Radio Biafra Reacts to Murder Allegation by Dokubo Against Kanu

By Wisdom Nwedene

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, via Radio Biafra has reacted to the accusation levelled against its leader by former Niger Delta Militant, Asari Dokubo

Igbere TV had reported that Asari Dokubo claimed that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is responsible for the assassination of popular Nigerian Prophet, Anthony Nwoko.

According to Asari, "Cleric Nwoko was allegedly assassinated by agents of Nnamdi Kanu to silence him because he opposed Nnamdi Kanu's way of camouflaging under the biafra struggle to enrich himself."

Reacting over the allegations, Radio Biafra said Asari is working hard to blackmail IPOB.

According to a statement made available to Igbere TV, IPOB said :

"This is the clip of the contractor working hard to blackmail IPOB. Asari forgot that before he embarks in this kind of blackmail he should prepare himself very well hoping that he is coming to meet the almighty IPOB."

"We meet problems head on, IPOB does not run away from enemies and since Asari has presented himself as an enemy to our collective survival we shall treat him as an enemy."

He looked shocked.

On the Room Service trolley was a cake, drinks and other assorted chops.

JUST IN!!! "Swear With The Qur’an That You Didn’t Rig The Election" - Galadima Blasts Buhari

By Wisdom Nwedene

A former ally to President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged him to swear with the Qur’an that he did not rig the 2019 presidential election.

Buba Galadima who is also the spokesman to the Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also lambasted President Buhari.

Igbere TV reports that Galadima said Atiku won the election but it was allegedly rigged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He described the election as an embarrassment while challenging the president and the APC leaders to swear with the holy books to prove Buhari won.

“The election was a national embarrassment. It was far from being free and fair. Not only that, it was clear to everybody that INEC, the military, and the police all colluded to work for APC,” Galadima said.

“The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar won the presidential election but INEC chose to declare President Muhammadu Buhari the winner. The whole world knows that Atiku defeated Buhari hands down but the election was heavily rigged in Buhari’s favour.

“I boldly challenge Buhari and other APC leaders to swear with the Holy Quran, and the Bible if they were sure that Buhari won that election. If they are sure that Buhari defeated Atiku, Buhari, APC leaders should take up my challenge. I’m throwing this challenge openly, I’m making it public, and I’m waiting for any of them who is bold and sure of himself to take up this challenge.

“INEC was only independent in name during the elections as it surrendered its mandate to the whims and caprices of Buhari and APC. With the way it conducted the election, INEC will enter the Guinness Book of Records as having organised the worst election in Nigeria’s history.”

Galadima further said the conduct of the electoral process is proof that Buhari is not fighting corruption.

He said rigging of elections amounts to corruption, and “APC is a nest of corrupt elements”.

“What all these clearly show again is that Buhari is not fighting corruption. Corruption is not only about stealing money. There are other things that you do that amounts to corruption. Rigging election is another form of corruption,” he said.

“All APC leaders including Buhari, their hands are not clean over these elections. Then if you know that somebody is corrupt and you protect such a person that means that you are also corrupt.”

Politics / 9th NASS : "Legislature & Executive Will Work Harmoniously " - Benkalu by Igboblog: 9:48pm On Apr 16, 2019
9th NASS : "Legislature & Executive Will Work Harmoniously " - BenKalu

The House of Representatives elect for Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has revealed that there is need for the legislative and executive arms of government to work together for the interest of the country in 9th National Assembly.

Speaking with Igbere TV and other journalists after the five days orientation program in Abuja, BenKalu noted that there was no unity between the legislative and the executive in the 8th National Assembly, which had a negative impact on the performance of the government.

According to him, "when you talk about the Inter government relationship which many people have described as 'IGR', it has two arms to it, we have the vertical and  the horizontal. "

" The vertical has to do with how the federal government relates with the states, how the states relate with the local government and how the states relate with one another and when you talk about the horizontal aspect, you talk about the principles of separation of power, how the judiciary and legislative relate to one another ".

