Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday promised that the Federal Government is planning urgent relief to poultry farmers in the country to save the industry from collapse. He gave the indication during his second meeting in the week with representatives of the poultry industry at the Presidential Villa. The intervention is part of an urgent effort by the federal government to address challenges in the agricultural sub-sector in line with its policy on self-sufficiency in food production. The poultry industry has had to contend with a number of challenges including an outbreak of Avian Influenza which affected almost four million birds in 2015. It also suffered non-allocation of Foreign Exchange for the importation of needed machinery and other critical inputs, and high production costs in the industry. At the Friday meeting relevant ministers and agency heads came together to fashion out how to bail-out the ailing poultry industry. “The poultry industry is a local industry that needs to be protected urgently,” Mr. Osinbajo said at the meeting where specific measures were tabled and considered on how the federal government could be of help. He said the industry should be a major plank of the agriculture sector and as such the Buhari administration would ensure that it got help regarding the challenges being faced by operators of the sub-sector. He added that by supporting the local industry, poultry-related importation which was currently a drain on the country’s Foreign Exchange could be a thing of the past. In his remarks, Ayoola Oduntan, the President, Poultry Association of Nigeria, noted that poultry presently contributed 25 per cent of the Agricultural Gross Domestic Product of the Nigerian economy amounting to N1.6 trillion. He added that Nigeria was rated as the number one egg-producing nation and number four in poultry meat in the continent. The poultry sub-sector is said to generate over 14 million direct and indirect jobs in the country. Present at the meeting were the Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, and Agriculture and Rural Development Minister of State, Heineken Lokpobiri. Others were the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, and the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele. Mr. Lokpobiri later told State House correspondents that the ministry would embark on aggressive maize and soya bean cultivation to produce surplus of poultry feed input. “What we have is that we are going to develop a programme that will deliberately grow more maize which will satisfy not only our local market but the international market. “We have a demand from Algeria and some other countries. “They are saying that if we are able to grow two million metric tons and above for them they are going to construct a rail line to Kano to come and buy,’’ the minister disclosed. He also advised farmers hoarding maize with the intention of selling later to the federal government to desist as such produce would not be bought from them by the government. “It is also an opportunity to also send this signal to those who are hoarding maize that anybody who is hoarding maize does so at his own peril. “Federal Government will not buy maize. “The federal government buys grains as the buyer of last resort,” he said. The minister also said that the government was also planning to address the loss suffered by poultry farmers during the outbreak of Avian Influenza. “We also discussed the issue of Avian influenza that led to the destruction of a lot of birds in the country. “Some part of the money has been paid, but we still have an outstanding of N1.7 billion,’’ he said. The Center for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has upheld imprison sentences for Andrew Yakubu, previous NNPC Group Managing Director and previous Minister for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro. CACOL depicted the activity of the pair who have both sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as impudent and inexcusable. Responding to a current suit recorded by Obanikoro requesting N100m as general harms for the relinquishment of some of his benefits over the arms bargain trick, Executive Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said “the spate of the exposed face exemption being shown by some defilement suspects in the nation as the counter debasement drive is waxing on more grounded is turning out to be exceedingly irritating and ill bred of the aggregate knowledge of Nigerians as a people. “It is this tricky state of mind that is encouraging Obanikoro who at first fled from the nation when the top on the ‘jar of worms’ of the arms bargain outrage was lifted; who confessed to getting reserves and have proceeded to give back a few, to sue the EFCC for harms and break of his ‘major ‘human rights’. “This is somebody who profited from the intrigue against the very nation he should ensure as Minister of Defense for State to occupy and plunder the assets implied for obtaining guns to battle the Boko Haram uprising in the North East. Realizing this is a revolt which has prompted to the loss of innumerable lives and property; yet these components set out to exhibit this level of impudence, no doubt, makes Obanikoro’s turn like Andrew Yakubu’s for sure horrifying and annoying.” Additionally communicating repugnance at the level of fraud appeared by some debasement suspects as of late, Adeniran bemoaned how the individuals who “carry out wrongdoings that keep on damaging the socio-political and monetary pith of the nation can set out to manhandle the insightfulness of the general population so conspicuously is both disgusting and provocative. “As a result of components like Andrew Yakubu, previous NNPC GMD of the renowned worldwide N3 billion reserved money popularity and Obanikoro, the FG must heighten the battle against debasement as a few thieves are clearly hopeless, bold and obstinate. Truth be told they are starting to feel that