Crime › 'Nnewi Deities Exposed Kidnapper Evans, Neutralised His Charms’ by ijustdey(op): 12:32pm On Jun 16, 2017 |
New revelations have emerged on why the police were able to arrest notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudemeje George Onwuamadike alias Evans last Saturday after a seven-year hunt.
It was gathered that Nnewi monarch and the traditional council two weeks ago, went round all the communities in Nnewi with their deities to curse those kidnapping prominent sons/daughters of the town.
The monarch was irked by the alleged kidnap of the Ikenga Nnewi (keeper of the Oracle of justice), whose abductors abandoned him on their way to a detention camp after an argument broke out among them.
According to some natives of Nnewi, the Ikenga had told the kidnappers their end was near whether they left him or not.
He was said to have gone to the monarch and told him those responsible for their plights were among them (natives), which prompted the ritual.
Despite the ritual, Evans’ native doctor in Nnewi assured him that he would never be caught. He was said to have prepared charms for him to counter the curses placed by the monarch and chiefs and told the kingpin to carry on with his life.
A native who refused to be named said: “Two days after the Igwe and his chiefs went round the communities with Ofor Nnewi (staff), a house, where the kidnappers usually held their victims hostage in the town was exposed. The house is near a prominent politician’s house but no one knew something like that was happening there.
“One afternoon, the man in charge of the house started acting like he was insane. He left the door open and that was how all the victims ran out. People saw them and the house owner was lynched after his confession.
“A lot of people were implicated in the kidnapping business of Evans and most of them were silently arrested.
It was the Igwe’s curse that led to his arrest. The Ikenga told them the day of his kidnap that if they left him, they are in trouble and if they took him with them, they would still be in trouble.
“As they were going with the man, the kidnappers started arguing and fighting among themselves, that was how they dropped him and he went to the Igwe.”
Meanwhile, in the build-up to arrested Evans, the police picked up his pregnant sister and mistress but none of them was able to implicate the kingpin.
According to a source, the sister initially claimed Evans was her boyfriend and she knew nothing about his crime until she was threatened that her baby would be born in the Police cell.
Evans’ mistress, said to be a widow with four children, refused to give him away because he has been her benefactor. The source said the woman, who lived around Okota explained that she would die of guilt if she assisted the police in arresting him.
“The woman said he has been the one taking care of her and her children and that she could not give him away. She said he usually came to her house to take her out and always gave her anything she requested. He was a good man to her and father to her children.
“Police wanted to use her to lure him but she refused to comply. She was arrested. So many people were arrested in the quest to get Evans. It was one of those picked up that told the police he had a scar on his shoulder, which he sustained from a gun injury.
“He has not stopped crying. He drinks only Eva water and has been very quiet. He has confessed that he owns a big hotel in Amuwo Odofin, a house in South Africa, Canada and other properties.
“He also said he used to live at that Igando camp and that he moved to his Magodo mansion from there. He retained the place as detention camp and used Ogechi Amadi’s name on it.
“He said his native doctor promised him that nothing would happen to him. That after Felix was arrested and the failed kidnap of the Ikenga and the curse by the Igwe, the native doctor told him nothing would happen to him. He said reports that the native doctor warned him to stay out of the Magodo house was not true. That if he had warned him, he would not have gone there.” http://thenationonlineng.net/revealed-nnewi-deities-exposed-evans-neutralised-charms/

Politics › Army Report: Senior Military Officers Denied US, UK Visas Over Rights Abuses by ijustdey(op): 6:26pm On Jun 15, 2017 |
Army exonerates self of allegationsPaul Obi in Abuja
The United States and British embassies in Nigeria has withdrawn and denied entry visa to some serving and retired Nigerian Army (NA) officers, a report of a Board of Inquiry set up by the army to investigate allegations of human rights abuses by the military in the country, has revealed.
This is even as the Nigerian Army exonerated itself over allegations in its confrontations and treatment of Boko Haram terrorists and internally displayed persons (IDPs) in its operations in the North-east, as well as members and sypathisers of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The report was presented late wednesday by the Head of the Nigerian Army Civil Relations, Maj-Gen. Nuhu Angbazo, alongside the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman.
The army had set up the Board of Inquiry to investigate the allegations contained in a series of Amnesty International reports accusing military officer of human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings during their engagements with Boko Haram and IDPs in the North-east, and member of IPOB in the South-east.
