I disagree on this pov.Diaspora folks are one of the most important groups for many developing countries outside of remittances as they usually use money earn outside to build businesses, social infrastructure etc. They also bring valuable knowledge and skills. Its up for each individual Yoruba to determine which cause they are most passionate about whether it be in terms of education, health etc and link with like minded folks to implement small scale projects. The reality is government cannot do it all alone...private individuals must also invest and that's where diaspora Yorubas can help.Yes naija has a lot of corruption but do we conclude all the folks in naija are corrupt? Can't a group of Yorubas who care about education...not raise funds to repair a school in their community or even build one? etc.Giving suggestions only amount to no work being done and makes DAWN implementing its blueprint more challenging.Let Yorubas who care for action engage DAWN to determine areas of most need or they themselves can decide based on their respective communities or passion.
You're both right.

We need to give suggestions. Then we need to implement them.

We have the suggestions, now we need to implement them. Question is, how?

Yeah we can come up with ideas but how do we put it into effect?Just typing on Nairaland is obviously not the way to go.We need to be more direct and i have no idea how we can go about that
This is my point.

1. We need to round up as many Yorubas who are invested in Yoruba interest.

2. Jointly contact the appropriate companies and persons

3. Present ideas

4. Task our governors to enforce the implementation of REALISTIC ideas.

I am tired of talking. I am itching to do something, I just don't know the ins and outs of Nigeria to do so.

I know many Yorubas in America who are ready, but they don't trust sources at home.

Lol Yorubas aren't the only ones using this platform remember. Me personally I give suggestions on the facebook pages of Southwest Governors. We never know how far our opinions go.At the emboldened, dem tell you say ajimobi or amosun dey nairaland? grin grin cheesy
Hmm I think you're getting me wrong.

NL can facilitate communications between YIN and YID (Yorubas in Nigeria and Yorubas in Diaspora). We won't be using NL to communicate with political leaders. Before we can confront them with ideas, YIN/YID ought to collaborate on ideas, come up with new ideas and THEN present the ideas. We need to understand our limitations and our potentials.

How we use this communicative tool (NL) is our prerogative. Are we going to misuse it, not use it or use it to its potential?

Like i said yesterday ilekeh, the US is different from Nigeria. In Nigeria if you give your money to people to carry out important projects in the community, Na you sabi
lol this may be so, but it can't always be like that.

That's why I think NL is an important medium..... we need Seun to reduce his investment in NIgerian interest and increase his Yoruba interest.

There's so much NL can do. It has the potential but it is hindered by Nigeria.

There isn't much the Yorubas in the diaspora can't do other than give suggestions.
1. Who are we contributing these ideas to?

2. How can we enforce the implementations of realistic ideas?

3. Goes back to #1, how can Nigerians in Nigeria use NL as a liaison between diasporas and Nigerians? If we know our voices are being heard, we're more likely to contribute.

What can Yorubas in Diaspora?

Also, I don't think all these small Yoruba communities (Ekiti parapo, Ogun association etc) outside of Nigeria helps, they're the cause of Yoruba disintegration.

How can we mobilize Yorubas, especially on NL, to act?

Nigerians in Nigerians are the ones that can get this started.

I've really enjoyed reading through this thread. God bless you Aare or CabbieAC, IlekeHD and others.

. I'm deeply concerned about the serious deterioration of public schools. This generation of youths are not ready to learn and some parents are more focused on how soon and how much money they can make to uplift the family. That is why we have a lot of students who are part time agbero, okada and Marwa riders. They're more interested in what they make on a daily basis most of which is spent frivolously. As rightly stated before, their role models are motor Park chairmen, 'big girls' with questionable means of livelihood and their ilk. I remember a teacher who told me that her students said she should stop stressing them cos they dont need school cert to be successful. Their example - the deputy governor appointed by Adedibu! God help us.!!

Many of the parents are also not as sacrificial as the old generation. The free education program seems to have brought about an entitlement/non-commitment mentality to our people. They prefer to fight the teacher who tells them to buy books- government should supply! I believe parents must be committed in some way towards the development of their children. It's a major driving force in the life of a child. It doesn't have to be expensive. 1000 per term per child in Oyo state was introduced for that reason. The parents need to be positively involved. Somehow, there must be total reorientation programme for our people. We also need the old technical colleges which was the alternative route for those not so keen on pure academics.

However, the reality now is that those who really want sound education arrange for lessons or go to private schools.
You're welcome.

Of all the worries Yorubas have about Yorubaland on this thread, public education is a common mention.

This problem you mentioned is common all over Nigeria. We know a problem exists, we know the solutions, what next?

