Politics / Pastor Tunde Bakare Blasts New APC Party, says "They Are Bunch Of Looters" by IjeomaObasi: 10:45am On Aug 16, 2013
The former running mate to General Buhari blasts the member of All Progressives Congress calling them bunch of looters.

Tunde Bakare claims most of the member in this new party are even richer than their states after looting them dry.

Excerpts

You are not sure if you will participate in the 2015 elections?

With who? The collection of rogues, right, left and central?

Not even with the progressives?

Who are the progressives in Nigeria; mention their names? Are you persuaded that they are progressives, progressive where, taking you where?

The progressives who formed the All Progressive Congress (APC)

If the devil becomes a pastor, Nigerians will attend his church, because they don’t know the true church and they cannot distinguish it from the synagogue of satan.

Some of these governors are far richer than their states, because they are looting their states dry, Tunde Bakare concluded.

Politics / I Can Talk To Boko Haram – Orji Kalu by IjeomaObasi: 3:17pm On Jun 07, 2013
Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has told the Federal Government that he can have direct talks with the insurgent group Boko Haram, saying that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration is “playing to the media and not the problem” in its approach. Kalu said he is the right person to act as the intermediary with the group that has killed thousands of Nigerians since 2009.

His call for negotiations comes as the U.S. government announced a $23 million reward for the capture of the militants’ leader, Abubakar Shekau. Kalu told The Washington Times, “There is a smarter, more effective way to keep the Boko Haram from growing into a force that will tear Nigeria apart but so far, the government is playing to the media and not the problem.” He is therefore advocating a government campaign to win the hearts and minds of people in the poorer, northern areas of the country where Boko Haram operates, which he believes is essential in stopping the bloodshed that has claimed more than 10,000 lives.

Politics / Boko-Haram Recruiter Arrested In Maiduguri by IjeomaObasi: 4:23pm On Jun 05, 2013
A major recruiter for Boko Haram was arrested in Maiduguri, the military said.
The Nigerian military said on Wednesday that it has dislodged all the terrorist camps operated by the Boko Haram in some areas of Yobe State and arrested 49 members of the sect in various operations in the state.
The military also said many Boko Haram members were fleeing to neighbouring Niger Republic through Nigeria’s porous borders.
The interior ministry had said in May that Nigeria had about 1,500 illegal borders that are poorly manned.
In a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, the military said the suspects were arrested in various locations in the state by the Joint Task Force following a tip off by some locals.
Various weapons including AK 47rifles, locally made pistols, and ammunition were recovered by the troops during the operation in Rugan Fulani, Arikime, Afghanistan and Ngandu villages.
The JTF team led by B.E. Inyang said all terrorist camps had been dislodged while some of the terrorists fled towards Niger Republic.
It, however, said some criminals still terrorise the state under the guise of Boko Haram.
“The DHQ team was also informed of a trend whereby some particular crimes have now taken the place of terrorism as the criminals now resort to brigandage, robbery and attempted assassination of business rivals,” Mr. Olukolade said
Mr. Olukolade assured residents of Yobe of safety of lives and property and encouraged citizens with vital information to provide the soldiers with them as they rid the state of the insurgents.
Success in Borno too
Mr. Olukolade also said a key terrorist who specializes in recruiting young men into the Boko Haram has been apprehended by troops in Maiduguri following a tip off.
He said the suspect, who allegedly also watches over the insurgents’ armoury, was arrested in one of the cordon and search operations by the Special Forces.
The soldiers also arrested another group of 5 insurgents, all from Niger Republic. They were arrested when troops stormed their hideout at Mallam Fatori as they attempted to escape in two Toyota Cruiser Jeeps, Mr. Olukolade said.
He said the soldiers have continued to patrol the notorious Sambisa forest and are also cordoning the Alou forest and Gwoza Hills.
“More abandoned vehicles, weapons and other items are being recovered in the camps of the insurgents,” he said.
He listed some of the recovered arms as rifles, double barrel guns, various charms and amulets, machine guns, as well as pairs of camouflage uniforms, bows and quiver and assorted rifle magazine. Others are handset, walkie talkie, car number plates and some food items.
“Abandoned vehicles recovered include a Golf Car, a Honda, Customs Pickup Van, Honda (2003 Model) and a Volkswagen Monte Carlo,” the military spokesman said.
Mr. Olukolade said police stations are now being reopened in some parts of Borno State.
“At Kirenowa, detachments of Police Anti-Terrorist unit have been deployed to complement security in the area,” he said.
The spokesman said the defence headquarters had organised a tour of the operational areas of the JTF for selected local and foreign Journalists. He said the tour is to ensure that “the media have a first-hand information on the situation in the operational areas.”
The federal government officially declared the Boko Haram as terrorists on Tuesday.

