Few shots why this movie tops any movie's cinematography this year.

The framing, composition, colours, saturation, hue, texture and the lighting is just PEAK artistry.
Yre probably saying this because you just watched Conclave and you don't really remember how Dune 2 looks. Cinematography is not just about framing and shots - it is also about how the camera makes scenes feel throughout the movie. I could pause ANY frame of Dune Part 2 and even Nosferatu and it could be a painting - I can't say the same about Conclave. They literally created a black and white sequence that has never been done in film history. They filmed a scene by building vehicles and plugging them all together. Nosferatu has even way better cinematography than Conclave and conclave has almost the same cinematography as Challengers just more fine tuned
You probably should rewatch Dune 2 again

There is a general misconception that Hollywood actors constantly have massive pay days and are living the dream, which is so untrue in a number of ways. Only Tier 1 actors are actually living the dream and this is a very small exclusive list, the fun stops there really.

From B list actors downwards is hellish, some have to actually take second jobs, as acting might not suffice as a full fledged form of livelihood. They don't even get really acting gig to begin with.

All due respect to him, i wouldn't say he is tier 2 actor, let alone tier 1, so i can understand his frustration.

Mandy Moore put up a Gofundme due to the recent L.A fires, and fans were eating her up, saying she is a "millionaire", meanwhile she has had like 3 acting gig since 2019!...An actress from the hit Bernie Mac show from years ago had to open OF, just to make ends meet!

Why i do agree they are underpaid, but i fear tier 2 actors even have the cajones to push for better pay, and with the advent of A.I. and other tech, thier negotiating power just got down...

See the Actors, writers union strike last year or so, wasn't for tier 1 actors, No. Those ones can do one gig, and get the entire earnings for a tier 2 or 3 actor for their entire careers. Hollywood is showbiz, and it follows the same rules of showbiz. You have to be at the very top to enjoy the bigger chunk of the cake, and most importantly remain top...
Yeah and even popular ones . People think popularity is synonymous to wealth. There're a lot of actors like even Anya Taylor Joy that had to work two jobs even after big movies just to make ends meet plus most of them have to live in Los Angeles which is insanely expensive compared to other places

Uhm, as far as I know reshoots are pretty much part of the game for Hollywood blockbusters. 🤔

Anyways here are films with little to no reshoots at $300mn+

Avatar 2 & 3
Spectre
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Not to mention some movies with around $250mn production budget:

GOTG 3
Batman vs Superman
The Lion King (2019)
Fate of The Furious

$250mn isn't so groundbreaking the way you make it seem. Granted.... it's a whole lot of money. But Nolan literally made TENET at WB for $205mn & $230mn for The Dark Knight Rises (which was actually $250-300mn gross but benefited from tax credits).

So all this talk about Nolan getting a blank cheque is just over sensationalism.
You're probably right about sensationalism but you should know every film you mentioned are sequels and were successful once and studios are willing to pay a hefty price because they're almost guaranteed to be successful. The Odyssey is mostly an original film, no studio will pay that amount if it wasn't Nolan directing so I think 250 million is groundbreaking considering it's not a franchise movie and won't even be

The impact of successful movies from Universal on Comcast stock is limited due to the diverse nature of the company's business segments. For a significant increase in stock value, the parent company must also achieve success across its other business divisions in addition to these film releases.

That doesn't look like a blank cheque to me when some 2025 films are around $300mn. 🙃
Like which one? Because movies that have those kind of budgets are just because of reshoots and other irregularities. The thing is Nolan hasn't had irregularities in his movies ever

The Substance doesn't have nudity in the sense of sex. I can't think of anyone who would get a boner from a nude women literally tearing out of another person. Even Nosferatu had way more nudity than the Substance

7/10 is far too rich or have you guys gone soft and are easily impressed by this subpar movies that these guys are churning out these days?? 🤷🏾‍♂️...This movie doesn't come out top 50, let alone Top 10, in 2014. If critics are praising a movie to the highest heavens, then i will be overly critic of such movie and would expect nothing but top shelf material, but this was a borefest to say the least.

Dune part two ain't getting any of the Big 5 prizes imo, and the reasons are clear enough, it lacks a certain oscar spice....might get best cinematography if they are serious but i fear it even faces a strong competition from "The Substance" in the cate, as the cinematography of the later is far too supreme.
You really think the Substance has better cinematography than Dune?!

