PoliticsWearing Customs Uniform Will ‘belittle’ Ali’s Army Achievement - Retired General by ijebuloaded(op): 7:51pm On Mar 19, 2017
David Jemibewon, a retired major general and former governor of defunct Western State, has weighed in on the ongoing faceoff between the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service and the Senate.
Hameed Ali, a retired colonel, has not been seen in Customs uniform since he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, sparking confrontation between him and senators who threatened serious consequences if he failed to do so by next week.
The senate before then had passed a resolution demanding that the customs boss appears before it on the service uniform to explain issues bordering on duty payment for imported vehicles.
Mr. Jemibewon said the demand from the senators was unnecessary.

“We tend to create controversy where there ought not to be controversy. In a situation we are today, we should not be focusing on wearing a uniform,” Mr. Jemibewon said.

Nonetheless, he threw his support behind Mr. Ali, describing him as a fine military man who should not belittle himself with Customs uniform.

“It would be belittling the position of the uniform of a member of the Armed forces,” Mr. Jemibewon said.
Mr. Jemibewon, a former Minister of Police Affairs, said he would have resigned if anyone had compelled him to wear police uniform as a minister.

“There was no way anybody could have compelled me to wear uniform. I would have resigned,” Mr. Jemibewon said. “Even if the law said so I would have resigned.”
The comments came days after PREMIUM TIMES reported that a former Customs chief appointed outside the service in similar manner as Mr. Ali wore uniform.
“The moment I was appointed, I became a career Customs officer,” Bello Haliru told PREMIUM TIMES last week. “I knew I must comply with all rules and regulations of the organisation I am leading and that included wearing a uniform.”

Similarly, Haladu Hananiya, a former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, wore uniform of the agency following his appointment by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

This was despite the fact that Mr. Hananiya retired from the Nigerian Army as a major-general, years before his appointment to the FRSC

When reminded about these past events, Mr. Jemibewon praised their humility, but stood his ground, still.

“That is very good and I am happy about that. He probably just wanted to identify with them,” Mr. Jemibewon said of Mr. Hananiya, adding that they joined the Army together on the same day.
Mr. Jemibewon also admitted that he doesn’t know what Customs rules and regulations stipulate, but repeated that an Army officer should be above a Customs’ uniform.

“The highest patriotic body in any country in the world is the Army,” Mr. Jemibewon said. “You don’t expect someone who has risen to that position in the Army to wear customs uniform.”

“Here is a man who has excelled in his military career and you’re asking that one to wear Customs uniform? I don’t see how that will ensure competence and efficiency.”

But a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, disagreed, writing on Twitter that the Senate must assert its position and a foremost authority in the country.

“The Senate should insist that he appears before them stark naked. If he refuses they should arrest him and have him brought in chains,” Mr. Fani-Kayode, who had beenstanding trial for alleged corruption since last year, tweeted on Sunday.
The Senate rescheduled Mr. Ali’s appearance to March 22 during which he must appear in uniform.

Politics"I Didn't Give Approval For Launch Of Radio Biafra In America"– Nnamdi Kanu by ijebuloaded(op): 5:22pm On Mar 19, 2017
The supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has disclosed that neither him nor his deputy (Uche Mefor) approved the commencement of live broadcasts of Radio Biafra slated for Sunday in the United States of America.

Kanu, who is currently in detention in Kuje prison for treason over the formation of IPOB, establishment of Radio Biafra, and his call for a sovereign Biafran state, said this through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in a telephone conversation with the media on Sunday.

According to the IPOB leader, he was aware but did not give permission for the launch.

“Radio Biafra has approval and authorizat to set up in America according to the U.S. laws, But neither me nor my deputy, Uche Mefor, gave approval for it to go on air today in America,” he stated.

It could be recalled that Radio Biafra was slated to go on air live in the U.S. today as was disclosed by Leonard Anemene, a leader of the organisation, in a statement issued on Friday.

Anemene noted that if not for some challenges, the project would have been out earlier. He,however, failed to disclose the exact location where the station will be operating from.

Apostle Johnson Suleman, Omega Fire Ministries General Overseer, has slammed N1bn damages on Festus Keyamo, lawyer to Miss Stephanie Otobo.

Miss Otobo is the lady who alleged that she had an affair with the cleric.

The Church, however, defended Suleman saying that he was never involved in an “amorous relationship” as claimed by with Otobo.

The Church also called Keyamo a “serial blackmailer” for defending the lady who has been arrested by police for allegedly trying to blackmail the preacher, by demanding N500 million from.

Below is the letter by Suleman’s lawyer.

Festus Keyamo Esq,
Festus Keyamo Chambers
Anthony Village,
Maryland, Lagos.