”Boko Haram is like a bad tree. To kill it, it must be uprooted, instead of trimming its branches. The measures announced by President Jonathan on Tuesday will not deliver the killer punch to this reprehensible sect. There is need to think out of the box,” it said
just imagine a step which a vast majority of Nigerians have yearned for that finally came and all of a sudden, a character jumps out from nowhere to criticize a decision that was taken in the interest of peace. so what makes Lai Mohammed think that the resolution for Emergency rule came within the box. moreover, since he thinks outside the box, what is his own take on this issue. i am beginning to question the sanity of Lai Mohammed.

he only acted in accordance to the constitution which did not empower him to remove any elected governor. honestly, it was a right step in the right direction.
barroymails: Well done, Mr. President, on the declaration of this partial state of emergency in three states. Responsible Nigerians had, however, expected full state of emergency in all the affected states. I am unable to understand how the governors and all other political office holders in the affected states could continue to perform their constitutional responsibilities in an emergency regime. All the political office holders ought to give way for the military to return the affected war zones to the path of peace. It appears that Mr. President acted out of fear as he most probably did not want to be criticized by the garrulous opposition leaders and the sponsors/promoters of Boko Haram. Poor him!

Politics / Addressing The Menance Of Fulani Herdsmen by IjeomaObasi: 3:58pm On May 14, 2013
THE menace of herdsmen all over Nigeria is spreading like wildfire. The consequences are igniting conflicts in the country. Hardly a day passes without their unsavoury activities being reported in the media.

From Benue to Imo, Rivers to Delta and from Ogun to Oyo States, the story is almost the same. Cattle minders simply run their livestock through farmlands, all year round; they graze on them and destroy what they cannot eat, consigning farmers and host communities to starvation and poverty.

Attempts by these farmers to protest the activities of these rampaging vandals often end in bloodshed because the cattle rearers are always armed with sophisticated assault rifles such as AK 47. They have moved from bows, arrows and daggers of a few decades back.

Apart from damaging farmlands, they also invade villages, kill and steal as well as rape women. Reports to the law enforcement agencies often fall on deaf ears, and villagers and their traditional rulers are forced to cry out to state governors for protection with little succour.

These herdsmen clearly violate the African concept of cohabitation between guests and hosts, which says, “May my visitor never bring me harm, and on his way home may he never develop a hunchback”. Communities are being forced to fight in the absence of protection from the authorities. They are arming their youth vigilantes with equally dangerous weapons to fight back.
Farmers and herdsmen are important to the economy. Both should co-exist symbiotically. That has been the arrangement for ages. The new tendency for the nomads to exhibit terrorist and invasive traits must be curbed before it gets worse.

It is time we designed cattle grazing pathways all over the country or better still, reorient the animal farmers to modern options and confine their animals to designated camps. If they insist on being nomads, they must stay away from farms and commit themselves to the rule of civilised conduct and the law.

The National Assembly made a feeble effort at a grazing pathway law. It should be concluded. We are mindful of the dangers and possibilities of religious terrorists infiltrating new areas of the country as rogue herdsmen to extend their bloody campaigns.

Politics / AFGHAN President Warns Boko Haram To Stop Perpetuating Evil In The Name Of Islam by IjeomaObasi: 3:34pm On May 06, 2013
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has advised Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria to embrace peace.
Karzai gave the advice when Nigeria’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Dauda Danladi, presented his letters of credence in Kabul, the Afghan capital recently.

“Boko Haram should stop burning schools, Mosques, Churches in the name of Islam. You should not destroy your country if you are true Muslims. You should protect lives because in Islam if you kill one, it is as if you have killed the whole of humanity and if you save life, it is as if you have saved the whole of humanity” he was quoted in a statement from the Nigerian Embassy in Pakistan.

i am not trying to cover GEJs actions but i believe the president has not tried to copy the US. if you ask me, he performed an obligatory role as the head of government and as empowered by the constitution guiding the country.
Guk: No basis for comparison. Because USA President did something does not mean we should copy hook line and sinker & moreso circumstances differ.