25. Over 95% of Nigerians who have been executed in India, Malaysians and Chinese governments FOR CRIMES RANGING FROM DRUG ABUSE TO DRUG MAFIA ARE IGBOS.

26. Igbos are the worst pirates sabotaging the hard labour of people round the world! They bootleg Yoruba-produced movies and sell it in the black markets. They’re petty traders who make fake products without giving credits to its owners. They sell fake pharmaceutical products to unsuspecting patients. Their movies are senseless and hardly being watched by Nigerians themselves.

One funny thing about the parasitic leeches called the igbo tribe is that many of their wealth are ill-gotten. While Yorubas focus on IT companies, Igbos focus on kidnapping rich victims to gain ransom money, sell drugs in the international market. Many of their greey leaders, like Allison Madueke, Stella Oduah and Ifeanyi Ubah get their wealth from unknown source. Look at Nngozi Iweala who siphoned millions from the Nigerian government so that her son can direct a movie in America. Or Madueke who tried to buy mansions in Hyde Park, UK with the money she stole during GEJ’s administration. Ask an Igbo man how he got his money and you’ll hear “drugs”, “oil block” and “political prostitution”.
That’s why Yorubas and Hausas control Nigeria’s political terrain. They’re smarter and more qualified. Igbos are too greedy to hold high positions, when they do, they usually go to court for corruption and fraudulent cases.

Igbo women are big time prostitutes – Biancar Ojukwu who dates FFK behind Ojukwu, Afrocandy, Cozzy Ojiokwor, anna Banner, etc

I wonder what we shall say of Ojukwu who started a war, stayed in an enclosed chamber throughout the war and then ran to Ivory Coast when the soldiers came running.

Or the Igbo youths who kept mum when Fulanis killed one of their leaders.

Or igbo king who got flogged at a Yoruba palace, only to then beg the oba for forgiveness.

Or the igbos who did nada but chestbeat when they were deported from Lagos.

Or the igbos who still allow Fulanis to roam their land after boko haram attacks in the North.

Or the igbos who were too much of a coward to take back their lands/possessions from Ijaw clans after the war.

Or the igbos who were too afraid to speak a government that gave pieces of their land to the SS.

Let's be honest, Igbos are the true cowards. Unless YOU can face the Yorubas, you're not getting out of NIgeria. They're the true barrier.

FKO81:
The Yorubas stay at various intersections harassing hardworking people transacting their legal businesses in the name of collecting charges and dues for the local government. I also discovered that majority of the few Yorubas riding commercial motorcycles in Lagos are locally-trained automobile engineers that have abandoned their workshops.
Furthermore, the popular Ladipo and Owode motor spare parts markets in Lagos are now solidly in the hands of Igbos. As usual, the Yoruba youths are in the market collecting dues for their local government chairmen and the Iyaloja General of Lagos. Yaba, Oyigbo, Sabo, Oshodi, Agege, Alaba, Idumota, etc. markets have been taken over by the Easterners and Northerners who are predominantly youths.
Let me also assert unequivocally that the Igbo youths are now becoming more prosperous in the entertainment industry than the Yoruba youths. Today, the Yorubas hardly tune their DSTVs to the Yoruba movie channel of the satellite television; rather, they watch some other movie channel that show English movies with actors and actresses of Igbo extraction. Why? Because most Yoruba movies are short of creativity.
I can also articulate that 85% of the CEOs and executive directors of commercial banks operating in Nigeria today are Igbos and Hausas under the age of 50. They are very talented in boardroom politics, unlike their Yoruba counterparts, and they assist each other with an amazing ease.
Educationally, the Yorubas are no longer in the top-three. According to the National Universities Commission (NUC), Anambra, Imo and Enugu have the highest number of professors and doctorate degree holders in Nigeria. Ekiti and Ondo states that used to top the list have been demoted to number four and six respectively.
In 2014, the reports of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) revealed that the Yorubas have been upturned by the Easterners in terms of academic performance. Ekiti, a state known as fountain of knowledge, was number 34 in 2013.
This is quite funny and I guess if it makes igbos feel good, then good for you.

Igbos aren't hard working, they distribute fake products, drugs, and materials throughout the yoruba market, making us less competitive with international market.

Igbo touts that enter busy from alaigbo to yorubaland with no chicken change to survive are the nuisance in Lagos. you'll see them transporting hard drugs using Yoruba airports.

Igbo touts contribute kidnapping, prostitution, robbery, and drug dealing to the Lagos market. This is why Yorubas support the agitation of biafra, so we can go our separate ways.