" What we run in Nigeria is not a unitary government neither is it a parliamentary, we run a presidential system of government and we also have a multi party system ".

"These are some of the elements that make it very difficult for this Inter relationship to take place."

"But suffix it to say that this Inter dependence is there and it is very important because non of the arms can exercise their function fully in isolation of the other. No government is complete without the whole team working together."

"There is a bit of the judiciary in the legislature and there is a bit of the legislature in the judiciary when they use the Stare decisis, judiciary precedence to make law ".

" Also, there is a bit of the legislature in the executive when the executive presents appropriation bills. You found out that they play the role of each other once in a while."

"In the last assembly, there was an obvious demarcation of 'we are the legislature, we remain the legislature, you are the executive, you remain the executive. You don't call the short for us, we don't call the short for you.' That's what the 9th Assembly wants to eliminate and that's the reason for this kind of lecture we had today ".

Kalu commended the organizers of the program and said the 9th National Assembly will try to work harmoniously with executive arm of the government.

"We have seen the need for all the arms of the government to work together. We have seen the need to collapse our political differences when we arrive at the National Assembly. "

"The face of the National Assembly should not be painted with the colours of the party, it should be painted with the good laws that we want for the development of our nation."

"So, we should not be holding there, the philosophy of our party against our self interest and the interest of the nation. "

"Through inter-relation, you will see people collapsing their interests and also understand why the executive has this particular policy and objective. And the legislature will support the executive to achieve but that doesn't mean that the checks and balances role of the legislature will be thrown into the trash can ".

" It means that we will do our job of dog watching in each of them, the same way that they will be doing to us but doing that harmoniously ".

Kalu also noted that there will be problem once in a while but it should be reconciled so that it will not affect the development of the nation.

By Wisdom Nwedene

A Nigerian philanthropist and former Aba North Chairman, Alex Ikwechegh has visited Abia woman whose fingers were cut by Fulani herdsmen.

Igbere TV reports that the woman, Miss Esther Nmecha, needed N60,000 for treatment and had solicited for help from Nigerians.

To her greatest surprise, Ikwechegh through his foundation visited her today and donated a huge amount of money and offered a job to her in order to take care of her personal needs.

Speaking on behalf of Ikwechegh, the spokesman of the foundation said (Ikwechegh) was dejected when he heard the dastardly act being committed by the rampaging Fulani Herdsmen in Abia State and asked security agents to arrest the perpetrators of the ugly act.

Igbere TV reports that Ikwechegh also paid hospital bills of other patients in the hospital.

In his words,

"We are here because our Chairman, Alex Ikwechegh understands your plight. In fact, he was dejected and devastated when he heard the news and that's why he sent us to donate this money to you ".

"This is not Abia State that we use to know before. We had peace but now with the coming of the Herdsmen, our people now live in fear which ought not to be so ".

" We want peace in our state and hopefully, the security agents will act immediately to stop the nefarious activities of the Herdsmen, " he said.

Narrating her ordeal, the woman said trouble started around 4pm on the fateful day when herdsmen encroached on her business premises along Peoples Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

She said an appeal to the invaders to leave the premises fell on deaf ears as they threatened to kill her.

Nmecha said, “In making real their threat, one of the Fulani herdsmen brought out his machete and targeted to cut my neck.

“It was in an attempt to defend myself that he missed his target and cut off my four fingers.

“I was rushed to the Police Clinic at the Central Police Station, Aba, where they immediately referred me to the Aba General Hospital as a result of the critical nature of my case."

"I thank Ikwechegh for coming to my aid, may God bless him abundantly ".

Other patients in the hospital also thanked Ikwechegh for coming to their aid at this critical time and asked God to bless him.