The debate on Alams need not be elongated as the fact remains that (1) He is a wanted Fugitive as he jumped bail in UK & (2) As reported by the Metropolitan Police in UK, 1 million pounds sterling in cash was found in his house and he was facing money laundering charges before he absconded. He is neither a political or persecuted person in UK, he is a FUGITIVE & one day, the long hand of the law will pick him as UK police cannot keep holding on to 1 million pounds forever without a conclusion.

Pardoning a FUGITIVE has no place in any civilised part of the world except in banana republics

Politics / Kano Explosions: Senators Are Talking Nonsense From Abuja – Kwankwaso by IjeomaObasi: 10:16am On Mar 22, 2013
Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has berated Nigerian senators over their stance on this Monday’s bomb explosion in Kano. The senators had accused him of indifference.
But the governor spoke from Kano yesterday, shortly after receiving the federal government delegation led by the minister of interior, Comrade Abba Moro. The members of the delegation were on a sympathy visit to the governor.

Kwanakwaso said, “They are just senators sitting in Abuja and they don’t know anything but they have to speak rubbish and absolute nonsense.

“Senators in Abuja felt they are big and mightier. Abuja only they know. They don’t know what is happening in their states or constituencies. If there is kidnapping, militancy or bomb blast in their home state they seek refuge in their castles in Abuja.”

Senator Uche Chukumerije and Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya had accused him of being nonchalant and that he failed to personally sympathise with the victims’ families.

Chukumerije and Gaya had claimed that 80 per cent of those who died were Igbo and 20 per cent from the other parts of the country.

Governor Kwankwaso called on the senators and members of the House of Representatives to pay a visit to Kano like the federal government did and witness events on the ground. He asked the electorate to ensure that, in the next election, they elect credible senators unlike the present ones who don’t wish good for the country and the sustenance of peace and oneness of the nation. “We are working round the clock to ensure there is peace in Kano State and we shall continue with the good work for the betterment of the state,” Kwankwaso added.

Moro commended the traditional rulers, the security initiative of Kwankwaso and his desire to have peace in the state. He said, “Clearly today is the demonstration of federal government’s intensified collaborative effort with the state government and the people of Nigeria to avoid the said wanton destruction of lives and property in the south.”

He said that the federal government would help in improving the security situation in the state.

Politics / Kano Attack: 90% Of Northern Politicians Are Members Of Boko Haram – CAN by IjeomaObasi: 11:33am On Mar 19, 2013
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has reacted to the Monday car park attack in Kano, saying it has exposed the hypocrisy of those canvassing for amnesty for the dreaded Boko Haram members, DailyPost can report.

The association also called for the intervention of the international community to “deal with suspects once and for all.”

The Public Relations Officer of CAN in the 19 Northern States and Abuja, Mr. Sunny Oibe, alleged that 90 per cent of politicians in the North were members of the sect.

He said, “We commiserate with families of the people who lost their loved ones and they should take solace in God, who is going to fight on their behalf.

“The latest attack has exposed the hypocrisy of the people calling for amnesty for Boko Haram members. It is surprising that they are demanding amnesty for people, who have been killing innocent citizens on daily basis.

“We are sad about it and the latest attack goes to show that they are not ready for any ceasefire. All the people calling for amnesty are part of these problems because they are shielding these people and almost 90 percent of core northern politicians are members of this Boko Haram.”

The Arewa Consultative Forum, a Northern socio-political group, has described the Monday bomb blasts in Kano as sad and shocking.

ACF in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, on Monday condemned the attack, saying that it was uncalled for.

The statement affirms that, “The attacks at the New Road, Kano Motor Park, Sabon Gari, today is shocking and uncalled, for, considering the pleas by Nigerians and governments that those engaged in violent killings should for purpose of addressing their concerns lay their arms and embrace constructive dialogue.

Also speaking, a civil rights activist, Mallam Shehu Sani, said the attack was a sign that government was not competent enough to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

He added that government should commence meaningful dialogue with aggrieved parties without hesitation.

Executive Director, Civil Societies Legislative and Advocacy Centre, Auwual Musa, said the Kano blasts were condemnable.

Musa said, “All of these security challenges are diversionary. Insane corruption by successive administrations is responsible for what we are seeing now.

“Sadly, like it or not, there are those who are profiting from this mindless bloodletting, they will answer to God almighty on the day of judgment.

“The bomb blast in Kano today is condemnable and an act against God and all humanity.”

Over 60 people were on Monday killed in an explosion that hit a car-park in Kano.