Curiously, the board members that carried out the investigation into the rights abuses were all absent at the presentation of the report by officials of army headquarters in Abuja.
Angbazo, while presenting the report, said: “You will recall that Amnesty International (AI), in their reports about the NA in the North-east, had alleged cases of arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention, torture, forced disappearance and extrajudicial executions against some senior army officers. Likewise it alleged same case against the NA regarding IPOB.
“The Board limited its investigation to the roles played by the NA during the rallies by IPOB in Aba on 9 Feb, 2016 and Onitsha on 29-30 May 2016.
“The AI alleged that on 9 Feb 2016, during a peaceful rally by IPOB at the National High School in Aba, Abia State about 17 of its members were killed and 30 injured by personnel of the NA.
“AI also alleged that it had evidence of mass extrajudicial executions by security forces, including at least 60 people shot dead in the space of 29-30 May 2016 in connection with events to mark Biafra Remembrance Day.
“The Board reviewed videos, photographs and eyewitness testimonies relating to demonstations and other gatherings of IPOB members provided by non-government and military sources.
The Board also had extensive discussions with the governors and senior government officials of Abia and Anambra States.
“The Board visited the National High School, Abia where it was alleged that members of the IPOB were shot by security forces on 9 Feb 2016.
“The Board met with the schools security man on duty on the said day (name withheld).
“The Board took note of the AI allegation that the bodies of at least 13 members of the IPOB allegedly killed at the National High School, Aba were buried in a shallow pit along the Aba-PortHarcourt expressway.
“The Board observed that there was no specific description of the location of the alleged shallow pit in the AI report.”
On the incident on May 30 2016, Angbazo stated that with regards to that incident at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church Nkpor, where AI had alleged that soldiers opened fire on worshippers in the church compound, members of the board had held individual and group discussions with the resident priest (name withheld) of the church, the chief security officer of the church and residents within the vicinity.
“The Board found that there were protests by IPOB members at Aba on 6 Feb 16 and at Onitsha on 30 May 16.
“The Board found that the IPOB protests were not peaceful and that the lives and properties of citizens in the protest areas were threatened.
“In the words of one of the governors that met with the Board ‘the IPOB may have set out to have a peaceful protest, however, criminals infiltrated their ranks and turned these protests into violent ones’.
“In particular, the board found that IPOB members converged at Onitsha on 29 May 2016 to mark the anniversary of the declaration of the Sovereign State of Biafra.
“The Board also found that the IPOB members occupied the Niger bridgehead, stopping free flow of traffic and threatened to blow it up.
“That it was the inability of the Nigeria Police to enforce law and order that led to the deployment of the military.
“The Board found that there was a joint operation of the police and the NA to contain the protesters on all the days when there were protests.
“The Board notes the statement of governors and senior officials interviews revealed that there were no reports of any killings by the military on any of the days of the protests and they had no information of 13 persons allegedly buried in a shallow grave along the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.
“The Board notes that the statement of the gateman at the National High School, Aba, who testified that he heard gunshots and stated that he saw one person fall to the ground. He could not recollect what happened to that person,” Angbazo said.
He stressed that the board also interacted with the Anambra State governor, state Commissioner of Police, State Director of DSS and some residents.
“They testified that no one was killed during the incident at Onitsha bridgehead.
However, the police report showed that 14 people were arrested on the day,” he said.
On North-East, Angbazo quoted copiously from the report of Amnesty International, stating: “The Board observed that in all AI reports on the human rights situation in Nigeria, specifically as it concerns military operations in the North-east, allegations of human rights violations were made against units, formations and personnel of the NA in general.
“However, in its report, reference above, specific mention was made against certain senior officers who Amnesty International believed should be investigated for the war crimes of murder, enforced disappearance and torture.
‘During this period, AI documented arbitrary arrests and unlawful detention of thousands of people in inhumane conditions, the deaths in custody of large numbers of detainees, and extrajudicial executions by top the command. Maj.-Gen. Ahmadu Mohammed was the Commander 7 Div from 24 Feb till 16 May (year not given).
“During this period, AI documented arbitrary arrests and unlawful detention of thousands of people in inhumane conditions, the deaths in custody of large numbers of detainees, and extrajudicial executions under his command.
“He was in charge of military operations when the military executed more than 640 detainees who escaped from Giwa barracks after a Boko Haram attack.
