A groundbreaking study has delivered “unambiguous evidence” that the Earth’s inner core has been slowing its rotation relative to the planet’s surface since 2010. Researchers indicate that this deceleration might alter the length of a day on Earth by fractions of a second. The Earth’s inner core, a solid sphere composed primarily of iron and nickel, is encased within a liquid outer core made of molten metals. This core system is held in place by gravity and forms one of the planet’s three fundamental layers, alongside the mantle and crust. Due to its inaccessibility, scientists study the inner core by analyzing seismograms—recordings of seismic waves generated by earthquakes. The slowing of the inner core is a topic of intense debate within the scientific community. Some studies have suggested that the inner core rotates faster than the Earth’s surface. The world is on course to experience a "major surplus" of oil by 2030 as production increases while the clean energy transition tempers demand, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) in its annual report published Wednesday. The report projects that global demand for oil will "level off" at around 106 million barrels per day (bpd) toward the end of the decade. Meanwhile, overall supply capacity is expected to soar to 114 million bpd, resulting in an unprecedented surplus of eight million bpd. This forecast signals a significant shift that oil markets must prepare for. This projection comes just days after the OPEC+ consortium of major crude producers indicated they would begin to unwind output cuts this autumn. These cuts were initially implemented to support oil prices amid concerns of weakening global demand. The anticipated surplus marks a stark contrast to the market conditions that prompted those production restrictions. In its comprehensive report, the IEA highlighted that fast-developing Asian economies, particularly China, along with the aviation and petrochemical industries, would continue to drive substantial oil demand. In 2023, global oil demand was recorded at 102 million bpd. READ MORE: https://cinecritiquehub.com.ng/2024/06/12/international-energy-agency-predicts-significant-oil-supply-surplus/

Alphabet's Google announced on Tuesday that Brazil will be the first country to pilot a groundbreaking anti-theft feature for Android phones. This new feature leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to identify when a phone has been stolen and subsequently lock the device’s screen to prevent unauthorized access. In the initial testing phase, users will have access to three distinct types of locking mechanisms. The first mechanism employs AI developed by Google to detect signals indicative of "common movements associated with theft." When such movements are identified, the screen will automatically lock, rendering the device unusable by potential thieves. The second feature allows users to remotely lock their device by entering their phone number and completing a security challenge from another trusted device. This option provides an additional layer of security for users who realize their phone has been stolen but are not in immediate possession of another device.