Sir,

ALLEGATION OF PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT AND UNETHICAL PRACTICES

Sequel to our letter to you dated 6th March, 2017 we have observed with shock and dismay your deliberate and relentless efforts to malign and convict our client through media trial.

By your relentless media campaign, you are conducting yourself in a manner inconsistent with S.1 of the Rules of Professional Conduct For Legal Practitioners 2007. Instead of gathering your facts and evidence before a court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication you have cleverly resorted to blackmail and intimidation of our client through the media-both traditional and social media. In short, you have threatened and indeed executed your threat of conjuring, manufacturing and synthesizing bogus and unverifiable exhibits in the social media and newspapers, all with a view to poison public opinion against our client and reduce his esteem and reputation in the eye of any reasonable man. Your attitude is also to ambush a fair trial while litigation is anticipated. This is contrary to S.33 of the Rules of Professional Conduct For Legal Practitioners 2007.

In the Punch newspapers of Tuesday, March 7, 2017 Vol. 41 No 21,388 page 10 you were quoted in an interview threatening to “release more bullets.” You said your client under your supervision will be organizing a world press conference and “we will begin to release bullets.”

Furthermore, you grossly and recklessly maligned our client, saying, “these men of God are not what they claim to be, we have a duty to protect the public. Many of them are fake and fraudsters. You will see the video very soon in the next few minutes.” True to your threat of trial publicity stunts, the video clips have flooded the social media networks.

We believe your conduct is inconsistent with the virtues and rules of conduct of the legal profession. It smacks of indiscipline and disdain for the judicial process. Therefore, we demand a retraction of all your press statements and an apology to be published in the major social media networks and Punch newspapers.

Also, we demand a compensation of One Billion Naira for all the injuries inflicted on our client. We expect you to meet our demands within seven days from the date above written

TAKE NOTICE that we shall drag you before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for infamous conduct, if you fail to so do.

Yours faithfully,
Osa Director Esq
For: OSA Director & Co.

BusinessOpinion - Paypal Can Solve Nigerian Forex Issue by 20% - 30% - Facebook User by ijebuloaded(op): 12:51pm On Mar 04, 2017
I was in a bank couple of years back to get some dollars of which I was told they had none that i should patronize those mallams. Was about going when the bank staff called and said she can actually link me up with a trusted mallam so i wouldn't got scammed with fake currencies.Told her no wahala and she called the mallam, within a blink, he showed up (as if he's inside the banking hall). To my greatest surprise, they sold to the mallam so he can resell to me.I was vexed and angrily left the bank premises without buying. If Nigeria government accept PayPal proposal and we can receive payments, that's enough to solve forex issue by 20% - 30% i think. Our banks already failed us, they prefer selling to the BDC guys since they always get commission better than the normal bank rates.Who get Prof Osinbajo direct line abeg?

PoliticsI Don’t Know My True Age – Obasanjo by ijebuloaded(op): 5:18pm On Mar 02, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday admitted he did not know his true age.

He said his late mother merely told him she gave birth to him on a market day.

Mr. Obasanjo said this on Thursday at the 2017 International Youth Variety Day and Public Presentation of Olusegun Obasanjo’s Books for Children, as part of programmes for his 80th birthday.

The programme, organised by the Centre for Human Security with the theme, Presidential Libraries Will Reduce Leadership Deficit in Africa, held at theater hall of the Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

Mr. Obasanjo said when he was growing up he had the challenge of knowing his real date of birth, because his parents were complete illiterates.

“At early stage in my life, I had the challenge of knowing my date of birth, and my peers always asked, while in return I persisted in asking my mother, who was an illiterate and had no records,” he said.

The former president added that when he continued to put pressure on his mother, the result he was given by his mother was that, she gave birth to him on Ifo village market day.

“When I continued to put pressure on my mother, she told me that she was preparing to go to market on the said day, and went into labour, and before others could return from the market, she had given birth to me,” Mr. Obasanjo said.

The former leader said he arrived at his current age when he considered that when he considered the ages of some of peers at the time.

“I’m not as lucky as some of my peers who know the dates of their birth. What matters to me is that I have chosen a date. If I don’t even know the exact date of my birth, at least I know my age group,” he emphasised.

The former president also talked about morality in the society, lamenting that the era of genuine morality was fading out, but need to be revive in the interest of all and sundry.

“When we were growing up, if people doubt the source of your wealth, you will ostracised. If your father goes out every night, the conclusion would be that your father is a thief, and if a family is seen and known to have engaged in crimes, community will keep distance from such family. All those values are gone, and how do we bring them back,” he said.

On the Presidential Library, Mr. Obasanjo said its benefits would be for both the young and the old.
