“If an unbiased Government approved external body conducted the exercise, and some officers are making untrue allegations as we are witnessing now, perhaps the worst would have happened if handled by internally constituted SSC, considering the fact that, even before the exercise, some staff had expressed their lack of confidence in the Committee.” Sources said it was Awolowo’s refusal to put up with deliberate incompetence, and attitude of entitlement displayed by the aggrieved party that made them to disparage him, and accused him of corrupt practices. Few days back, the NEPC CEO was pictured on a private jet heading to Abuja, and rumour mill said he was junketing around the globe, and bleeding the agency dry. However, investigation revealed that Awolowo flew for free on the private jet owned by his friend (name withheld). The source also said “There is no way the Council can deliver on its mandate if the CEO does not travel, and efforts are not made to take advantage of the existing opportunities, locally and internationally. The need to diversify the economy can only be achieved by being active participant in non-oil export relevant events both at home and abroad. “Part of the mistakes of the past is failure to engage actively the development partners in realisation of the Council and the nation’s goals. The reports of all these engagements and empirical and verifiable benefits in terms of MOUs signed and contracts entered into by the private sector operators are contained in the respective operational files and well captured. “Segun Awolowo does not single-handedly allocate funds without recourse to the Fund Allocation Committee as alleged by the aggrieved party. The true picture is that on assumption of office, each time they received funds the Fund Allocation Committee (FAC) would meet to allocate the funds. This exercise was religiously followed in spite of challenges as they have to postpone meetings for members to attend. “It was, however, observed that every meeting produced similar allocation pattern and as an antidote to the recurrent delays experienced in the attempts at making the Funds Allocation Committee to meet, he had to use his discretion to make funds available for the smooth running of the Council by applying already established pattern from several meetings of the Committee. “There is nothing like contingency, the miscellaneous provision is a stop gap measure to keep office running at all times and virtually all operational departments have benefited from it. The anticipatory approvals were always ratified by the Fund Allocation Committee.” It was gathered that the allegation that Segun Awolowo is using fleet of cars, six in number including a siren blaring pick-up van is wicked, ridiculous and irresponsible. On his arrival at NEPC, impeccable sources said he met both at the Headquarters and Zonal Offices, some rickety vehicles including two parked, used Land Cruiser SUVs purportedly meant for the ED/CEO and the Chairman of the Governing Board, and set in motion machinery to refurbish the vehicles. However, on several occasions they broke down on the road. This necessitated the purchase of staff buses, hilux pick-up project vehicles and two cars to replace the 10-year old Land Cruisers. And the staff buses (both refurbished/repaired) and hilux pick-up project vehicles were deployed to NEPC Zonal Offices. It was further gathered that the alleged payment of Segun Awolowo’s personal assistants by NEPC is a false claim likewise Sure-p fund alleged to have been embezzled. Findings revealed that the three Technical Assistants to the ED/CEO were neither on the payroll of the Council nor were included in the Senior Staff Committee (SSC) that conducted the 2014 promotion. 1 Like |

“How could this officer qualify for promotion to Deputy Director in 2011? This is mere fallacy that ordinarily should be penalized. “It is germane to mention that the lateral conversion of Mr. Rufus Durodoye to officer cadre was done along with fourteen other eligible officers. The alleged exclusion of Hassan Bala from being considered in 2014 is a high level of absurdity. “Hassan Bala was deliberately excluded from the 2014 promotion exercise and at the same time claiming that he was invited and participated at the event. Hassan Bala transferred his service from Lagos International Trade Fair Complex with effect from 11th November, 2009, and accepted the conditions as given for his appointment by the NEPC Governing Board. He accepted the conditions in writing, but thereafter, without reference to the Board, Mr. Bala Hassan obtained a letter from the then Director Admin & Human Resources backdating his effective date to 1st January 2006 when he had not joined the services of the NEPC. The letter was later nullified by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. “They are also alleging that Mrs. Opeyemi Abebe was seconded to an organisation which had no relationship whatsoever with activities of the Council and the Nigerian nation. “This is not so. Mrs. Opeyemi Abebe was seconded to the Canadian Embassy for the position of Trade Commissioner in line with PSR 020502 (iv) which states inter alia ‘Secondment of an officer to the service of another Government, or Approved body or recognised International Organisation at his own request shall be for a maximum period of two years in the first instance after which the officer must apply for