Hi People.

Just received a reply from Zenithsec concerning opening a stockbroking account with them. I have copied and pasted the reply below.

Good Morning Sir,

Am very sorry sir for not replying your mail immediately.

Concerning our last discussion, you can only operate such account if its a partnership business hence the company must be registered.Once the company is registered and you are still interested in opening the account then we can open a corporate account for you.The requirement for opening the account is as follow:

1.Certificate of incorporation (Original must be sighted).

2. MEmorandum and Articles of Association (certified true copy) by the Registrar of companies and a director of the company.

3. Board resolution appointing Zenith Securities Ltd as the company's stockbroker/fund managers and this must include names of all signatories to the account and directors of the company in attendance. This must be executed under company seal.

Thank You.

Ese.
In this regard I am wondering what the next best step would be.

I will still be going to Naij later this month. I have been quite busy writing some professional exams so I do apologise for not keeping the thread alive plus the stockbrokers themselves were not very quick in replying.

I am wondering if going with Frankiriri is not going to be the best route IF WE INTEND TO TAKE A JOINT POSITION IN THE FIRST BANK PO.

@ Frankiriri
How many people do you have on board and How much has been raised? What is the minimum, average, maximum and mandatory price for inclusion in your club? What is your target for the club for the First bank PO?

Hey peeps !!!!

Taking a holiday (again) in Nigeria !! Thank God !!

I was just wondering the last time I went it was like Lagos was one of those south Asia countries (sex tourism). Everything in Naij was geared towards the gender war. Boys trying to get laid and girls trying to get paid, Or maybe it was the places I hung out?

So this time I wanna do it right. So please please please could you good folks recommend places where a guy can hang out in Naij.

@angel101
I beg to disagree with you.
Success is inherent ie. it is 'inside' each and everyone of us. Forget the tribalism argument. What somebody does to you or does not do for you is just by the way.
You dont believe me? Ask yourself, do people succeed under the so called bad conditions in Nigeria. Are there millionaires who count their money in dollars and pound? Do they live outside the effects of your so called tribalism?
The simple answer is yes.

So that should be your goal - Success against all ODDS.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said amongst many things - If a Man make a better mouse trap, the world will beat a path to his door step. Whatever you do, even if it be sweeping the streets do it so well that even the angels above would hail and say what a wonderful street sweeper you are.

The world it also is said stands aside for a man who knows where he is going.

Forget unfruitful pursuits - You can not change the world. You can only change YOUR WORLD.

Individual and Personal emancipation is the secret.

What are you doing with the little you have? That is the only question you have to answer.

@Topic

My idea of progress is not 'going online' and accusing many people of the mistakes they made (or I think they made).

My idea of progress is not debating the often incendiary issues of tribalism, marginalisation and regional militancy.

My idea of progress is not 'judging' the other man for his actions when I dont know the shoes he is wearing or the journey he has been on to get where he is.

My idea of progress is not making everybody see and agree to my point of view but making everybody move in an agreed progressive direction.

My idea of progress is personal.
It is about personal EMANCIPATION.
It is about being my own most passionate critic.
It is about looking at where I have been and where I want to go then making plans on how to get there.
It is about rationalising my contribution to humanity and taking stock of what I have done with what life and humanity have given.

I believe that any discussions on progress in Nigeria should be about everybody taking stock of themselves and their contributions to the Nation.

NOT the trend some people have adopted (even) on this thread.

Hi.
Starting a business and getting a business name are very important pursuits.
Your business has its core focus, its target market, core competencies and competitive advantage etc.
Your Business name is very important because that is often what your prospective customers first come into contact with and it is part of your marketing communication.
Picking a business name can be as easy as getting something off the top of your head or as detailed as drawing up a branding and integrated marketing communications plan.

From the information you have given it is hard to advise you professionally about choosing a business name because -

There has to be a philosophy behind your business name.

@McKren
I have never been one to blame my failures and shortcomings on other MEN like me. My DESTINY is in my hands as given by GOD.

Now you said -

McKren:
@Ijogbon

You see forget your spin, 1the Presidency had a policy of wanting Ehindero's second in command to take over and chose to bypass him for obvious reasons. That is not fair.

2There is no point talking about him not being Igbo enough. Well if you want to play it that way then let me inform you if you go to Mike Okiro's village Ndoni or Ikwere in Rivers State and call them Igbos you may not come back alive.

3That is a fallout of the blackmail and cold war, the IBBs, Gusaus and Danjumas have over the years ochestrated against the Igbos in the South East.