Buhari To BenKalu: Join Hands With Me As We Uplift The Economic And Social Well-Being Of Nigerians (Photos)

In recognition of Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s outstanding victory at the House of Representatives polls as well as his collaboration with Senator Elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to ensure that the President’s victory in Bende, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a letter of congratulations to the Hon. Member Elect.

In paragraph three of the letter, President Buhari extended a hand to the legislature asking for a partnership to uplift the economic and social well- being of Nigerians.

When asked by Drum Africa, Chief Kalu said, “this is evidence that President Buhari wants to do things differently in the coming administration. The tone of the letter reflects a deliberate attempt of the executive arm to partner with the legislative arm to grow our economy.

“Yes we will support the independence of the legislature but the 9th Assembly is not willing to sacrifice the benefit found in the interdependence between us and the executive.

“The era of acrimony and rancour is over and this we shall achieve while playing an effective dog watching roles on their activities.

“The people of Bende have asked me to accept the President’s hand of partnership for the growth of our nation and I have so accepted and am willing to work closely towards the achievement of all the good objectives of the government.”

Recall that the relationship of the 8th Assembly and the Executive was acrimonious and fraught with mutual distrust, having started on a foundation of allegations of treachery and betrayal. The discord has been fingered as the single major factor that impeded the growth of the nation.

The letter presents a hope that the federal government will be able to shun politics and act harmoniously in the interest of the nation.

Politics / JUST IN!! Nsima Ekere Set To Sell Campaign Ground To Uma Ukpai For N800m by Igboblog: 10:00pm On Apr 08, 2019
JUST IN!! Nsima Ekere Set to Sell Campaign Ground to Uma Ukpai for 800 million naira

They Governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress in the just concluded general elections, Mr. Nsima Ekere has allegedly sold his massive campaign ground along Edet Akpan Avenue to a renowned clergy, Rev. Uma Ukpai.

Igbere TV gathered that the development which has further shrinked the hope and morale of Mr. Ekere’s followers, is to help the APC man fund his tribunal court case.

According to revelations, Ekere went bankrupt after the elections because of massive fraud played on him by the APC elders and selected youths who siphoned dollars meant for his not so many followers for their personal interests and projects.

It is learnt that Nsima out of frustration has resorted to barking up the wrong tree by heeding the advise of moribund and unreverend APC Bishop Josephine Eggar who is noted for false prophesy to sell of the property and raise money for tribunal case pursuance. The governorship candidate who is always a prey to desperate politicians who see him as a jittery and naive politician which they can easily extort money from at will, engaged the services of estate valuers to sell off the campaign ground which had been taken over by grasses.

Information gathered by this reporter contained that the Peoples Democratic Party had placed a bid to the valuers through their lawyers but Ekere to curtail the huge embarrassment of selling the campaign ground to the PDP since he cannot withstand the shame after losing out at the poll, opted to bite the bullet and do business with Evangelist Ukpai at 800 billion naira.

Mr Ekere who was heavily defeated and forced to budge up by the PDP has refused to dig his heels, a source disclosed that the so called APC elders are up to finish him financially and make him go bankrupt by pushing him to court so they could have continuous flow of income through his refusal to accept defeat, congratulate the governor and join hands to build a better Akwa Ibom State for the future of his kids and other Akwa Ibomites.

A church member who begged for annonymity revealed that the church bought the campaign ground to convert it to a parking space. He claimed that the church faced difficulty in parking vehicles each time they have service, stressing that the heavy traffic on Edet Akpan Avenue, will reduce by reason of the church acquisition of the Nsima Ekere campaign ground.

It could be recalled that this same visibly frustrated and sacked former NDDC boss wasted the two- year NDDC slot of Akwa Ibom State in order to become governor of the oil rich state.

Post 2019 Elections: Emerging Power Lords Of Nigeria’s Politics(Photo)

It is crystal clear that 2019 general elections have come and gone.

While some political camps are ecstatic about the results, others are still sulking over the outcome.

