Christianity EtcJollof Rice Made Me Go To UNN – Pastor Adeboye by ijebuloaded(op): 5:57pm On Jan 24, 2017
THE general overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that jollof rice and chicken being enjoyed by the students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, way back in 1962, made him to choose the UNN as a university where he would do his first degree. Adeboye who was awarded with an honorarily doctorate degree of Doctor of Divinity, DD by the University on Tuesday, said that he developed interest in the University when he went with his fellow students on an excursion to UNN in 1962 and saw students eating jollof rice with half a chicken.

The cleric said that when he saw the way the students were enjoying then, he decided that he God permitted, he would come to UNN to study and lucky enough, the following year, 1963, he gained admission into the prestigious University. Carried by what he saw, Adeboye said that, “I took a pebble from the ground asked God to make me come to the University. The following year, 1963, God answered my prayers.” Adeboye however regretted that he could not graduate from the University as he left in 1966 without a degree. He expressed joy, however, that sixty years later, he has now been awarded a doctorate degree from the same University and professors call him, ‘daddy.’ “I left UNN in 1966 without a degree. Sixty years later, I have gotten a degree from UNN, now not as a first degree but a doctorate degree. That is why I feel elated. I am overwhelmed,” he said. Speaking at the occasion, Pro-chancellor of the University, Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, said that Adeboye deserved the honourary degree because he was a man of achievement. “It is necessary to point out, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that the University of Nigeria places high premium on positive, and the road to the attainment of its honourary degree is quite tight indeed. “As a result, anyone that successfully moves through the tight rope deserves our honour and veneration. I, therefore congratulate Pastor E. A Adeboye for his selection for the award of the honourary degree of the University. Welcome on board as a significant member of the den of lions and lionesses,” Ukala represented by the vice chancellor, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba said.

Because we don't want them to spoil the good memories of them that we have.

Like they say, all good things must come to an end. For some of these artistes, the end has come for a few years.

Because we really like them and we don’t want the good memories we have of them to be tainted, we’ll like to respectfully recommend them for retirement. There’s no shame in that, is there?

1. Sound Sultan

You’ve been a mentor and big brother to many artistes. Your songwriting ability has never been in doubt but the arrangement just no dey gel again. As you probably noticed with the cold reception of your seventh album, it’s time to free the music jare.

2. 2face Idibia

When artistes start changing names, you know there’s not much music to give again. And after all of 2baba‘s achievements, who can blame him? Now that his kids are growing up, maybe now is the time to spend more time with them.

3. 9ice

When 9ice decided to enter politics, he knew what he was doing. Being involved in politics is likely to pay him (pun unintended) more than music. 2019 is around the corner. Now is the time to start campaigning o!

4. Ice Prince

When was the last time Ice had a hit? It’s been a long while. He seems to not to be sure of what to do; rap or pop. But Chocolate City has given him his own label, Super Cool Cats. Time to learn how to recruit new stars.

5. Ruggedman

There was a time when Rugged had rhymes, wit and punchlines. But that was long ago.

Daddy, take time off, go for vacations, tour the world, and focus more on the clothing business. This rap thing is not werking again.

6. D’Prince

To be honest, if it wasn’t for this video Don Jazzy shared on Sunday morning about him going to church with DPrince, most people have completely forgotten about his younger brother.

7. Kayswitch

We are still trying to look for another job description for you sir; since the only biography you had went with Mohits Records.

8. D’banj

At this juncture, it is clear to the Kokomaster that he needs to pay more attention to his agric ventures and forget about music. There’s nothing to prove anymore- he’s not very good at making hits anymore.

9. Banky W

Thank God he knows how to direct now; perhaps it’s time to join Kemi Adetiba, and possibly feature in more movies. If that was good enough for Will Smith who left his somewhat lukewarm music career for Hollywood, then it’s most definitely good for Mr Capable.

10. Ill Bliss

The self acclaimed ‘Oga Boss’ who is only a boss at Capital Hill. Phyno has gone. Chidinma has gone. Even Suspekt has moved on. On behalf of Nigeria new school youths, we award you the permission to retire. Those two Headies plaque were retirement gifts in disguise, just in case you didn’t know.

PhonesWhy Galaxy Note 7 Catches Fire – Samsung by ijebuloaded(op): 1:31pm On Jan 23, 2017
The design and production of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s batteries caused the mobile phones to catch fire, the South Korean company said on Monday.

“Our investigation, as well as investigations completed by three independent industry organisations, concluded that the batteries were found to be the cause of the Note 7 incidents.

“Some 700 engineers examined 200,000 devices and 30,000 batteries during the investigation into the cause of the fires,’’ Samsung said in a statement.

Samsung began selling the phone on August 19, but said in October it was discontinuing production following a global recall and multiple reports of some of the devices catching fire.

The discontinuation of production was estimated to cost the South Korean tech giant 3.5 trillion won (three billion dollars) in operating profit from the fourth quarter of 2016 through the first quarter of 2017.

The 940-dollar device was aimed at the premium end of the market, where it was intended to compete with Apple’s iPhone.

Over one million phones were recalled.

Following the recall, the U.S. Department of Transportation strengthened an earlier Federal Aviation Administration warning by ordering airline passengers not to bring Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on planes unless they keep them turned off and don’t charge them during the flight.

