refineries into the system by issuing them with licences to operate, Igbere TV reports.

Speaking at the floor of the senate, Kalu noted that Dangote can't do it alone which is why it is imperative to consider this method in order to curb the fuel crisis ravaging the country.

Igbere TV reports that Kalu insisted that Dangote refinery does not have the capacity to fill the shortage of petroleum products if importation is stopped, maintaining that issuing licenses and giving crude oil at half price to modular refinery owners is the solution.

“All those people stealing and refining our crude oil should be recognized and given licenses. They should give up to one thousand licenses to those boys and give them this oil at the half price to refine and put the inspectorate department of the NNPC to inspect so that we will have surplus with other refineries” he stated.

The Abia North Senator expressed regret that his proposal to former president Olusegun Obasanjo while he was a governor to force Chevron, ExxonMobil, Total and Agip to own a refinery with 80% state and 20% operators’ ownership was not adhered to, adding that the state 80% stake was to be offloaded in the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, Chief Justice of Nigeria, on Wednesday described the nation’s judiciary as one of the best in Africa, Igbere TV reports.

A critical look at the CJN affidavit which is circulating on the social media shows that the CJN said termites destroyed his primary school certificate when his home in Bauchi was invaded in 1998.

The CJN who was sworn-in by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa Abuja, told those making corruption allegation not to bring hollow allegation that they would not be able to substantiate when called upon.

Justice Tanko Mohammed was first sworn-in on January 25 this year as the acting CJN when President Buhari suspended the immediate past CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

He became the 18th CJN at the brief ceremony.

Mohammed, who took over from the immediate past and retired CJN, Walter Onnoghen, was screened and cleared by the Senate last week.

He has been on acting capacity since January, 2019.

“I Would Have Made You Sweat” – Abaribe Tells Akpabio At Ministerial Screening

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, during the Ministerial Screening today said he would have made Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom to sweat.

Igbere TV reports that Abaribe spoke when Akpabio appeared before the senate for screening on Wednesday.

The PDP lawmaker said he would have asked Akpabio tough questions but for the tradition of the senate which allows former lawmakers to “take a bow and go”.

Akpabio represented Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial district between 2015 and 2019. He was minority leader of the PDP caucus before he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the last general election.

“I would have made Godswill sweat… We know that as an uncommon person, you will work very uncommonly to make sure the relation between the chamber and the villa is uncommon,” he said.

Earlier, Akpabio had said as an “uncommon performer”, he would keep rendering “uncommon services” to Nigeria.

Akpabio said some of the roads he built as governor of Akwa Ibom have not had potholes 11 years after they were built.

He also taunted Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, who had told him that they would meet on “the streets of Abuja” during the valedictory session of the senate led by Bukola Saraki.

Melaye had made veiled reference to Akpabio’s loss in the election.

“I will continue to offer uncommon services to Nigeria through the current platform; with integrity, dedication and love. I left office many years ago and on the roads I did, there is not one pothole 11 years after. I rest my case on the CV before you,” he said.

“It is my firm belief that the only way we can touch the lives of the average man in he society is through his hallowed chambers. Nothing really to say than what you already know; I am regarded as uncommon performer in any place I go.”

JUST IN!!! Why US Banned Nigeria Politicians - Atiku Reveals

The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has revealed why the United States of America banned some Nigeria politicians, Igbere TV reports.

According to Atiku, US visa ban on politicians who “sabotaged the electoral process” is a confirmation that the election was marred by irregularities.

Igbere TV recalls that the US announced the visa restriction on Tuesday, but did not disclose the identities of those affected.

Atiku, who spoke through Paul Ibe, his media aide, said the action of the US has vindicated his position that the polls were not credible.

“It seems that day has come. After many months of living in denial, the Buhari regime is now faced with the truth in the form of a US visa ban on politicians who undermined Nigeria’s democracy,” Atiku said.

“Speaking on the ban, the US State Department in a statement by its spokesman, Morgan Ortagus on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, stated that ‘we condemn those whose acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption harmed Nigerians or undermined the democratic process.’

“Speaking further, Mr. Ortagus said, ‘the Secretary of State is imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Nigeria. These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights.’

“The above statement is a vindication of our position that the 2019 elections were ‘undermined’ by the actions of state actors and institutions.

“We also wish to thank the United States of America for standing with the Nigerian people against those whose desire it is to truncate our democracy.”

Atiku is currently challenging Buhari’s victory at the tribunal.

Nigerian Journalist Cries Out After He Was Attacked In US

Nigerian journalist living in Washington Dc, Simon Ateba has cried out after he was attacked in the United States of America, Igbere TV reports.

Ateba who is the founder of Today's News Africa revealed that 2 black guys and a black girl attacked him on P Street between 16th street and 15th street in Washington D.C. at about 9.45pm shortly after he left #districtchurch prayer group.

He said : "2 black guys and a black girl just attacked me on P Street between 16th street and 15th street here in Washington D.C. at about 9.45pm shortly after I left my #districtchurch prayer group."

"The first one hit me on the shoulder and the second one hit me on the head. I was about to retaliate after ensuring they didn't have a gun, when I heard someone behind me say "what's going on Simon? It was a friend of mine Andrew who is white and had just prayed for us a few minutes earlier. So this is the problem I have with racism. Sometimes, you would be attacked by people who look like you and rescue by others who don't look like you. Anyway, I thank God the situation was well handled."

