I totally agree with this statement. I called someone to come hang my 65" tv. The guy dey charge me £60.....60 kini, na so i enter Facebook market, find £10 correct cordless drill, enter wilko bought the kits and tv hanger. I tell madam to prepare pounded yam in the morning for strength. By afternoon we're already charged up. Na so i begin DIY work. Brethren, me and madam lift the tv up after i don connect all the hangers and all. I do my thing myself and i was very pleased and proud. Next stop wey i dey plan na to install wallpapers myself and do some paintings. This Uk will teach you skills.

Good evening,
My name is xx, a full-time international student at xx University and my partner's name is xx.
I reside at xx. I had initially requested a council tax exemption as a full-time student but was told my partner is a liable party for council tax because he is not a full-time student. We received the attached bill to this effect for the period xx 2022 - xx 2023 wherein it was split into xx equal installments.

However, Article 3 of the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order, SI 1992/558 provides that 'A dwelling is exempt from council tax if it falls within any of the following Class N: a dwelling which is either:
(a) occupied by one or more residents all of whom are relevant persons;
(b) occupied only by one or more relevant persons as term time accommodation.

A relevant person means:
(i) a student;
(ii) a student's spouse or dependant being in each case a person who is not a British citizen and who is prevented, by the terms of his leave to enter or remain in the UK, from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits or (iii) a person to whom Class C (school or college leavers) of regulation 3(1) of the Council Tax (Additional Provision for Discount Disregards) Regulation 1992 applies.

From the foregoing, please note that I belong to category a(i) I am a student and my partner belongs to category a(ii) he is the spouse of a student. We are both non-British citizens and his visa prevents him from claiming benefits. Subsequently, we qualify for the 100% council tax exemption.

Hello Elders, I plan driving to London from the North East for the passport renewal of my wife and 3 kids.

We intend going a day before the appointment and then lodge at an hotel or airbnb. To avoid all the ulez, red zones, blue zones issues around central London(I drive a 2013 Citroën c4 hatchback), I'm thinking we should look for where to lodge in the outskirts of London. We can then get a bus or train early morning on the day of the appointment to the high commission. We also want the kids to visit one or two fun places in London before we return to our North. 😀

Elders, that have done this in the past, what's my best bet and which areas of London can we get an affordable accommodation for one night. Thanks as always.

If anything, take this advice from me. As a non resident of central london, i take God beg you, no drive enter london. Speaking from experience! E no funny at all..except you know how it works driving in central london and you know your way around there.

You can be an electrician on Tier-2 and get sponsored as a doctor and it would not reset.

The rule of thumb to get ILR within 5 years once you get a Tier-2 is:
- Once a Main Applicant, always a Main Applicant.
- Once a Dependant, always a Depandant.

It’s not correct that ILR counter resets if you change industry. What matters is the time spent in different visa types. Industry is irrelevant.

I’d rather allow my spouse to be on NHS sponsorship than me being non sponsorship.

1. NHS offer flexible working arrangement.

2. NHS is around 3 days working in a week for three times and 4 days working for the fourth week which mean 3,3,3,4 = 37.5hrs x4 weeks. ( I don’t know if that applies to England as well, but yes in Scotland, tho the days might interpolate). Meaning she will mostly be working 3 days a week, with mixture of nights and days. Some week all night shift and some other week all day shift, I don’t know if exchanging shift with colleague applies. (But most employer understands the needs for family commitments, which shouldn’t be a problem)

3. In my own perspective, working flexible as husband will give me option to explore other options.

4. NHS is government funded, so Job security shouldn’t be a problem.

5. There are possibilities of career progression from band 3 to 4 etc for an unrelenting person in NHS.

6. Most importantly consider the fact that your ilr will start counting again if you switch role or primary sponsor, should NHS give 3 years sponsor first, you are likely to get the remaining years to complete your 5 years, and here in Scotland NHS mostly give 5 years straight.

Just an opinion, considering your options carefully.

A quick question guys. So i met with some couples during one of our outings and we got talking. The company he got a sponsorship with offered him 2yrs sponsorship, his wife is working with the nhs and was offered sponsorship as well, but due to child care. They both agreed the husband gets the sponsorship while the wife goes on bank with nhs so she can be flexible with child care. They raised a concern i asked them to inquire about while i do same for them. After the 2yrs elapses and maybe the sponsoring company decides not to continue sponsoring, can the wife take up sponsorship with nhs while the husband switches to dependent ? Them doing 2yrs already, and the wife getting maybe 3 or 5yrs sponsorship, will they start all over again counting to ILR and the 2yrs done by the husband wasted ? Or they just combine both years and then count down to ILR seeing they just switched main sponsored roles. Note: they're both in the healthcare sector.