“Maj.-Gen. Austin O. Edokpayi was Commander of the MNJTF based in Baga from at least Apr 13 until Dec 13 (year not given), where Nigerian soldiers were responsible for arbitrary arrests and unlawful detention, the extrajudicial executions of more than 185 people on Apr 13, and death in custody at the Baga detention facility.
“Brig.-Gen. RO Bamigboye (rtd) was commander of the 21 Armoured Brigade (stationed in Giwa Barracks) from Feb 12 till Sep 13 (year not given). He was in charge of the barracks during the period when at least 5,000 detainees died in custody, and when torture and ill-treatment where used routinely.
“AI further alleged that a number of high-level military commanders should be investigated for their potential command responsibility for crimes committed by their subordinates, on the basis that they knew or should have known about the commission of the crimes and failed to take adequate action to prevent the commission of war crimes to stop the commission of war crimes, and to take all steps necessary to ensure the alleged perpetrators were brought to justice in fair trials.
“These officers are: Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, former COAS (Chief of Army Staff), Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, former CDS (Chief of Defence Staff), Air Chief Marsahl Alex Badeh, former CDS, Lt.-Gen. KTJ Minimah, COAS.”
Angbazo further revealed that the board noted despite the fact that there was no finding of human rights abuses against any serving or retired military officers by any court of law or military Board of Inquiry, at least two diplomatic missions either revoked or denied their country entry visas to a number of senior officers who held command responsibilities during the military operations in the North-east.
The committee also exonerated the army of any alleged sexual abuse of IDPs in the North-east, he added.
Angbazo also revealed that these allegations led to the withdrawal and denial of U.S. and UK visas to some serving and retired senior officers.
“There were cases of officers whose names did not appear in the allegation but were also denied visas.
“AHQ (army headquarters) subsequently conducted an investigation and disseminated the reports to all relevant authorities, including the U.S. authorities through the DA (defence attaché) Washington.
“The U.S. however conveyed its dissatisfaction with the report and requested that a more comprehensive inquiry be conducted.
“Thus a Special BOI (Board of Inquiry) was constituted to investigate the allegations,” Angbazo disclosed.
The panel had Maj.-Gen. AT Jibrin (rtd.) as president. Other members included Mr. Olawale Fapohunda, Col. PC Izukanne (rtd.), Mr. Tony Ojukwu, Brig.-Gen. A Dadan-Garba (rtd.), Brig.-Gen. OL Olayinka, Col. LB Mohammed, Col. UM Wambai and Lt.-Col. “ Etuk has been dismissed by the police in relation to the rape case of the 15 years old school girl . He was still having about two or three years to retirement.
“ I think this is the best the force can do to instil discipline in the among the cops, ” he said.

“But when I could not bear the pains any longer as blood was running out of my private part, he quickly took me into the vehicle and drove to the station , where he detained me from Thursday till Saturday. It was my uncle, Dr . Ime Stephen that came from Abuja and bailed me out with N10,000, ” she said.

Crime › 2 Men Rape 9-Year-Old Boy In Maiduguri, Give Him N100, N50 by ijustdey(op): 2:27pm On Jun 14, 2017 |
The father of a 9-year-old boy has cried out for help after two men allegedly lured his son with N100 and raped him several times in Gwange ward of Maiduguri in Borno State.
The father, Malam Jubrin, said the incident occurred last month when he noticed that his son had money of no known source.
The father told Daily Trust that he threatened to beat his son who then confessed that Musa, 24, and Abdul, 21, who are their neighbors, used to take him into one of the classrooms of their School to abuse him sexually.
Jubrin said his son also told him that his abusers gave him money and threatened to beat him up if he told anyone what transpired between them.
He said, “For quite sometime I was seeing my son with money, so I asked him and he lied to me that he picked it from the ground.
I said to myself that I needed to know the source of this money so I beat him seriously before he confessed to me. He told me that after they had raped him, they would give him N100 or N50.
When I confronted the boys who raped my son they threatened to deal with me so I reported them to the Civilian JTF.”
He said the suspected rapists wanted to ruin his son’s life and he wanted justice.