they can simply escape with whatever they do. “As we have dependably recommended, despite the fact that we can relate with ‘supplication dealing’ to some point, we demand that any individual who has stolen cash from the Public or Private Purse ought to be tossed in the slammer after such stolen stores have been recovered from them especially the refractory ones. “The FG and EFCC must convey ingenuity and careful cautiousness in taking care of the legal procedures of debasement speculates like the bold team all together for the suspects not to escape equity by means of legitimate aerobatic,” CACOL finished up. The Federal government on Thursday said it has concluded arrangements to ensure that every Nigerian owns house within the next three years. It said plans were in top gear to ensure that it built 16-17 million units of houses every year across the states of the federation for public and private workers. The Minister of State, Power, Works and Housing, Hon. Mustapha Baba Shehuri made this disclosure in Ilorin, Kwara state capital on Thursday. According to him, the project which would be achieved under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement was already in sight. Hon Sheuri said this at the official commissioning of 250 housing estate units financed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). Speaking at the event, the minister said, “The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing will continue to strive at meeting the challenges of housing deficit in Nigeria, which has been put at 16-17million units. “Indeed, the Ministry’s plan to build several housing units in every state of the federation for public and private workers every year, over the next three years, under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement has reached an advanced stage in terms of implementation.” He said this became imperative because, “Every government has the responsibility of addressing the welfare of its citizens in all possible ways. “It is in this context that it has been a matter of priority for the President Muhamamdu Buhari led administration to provide affordable housing for the teeming Nigeria’s populace. “National Housing models have been designed and approved for each six geo political zones of the country.” While stressing that, “the 250 housing units being commissioned today are equipped with basic amenities required for a decent life,” the minister noted that, ‘the developer has done a good job and it is my humble prayer that the beneficiaries will make good use of these facilities to ensure the accomplishment of the lofty objectives for which huge expenditures were incurred by the government.” Shehuri also pointed out that, “the FMBN being the apex mortgage institution in Nigeria has a major role to play in the realization of the aspirations of many Nigerians towards owning a home through mortgage. “I am please to re-affirm the resolve of this administration to recapitalize the bank to the tune of N500billion which will no doubt reposition the bank to adequately and efficiently carry out its mandate under the National Housing programme of this administration in order to make the lower class Nigerians own houses easily.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-every-nigerian-must-house-3-years-fg/

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given a hint on how the nation can get out of the current economic recession. The work force on Thursday said the government must design policies that would bring back industries, create productive jobs, revive public electricity, revalue the naira, encourage the growth of informal economy, resume local production of petroleum products and develop solid minerals and tourism, among other resources of global economic values. Speaking at the 5th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers, president of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said with the way Nigeria depended in import, it would be difficult to move of the economic quagmire. Wabba said “We do not need any lecturing from the IMF or any external institutions to do this. We have vibrant and experienced experts that can develop policies on these. Indeed, government should as a matter of urgency, convene a conference on the economy or assemble an all-inclusive team to develop an economic recovery framework that is people driven and people focused.” The NLC boss added: “There can never be any external institution or country that will better develop policies that will serve the interests of our people and country than ourselves. “Happily, Nigeria is not in shortage of development experts that can fashion out profound, totally home grown development policies to move the country forward, if our leaders have the desired political will to call the bluff of over-bearing neo liberal institutions. “Our economy seems to have gone into a tailspin with the crash of the Naira and with the Central Bank appearing unable to offer a sustainable solution. “The truth of the matter is that we are an import-dependent economy and no import dependent economy easily survives recession except they take bold and conscious decisions. I urge our leaders to take those decisions today so that history will absolve them of complicity.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-nigeria-can-get-recession-nlc/