" After I was attacked by two guys who where with a lady, I made a police report. And police told me that minutes after, there was a robbery incident at that area. They gave me a case number and will check the cameras around there. Reporting stuff to the police is the last thing I want to do. Sometimes I don't know why people can be so stupid to hit people in DC because there are cameras everywhere and chances are they may most likely identify you. Why do you want to put yourself in that situation?".

Politics / JUST IN!!! President Buhari Sets Target For Electricity Sector by Igboblog: 9:00pm On Jul 22, 2019
JUST IN!!! President Buhari Sets Target For Electricity Sector

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja challenged stakeholders in the electricity sector to improve supply to Nigerians, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday Garba Shehu, Buhari urged stakeholders to reach 7, 000 megawatts by 2021, and work towards 11, 000 megawatts by 2023, while ensuring better distribution to businesses and homes.

The President, who witnessed an agreement signing ceremony with Siemens AG at the State House, said the priority of his administration remains to buoy the economy, starting with more improved supply of power that will create enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“Our goal is simply to deliver electricity to Nigerian businesses and homes. My challenge to Siemens, our partner investors in the Distribution Companies, the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Electricity Regulator is to work hard to achieve 7,000 megawatts of reliable power supply by 2021 and 11,000 megawatts by 2023 – in phases 1 and 2 respectively.

“After these transmission and distribution system bottlenecks have been fixed, we will seek – in the third and final phase – to drive generation capacity and overall grid capacity to 25,000 megawatts.

“With our strong commitment to the development of Mambilla Hydroelectric and the various solar projects under development across the country, the long-term power generation capacity will ensure adequate energy mix and sustainability in the appropriate balance between urban and rural electrification,’’ he said.

President Buhari told the management team of Siemens led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Joe Kaeser, that electricity remains critical to the development of Nigeria, noting that the country was blessed with significant natural gas, hydro and solar resources for power generation that could be utilized to achieve reliable, affordable and quality electricity supply necessary for economic growth, industrialization and poverty alleviation.

“I recall my meeting in late August, last year, with Chancellor Merkel here in Abuja, when both our Governments committed to future cooperation to support economic growth and development in Nigeria. We were clear that fixing the power sector was a key priority for this administration.

“It was during that event that, CEO of Siemens AG, Mr Joe Kaeser, committed to working with Nigeria to develop a feasible roadmap to modernise our electricity grid with support from the German Government,’’ he added.

The President said previous governments had explored state funded solutions through the National Independent Power Projects, and they also explored the installation of large emergency power projects.

“There was also the partial privatization of the power generation and distribution sectors. These various interventions to solving the electricity problem have yielded an imbalance between the amount of power generated and the amount available for consumers.

“Despite over 13,000 megawatts of power generation capacity, only an average of 4,000 megawatts reliably reaches consumers. Now, we have an excellent opportunity to address this challenge. This Government’s priority was to stabilise the power generation and gas supply sector through the Payment Assurance Facility, which led to a peak power supply of 5,222 MW,’’ he noted.

President Buhari said the constraints remained at the transmission and distribution systems, adding that he had directed a team to ask Siemens and Nigerian stakeholders to first focus on fixing the transmission and distribution infrastructure, especially around economic centres where jobs were created.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG said the company would work hard to improve the electricity situation in Nigeria as the country’s economy will only achieve sustainable development with adequate power supply.

Mr Kaeser said he would personally supervise the “Implementation Agreement for the Nigerian Electrification Road map’’, which also involves the German government.

Politics / Tension As NAFDAC Officials, Policemen Escape Lynching In Onitsha Market by Igboblog: 8:45am On Jul 21, 2019
Tension As NAFDAC Officials, Policemen Escape Lynching In Onitsha Market

There was tension yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra after officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and policemen escaped getting lynched during an enforcement exercise, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the incident happened at Head Bridge Drug Market, Onitsha, to be precise.

NAFDAC made this known in a statement by its Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, that the combined team of officials and policemen had visited the market sequel to credible intelligence obtained from concerned members of the public.

According to the agency, it had received information regarding the connivance of drug counterfeiters from the market and the executive members of the Plumbing Material Market Association Onitsha over the diversion, concealment, and storage of substandard and falsified medical products at the plumbing material market.

However, an attempt to apprehend those found culpable as well as ensure the seizure of the items led to NAFDAC officials getting stoned.

The statement reads,

“Officials of NAFDAC visited the offending warehouse for an immediate evacuation of the substandard and counterfeit products and packaging materials.

“The contingent of NAFDAC officials and police officers were attacked and pelted with stones, bottles, packaged water and plumbing items by a mob under the watch of the executive members of the Plumbing Material Market Association Head Bridge Onitsha.

“However, the NAFDAC team were able to evacuate a limited quantity of the counterfeit Anti-malaria, Antibiotics, Sildenafil Citrate, including Tetanus Toxoid stored in a warehouse with a temperature of over 40oC.”

The agency, which is charged with the mandate of safeguarding the health of Nigerians, noted that storing cold-chain drugs such as vaccines or injections that are supposed to be stored at below 4oC at a temperature as high as 40oC would have damaged the drug and subjected the person that would use it to danger that could result in death.

“Counterfeiting of drugs subjects the population to treatment failure and early death.

“Members of the families of the counterfeiters are included in the population, that is, no one is exempted from the consequences of substandard, falsified and counterfeited medicines. Therefore, protect your family from dangers of falsified medicines by reporting any suspicion of fake medicines to 08001NAFDAC or to the nearest NAFDAC office to you.”
