modath: Ilekehd & Katsumoto,
Let us wait & see, it's like pregnancy, their is a limit to wait , none of us will die, we will all see the outcome..... Outcome of what? We've all agreed that it won't work ONLY because there's no foundation for it and because Wike is working alone. Otherwise it would have been a feasible idea. We already know the outcome. Most of the people in Rivers are non-Riverians, and they dictate to Rivers how their state will be governed [unfortunately for Rivers people]. Because of these wicked people and Nigeria's backwardness, it won't work. Later una go say "go develop your state". It's like dangling a big yummy steak at a hungry man and telling him to go and grow corn. Take the steak away, give him corn [seeds], and wait and see what happens. |

superduperjay: look at you madam you don't even know what is going on. In ilorin someone organized a carnival earlier on this year oo and pinto the radio saying their alfa asked them to stone the carnival people if they dare go on with the carnival, and if paradventure carnival goes on that they should never talk or asssociate with the participant again forever or risk being mixed with the unbelievers and miss the "light"?? I don't even know if the carnival eventually took place.I mean yoruba muslims are very nice but I don't know what is going on again. No, I really don't know what's going on down there. That's why I'm depending on you and many others to give me the unbiased information. As for the carnival shenanigans, was the alfa probed? |

IyaIode: Iya agba, if you hear stories coming out our campus, you will understand. I remember a certain Jamaican convert sheikh that was arrested and banned from entering Britain had visited an stayed in a Nigerian campus mosque. Na wa oh. Is anyone addressing our porous borders? If a potential Arabian terrorist can enter Nigeria without our Government being aware, how much more a Jamaican Sheikh. No protection nationally or locally. It's scary, if you think about it. The only thing stopping boko haram from spreading to the South is boko haram....not the army or the government. When they decide to move down South, may Eledumare help us. |

Katsumoto: Why not 300%, heck why not 600%?
If his intention is to de-congest his state, he is at liberty to do that as long as he has the support of the voters in Rivers.
It is high time, everyone goes to develop their states and stop flooding into any state that is making progress. Let all citizens go and attack their reps and governors and demand accountability instead of protesting in another state. When Nigerians start demanding accountability from their LG because they are discriminated against in another LG, then Nigeria will start making progress.
There needs to be a radical paradigm shift for there to be progress. Gosh I love this guy! You're too much Kat! |

modath: You & ileke are not getting me...
The reference to quota system, fed xter / freedom of movement is to drive home the kind of mentality that exists in this country....
Most state schools have a different fee for non indigent vut it is usually in the 20-50% band.. 300% will not happen.
& the thing about going to their state will not hold water.
Probably wike did that & is hoping for a 50% increase after NEGOTIATION.. The state/federal government has the right [or should] impose tuition prices.....private school is another matter. If 300% is their demand, then so it shall be. If out of state public school is too high, stay in state. If public school is too costly, go to a private school. If either one is too much, start a business idea or go back to the farm. You're right, it won't happen now, because the system [foundation] for such process has not been laid down. Wike [with the right intention] is implementing a system that requires 10 men by himself. Out-Of-State tuition is actually a great idea....... if Rivers want 300%, that's River's choice. |

Another story.
It was an OAU agelong tradition from the 70's for Boys to gather in Awo Hall on Friday night to watch P0rn. And when you're leaving the TV room, there is a "No-pocketing" rule meaning you cant use your hand to hide your boner.
From my first Friday in Ife I joined and our "onile" was a legendary Pharmacy student "Victor-Mojo"
After I left, i heard a group of Moslem students who had armed themselves attacked the Awo TV room after their nightly mojo series saying it was immoral to watch Mojo
it became a very serious fight and the school was shut down
At a stadium in Turkey last Tuesday during the 1minute silence for the Paris victims, the whole stadium was whistling, booing and shouting Allahu-Akbar. Turks are seen to be moderate moslems like Yoruba counterparts. That shows there is a quiet majority somewhere who support the action of these terrorists
All it needs is an excuse to start problems. And the excuse can be anything Please I don't even want to think of Yoruba muslims going down that path. We can NEVER go down that path. Ever wonder what the two omo odua terrorist have in common? They were Britainized and brought up in Britain. |

modath: But it can't EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER Be!
It will not happen...
We have quota sytem & federal character & the constitution is all about FREE MOVEMENT.
Small fee disparity, no issue, a 300% hike ?
Wike will be demonised till he gives it up!!! You're misinterpreting OUT-OF-STATE fees for SLAVERY. No one is going to restrict your movement from one state to another. In the states, you're allowed to move around and once you've settled in a state for at least 4 years [for undergrad] you're a resident, and 1.5years [for grad school]. For out-of-state to work, we need to implement the system of residency [the clauses]. 300% may be too much [it's for the school to decide, not the state]. Of course Wike will give up because he's standing alone. He was too hasty with his implementation. This should have been discussed within the education system committee [if Nigeria has one] and the government. |