With more than 1.5 million Automated Teller Machines around the world, most of us simply take our ATM cards (debit and credit cards) for granted. Unfortunately, thieves know this and use it to their advantage; so ATM card theft is a big problem. In fact, as the ATM banking technology advances so too do the thieves. They have become so clever in their crimes that you may well not see them coming. The good news is that there are easy ways to protect yourself from ATM theft. ScamBuster highlight five common ATM scams and how to avoid them. Since knowledge is power, ScamBuster also offer eight tips on recognising and avoiding these scams. Common question about ATM This is one of the most common questions about ATM machines: Does entering your PIN in reverse really summon the police? The answer is no. This is a common mistake. Although this concept seems like a good idea, and a system was actually designed to notify the police by a Chicago businessman (so there is a grain of truth to this urban legend), but no such system has been implemented. The banking industry is not interested in the technology because of the cost and because they don’t believe it will work. Imagine trying to remember you PIN backwards with a thief pointing a gun at your head. So, simply delete these email hoaxes and don’t spread them to your friends. According to www.allclearid.com , here are five common ATM theft scams you need to avoid The Lebanese Loop Many thieves are using external devices to confiscate your card. In this scam, a blocking device (which can be as simple as some film glued to trap the ATM cards), is inserted into the card slot of the ATM machine. Unwittingly, you place your card into the machine and enter your PIN. All the while, someone nearby may be watching you enter your PIN. A very common reaction is to go into the bank to report your confiscated card. Now, the thieves jump into action. They remove the blocking device, along with your trapped ATM card and withdraw money from your account. The way the scammers use the Lebanese Loop can vary. Often, once your ATM card is trapped, a “Good Samaritan” will show up and offer advice on how to get your card back. They may suggest that you enter your PIN number a couple of times. They may also offer to hold the cancel button while you enter your PIN. What they’re really doing is memorising your PIN. They’re certainly not Samaritans at all! Card skimming Skimmers are devices added to ATM machines to capture your card’s information, including your account number, balance and PIN. These devices, often mounted alongside a machine and labelled ‘card cleaners,’ are difficult to notice unless you’re looking for them. You may also find card skimmers mounted beside the normal ATM card slot with a sign that says, “Slide card here first.” Sometimes they are even mounted right on top of where you would normally enter your card. Skimmers can actually collect and store up to 200 ATM cards before they need to be removed by thieves. Shoulder surfing, fake PIN pads, and even fake machines Another way to glean your ATM PIN is for thieves to mount a wireless video camera inside the ATM area. It can look as harmless as a brochure holder. Once the scammers have your number, magnetic strips are easy to make and thieves are able to easily reproduce ATM cards. In addition to using cameras to collect PINs, thieves have designed fake PIN pads that they place on top of the original ATM PIN pad. Unfortunately, with fake PIN pads, your ATM transaction will proceed normally and you won’t know a scammer has stolen anything until it’s too late. Thieves have also taken to occasionally putting up fake ATM machines in and around shopping centres and other public locations. Upon placing your card into the card reader, these machines collect your ATM PIN and account information. They do not dispense cash. Rather, a screen comes up that says that the machine is out of money or out of order. Cash trapping Similar to the Lebanese Loop where a thin sleeve traps your card, this time your cash is trapped by a sleeve or device slipped inside the cash dispenser. Your transaction will operate normally, but you won’t receive the cash you’ve withdrawn. Chances are you’ll either walk or drive away assuming the machine is out of order or you’ll go inside the bank and report the incident. Either way, you have left the machine and the thieves can walk up, remove the device, and your cash. Phishing We mentioned above how easy it is for thieves to replicate ATM cards. All they need is a magnetic strip and a plastic card. Armed with an ATM card, all a would-be thief needs is a PIN. Some email phishing scams have been designed to find out just that. Representing your bank, a scammer can send you an email with a notice on it saying something about incomplete account information or that you need to update your account information. You click on the link and follow the directions but you’re not at your bank, you’re at a site designed to look like your bank by thieves. They collect your information and are free to replicate your ATM card or simply withdraw money from your account via online banking. Source : https://www.punchng.com/five-common-atm-scams-avoid/amp/

Can we ever survive with this current constitutional ACT/LAW ? |
Erstwhile Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Kano to order the Federal Government to return to him, over N3billion that was found in his home in Kaduna. Yakubu, in a motion on notice with suit number FHC/ICN/CS/24/2017, filed by his lead counsel, Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, asked the court to set aside the forfeiture order that granted FG ownership of the money which was discovered by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 9. Specifically, he wants the court to set aside the order and return the $9,772,800 and £74,000,000 which he said belongs to him. The former NNPC boss insisted that the court lacked the jurisdiction to grant FG ownership of his money. According to him, the court, was bereft of the territorial jurisdiction to entertain the motion that culminated to the forfeiture order since it related to a crime that was alleged committed in Abuja. Raji, SAN, contended that going by section 45 of the Federal High Court Act, an offence should be tried only by a court exercising jurisdiction in the area or place where the offence was committed. “No aspect of the perceived offence in respect of which the Order of February 13, 2017 was made, was committed within the Kano judicial division of this Honourable Court”, Raji argued. He further maintained that FG