Foreign AffairsColumbia President Announces Plans To Accept Migrants From The US by Illusioneffect(op): 12:22am On Jan 27, 2025
On January 26, 2025, tensions arose between the United States and Colombia when Colombian President Gustavo Petro rejected two U.S. military deportation flights carrying Colombian migrants, leading to a series of retaliatory measures by President Trump.

These included the imposition of a 25% tariff on Colombian goods, set to increase to 50% in a week, along with travel bans, visa sanctions, and enhanced border inspections. In response, Colombia agreed to facilitate the return of its citizens using the presidential plane, though not committing to future deportation flights.

The President also declared to send a presidential flight to accept migrants from the US.
This is just an hour after Trump declares sanctions and tariffs on Columbia.

Even though I will never watch Emilia Perez, I'm still rooting for Gascon to win the best actress category.
Gotta support men winning 3 acting categories, while leaving just 1 for the women.

Make the patriarchy great again 💪🏾✊🏾
Sincerely! He acted as a dude in the first quarter of the movie and acted better - I wish he was nominated for both actor and actress so he can win both honestly. Someone who became a woman for just 2 years winning will be hilarious- just shows men are not just better athletes but also better actresses😭😂😂
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Illusioneffect(m): 12:01pm On Jan 25, 2025
So I decided to go back to Emilia Perez after just getting infuriated with it in just the first 10 minutes on first watching 🤦🏽‍♂️. And I can totally get why it’s getting all the nominations👍🏾.

First of all, it’s one of the worst musicals ever and the fact no one is talking about that is just insane- I did not even know it was a musical until I watched it. The music is terrible and catchy-less and sometimes I found it difficult to know if they were just speaking or singing🤦🏽‍♂️.

Second - the story lacked direction and it was so distracting to even know who the main protagonist was 🤦🏽‍♂️ probably because the person who was ‘The hero’ left his wife, his children - is a drug dealer and the movie still wants us to feel sorry for him/her because he decided to leave his children and wife to become a woman😒.

The only reason the Voting bodies like BAFTA, Golden Globes and the Oscars has Emilia Perez probably winning Best Picture (and I’m 90% sure it will) is because they don’t see themselves as movie critics but political critics and trying to use their power to make a political statement about trans ideology and trans rights esp in a time a lot of people are totally against it affecting their own lives even the president.

It’ll also be a historic moment for the Oscars- it’ll be the first time a man wins best Actress😂 over women that have been female all their lives. It would also be the lead to win Best Picture - a woman director; woman leads; a trans lead too- great PR for the Oscars

This is from your beef with the Conclave cinematography hive, some pages back? 👀 I respect and rate the hate to be honest 😩👍🏿.

But all this "Dune: Part Two" gas from you, only for it to lose to the ultimate industry plant "Emilia Pèrez".... Be there....👍🏿😅
😭😂 My argument was conclave doesn’t have dune beat in terms of cinematography in any sense at all but I was also the first to say conclave cinematography was excellent - it definitely should be in the nominations

Lead roles una 😩...you must really like her and desperately trying to be on her side, cuz she's like a tier C actress, who apart from this movie and a show, which she went overboard to impress, that ultimately failed, she hasn't been in anything decent or had that much lead roles...Her nepo status rather than her perceived beauty (according to you anyway), is the only thing keeping her faint career alive 👍🏿.
That’s your opinion 😒 I find her really attractive 👀 it doesn’t matter if she’s your definition of a C-tier actress and the notion to actually think it’s her daddy’s name keeping her career alive after the performance she gave in Nosferatu is dumb in my opinion 😂

Illusioneffect:
Yeah, you're right. Movies I think will make the best picture cut are more excellent as last year's.
1. Conclave (one of the best cinematography of this year too)
2. Dune Part Two
3. Babygirl
4. Blitz
5. Sing Sing (in my opinion, it shouldn't be here at all but a black guy movie has to be because it's 'important'
6. Anora (my pick to win considering it's Neon and had been winning awards left right and centre)
7. A different Man
8. Queer
9. Emilia Perez
10. The Brutalist
abduleez1:
It's my opinion bro. If you pick DUNE PART TWO I have no issues with your choice. It's also top tier.

I've watched both and you can't tell me what my brain prefers more. I've rewatched parts of DUNE on TV this time, during December and yes I'll go with CONCLAVE.

While DUNE PART 2 is also really top tier and would easily be my pick if not for CONCLAVE, it comes a little unnatural in some instances with it's monochromatic tone. The fact that a significant chunk of DUNE shots is also CGI and practical effects heavy, takes the edge of its scenes as they're mostly not real world reimaginings.

Same way of you claiming to frame any part of DUNE is same way I feel with every shot of CONCLAVE.

