Politics / Re: Ndigbo In The Fourth Republic by ikenwan: 9:31am On Jan 30, 2011 |
Ndigbo in the Fourth Republic should not worry about attaining the presidency. We should worry more about building up the economies of the South, creating more jobs for youths, increasing medical access, and all around amending the Quality of Life issues faced by our kin. I despise this mindless and self-serving search for more titles as if claiming that will change anything. A fool who becomes president does not stop being a fool; one more title won't matter one bit, so what's the point of agitating so angrily for the Presidency and making it a matter of pride? Taking care of the internal problems our people face today should be a matter of pride: taking care of the corruption, taking care of education, the security issues, lowering mortality rates, etc. That list goes on. Build up your home first. What I am not saying is that we should abandon politics, but what I am saying is that we should expand our field of vision, because the current perspective is way too narrow for my liking. Our people have traditionally had a saying: "Igbo enweghi Eze" a testament to the self-determinant nature of our ancestors. Maybe it's time that some among us realize what that fully means. |
Politics / Re: To All The Yorubas In Jos by ikenwan: 8:07am On Jan 30, 2011 |
Of all that's been said here, I agree that this is a Berom / Hausa-Fulani issue, not a religious one. Oversimplification, I think, is always a problem with Western media--they do not understand how strongly ethnic loyalties to once homeland pulls, and thus divide along the lines of religion at the first sight. I read something similar just a while ago concerning Ndigbo in Jos, so I'll just reiterate the same to my Yoruba cousins: stay calm and united; act only in self-defense. As a matter of fact, that goes out to any Southerner who may find his or herself in the Middlebelt or in Jos. We are all one. That being said, I read somewhere up there, a person question how Ndigbo were defeating the Northern army during the civil war. That person should remember this very well: when the colonial forces of the British Empire marched on the Northern kingdoms, it took them 1 year to colonize that vast land. When they marched on Alaigbo, it took them 30 bloody years. |

EzeUche22: Sometimes the battle is won by turning a blind-eye to stupid remarks. Ignore him. This isn't about Igbo vs. Yoruba, it is about progressives versus the idiocy that is killing our nation -- namely, that "tribe versus tribe" ideology. |

Andre Uweh: Unless there were nationally televised/covered debates between the candidates. Voters would quickly be able to see the differences between each of them, and would be able to judge them based on that and their pasts. Also, if the candidates were allowed to cross-examine each other, they would be forced to abandon their scripted messages. |
Politics / Re: Why There Is No Presidential Debate In Nigeria? by ikenwan: 11:53pm On Aug 22, 2010 |
Do you want to know the other thing about never having debates? It means the populace never sees the inefficiencies of their "leaders" except for their scripted political talk, which means that nationwide grass-root movements rarely develop. |
Politics / Re: Babangida : The Igbos Must Rule In 2015 by ikenwan: 7:56pm On Aug 22, 2010 |
I can definitely agree with your post, but as much as I would like an Igboman to become president in the future, I would want that Igboman to be a good president. One not only all of Ndi Igbo can be proud of, but all of Nigeria. So in that regard, I would vote for any man or woman be they Efik, Ibibio, Hausa, Fulani, Tiv, or Yoruba, as long as I am convinced that it is his or her intention to move Nigeria forward collectively. |

EzeUche22:Agreed, If the British didn't come to Alaigbo, there would have eventually been one Igbo clan who took over the region. Most likely from Nnewi or Arochukwu. But let's not fool ourselves. |

It is what is is. It doesn't concern me what the vicar does with his boyfriend. To be honest, I think we should spend less time judging what others do and more time doing what it takes to fix our problems. |

Yeah, I agree with THE_AMAKA. Creating more states will only be an advantage politically if Ndigbo knew how to work together. We clearly do not, as evinced by this thread, so the best thing is to consolidate those that we have. I mean, do we really need more reasons to break apart? |
Politics / Re: British Vicar To Marry Nigerian Gay by ikenwan: 12:07am On Aug 21, 2010 |
LWKMD! It's funny how this works out -- Nigerians are more "Christian" and more "Muslim" than the descendants of those who fought, raped, and murdered their ancestors to covert them. It's too much for me o. |

If you will forgive me, I think those in contention should reread the entire thread and check whether their reactions fit the situation. @chyz, I don't know if we can learn all that here. The ability to do so depends on peoples ability to moderate their reactions. |

Culture / Re: The True Extent Of Alaigbo (Igboland) by ikenwan: 7:29pm On Aug 20, 2010 |
I haven't heard enough of what I like to call "deep Igbo" (Igbo spoken by very old people without any English words) to understand all the words in these songs. I think if they were speaking rather than singing, it would be easier to figure it out of course LOL. The disadvantages of a living language that exists as a dialect continuum. :/ Also, @EzeUche22 @THE_AMAKA @ChinenyeN @OnlyTruth: there's no reason to fight amongst yourselves and no reason to respond to barking dogs. I think what you're referring to is an "Inferiority Complex" with the "Biblical" portion being just a symptom of the attempt to compensate. |

Forgive me if I disagree with you. Mr Drommerl here openly declarede himself as a Shuwa Arab then proceeded to denigrate the entire African race in the face of their European "superiors." His goal was not to incite any meaningful discussion. Had it been, he would not have dodged questions. His goal was to troll and while at it, give himself a pat on the back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet) Katsumoto: |
Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Foreign Debt To Hit $9.4bn by ikenwan: 2:36am On Aug 14, 2010 |
I think I'm depressed not because Nigeria owes $9.4 billion, but that for a country with this big of a population, Nigeria's total economy is too frail to support debt as little as $9.4 billion. Ask a politician and they will tell you that they aren't corrupt. |
Travel / Re: Nigeria Installs Full Body Scanners At Airports. by ikenwan: 2:27am On Aug 14, 2010 |
Funny. In the U.S., these full body scanners are causing the biggest uproar in the media just because of the privacy issues. There are debates. Out of Nigeria, not a whimper. |

Just for the record, it is possible to duplicate thumb-prints or to temporarily replace them. Any real biometric detection system should utilize prints / optical / retinal scanning to make it harder to fool the systems. |