Trust me this is just a continuation of that cold war and I have a feeling that those who prevented Ekwueme from being President in 1999 because the Igbo man must never be trusted4 and chose to install OBJ who as it were then was in Prison could still be those behind this move.

When will the Spin masters go to rest so that we can truly be one people.

Just look at it this way, amongst the heir to the post of IGP, ONOVO was most qualified, had 5years left in his service, higher than Okiro on the police strata and yet younger than him in age. What is there reason for edging him out when the Presidency had already announced that second in command should take overhuhhuh
I will answer thus:

please see my posting on this link - https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-56575.0.html#msg1163921

1. In reply to your point (marked 1 in the quote) - The presidency 'had' a policy ? Which presidency? the new one or the presidency as an office? In any case, if the presidency had a policy and the presidency 'changed' its policy that is the presidency's perogative. Secondly, since when did Life become fair? Chance favours the prepared they say.

2. My posting on the link above should argue this point to a conclusion.

3. I don't think your blaming Northerners or anyone else for the failings in the south-east gives the Igbo spirit of taking their destiny in their hands any respect (See my very first statement on this reply). The problems between the Igbos politically and socially precede the conception of the above named 'gentlemen'. Ekwueme for president ? Please spare me. Some school children don't even know who that is. What does he stand for? Is he a democrat, republican, technocrat, looter, crony, ally? My point is that - If you don't stand for anything you will fall for anything. I am a Nigerian and Old enough, I know what IBB stood for, Abacha same, OBJ, Chinua Achebe, Soludo, Okonjo-Iweala etc. But pray tell what does Ekwueme represent. He had his chance - He blew it !

As I believe the appointment of Okiro was a deft diplomatic and strategic move:

1. He was born in Ibo land and has served severally in ibo land. So should be a good choice for Igbos.

2. He is from the Niger delta. So he can bring his expertise while serving there and ties of his roots to bear on the security situation in the country.

3. He is a well known Nigerian who has served in all parts of the country and performed.

Simple.

The tribal slant to proactive discussions on this forum is getting very boring.

We should be celebrating the fact that NIGERIANS were given the chance to serve their fatherland and were given the resources and the support to do so.

If you are given the chance to serve your country you should do it with pride and integrity. If you choose to serve yourself, your tribe, your family or any other so constituted constituent the shame is on you.

The list of people who served their country with Pride and Integrity in the past political dispensation is long and worthy of pride. And includes every type of persons, ALL Nigerians.

ryu11:
your choice, however i don't think it is original, it's the name of a TV show. you might as well name it 'Paris Hilton decors' if you want something that sounds familiar, she is the rave at the moment. Originally is important, it gives an added touch of class. No one cherishes common stuff. Dig deep into Creativity.
My point exactly !!!
The name of a well known TV show. - With globalisation, post modernism and the presense of many foreigners (Who will form the majority of a wealthy PH market) the name of a popular TV show is something easily remembered and understood.
The name also tells what the business does - It creates Bold interior designs and it creates interiors that are beautiful, simple. You can even feign ignorance of the TV show just to give your businessname more mystery.
Originality and the personal touch comes in the inTriorz bit of the name which i think is just as important as the main part. It shows innovation, creativity, ingenuity and an identity in a business where all these attributes are competitive advantages.
Plus, your marketing communications, adverts, radio jingles etc come ready made (Exploit the TV show and its characters).
Doing all of this LEGALLY of course!!!!

Believe me, this consult is worth thousands of pounds GBP ask any chartered marketer. I could get cautioned.

I do wish I could say 'I see where you are coming from' but the truth of the matter is that all those brands you have mentioned have expended immense resources to get where they are at the moment. Time and millions of dollars !!!! I am dead sure our dear nynlicious has no such resources nor the desire to commit them to building the brand she is seeking if she did have such resources. Abi do you nyn ? I am free for hire O!!! Small retention fee grin

Choosing a business name is contained in the brand identification portion of a Brands anatomy and is very dependent on perception and positioning in the customers mind. You position your brand in the customers mind.
Now you can either do this by associating your product with something that is already in that mind (eg 'I cant believe its not butter' - in the UK, easyjet, or the very many examples of brand extention evident in the world - virginmedia, virginatlantic etc
Or you can decide to foist your brand into the collective memory of your customers. Now considering that study shows that on average, in order to remember a product or service a person must come into contact with communication about that product 26times. Multiply this by the number of customers you are targeting multiplied by the cost of communicating once with each customer. I dare say you will be looking at no less than N 50 million to explain to your market what the meaning of Enkt is.
For a small and medium scale enterprise such as we are discussing here, the best path is the first and hence my suggestion of The Bold and The BeautifulinTriorz as the business name. It satisfies all the text book requirements on the issue and even if I say so myself - It is a dang good name for an interior decorator!

