The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has sent a note of warning to the Nigerian government concerning the reopening of schools.

The Union has, however, asked the Government to pay their outstanding salaries before talking on ending the strike.

This was made known at the unveiling of the union’s Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution at the University of Abuja on Tuesday.

Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, the National President of ASUU, said the move was key to further negotiations with the government over the ongoing industrial action.

"Members at the University of Maiduguri and the Michael Opara University of Agriculture have not been paid about five months’ salaries by the Accountant-General of the Federation on account of non-registration on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System."

he Police have arrested seven people on suspicion of the murder of BBNaija Khafi’s brother, Alexander Kareem.

Recall that the 20-year-old, Alexander was gunned down close to their family home in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.

The National Universities Commission in Abuja on Tuesday gave an update on the reopening of varsities very soon.

According to the commission, preparations were in top gear to reopen the nation’s universities after the forced closure due to COVID – 19 pandemic.

The commission said it was collating data on the assessment of the level of preparedness by the various universities.

It collating the data through vice-chancellors to determine if the universities were safe for resumption to both academic and non-academic activities.