Yes, but sometimes he makes videos with preconceived notions already and it spills to his reviews. Like a video he made about House of the Dragon before it even released and a recent video about Ellie in the The Last of Us 2. Most of the time he's right but he's also wrong a lot too

A Real Pain (2024)

Archetype Oscar-bait flick that fails to leave first gear...

One of the easiest award-magnet stories to tell in movies is the Holocaust. Hollywood rinses it every now and then with varying degrees of success. This movie tried to use the same template, but it was a lethargic attempt, to say the least.

Close American Jewish cousins, David and Benji, travel to Poland, the birthplace of their grandmother, to connect with their Jewish heritage. They join a Holocaust tour group along the way.

The Holocaust is always an emotional story, but this movie used it as a smokescreen. The real focus was on Benji (played by Kieran Culkin), who embarks on some grief/redemption journey which was as bland as they come. Nothing worthwhile happens, and Culkin’s acting comes off as really, really annoying. Honestly, he was my least favorite character on Succession! The supporting cast was equally unremarkable.

The movie seriously tries to be something it’s not, a deep, profound insight into grief. Instead, it’s as shallow as they come and ultimately forgettable. I could’ve spent the 1 hour and 30 minutes watching paint dry instead of sitting through this hogwash.

Hollywood might have lost the plot. I can't expect profound movies from them anymore. they’re too focused on creating surface-level "artsy" flicks designed to attract awards and attention.

Adding this, along with Anora (2024), to the list of movies I’m actively rooting for to fail at the Oscars.

A Real Pain was exactly that.....a real pain to sit through. You should rightfully skip it
. 👍🏿

Do you think Netflix will end the game in the 3rd season giving that the S2 is already the 3rd most viewed non English Netflix show in just 2 weeks

Seeee....It might seem selfish, but if na me be Gi Hun, i don carry my 45.6 billion won japa o. can't be arsed saving greedy people.

Those people entering the games clearly knew what they were in for, and even signed consent form. The only part i fault the Squid Game organisers is that that didn't state explicitly that "elimination" actually meant topping them for good from this life...they probably thought, elimination meant when they fail a game, they allow them go home 😩💀

Gi Hun is clearly propped up to be the hero of the whole thing, so most likely he will have a big hand in ending the games, come S3.
Exactly the fact that nga even has a daughter and decided not to give everything to her if he doesn't want it.

WICKED.......7.5/10

It's a good and well made film set in the world of Wizard of Oz. It solely focuses on Elphaba, the green outcast and her fight for societal acceptance and being true to oneself and being 'good'. Also has subtle themes of inferiority complex and acceptable societal norms.

Cynthia Erivo is the lifeblood of this movie. Who knew she could be really beautiful — even with GREEN skin. 🤭 Erivo deserves an Oscar shout for Best Supporting Actress. It's a more deserving campaign than what Ariana Grande fans have been pushing online for months, because I could hardly see the Oscar worthy performance Ariana churned out despite being good and fit for the role.

It's an enjoyable watch even though it's a musical, the songs were mostly pretty good especially the ones for Cynthia Erivo — who knew she could really sing asides from her acting talent. She's an all round actress who has the knack of playing oddball talented characters and shining in it. She made it watchable for me and grounded without straying too much in the absurdities that could be associated with Musicals.

It had really good cinematography, set design and costume.

A good movie but definitely not worth the hype many fans are screaming at making it a Best Picture contender — which I find ludicrous. It's a good entertaining film better left at that.
Ariana Grande is winning an award today🤲🏾 probably.
Which movie do you think is likely winning best picture today tho?

I understand your point about extensive research, and I respect that you studied this topic in depth for a project. If your issue is with the movie’s execution, I’d agree—Tyler Perry didn’t do the story justice. But your response seems to downplay the historical and symbolic importance of the 6888th Battalion, which I believe is central to this discussion.

Yes, morale-boosting letters might not compare to frontline victories, but wars are not won by combat alone. Logistics, communication, and morale support are critical to any military operation.

To say “the war would have still been won without them” misses a larger point: No single unit wins a war, but every contribution matters. The real question is whether their efforts were significant and meaningful, and for the 6888th, the answer is yes.

Your initial Dismissal or downplay of their achievements only perpetuates the erasure of Black contributions to history. The fact that it took decades for their efforts to even be acknowledged with a Congressional Gold Medal in 2022 speaks volumes about how society has long undervalued their service.