Katsumoto: I don't see any issues with asking out of state students to pay more. Resources are going to get scarcer in Nigeria and as such, states must ensure that its citizens get the most of out of any spending. Those who are aggrieved should go and task their own sinators, reps, LG Chairmen, and governors to provide better services.
Why should Rivers invest in education, only for kids from other states to benefit? Why protest in Rivers, why not return to your states to protest against your reps? My point exactly! Each state offers education benefits. Why should non-residents get the same benefit? Imagine Osun state spending so much to renovate its education system, and igbos are coming in to benefit from it while igbo governors are spending their money elsewhere, but sending their kids to eat from Osun funds. It's not right. Out of state should be obligated to pay more. It has nothing to do with tribalism. Each state is allocated a specific amount of money per year, the money should benefit mostly residents of the state. Yoruba ronu. Should Osun pay more in Ondo schools? Yes. Yoruba is Yoruba, for sure. But economically speaking, we need to be creative. This is also good because it will make schools competitive. |

Igbos go to your Biafra You still think Yoruba is your [only] problem? Who lay claims to your oil lands? Who owns as much oil wells as Yorubas/Hausas? Who comes to your land to dictate to you who your leaders/govs will be? You're just beginning to wake up. |

That thing won't work, i saw it in the morning on twitter & i just laughed to myself...
Propaganda & bitter politics will ensure it doesn't work.. It will work if it becomes a federal law...... It won't work if one state stands alone. It needs to be mandated into the Nigerian education system. People are gonna fuss and kick, but give it 5 years, they will civilize again. |

Take me for an example...
My school's tuition is around $6k for 9 credits, but I pay $18k since I'm out of state.
What's racism got to do with it?
School is business and should be operated as business. It's a way for the school/state to earn money. It's also one of the ways to gather funds for scholarships for other students. |

@modath I think you're right about "out-of-state[region]" tuition thing not working as an alternative source of revenue for the SW region. A coalition of Non Indigenous Students of the Rivers State University of Science & Technology carried out a peaceful protest in the school premises. The protest was due to the 300% difference between indigene fees and that of students who are indigence of Rivers state. The Non Indigenous Students reportedly vented their streets of the school to vent their frustration on Wednesday, 18th November.
One of the students who spoke with Pulse disclosed that non-indigenes of the states are paying N82, 000 as tuition, while those from Rivers state pay a total of N18, 000. According to the aggrieved student, former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi reduced the fees last session and all students were paying the same amount as fees but since Governor Nyesom Wike took office with the new Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof Blessing Didia, the fees for non-indigenes were increased while those for indigenes stayed the same.
The students are now calling on the Federal Government to see to it that the situation in the school is fairly rectified. : http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/11/university-students-protest-300-school.html#sthash.kJxTljTO.dpuf Although I still think it's a good process tho, but before we can begin this process of out-of-state anything, we need to first define the premises of "residency" and "state of origin". Who will be asked to pay [more] and why? Nigerians are too selfish and archiac for this plant o work. Since everything revolves around tribalism/favorism/etc, it won't work. This will also help us curb the migration to the SW. www.nairaland.com/attachments/3097641_ust4_jpega81f1ed3e0448527e9da62fd5f4f6717I'm seriously begining to hate the backwardness in this country. |

These resolutions were arrived at following a motion by Senator Duro Faseyi (Ekiti North), which he titled, “Illegal mining of the nation’s solid minerals.”
In his submission on the motion, Faseyi drew the attention of the Senate to the worrisome and unlawful plundering of the nation’s solid minerals sector by local and foreign illegal miners operating in the country.
He claimed that illegal mining had resulted in the nation’s loss of N8tn every two years, lamenting that this had impacted adversely on the economy. My people, well done |