Hey, Bigboy and Frankiriri,

As promised I called the stockbrokers (Zenithsec. and cashcraft) and the discussions were a little fruitful. They have a 'joint account' arrangement and a 'family account' which I didnt understand too well but Zenith securities promised to send me something in my email to better understand.
Cashcraft I will have to call again tomorrow.

It is understandable that we have to register the 'organisation' but as at the last time I checked registering a business in Nigeria was not a walk in the park.

What we need is an arrangement that will protect all concerned. Maybe something everybody can sign (for now) and get up and running. I dont know how much time we have or how soon everybody wants this thing up and running but I think the sooner the better.

If we can get the stockbrokers to bear the 'organisational' burden for now while we get organised that will be beautiful.

I find it quite boring that every thread on this forum nowadays is always turned into a free for all arena. Regarding your reply to SOJ I really didnt think it was called for, you should know better. He didnt say anything that was not helpful. I think an apology is in order.

Regarding your business name -

1) In PH? One of my favourite towns, pitakwa !
I know for a fact that the PH crowd is very class based but the good thing is that the town is full of young people. So you need a contemporary name, something they will easily recognise. Something that will remind them of something.
2) Young working class - that is definitely the PH market.

I would suggest you take something from TV or films.

I would strongly recommend - THE BOLD and THE BEAUTIFULin-T-riorz
Apart from being easily remembered it will help your marketing communications if your design is indeed BOLD and BEAUTIFUL.

I sent out that post suggesting contacting frankiriri for the people in Naij.

I know we might run into some administrative glitches that is why I am recommending looking at what Frank has done already.
When ppl come together to put their money in some venture, more often than not it is a good idea to have some sort of framework guiding actions. We need bank accounts, stockbrokers accounts etc.
I am sure that stockbroking firms in Naij will have some arrangement to encourage the sort of thing we are trying to do but no stockbroker has volunteered info here yet. I am in London so there is not much I can do,,,,,,,,wait a minute how about calling the stockbrokers directly from here and finding out talking to myself.
I think I'll do just that. I'll do it tomorrow and let the house know what they say.

I will call you tomorrow so we can arrange a meet for anyone who is interested in London. I just want to be able to see everyone who sends an email.

Dangote, Otedola acquire Kaduna Refinery
E-MAIL THIS   PRINT THIS   Most Viewed

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) yesterday formally handed over both Port-Harcourt Refinery and Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) to Bluestar Oil services to break the jinx over the sale of the refineries since 2003.
Kaduna Refinery was sold to Bluestar for $160-million (N20.5-billion), an increase of $58-million (N7.4-billion) over the offer of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

The sale of Kaduna Refinery concluded at the weekend brought to two the number of mega-enterprises sold to Bluestar Oil services, a consortium promoted by Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Transcorp plc.

The sale was among the last-minute approvals of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) at the twilight of the Obasanjo administration.

The CNPC offered $102-million (N13-billion) for 51 percent of the Kaduna Refinery at the financial bidding about a fortnight ago, but the BPE said the offer was below the reserved price of the enterprise.

Irene Chigbue, director-general, BPE, confirmed the sale of Kaduna Refinery at the handing over of the enterprises and five others in Abuja yesterday.

Other enterprises handed over by the BPE include Izom Bricks and Clay Products to Continental Project and Supplies Company Ltd, Onigbolo Cement to Dangote Industries, and Steyr Nigeria Ltd, Bauchi to Scintilla Prime Investments Ltd.

Others are Ihechiowa Oil Palm, Abia State to Omen International Ltd and Anammco Enugu to G.U Okeke and sons.

"Blue Star Oil Services Consortium also took up the challenge of buying into the KPRC with an offer price of $160-million for 51 percent equity; an amount exceeding the $102-million (N13-billion) revised offer by China National Petroleum Corporation.

"The Consortium has already paid the full financial consideration for KPRC. Let me also emphasise that Bluestar Oil Services Consortium is bound by the conditions of sale, especially with respect to the time period mutually agreed for the rehabilitation and activation of KRPC. This, of course, is in addition to other requirements that have been negotiated by both parties for both refineries."

At the handing over, she said the journey had been on for sometime, adding that both transactions were complex because of the emotional attachments of Nigerians to them.