In this report, WALE ELEGBEDE writes on some new power brokers that emerged from the polls

The just concluded 2019 general elections have altered the political equations in the country. Some of those who used to hold the ace in terms of power fixing and allotment are currently out in the cold.

The tsunami of uncertainty that pervaded the elections swept them away – stripping them of their influence or in some instance finally getting retired from the turf.

Just like life in itself where there is no vacuum, some sets of new power brokers got inducted and installed at the end of the electioneering process.

Interestingly, these new sets of power brokers whose growing clout featured prominently on the positive outcome of elections in their domains cut across political parties and age grades.

They are found in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and even among the fringe parties. However, many of them are not limited by their party affiliation as they also possess the diplomatic tact to sway fellow politicians and the electorate to their sides.

Expectedly, the arrival of the new power fixers is bound and already producing fresh permutations starting from the National Assembly leadership, cabinet members and of course the 2023 elections.

Given the prominence and attention that power brokers attract, it is hardly surprising that their presence is bound to stir some nervousness especially from their rivals. These new power brokers are here to stay and they will try to stay relevant by invading the territory of their opponents and plundering it.

While concerns about the possible overbearing acts of the new power brokers are genuine, it is apt to amplify that the people can keep them in check through occasional appraisal and scrutiny.

While it may be arduous spelling out the names of all the new power brokers, the writer still attempted to pick out some new political fixers who may influence the polity in the next few years.

Orji Kalu

Regarded as a man that sees possibility in every task he lays his hands on, former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has once again brought to bear his towering influence that has made him tick since the return of democracy in 1999.

With his party, the APC, Kalu won the Abia North Senatorial seat and he is poised to represent the people of the district who see him as the only one who can give them adequate and quality representation based on his distinctive pedigree while serving as governor of the state.

Kalu, candidate of the APC, polled 30,203 votes to defeat Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, his closest rival and candidate of the PDP, who garnered 20,801 votes. Ohuabunwa is the current occupant of the seat.

Over the years, “OUK”, as he is fondly called by his admirers, has built a large reservoir of knowledge and bridges across the country. For him, no day passed away, without proffering feasible solution to the Nigerian socio-economic and political conditions.

Despite being a billionaire, Kalu has maintained his grassroots sense of politics, and he has over the time evolved erudition and versatility in many spheres of Nigeria’s life.

On this and more, political analysts see Kalu’s credential as one fitted for a major power broker.

Whilst it’s not a new status for him, it is only left to be seen how the erudite businessman will navigate his influence.

As the days go by, the leadership role of others like the Minister of Power, Housing and Works, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; former governor Segun Osoba, are also manifesting.

Chief Osoba played a major responsibility in the election of Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State against Adekunle Akinlade, the man backed by incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun; even as Mohammed ensured the crash of the Saraki dynasty in Kwara State.

Nyesom Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike’s ascendency to political leadership started when he was sworn in as Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government for eight years during the tenure of Governor Peter Odili. Upon Rotimi Amaechi’s election in 2007, Wike became the new governor’s Chief of Staff from where he was appointed Minister of State for Education.

Since his election as Rivers State governor in 2015, he has been playing a leading role in the opposition PDP. On more than one occasion, he caused the convention of the party to be held in Rivers State and has been a stabilizing force in the PDP.

Wike also almost single-handedly installed Prince Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the party, and ensured the PDP put up a good fight, by rallying round other governors in the last elections.

Today, the party has reclaimed more states, and despite stiff opposition, Wike, noted for his sterling infrastructural development ability which earned him the pseudonym, ‘Mr. Projects’, is as good as winning re-election to the chagrin of his traducers in the oil-rich state.
Kayode Fayemi

When he assumed office as the Governor of Ekiti State, little did anyone know that Dr. Kayode Fayemi will end up as the ‘Mr. Fix It’ of the South-West! Aside changing the political template in his state, the former Minister of Mines and Steel also brought to bear his influence on elections in other states of the South-West for the APC.