The two boys have been arrested and handed over to the Police who have said they were still carrying out investigation. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/2-men-rape-9-year-old-boy-in-maiduguri/201726.html |

Business › CBN Gets Marching Order To Recover N536bn From Banks by ijustdey(op): 8:45am On Jun 14, 2017 |
Senate kicks over unremitted revenue Posted by Sunday Ojeme
The Central Banking of Nigeria (CBN) has been given a marching order to recover the N536 billion unremitted funds collected by banks on behalf of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff yesterday gave the nation’s apex bank seven days to recoup the money from the commercial banks.
It lamented that of the over N30 trillion being investigated by the Senate, over N536 billion was terminated at the various banks without being remitted to the CBN.
Giving the order at an investigative meeting with the CBN, Ministry of Finance, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), commercial banks and other stakeholders, Chairman of the committee, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said the parliament would involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should the CBN fail to recover the money. Uzodinma, who directed the apex bank to recover the money within a period of seven days, observed that there were various infractions regarding import and export duties.
He said that the committee had carried out detailed investigation into the matter. “Today, we will address the non-remittance of revenue collected on behalf of Customs. The only bank that is free of this infraction is Zenith Bank.
“We must recover what we are able to and moving forward, we must stop this infraction that is affecting our economy negatively,” he said. While condemning the development, the committee chairman said the situation was worrisome and had affected the naira adversely, stressing that it was embarrassing for the naira to exchange for almost N400 to a dollar.
He gave the banks two weeks to clarify infractions relating to utilised and unutilised Form Ms and Simple Goods Declaration (SGD) and others, including abandoned assessment of Customs duties and foreign exchange allocation manipulation.
On infractions regarding goods destined for free trade zones, Uzodinma said that imported goods flooded the market, competing with local products.
Uzodinma, who also decried multiple registration of Tax Identification Number (TIN) by importers, called for synergy among FIRS, CAC and Customs.
Responding to shady deals regarding TIN, the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), FIRS, Mr. Kola Okunola, said that synergy among relevant organisations had started.
He said that the service had commenced automation of its system, saying that going forward, any citizen interested in registering a company would start from the registration portal of CAC. Okunola said: “We have also discussed with Customs to develop their system to send their infraction list to us.
“For every name, we have the ability to do data matching with the list sent to us by Customs.” https://newtelegraphonline.com/2017/06/cbn-gets-marching-order-recover-n536bn-banks/lalasticlala |

Politics › $1.1bn Malabu Scam: Adoke, Others Face Extradition by ijustdey(op): 2:35pm On Jun 13, 2017 |
The Federal Government is making all necessary arrangements to extradite to Nigeria, former Attorney -General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, to face charges of fraud.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , Mr Johnson Ojogbane, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja.
The EFCC charged Adoke and two multinational oil companies to court on charges of alleged 1.1 billion dollars Malabu Oil scam.
On the last adjourned date , the judge, Justice John Tsoho , fixed June 13 , for arraignment of Adoke and the other co -defendants.
Ojogbane, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria, that the matter could not proceed because the EFCC had been unable to get Adoke and other defendants.
“ The matter was adjourned until today for arraignment of the defendants, but up till now , we have not been able to secure the attendance of most of the defendants, because they are outside the country.
“ The Federal Government is doing everything within its powers to bring them back to Nigeria so that they can face their trial.
“ The government will take steps, in collaboration with the international police to locate them and bring them back to Nigeria through extradition , which is a very cumbersome process, but it will be done, ” Ojogbane said.
He said the court adjourned the matter until Oct. 26 after the court’ s vacation to enable the process of bringing Adoke and others back to Nigeria to be intensified.
The EFCC had in December 2016, charged nine suspects, including Adoke, over the purchase of OPL 245 .
Adoke was accused of illegally transferring more than $800 million purportedly meant for the purchase of the OPL 245 to Dan Etete, Malabu Oil.
The Federal Government had also on March 2, filed fresh charges against Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company Limited and Agip Nigeria Exploration Limited for alleged complicity in the Malabu $1.1 billion scandal.
Adoke , Etete , Aliyu Abubakar , ENI Spa , Ralph Wetzels, Casula Roberto, Pujatti Stefeno , Burrafati Sebestiano and Malabu Oil and Gas were charged alongside the two multinational oil companies . NAN http://punchng.com/1-1bn-malabu-scam-adoke-others-face-extradition/ |
Politics › Psychiatric Test For Traffic Lawbreakers Begins July 1 –FRSC by ijustdey(op): 7:49am On Jun 13, 2017 |
Adelani Adepegba, Abuja
The Federal Road Safety Corps has said that it will commence the enforcement of psychiatric test on traffic law offenders in the country with effect from July 1, 2017.
