It's not even about going lower. It's using the power they have. Congress controls the contours of the Supreme Court. The only thing the Constitution requires is a Supreme Court, how it operates, it's size, what cases it takes, is controlled by Congress. How many hearings have the Democratically controlled Senate had on it? 0. They are so weak, that Leonard Leo, a private citizen can tell them to pound sand when they send hima subpoena.

If Trump loses it will be proven his path is ineffective to win a national election. But he still raised a ton of money. So, his path is effective at raising money and making yourself rich. So, being most Republicans are grifters (Ted Cruz, a US senator has a full time podcast), they care more about money and maintain power than policy and winning elections outside of their own.

To go after a drug user who had a gun fort 10 days who didn't use it for anything nefarious or a Gun store who was forging gun Sale forms to maybe sell guns to people who couldn't have them?