lacked the locus-standi to seek the interim order of the court granted on February 13. “By Section 28 of the EFCC Act, only the commission, i.e. the EFCC has the vires to seek an order for the interim forfeiture of property under the Act. “The power of this Honourable Court to make interim forfeiture order(s) pursuant to sections 28 & 29 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004 (herein after referred to a “EFCC Act”) is applicable ONLY to alleged offences charged under the EFCC Act and not to offences cognizable under any other law. “The ex-parte order of this honourable court dated February 13, 2017, was made in respect of alleged offences under the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission Act (herein after “ICPC Act”) and not the EFCC Act as prescribed by section 28 & 29 thereof. “The conditions precedent to the grant of an interim forfeiture order under sections 28 & 29 of the EFCC Act were not complied with by the Applicant (FG) before the Order was made”, he submitted. Besides, he argued that the combined effect of sections 28 and 29 of the EFCC Act was that a charge alleging infractions against the provisions of the EFCC Act ought to be brought against a suspect before the powers of the court under cections 28 & 29 of the EFCC Act, to order interim forfeiture of property, could be activated. He insisted that without a formal charge, no prima-facie evidence could be established in order for the provisions of section 28 and 29 of the EFCC Act to be activated. “In the instant case, no charge was brought against the Respondent/Applicant before the provisions of section 28 and 29 of the EFCC Act were activated to grant the ex-parte Order of February 13, 2017”, he stated. Yakubu was Group Managing Director of the NNPC between 2012 and 2014. He was sacked by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for alleged insubordination and corruption. EFCC operatives raided his house situated in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, following a tip-off by a whistle-blower. The agency disclosed that it discovered the sum of $9.7m and £74,000 that Yakubu hid in a fireproof safe inside the house. The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday said the Federal Government would at the appropriate time convert the new official residence being built for the Vice President to another use. Osinbajo said this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, amid continued criticism of the project which is expected to gulp over N7b. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Dino Melaye, had disclosed recently that only the security post, also known as gateman’s house, in the building will gulp N250m. This was revealed on Thursday by the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory. But Akande said the decision to build the new residence and the controversial gatehouse preceded the present administration. He said Osinbajo’s position had remained that his present official residence, Akinola Aguda House, is good enough for him. He gave an indication that the 14 building in the residence which is already in about 85% completion stage would be used for another purpose. The statement read, “For the umpteenth time, we like to clarify that the proposed plan of the immediate past administration to build a new official residence for the occupant of the Office of the Vice President, including the controversial gatehouse preceded this administration. “The project which started in 2010, was initiated and funded by the immediate past administration, but had never featured in the two budget proposals of the Buhari administration: neither in the 2016 nor the 2017 spending plans. “Any suggestion therefore that this project benefits our administration or that it reflects our spending style or preferences is not only misleading but blatantly false. “Besides, the incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said publicly that he considers Aguda House, which he currently occupies, a befitting official residence for the Vice President and sufficient for his needs. “While the project is now about 85% complete, the Federal Government, in the circumstances, will decide at the appropriate time what is the best use for the 14 buildings already on the project site.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-osinbajo-rejects-n7b-vp-residence-says-will-remain-current-accommodation/

Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose on Saturday urged those visiting Buhari in the UK to “allow him rest”. The Governor made this disclosure at the weekend while commenting on some national issues. In a statement released in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, the Ekiti State Governor said his prayers are with President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that he “is only human and he can fall sick like every other person created by God” He said “My prayers are with the President. Bi a ba nja bii ka ku ko (If we are fighting, it is not to the extent of wishing that the President dies. Most importantly, my disagreement with President Buhari is for the goods of Nigerians. All of us should be praying for him. On the issue of visiting the President, I think they should allow him to rest. Those who are going to the UK to visit him are not helping the President. You can see that I have not been criticising him now because he is sick. When he comes back, I will start again. The criticism is not because I hate him, it is what is needed for good governance. It is through those criticism that he can even perform better. My only problem is his handlers who will say one thing today and say another thing tomorrow. The President is only human and he can fall sick like every other person created by God. So, I pray that the President gets well soon so that he can come back home and deliver his electoral promises.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-allow-buhari-rest-stop-visiting-fayose/