PoliticsNigeria Recognises ‘one China Policy,’ Pledges To Honour Chinese Agreements by ijebuloaded(op): 9:37pm On Jan 11, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in Abuja pledged that Nigeria will keep faith with all agreements signed with the People’s Republic of China.
The President, who received the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, at the State House, said his administration is fully committed to the infrastructural development of the country.

‘‘This administration is very serious about infrastructural development. We want rail, road, power, skill acquisition for our people. We ought to have developed beyond this point, but we neglected infrastructure when we had the resources.

‘‘Now, we have to collaborate with you, and we will keep our side of the bargain in all the agreements we have signed,” President Buhari said.

The Nigerian President had visited China in April, last year, as guest of President Xi Jinping, and the two countries signed memoranda of understanding on projects, running into billions of dollars.

Some of the projects due for immediate implementation include railways, the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, among others, while the sum of 100 million yuan would be released for agriculture demonstration centres.

In his remarks, the Chinese Foreign Minister described President Buhari’s visit to China last year as “very successful,” adding that President Xi Jinping looked forward to greater collaboration between the two countries.

Mr. Wang Yi lauded Nigeria for recognizing the “one China policy,” saying President Buhari, who fought a civil war to keep Nigeria one, knows the value of unity.

He also commended efforts being made by the President to diversify the Nigerian economy, stressing that China will be a reliable partner in the ongoing efforts to restructure the economy.

‘‘We will cooperate with you to achieve food self-sufficiency. We will also get involved in industrialization, hydro power, and the military and defence sector,” Mr. Wang Yi said.

The Chinese minister also said his country was pleased with the successes recorded by President Buhari’s administration in the war against terrorism.

PoliticsTribunal Adjourns Saraki’s Trial To January 17 by ijebuloaded(op): 9:15pm On Jan 11, 2017
The Code of Conduct Tribunal has adjourned the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki to Jan. 17, to enable the prosecution to present more witnesses.

Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, adjourned the matter following request for more time by the prosecution counsel, Mr Rotimi Jacobs.

Umar said the tribunal was doing all it can to work by the provisions of Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), on the matter.

“We are bound by the ACJA; we are trying to be lenient with all the parties. This matter is hereby adjourned to Jan. 17 for continuation of hearing,

Jacobs had said some of the prosecution witnesses were in Lagos and that time was needed to enable him to produce them.

Defence counsel led by Kanu Agabi (SAN), had prayed the court to grant leave for possible re-examination of a witness, Michael Wetkass.

Agabi said there were perceived ambiguities in some of the evidences given by the witness during his examination and cross-examination.

Mr Paul Usoro, a defence counsel informed the court that the essence of the re-examination was to clarify some of the ambiguities before the tribunal.

“One of the charges says 3.4 million dollars was transferred but your evidence in chief says otherwise’’, Usoro said.

Wetkass had told the tribunal that he did not investigate Saraki personally and that his business record was also not investigated by him.

Wetkass also told the tribunal that he was part of the investigative team and that the total amount transferred by Saraki to his foreign account through America Expresss Bank was 3.5 million dollars.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was serious argument on the exact period Saraki’s property at No. 15, Madona Street, Ikoyi, Lagos was allocated to him.

PoliticsFani-kayode Commends Buhari For Suspending FRC Code by ijebuloaded(op): 11:00pm On Jan 10, 2017
Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria code, which set a 20-year limit for leaders of all non-profit organizations.
Fani-Kayode, who is a notorious critic of Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the move was a good one.

He wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday: “I commend @MBuhari for responding to the outrage of Christians by suspending law that set to limit Church leadership to 20 yrs. Good move.”

The federal government suspended the law on Monday, after Buhari sacked Jim Obazee as the Executive Secretary of the Council.

The law had led Pastor Enoch Adeboye to step down as the Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Nigeria.

Politics2017 Budget Will Leave Nigerians Poorer – NGO by ijebuloaded(op): 5:58pm On Jan 10, 2017
Everest Amaefule, Abuja
With a debt component of N2.3tn, the 2017 budget of the Federal Government will increase the debt of burden of Nigeria, a Non-Government Organisation, Social Action has said.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, Head of Social Action, Abuja, Mrs. Vivian Bellonwu-Okafor, said with some fiscal policies that had been implemented by the government, the 2017 budget would only leave many Nigerians poorer.

Bellonwu-Okafor said, “If the budget is indeed an instrument to gauge the policy direction of government with a view to understanding its development priorities in the areas of both economic, infrastructural and human development, then the 2017 proposed budget of the Federal Government holds very poor or no prospect of indeed bringing the country out of recession.

“For a national budget that is predicated on huge borrowing of a staggering N2.3tn consequent upon a 31 per cent deficit, it baffles to imagine how the handlers of the nation’s economy could contrive such perilous economic calculation even in the face of the obvious jeopardy and vulnerability that this nature and level of unrestrained borrowing has placed the country on.

“With pale economic indicators including runaway inflation at 18 per cent according to the National Bureau of Statistics, which has cascaded to virtually every item/product/service in all sectors of the economy and weak naira that is fast depreciating, devoting such degree of funding of the national budget to borrowing is misguided.”

She added, “In general, the 2017 budget proposal is a mis-match of the avowed policy commitment of the government especially as it concerns economic recovery and exit from recession. It is indeed difficult to see how a national budget in which 23 per cent will be used to service debt and 31 per cent will in turn be borrowed and again passed over to the following year with even greater costs in both capital and interest repayment can bring about an end to recession.