The Corps Marshal, Dr . Boboye Oyeyemi, stated this at the opening of a five - day training programme for 22 FRSC officials on traffic safety for non - motorised transportation in Abuja on Monday.
According to a statement by Bisi Kazeem , the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Oyeyemi said the test would focus on four areas of violations including use of phone while driving , beating traffic light and route violations as well as dangerous driving.
The move, according to him, is necessitated by continued violations in the identified four areas despite efforts by the corps to change the behaviour of motorists through education and enforcement.
Oyeyemi said, “ We are worried about the continuous use of phone while driving, traffic light violations, route violations and dangerous driving.
“We have invited the commanding officers for a strategic session on Friday. We will give them full directives to resume the referral of all these classes of offenders to various government hospitals for check of their mental state.
“I think it is an act of irresponsibility for somebody to be driving and be using phone or for a traffic light to stop you and you are jumping the line.
“ It means something is wrong with your mental faculty. So , there is a need to examine this, to really check whether you are fit to drive, whether you have the mental capability to drive or not.
“ The offender will bear the cost . When they confirm that he is fit , then he will go for retraining programme and pay the fine. ”
He argued that the purpose of the mental examination for offenders was not to generate revenue but to engender attitudinal change.
“ Fine is not the issue; the issue is we need a positive attitudinal change by Nigerians.
We cannot continue to be having fatal crashes due to traffic light violations, people jumping the traffic lights , I think it is crass irresponsibility , ” the Corps Marshal stated.
He stated that the FRSC was empowered by its enabling Act to undertake the proposed psychiatric examination. http://punchng.com/psychiatric-test-for-traffic-lawbreakers-begins-july-1-frsc/lalasticlala |

Crime › Nigerian Man Nabbed At Indian Airport For ‘Black Dollar Scam' by ijustdey(op): 4:38pm On Jun 07, 2017 |
Police on Friday, June 2, arrested a Nigerian man at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport for ‘black dollar scam’ and forgery.
Officials said that the man identified as Gabriel Blessing Efe, was trying to travel to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar on forged documents.
For those who don’t know, a black dollar scam is a trick where con artists attempt to obtain money by duping their victim by persuading them that a bundle of banknote-sized paper are actually currency notes that have been dyed to avoid detection, and can be brought back to original dollars if treated with a particular chemical.
“Last Friday a Nigerian national who arrived at the Delhi airport to fly to Kolkata via Bhuvneshwer by an Indigo flight 6E 701, was intercepted based on a tip off. According to the documents he held, he was identified as one Mike Danny Efe. On screening of his luggage, a suspicious bundle of papers which were in the size of currency notes and a bottle of chemical were recovered from him,” said Sanjay Bhatia, DCP IGI.
On finding these suspicious articles, the man was off loaded and was detained for further enquiry. Interrogation revealed that his original name was Gabriel Blessing Efe and that he had fraudulently obtained a passport and business visa.
He further disclosed that he had come to India in 2012 for the first time and went back to Nigeria in 2013. In 2015 he again came to India on a business visa and stayed in different cities including Mumbai and Delhi, police said.
“He further disclosed that one of his Nigerian friends, Tonny, who is in Kolkata, asked him to bring dollar size bundles of papers along with a bottle of chemicals. These items were provided to Efe by another Nigerian national Oscar at New Delhi Railway Station and he was asked to deliver it to Tonny in Kolkata.
He also said they were looking to dupe one businessman on the pretext of providing him US dollars on cheap rates. They told the target that the dollars, which are in paper form, can be converted into original USDs, after a chemical wash,” said Bhatia.
With the arrest, police have recovered 14 bundles of currency size paper with each bundle containing 100 papers and one bottle of chemical.
“A record from the immigration department has also been sought to ascertain the travel record of accused Gabriel and others. A team has been deployed to scrutinise the CCTV footage of ticketing agent and railway stations for more clues,” the DCP said.

The motive behind their actions was not clear as P.M.EXPRESS could not confirm if the suspects and victim attended the church progamme on that day.
But police sources told our reporter that both the suspects and victim reside in the same area and attend the church where the incident happened.
They were charged with unlawfully having carnal knowledge of the victim by penetrating her through her vagina.