So in that my write-up you could only find framing and shots as the reason for me choosing it? 🤦🏽‍♂️
I just find this your response funny especially you trying to teach me what Cinematography actually means — judging by the fact that I'm a cinematographer. 😂😂

Art is subjective and what I find visually stimulating can be very different from yours.
Yeah I can totally get you😂 it's your opinion and I think it's wrong 😭 I was actually the first one here that watched Conclave and I watched it in a cinema and I clearly stated then the cinematography is awesome but if you where to watch dune 2 and conclave in a cinema all at the same time - I don't think you'ld have this opinion..... My opinion tho 😭 don't slaughter me

Bro what do you mean "filmed a scene by building vehicles and plugging them together"?
I don’t know how to explain this properly but the way the worms in Arrakis was created was through combining different wheels and vehicles to make the mouth of the worms
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Illusioneffect(m): 4:27pm On Jan 16, 2025
abduleez1:
Few shots why this movie tops any movie's cinematography this year.

The framing, composition, colours, saturation, hue, texture and the lighting is just PEAK artistry.
Yre probably saying this because you just watched Conclave and you don't really remember how Dune 2 looks. Cinematography is not just about framing and shots - it is also about how the camera makes scenes feel throughout the movie. I could pause ANY frame of Dune Part 2 and even Nosferatu and it could be a painting - I can't say the same about Conclave. They literally created a black and white sequence that has never been done in film history. They filmed a scene by building vehicles and plugging them all together. Nosferatu has even way better cinematography than Conclave and conclave has almost the same cinematography as Challengers just more fine tuned
You probably should rewatch Dune 2 again

There is a general misconception that Hollywood actors constantly have massive pay days and are living the dream, which is so untrue in a number of ways. Only Tier 1 actors are actually living the dream and this is a very small exclusive list, the fun stops there really.

From B list actors downwards is hellish, some have to actually take second jobs, as acting might not suffice as a full fledged form of livelihood. They don't even get really acting gig to begin with.

All due respect to him, i wouldn't say he is tier 2 actor, let alone tier 1, so i can understand his frustration.

Mandy Moore put up a Gofundme due to the recent L.A fires, and fans were eating her up, saying she is a "millionaire", meanwhile she has had like 3 acting gig since 2019!...An actress from the hit Bernie Mac show from years ago had to open OF, just to make ends meet!

Why i do agree they are underpaid, but i fear tier 2 actors even have the cajones to push for better pay, and with the advent of A.I. and other tech, thier negotiating power just got down...

See the Actors, writers union strike last year or so, wasn't for tier 1 actors, No. Those ones can do one gig, and get the entire earnings for a tier 2 or 3 actor for their entire careers. Hollywood is showbiz, and it follows the same rules of showbiz. You have to be at the very top to enjoy the bigger chunk of the cake, and most importantly remain top...
Yeah and even popular ones . People think popularity is synonymous to wealth. There're a lot of actors like even Anya Taylor Joy that had to work two jobs even after big movies just to make ends meet plus most of them have to live in Los Angeles which is insanely expensive compared to other places

Uhm, as far as I know reshoots are pretty much part of the game for Hollywood blockbusters. 🤔

Anyways here are films with little to no reshoots at $300mn+

Avatar 2 & 3
Spectre
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Not to mention some movies with around $250mn production budget:

GOTG 3
Batman vs Superman
The Lion King (2019)
Fate of The Furious

$250mn isn't so groundbreaking the way you make it seem. Granted.... it's a whole lot of money. But Nolan literally made TENET at WB for $205mn & $230mn for The Dark Knight Rises (which was actually $250-300mn gross but benefited from tax credits).

So all this talk about Nolan getting a blank cheque is just over sensationalism.
You're probably right about sensationalism but you should know every film you mentioned are sequels and were successful once and studios are willing to pay a hefty price because they're almost guaranteed to be successful. The Odyssey is mostly an original film, no studio will pay that amount if it wasn't Nolan directing so I think 250 million is groundbreaking considering it's not a franchise movie and won't even be

The impact of successful movies from Universal on Comcast stock is limited due to the diverse nature of the company's business segments. For a significant increase in stock value, the parent company must also achieve success across its other business divisions in addition to these film releases.

That doesn't look like a blank cheque to me when some 2025 films are around $300mn. 🙃
Like which one? Because movies that have those kind of budgets are just because of reshoots and other irregularities. The thing is Nolan hasn't had irregularities in his movies ever

Although I'd have loved the trailer not spoiling the plot with too much info....now I know she's a robot.

The Substance doesn't have nudity in the sense of sex. I can't think of anyone who would get a boner from a nude women literally tearing out of another person. Even Nosferatu had way more nudity than the Substance

The guy annoys me the most. I don't watch his videos except one time I watched a few minutes of a review I can't even remember for what film. I don't even remember his face, just the name.
I just knew I don't need opinions from him and had an annoying voice.

His followers just reminds me everytime why I shouldn't take YouTube film critics seriously. They always go like "Critical Drinker said this and that" instead of watching it themselves.
The only critic I can totally rely on is Jeremy Jahns. The rest are somewhat grifters