Aside leading the charge of his party to its 100 per cent victory at the 2019 general elections, Fayemi was also at the forefront of his party’s quest to seal alliances and settle internal wrangling among members of his party in Oyo and Ondo states.

The governor had literarily masterminded the alliance that secured APC’s victory at the last Osun State governorship election rerun in 2018.

With his increasing influence in politics, not a few are already picking him out as one of the best feet that the southwest may put forward should the APC narrow its 2023 presidential ticket to the zone.

Rashidi Ladoja

After the exit of the “Garrison Commander” of the Oyo State politics, Late Alhaji Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu, who bestrode the political landscape of the state like a colossus, perhaps one of the newest miracles to happen to the state is High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ladoja led a coalition of forces of about four major opposition parties which has conferred the title of political godfather on him.

Ladoja’s former Deputy Governor, and Ogbomoso political warlord, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, who for the purpose of not wanting the 2015 experience (where the APC defeated other opposition parties including the PDP), to repeat itself, had initiated the coalition by co-opting his boss into the arrangement of making the underbelly of the APC’s fish to glitter at the smiling sun in the March 9, gubernatorial election.

With the election of Seyi Makinde, Ladoja has written his name more indelibly in the annals of history as a leader of a coalition that not only prevented a sitting governor from installing a successor but also ensured that Ajumobi lost his bid for the Senate.

Ibrahim Gaidam (Yobe)

Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam is not your typical politician. Unlike his ilk who go to the rooftop to air their personalities, the Yobe governor is not one given to such. He is considered as one of the longest serving government officials in the country after serving out in government for about 10 years.

He served as deputy governor to late Governor Mamman Ali before he took over the Government House following the demise of his boss. For many, he is now the de facto landlord in Yobe.

Gaidam, who is about completing 10 years in office as governor, was able to establish a political structure that helped him win two successive general elections in 2011 and 2015, addition to the tenure of his late boss which he completed in 2011. He has successfully tested his political strength by having a say in almost all those who secured tickets for various offices.

The governor literally picked MaiMala Buni as his successor, ditto for almost all APC candidates in other elective offices. With himself picking one of the three senatorial seats, Gaidam is sure one of the new power brokers the 2019 elections was able to produce.

For the records, he has been able to force the opposition PDP into political oblivion, just as he was able to keep the North-East state off the radar of intra-party acrimony. With the uncertainty on where the pendulum of the 2023 presidency of the APC may swing, Gaidam is a factor to consider should the party looks at the northeast zone.

Kashim Shettima

Against all odds, Governor Kashim Shettima has succeeded in demystifying his onetime godfather, ex-governor Ali Modu Sheriff in the politics of Borno State.

For many, Sheriff, who has a record of enthroning and dethroning kings in the state, was the most powerful politician in the North Eastern state, but his erstwhile godson has changed that narrative.

Interestingly, Shettima has also humbled many politicians in the state, including former ministers, ambassadors and many others with high profile influence in the corridors of power in Abuja.

Shettima succeeded in the last APC primaries to have his candidate Prof. Babagana Zulum as the gubernatorial candidate of the APC; he picked the APC senatorial ticket for Borno Central and ensured that Senator Abubakar Kyari and Ali Ndume picked theirs, as well as being instrumental to the emergence of all the House of Reps and State Assembly candidates.

His sense of choices paid off as he delivered for the APC and not even the presence of Sheriff could derail the moving train of Shettima.

As it stands, Shettima, who many considered as a loyal party man, has carved a niche for himself in politics as he has also tamed the PDP in the state.

Following the killing of young Nigerian man, Kolade Johnson, by SARS operatives, President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the security agents that its government will not tolerate the brutalization of more Nigerians.

President Buhari in statement obtained by Igbere TV revealed that any law enforcement officer or government functionary caught in this act will be visited with the full weight of the law.