extension, seek for transfer or return to his former post’. Her schedule of duties are in clear tandem with Trade Promotion activities,” sources explained. Facts on the ground(published right) indicate that Northerners dominate NEPC, and has a substantial share of high ranking officials in the agency. Investigation revealed that Segun Awolowo’s other sin is that he contracted the coordination of the NEPC staff promotion exercise that previously was done in-house to another government agency, Centre for Management Development(CMD), and the exercise was allegedly not in favour of Northerners. It was gathered that he inherited huge backlog of promotion from the previous management, and there was absence of a Governing Board, which ordinarily conducts promotion exercises for the Directorate Cadre. The insider also said “So the first promotion exercise under his watch was conducted in August 2014, and the second one in July 2015. This was done with a view to clearing all the arrears of promotion, so that subsequent ones could be conducted as at when due. “The issue of alleged jerking up of pass mark to 70% and 75% as against 60% as stipulated in the Civil Service was used against him. The Guidelines for Appointments, Promotion and Discipline in the Civil Service stipulates under Part IV – Promotion Number 5 Paragraph 2 that ‘Eligibility for promotion shall depend on meeting the minimum score of 60%and satisfying all promotion criteria, including availability of vacancy. “The import of this is that scoring minimum of 60% is one of the criteria and it is not final determinant for promotion and besides, the Senior Staff Committee (SSC) has the prerogative to determine the cut-off mark, in line with contemporary realities. “In order to ensure fairness and give all candidates equal opportunities and level playing ground, Centre for Management Development, a Federal Government Agency was appointed to conduct the interview. Even though the events leading to the division into languages at the tower of Babel was indeed a tragic one, yet it is obvious that God had a place in his heart originally for nations, languages, continents and diversity in general, especially since as seen above in Gen.10:5, God had intentionally divided the people by their languages to their various lands, territories and nations. Why was God doing all these? Anyone who has studied the acts of God would tell you that our God is not a chaotic God. He is not confused, disorganised, disorderly or unthoughtful in his actions and deeds. Which means everything he does is well thought out. If he decided to create diversity through nations, people groups, tribes, nationalities, then he definitely has a purpose for it. He has a purpose for every tongue, a purpose for every tribe, a purpose for every ethnic group, a purpose for every nationality and a purpose for every country and nation. At this time my friends, have you started wondering what the purpose is for your nation? What the purpose is for your tribe? What the purpose is for your people group? Is there any purpose for Nigeria? Is there any purpose for our composition? Could there be any reason why we all came together to become a country? Is there any place and purpose for every tribe? What that tells me is that even God recognises every single tribe, nation and ethnic group he has created. That is why he had to make that statement clear and loud, even in the New Testament; meaning the new thing God is doing in the New Testament belongs to all nations, tribes, people groups and all nationalities, no matter the differences. Notice that there were no conditions for these people to become witnesses and participants to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. They didn’t need to become Jews, they didn’t need to be circumcised, they didn’t need to be baptized, etc. God just poured out his Spirit upon all flesh, signifying the fact that all flesh were made by him for his purposes. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” Col. 1:16 Hence, God has his own agenda, ideas and purpose for the creation of every single nation, country, ethnic group, tribe, nationality, colour, island, etc. Each one of these diversities are meant to serve their individual purposes as only God sees best. I hope what we have observed so far has begun to awaken our interest in the importance of nations in God’s purposes. Going back to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts Chapter 2, it is however important to note that despite the recognition of the diversities of nations and cultures represented on that Pentecostal historic day, yet there is another significant thing that happened which we must pay attention to. The Spirit that was poured out is meant for all flesh, it is one and the same Spirit. Notice there was no different outpouring of the Spirit on the Jews, while a different Spirit on the Gentiles. There wasn’t a different Spirit for the educated and a different Spirit for the uneducated. It was the same spirit that was poured on the Jews that was equally poured on the Asians, Africans, Americans, Europeans, etc. God thereby makes a very loud statement by saying that no matter our differences – culturally, ethically, racially, etc., we are all united by one Spirit. The message is clear: it is the spirit of God that makes us one. It is in God that we are all one and equal, yet not cancelling our diversities. ONLY GOD CAN