You’re also right about Hollywood’s tendency to prioritize marketable narratives, often tied to themes of racism or discrimination. But in this case, their focus on the 6888th sheds light on a story that was ignored for decades. Highlighting Black women in a segregated military—working under immense pressure and prejudice—isn’t just about exploitation; it’s about acknowledging and celebrating a contribution that history has overlooked.
I think you get my point already and we can totally disagree unlike some other sperm-infected brained Nairalander here. You believe the 6888th battalion story should be highlighted and I totally still believe the Netflix story overbloated their achievements in the WW2 just because of their race.
Just three months ago I wrote a letter to the Writers Guild of Hollywood highlighting the stories that haven't been told or even discussed previously about Black and Hispanics in WW2, the Vietnamese War and the Iraqi War which would make of great stories.
The 6888 battalion did their part in rat infested warehouses and bad working conditions and definitely should be appreciated but not with a movie and a movie that added 70% of fantasy to their exploits - I consider it a shame to my black community

https://chxta.medium.com/feedback-on-6888-830a1817e237

one who actually understands that minorities have been historically disenfranchised and their stories relegated

how many movies about ww2 are 101% real?

the supremacists whose dicks you are sucking had nothing to say about any of the following ww2 movies

pearl harbor
the great escape
schindlers list
inglorious basterds
life is beautiful
etc

or maybe you think those movies are also completely accurate?

did your white master have the same vitriol for the ministry of ungentlemanly warfare?

fu-ck off and go and beat off a white dude

unable to enjoy a movie if the hero is not a white guy.

its not as if you actually are capable of thought in any event - all you can do is repeat the talking points of MAGAts who yearn for a return to those days when black women's roles in entertainment were limited to the black mammy

historically accurate picture of you right here
You this abhorrent wh*re of a human being - I can certainly consider someone other than you as serious in this thread.
I've always said this here - I'm not even a republican and most of critical drinkers videos are trash and shows his personal bias but since you have dog sp*rm for brains you wouldn't notice that.
I haven't even watched drinkers video but my own analysis is based on the movie and my 1 year study on women roles in WW2.
Of course most world war related stories are 90% fantasy (e.g Inglourious Basterds)but the ones based on true stories are always meant to be accurate and sometimes they even go too the direct source to get information.
This movie is 70% fiction - something that was sold as a true story, they literally created some main characters out of thin air and created major plot points that never happened just to make the story happen. If Netflix really cared about women in WW2 that actually had major impacts in the war they would tell the story of Barbara Pathe, Betty Bagot, Constance Negrotto even the Army Nurse Corps who faced probably one of the top 5 biggest challenges in the war.
Any contribution to the war is awesome but having a movie just because you're a black woman and white people want to make you inclusive in WW2 is demeaning to my community

You hypocritical bitch stfu - anyone can talk about the black community but definitely not you.
I am totally in support of Hollywood making movies about my black community but definitely not about exploiting the black community by creating a story about black women in which 70% of it is fantasy making it seem like black people can't tell a story about their exploits without it being almost farcical

. Fact check: Incorrect. The 6888th cleared the backlog twice—first in Birmingham, England, and then in Rouen, France—ahead of schedule. Yes, the war was nearing its end, but their work ensured soldiers received these morale-boosting letters even as the conflict wound down
Probably you don't get what I'm implying. Extensive knowledge doesn't mean skimming through pages brother - it's something I actually studied for a project for a full year in college🤷🏾‍♂️ and I can tell you the articles you sent are basic compared to the the study I've done.
I don't want to write a whole article to argue with you but I'll say this tho- 'morale boosting' letters is extremely minute compared to actual war morale boost. In 1941 when the British were pretty losing - some major officials decided to even stop letters because it made the soldiers miss home and some of them even hurt themselves so they could go back 🤷🏾‍♂️.
I'm not saying they didn't do their jobs well - they truly did and perfectly well but if they had not done their jobs - the war would have still been won.
The thing with Hollywood is they only market what people would like to watch and increase their HRT score. There're a lot of black stories that have not been touched on at all esp in WW2 but they won't do it because it's not marketable and because it has no inkling to slavery or even racism but just courage and loyalty to the United States.
Racism was a big deal at that time- definitely. All I am saying is what they did is not enough to make a full ass movie. The only reason they did is because they were finding movies they could make about black women in WW2 which is exploiting our community for money- yet again