Following the second term victory of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in the just concluded governorship election in Abia State, Rt. Uzor Azubuike and Alex Ikwechegh have hosted the People's Democratic Party members in Aba North and Aba South for their support in seeing that Ikpeazu and other PDP candidates emerged victorious.

During the event which held at Aba Town Hall, Alex Ikwechegh, former Aba North Chairman, thanked PDP members for massively voting for Ikpeazu in the just concluded elections.

He described Ikpeazu as a kind man who never looked down on people and urged him to keep working hard for the people of Abia State.

According to him, " I want to thank PDP members here for putting up a good fight which made Ikpeazu to emerge victorious in the just concluded elections".

"I'm hopeful that Ikpeazu will do better in the next four years which he will govern this state again. He has many projects at hand and I know he will finish many of them before his tenure will elaspe ".

There was jubilations immediately he made a huge cash donation to the PDP members to celebrate Ikpeazu's victory and pledge to do more.

Speak during the event, Hon. Azubuike said PDP members were called together in order to remind them that they have  every reason to thank God because of the victory recorded by Ikpeazu and other PDP candidates in Abia State.

In his words,

"We are here today because it's not easy to do campaign without having anything fight, injury or recoding any death of PDP members."

"So it calls for celebration and most importantly, we had two trophies which we looked forward to getting. Remember, before the election, I told you people that if I win the House of Representatives seat but lose the governorship seat and presidential that we have lost everything because I don't know why anyone who is working hard like Ikpeazu should not be reelected.

"There is nothing that we will get in the House of Representatives seat that we will use to compensate our people that will be equal to that which we will get in the governorship seat ".

" But as it happens, we lost the House of Representatives seat but won the Governorship seat and that's the major thing. "

"Because in the office of the governor, we have various positions,  we have office of the Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants and Advisers".

"That offices will be protected and the ones of counselors, LGA Chairmen whether elected or through transitions and the offices in the market, trade union, they are all protected now ".

"If we lose everything and won that one, we have every reason to thank God".

"That is not to say that in the future, we shouldn't plan to do better because we still need to do better and regain the seats which we lost ".

"Some people said that they want to come and console me but I don't see any reason they should come to console me because as a person I didn't lose".

"From that day till today, I didn't lose and I don't think I will lose. We, as a state and as a people there is a setback but in nature there must always be set back ".

"But when there is setback, we should not remain there, we move on because some setback is more good things to come".

"I am aware that my colleague in the last election who contested and won died in the cause of celebrating his victory. So I have every reason to thank God because I didn't win and I'm alive ".

"I'm confident and I want to assure you that I lost the seat is not the end of life. The important thing is when there is life, there is hope. And what matters to us is to remember that we belong to a family which is PDP and it is the largest political party in the history of Africa ".

"What I want to advise our people is that future is more important than yesterday. It is today that will define tomorrow and let's begin today to work as a team today prepare for our future".

"Let us begin to hold our party and our party people together, let's us know that what makes party is not party membership but party faithfulness."

"We discovered that we have a multitude of party members but few party faithful. Unfortunately, in political system, people who suffer are those members who are not faithful."

"So this event is to thank God first for seeing us through, " he added.

Igbere TV reports that among the dignitaries that attended the event include,

Hon. Barr. Uzoh Azubuike
Chief Dr. MCMC Okoli
Chief Ifeanyi Ikwechegh
Hon. Emmanuel... (former chairman Aba South)

2019 Elections : Finally, German President Reacts To Buhari’s Victory

Following the conclusion of 2019 general elections, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has called President Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.

Igbere TV recalls that Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A statement Monday night by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said Chancellor Merkel pledged to continue cooperation with Nigeria on peace and security, while promoting investment and trade for sustainable economic development.

“President Buhari thanked the German Chancellor for her spirited efforts in combating irregular migration on the continent, lauding the policy of assisting immigrants in need”, the statement added.