"China was given oil bloc as incentive because of the difficulty in the Kaduna Refinery, which is mainly its location with no access to water and port facilities as well as vandalisation.

" China brought poor financial bid which we presented to the government and when Bluestar came forward with a bid offer of $160-million, we equally sent it to the government and it was approved to operate the Kaduna Refinery.

"Government was persuaded to sell to Bluestar because of the initial concept of integrating both refineries for synergy.

"We have to let our Chinese investors know the huge funds required to keep the refineries in good shape and so we could not just leave it like that to continue to be in their present states," Chigbue added.

She said promoters of Bluestar had assured that they would in no distant time turn the refineries around so that they would be attractive should government decide to sell its remaining 49 percent in the two refineries.

It would be recalled that as part of the bilateral cooperation with the Republic of China, President Obasanjo had directed the setting up the Technical Working Team under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Petroleum & Energy (now Ministry of Energy) to review the investment proposal submitted by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for Kaduna refinery

Following review of CNPC’s proposals and identification of possible areas of cooperation, the president granted approval to enter into negotiation of technical and commercial terms of the integrated package with the CNPC in respect of oil blocs indicated by the CNPC and core investor ownership of the KRPC.

The president also approved that the transaction should be opened up to other prospective investors to enhance competitiveness of the process. The BPE engaged Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) to advise goverment on the core investor sale of the KRPC to the CNPC as part of an integrated investment package covering upstream and downstream assets, in line with the strategic co-operation between Nigeria and the Republic of China.

A Web-based data room was activated and access granted to prospective bidders after signing of non-disclosure agreement with them. They conducted site visits in December 2005 and January 2006. In June 2006, bidding documents (including information memorandum and draft Share Purchase Agreements) were circulated to prospective bidders. But none of the other bidders (PII of India and Essar of India) submitted bids.

The CNPC conducted a detailed due diligence on the KRPC between October 17 and November 4 2006, prior to submission of bid for KRPC. At the bids opening on May 17, 2007, it offered to pay a revised offer price of $102-million, which was below the reserve price.

Consideration of Dangote for the refinery, which only the Chinese bidded for as at when the financial bid was conducted, might have been in furtherance of the right of refusal granted him by the presidency.

President Obasanjo had granted Dangote right of refusal in the sale of three major government projects. They are the refineries, an energy project, and a fertiser plant.

Dangote has 55 percent controlling shares in Bluestar; Zennon Oil holds 25 percent; Rivers State has 15 percent, and Transcorp, the remaining 5 percent. Under the privatisation programme of the outgoing administration, Dangote seems to be favoured, having acquired several mega enterprises.

Some of the state enterprises acquired by Dangote under the Obasanjo administration are Benue Cement Company plc, Gboko, Markurdi, Onigbolo Cement, Obajana Cement, Save Sugar, and Bacita Sugar.

A business Idea is just that - a business idea.

If you have a business idea I would say please feel free to share it on this forum because even if people know your idea the chances that they will steal it and be able to take advantage of it to your detriment is quite slim for good ideas.

What makes an idea successful is its competitive advantage, comprising of competents (the people who manage the idea), competencies (the skills and discipline of these people) and capabilities as you can all see these are inherent in the people.

Putting your idea here makes it easily accessible to people who would never have heard about it. If you say 'lets chat on email' that is a waste of time for people like me because I would rather you put this idea up here where I can easily analyse it and get feedback from other forum members. That is the essense of a forum.

What makes you think that after chatting with me on email I can not still steal your idea? Or even when the idea is fully set up I can not sack you?

Business is a risk, and many successful ideas are very simple. It is the combination of opportunity, people and resources that make them succeed. As i see it any one posting here will probably only have one so it is a gamble worth taking.

In this generation of Nigerians we still have people who dont understand the intrecacies of politics and business.

1) I agree wholeheartedly with you that Dangote is a thief (rolls eyes) and he is fronting for OBJ. OK. Are you happy now? Fine.
Answer - At least the money is in Nigeria not in a swiss account making money for the swiss. The refinery is in Nigeria and not in Gambia or is it Sierra Leone making petrol from OUR crude oil illegally acquired and then sold back to us at a premium!!! (Abacha did that yes!!! Unipetrol now owns the refinery). If Nigerians want they can reclaim the refinery, boycot its products and ruin it or bomb it as I am sure your Niger delta brothers are planning!

2) I also agree that the Refinery was sold to Dangote and Otedola thru 'man-know-man'.
Answer - Pray tell me, did you not read that they were the HIGHEST BIDDERS? Abi why have the people who bid higher than them and didnt win not come forward?