DO THAT – A CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY!!! Coming back to our main message in this write up, what I am going to focus on is that every nation, every ethnic group, every culture, and every country under the sun has a definite purpose for their creation. That is however not the most important thing that I want to point out today. More significantly, it is essential that each one of these nations, discover their purposes. Let me quickly point out that there are general purposes for all nations, as well as more concrete and specific purposes for each nation. In regards to how to discover the specific callings and purposes of each nation, that would be a discussion for another day. Following the events of the aftermath of the flood, according to Genesis 10:5, “From these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their families, into their nations”. After the flood, when the survivors began to grow, increase and multiply, God almighty saw the need to distribute nations by territories, lands, languages, families, tribes and nations. Obviously, this distribution and separation into lands and territories, happened only after the event of the Tower of Babel as recorded in Genesis 11:7-8, when the languages were first divided. “’Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.’ So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.” |

PELEG… This is a word that might be unknown to even some of the most ardent students of the Bible. Graduates of schools of theology, seminaries and Bible schools might not have a clue into the meaning and significance of this word. If we however wish to understand the mind of God concerning nations and continents, there is no way we can bypass Peleg. This five letter word might hold the key to understanding the structure of our world. It could be a major key in understanding the makeup of the geographical map of the world. But even more important is the fact that Peleg could give us insight into the future of nations and continents as we know them today. I wish to deviate meanwhile into a more detailed analysis of the centrality of our topic today – THE PURPOSE OF NATIONS. I would definitely come back to a full and detailed discussion about the supposedly mysterious word, Peleg. It is expedient for every man and woman in our world today to know that he or she is not a product of accident. What I am trying to say is that, your origin matters, your nation matters, your culture matters, your ancestry matters, your country matters. Sometimes the idea that we are living in a global village could create a sense of loss and confusion, in the sense that you don’t think any more in terms of where you are coming from. What your origin is. What your roots are. Most of the time, especially as believers, we tend to think that these things don’t matter anymore, especially to God. We hear people say that if you are in Christ it doesn’t really matter who you are or where you are from. Yet, we cannot close our eyes to the fact that people are different. People have different skin colours, pigmentation, shapes and colours of the eyes, cultures, and traditions. Even though we might all be in Christ, we speak different languages and relate to different cultures better; we belong to different races etc. What that tells me is that being in Christ does not obliterate diversity in cultures, traditions and even races. A glaring proof of this hypothesis is seen in the New Testament. When the Holy Spirit poured out upon the disciples in Acts Chapter 2, God in his infinite wisdom had made arrangement for all people groups under the sun to be present at this historic and monumental event. When the Spirit was eventually poured out on the disciples, the standbys from different nations of the earth testified to have heard the disciples speak in the various languages represented. “And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, ‘Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.’ So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘Whatever could this mean?’” Acts 2:6-12. |

GAMBO, the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, he described the report as “baseless and at best, mere figment of the author’s jaundiced imagination.” The statement read in full: “The attention of Headquarters 82 Division, Nigerian Army has been drawn to a deliberate campaign of misinformation that is being currently circulated in the social media. “In specifics, a subversive group named ‘EASTERN RADIO’ with no known address or identity orchestrated an unfortunate caption and storyline with insinuation of ‘Tribal War at Army Barracks, 82 Division Enugu’. “The colouration of ethnic and tribal collusion that greeted the misinformation is rather unfounded, baseless and at best mere figment of the authors’ jaundiced imagination. “For the avoidance of doubt, let it be emphatically stated that the Nigerian Army remains a national institution which emphasises unity in diversity of the entire Country. There are extant norms, regulations and practices for diversity management in the Nigerian Army which are upheld in 82 Division without compromises. “The intent and calculations of this band of mis-informant is to cause disaffection amongst own troops and the Country’s populace at large. Their methodology is to employ such campaign of calumny and distortion of an established reign of peaceful, harmonious and esprit-de-corps culture in 82 Division and the entire Nigerian Army. “However, the campaign is a failed one as the entire Division remains indivisible, unprovoked and not gullible to such cheap and heinous insinuations. “The general public is hereby called upon to discountenance the storyline of EASTERN RADIO and their affiliated secessionist groups. 