Here is the layman's understanding:
What is Dangote saying?
Dangote wants to allow ordinary Nigerians and investors to own part of the Dangote Refinery by selling shares to the public through an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
Breaking it down:
1. What is an IPO?
An IPO means a company is offering part of its ownership to the public for the first time.
So, instead of Dangote and other existing owners owning the refinery alone, members of the public can buy shares and become part-owners.
2. How much is one share?
Each share costs:
₦525
3. What is the minimum amount you can invest?
You must buy at least 10 shares.
So:
₦525 × 10 = ₦5,250
This means you can potentially become a shareholder in Dangote Refinery with as little as ₦5,250 (excluding possible transaction fees).
4. How many shares are being offered?
Dangote Refinery is offering approximately:
4.1 billion shares
to investors.
5. How much money does Dangote want to raise?
The company hopes to raise over:
₦2 trillion
from investors.
Simple example
Imagine Dangote Refinery is a very large cake. Previously, only Dangote and existing investors owned the cake.
Now, they want to cut part of the cake into billions of tiny pieces called shares and sell them to the public.
If you buy 10 shares for ₦5,250, you own a very tiny portion of Dangote Refinery.
Why is the company raising this money?
According to Dangote, the money will be used to expand the refinery business.
In one sentence:
Dangote is planning to let ordinary Nigerians invest in and own a small part of the Dangote Refinery, starting from a minimum investment of ₦5,250.

It was an embarrassing movement for me. I went for an evening program at one of the churches in my area. It was time to give offering we were given envelope, summoned one of the ushers that I have #200 with me, intent to give #100. The brother told me to put the #200 inside the envelope given and I should come to usher stand for #100 at the end of the program. After the program I went as directed to meet the brother (Usher) it was there I received the schock of my life from the brother that he didn't saw me when I dropped offering. It was a big church though. I was really embarrassed amidst other ushers starring at me like a criminal. Like that wasn't enough, he even went to report me to pastor. Tears was rolling down from my face that day. Thank God that didn't stopped me from going to church or in given.