“Igbos Don't Matter”: Tinubu Treading On Same Path That Destroyed Awolowo, Abiola

By Emeh James Anyalekwa

“Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past.” — Marx

While we are still at loss as to why the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) chose to zone the position of the Senate President of the incoming ninth Assembly to the North, we are even more surprised with their recent outburst and hate towards the South-East region. One may wonder if this is how the ruling party plans to “unite the country” (as promised) by playing sectional politics of hate towards a particular region.

I can remember in 2015 when Mr Femi Adesina declared that the reason why the party did not zone the Senate President to the South-East is because there was no APC Senator-elect from the region. Fast forward to 2019, the APC has produced ranking Senators from the region with former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu dominating the list. Yes, Dr. Kalu is a ranking Senator having served in the Federal House of Representatives - both chambers are known as NASS and recognized in ranking legislators.

Now, the same APC is giving another “reason” that the South-East did not vote Buhari. Like seriously? In Abia North for instance, the president won the entire five local governments, while the ruling party also won 2 out of the 3 Reps seat and the Senate seat from the district. Generally, Buhari garnered over 80,000 votes as against the 15,000 votes in 2015.

If really the APC leadership know fully well that the election of National Assembly leaders are done via secret ballot system, then one may wonder why they continue to remain unguarded and reckless with their utterances, while imposing unpopular candidates on supposed distinguished legislators.

Inasmuch as I believe in party supremacy, I strongly believe that at the Senate level and National Assembly generally, persuasion and not coercion should come to play in actualizing the party's objectives.

As it stands now, a lot is at stake in the struggle for the various National Assembly positions. 2023 is fast approaching and president Buhari is constitutionally not qualified to run, hence, several political forces are warming up to take over either directly or indirectly through their trusted loyalists; and who controls the National Assembly is key in positioning the various camps ahead of 2023.

Within the APC, there are several powerful camps interested in 2023 and none would allow the National Assembly to fall easily into the hands of the other. If ex-President Obasanjo could not coerce the NASS to do his bidding ahead of 2007, Bola Tinubu and Oshiomhole will be wallowing in self deception to think they can sit in their living rooms and impose leaders on the National Assembly.

It's on record that Bola Tinubu single-handedly appointed Buhari's Vice, Yemi Osinbajo and the party's National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole in the helm of affairs. To think that Buhari will sit and watch a domineering and overtly ambitious Tinubu to also single-handedly appoint the Senate President in the person of his known-loyalist, Ahmed Lawan and Speaker, Femi Gbajiabiamila, will portray the president as the most daft head of state in the whole world.

What happens (to Buhari) in the event of a strong disagreement with Tinubu? Your guess is as good as mine. Before it's too late, APC leadership should retrace their steps and apply caution.

All regions and stakeholders should be carried along in the party's zoning arrangement. Man by its nature abhores injustice. An arrangement that favours one region ahead of others should be jettissoned.

Nigeria is built on a tripod — Igbo, Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba are the major ethnic groups. Any arrangement that relegates any of the three to the background will be vehemently resisted.

The Hausa/Fulani have the number one position, Yoruba have number two, by all fair standard, Igbo or any of the minorities should have number three. However, since one of the minority ethnic groups have the party’s Chairman, Igbo should be given the number three position.

In the light of this reality, from the foregoing, the body language of the APC that the South-East doesn’t count should stop now. Tinubu said “Igbos don’t matter” after all, just like his wife posited that “Igbos can’t be trusted anymore”. Tinubu must be reminded that this path he has chosen to tread presently led to the downfall of two great men in the history of Nigeria politics — Awolowo and Abiola.

If Tinubu and APC leaders, however, decide to ignore this piece of advice, they should be ready for another shocker on the second week of June when the 9th Assembly is expected to be inaugurated.

Emeh James Anyalekwa, National President, Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), writes from Uyo