82 Division Nigerian Army is intact and marching forward together as ever. While it may mean little to many in this part of the globe, Nigeria was again missing in action as other countries reflected on the nexus between these global imperatives. It cannot be denied that almost half of the world’s workers – 1.5 billion people – work in water related sectors and nearly all jobs depend on water and those that ensure its safe delivery. Sadly, Nigeria ended at the base of the United Nations Decade for Water – 2005 to 2015. Despite her enormous water resources the country could not achieve the Millennium Development Goals on Water and Sanitation. Many suburbs still do not have access to fresh water, as only 58 per cent of the populace is covered. It means about 87 million Nigerians rely on water scooped from filthy ponds, wells, rivers, lakes and in many privileged homes through boreholes that are privately dug. In many towns and villages, water vendors earn their livelihood scrounging water from sundry sources for sale to hapless citizens to use for their domestic consumption and industrial needs. In defiance of hazards associated with indiscriminate drilling of boreholes, the government is yet to live up to its responsibility on water supply. With the number of people working at borehole sites, sachet water and pure water companies, it is self-evident that the workers are often not recognized or protected by basic labour rights. Our government needs to harness the expansiveness of knowledge age that sees water sector as highly conducive for job creation and create an enabling environment on how enough quantity and quality of water can change workers’ lives and livelihoods. For instance, we see the nexus between job and energy as intrinsically linked and a potential job market. We also know that wastewater from domestic, commercial and industrial sectors can also be treated, using mechanical power driven by electricity. This increases the use of energy to treat wastewater. Industrial wastewater that carries hazardous chemicals may use higher energy input. Nevertheless, sewage and biomass can produce methane, a renewable energy resource to be converted into electricity or biogas. We see in this year’s theme couched in several possibilities for a government that ascended power on the mantra of change. We need to join the rest of the developing world to accelerate research on how to maximise the harmonious relationship between water and jobs. Nigerian leaders should not slack in holding talks with professionals in the water sector through its numerous water boards, river basin authorities and other positive initiatives. Given its status as a universal solvent, water should be treated as a human right. The country’s National Water Supply Policy articulates this. We propose that government should stand up to its responsibility and provide for special fund for the sector. Awareness of the inter-linkages between water and job is expedient, just as we must focus on the broad range of issues related to the nexus of water and jobs. Decision makers in the employment and the water sectors must integrate into the global plan on the water-job synergy to achieve greater economic and social impacts. If not, we will be charting the pathway to hunger since food security relies on water. |

The results were announced last night in Port Harcourt, the state capital, by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Aniedi Ikoiwak. Ikoiwak said PDP’s candidate for Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 1, Kenneth Anayo Chikere, got 18, 904 votes to defeat his closest rival, Igo Aguma, of the APC, who polled 6, 035 votes. The election results also showed that PDP’s candidate for Port Harcourt Constituency 2, Mrs. Blessing Nsiegbe, polled 6, 968 votes to defeat Collins A. N. Owhondah of the APC, who got 3,154 votes. INEC announced that PDP’s candidate for Obio/Akpor state constituency, Kingsley Chinda, polled 27, 895 votes to defeat his closest rival, Tony Okocha, of the APC, who polled 9, 514 votes. Thus far, the PDP has won four Federal and eight state constituency seats in the rerun; APC has won two of the state constituency seats. |

sammyj:Okay lemme explain, you plant Cassava using the stems, with this genetically modified seedlings you can only use the seeds which can only be supply by Bill, this seedlings changes the soil in such a way that only this kind of cassava can grow on the soil, tthat not all. 2 Likes 1 Share |

A local farmers-scientists group condemned the covert visit of the notorious GMO/vaccine advocate, Bill Gates, who is trying to convince the Philippine government to use genetically modified Golden Rice as the solution to vitamin A deficiency when Malungay or Moringa, which is very rich in Vitamin A and all other nutrients, is already pervasive in this part of the world since Moses’s time. Is Bill Gates that desperate in killing us all here? Or, is he just plain stupid? We hope that this guy realize how irritated we already are with his arrogant interference to our domestic affairs.
