Please do not hesitate to reapply again for some of y’all who got denied. Trust me it is just a setback and shouldn’t shake you one bit. Interestingly, i am surprised most folks with huge funding still got denied. Probably the VOs are now stricter or they want some sort of stellar speech from you. Prepare diligently, Pray and Reapply again. For everyone preparing for their interview soon, Please prepare diligently and be careful with the way you respond to some questions. The VO knows when you are just saying it like you crammed it and not making a convincing statement. Look into their eyes, and respond with calmness, yet with an outspoken tone. I wish everyone the best.

Good evening everyone.

Please is it possible to defer admission and resume in the next term after getting visa for a particular term.

For instance, is possible to get Visa in spring and defer to fall without entering the USA?
Yes, this is possible. Your visa is valid from the date you were given till the expiry date that’s on it. You can defer to the next available term in as much you get an updated I-20 that shows your new program start date, then you can travel to the US anytime with your acquired visa before your program start date. This is my opinion. Others can enlighten on this if they know better

Hello gurus

Reading through various transcripts here, I have noticed every says they applied to 2/3 schools. Does that mean that applying to one school alone reduce your chances?
No, it doesn’t reduce your chances in any way. I’m a living case study to that and I’m sure there are thousands who were in the same boat. Not preparing enough for the interview and not having required documents reduces your chances, in my opinion.

Just got my 4000 dollars covid relief fund for students sent to my account today. Here for barely 2 months and I'm already a millionaire as a student. grin grin Please, if you are really interested in studying in the US and have spent lots of money on it, do not relent, it'll pay off!!!

Hello bro. I reached out to my school about this and I was told the Covid relief grant was given to permanent residents students and citizens but not international students. I was told to reach out and ask how international students qualified and received this. So please can you enlighten how international students received this in your school?

Here is my visa approved transcript

Program: Computer Science (Msc)
COA: 42k
Funding: Graduate assistantship
Deficit: 37k

GOD IS THE GREATEST

VO: I see you are going to pursue a masters program in Computer science at bleep university
Me: Yes, that’s correct
Vo: What do you do for a living
Me: I work as an inventory data analyst at bleep company where i develop performance metrics and establish ad-hoc reporting to enhance department efficiency.
Vo: Alright, Why this university ?
Me: I chose this university because it offers students the opportunity to engage and participate in capstone projects of the school which students can leverage as graduate experience. Also, during an email conversation with Dr Bleep, the Graduate Program director, i was informed bleep university offers graduate internship programs just within the two years course of studies, the school has a strong collaboration with the industry which i believe would help me harness the advanced skills and theoretical knowledge of what is taught in class for practical applications in real life scenarios.
Vo: what is your plan after completing your program?
Me: I’ll be coming back to Nigeria to seek reabsorption in my present organization as they have an understanding with me and has given me a 2 years study leave, so i plan on returning to them with the skills i have acquired through this course to help develop innovative and cutting edge solutions that address challenges we face in the company…
Vo: Cuts in, who is sponsoring you?
Me: I have a graduate assistantship and will be sponsored by Bleep business, owned by my elder brother.
Vo: what does he do?
Me: He is an established business man who is into large scale farming in the south western part of the country, he also owns some landed properties and apartments in Bleep state some of which he rents out for residential and commercial purposes.
Vo: types for long.. I will be approving your visa. Bla bla bla
Me: (With a big smile). Thank you very much.

Key Points to Note: The interview lasted for 3 mins
1. Please pray and pray and pray. Honestly I would say God favored me during this interview process, because the Vo which was a white female actually denied two applicants, and i was trying to escape her so I can get interviewed by the white male but as God would have it, we were shifted and i was called by the female VO and God did his work
2. Please prepare and study and speak to an object or something you can focus on while answering your questions during your practice, this really helped me cos i have little difficulties with staring at people in the eyes while talking. I stared at her throughout the whole interview
3. Please be honest and speak the truth with what correlates in your ds-160 form.
4. Now, i feel i have to share this last one with y’all cos I know someone might need it in advance. If you are going to be using your sponsor’s business account for getting your I-20, please have your school make this known on your I-20 , it was just Yesterday that it got dawned on me that my I-20 was showing family funds instead of company funds as sponsor on my I-20, whereas I already filled my sponsor’s business name on my ds-160. Thankfully to God, my school changed the “family funds” to “company funds” on my I-20 and even indicated my sponsor’ business name and his personal name which is my elder brother on the remarks section. Trust me, this really matters if you are going to be using your sponsor’s company statement of account. Everything as to match with your ds-160. Even thankfully for me, I wasn’t asked for my brother’s company statement of account.
5. Thanks to everyone who has posted their transcripts, I really took plenty cues from them cos honestly it helped me prepare well, Good-luck to everyone waiting for their interview. Just be confident and PRAYYYYYYY.

Hello everyone, I have a friend who needs some help and clarification on the sponsor filling on the ds-160 form. His elder brother is his sponsor but it’s his business statement of account he wants to use cos he has enough funds there. He used his brother’s business name and statement of account for the I-20 and indicated his brother’s name as the official representing the agency. Now the question is should he use his brother’s name while filling the sponsor information on the ds-160 or should he use his brother’s business name. Please respond guyss. Thank you

Have you submitted the Ds-160? If Yes, no issues.
Go to the Ds page and fill all the fields then click on "create new application".
Some of your previous datas would come up.
Fill columns that are void with the accurate information you want to input.
Review, and Submit.
Click on "Print confirmation" Download the final copy.
Note the new Ds confirmation number. Go back to your cgi page, update your profile with the new Ds code.
Print out all updated docs and go for your interview.
All the above to be done 72hrs PRIOR your appointment date.
Hope this helps. ✌
As regards to this, i have a question. Do you think it’s advisable to have multiple ds-160 confirmation numbers as one already submitted a former one and it’s stored in their database. Does it have no negative effect whatsoever if one makes another edited ds-160 and submit it??

Me: Good morning Sir,
VO: (Sighted us) wow goodmorning . Have you been to the US before?
Me: No sir
VO: First time
ME: Yes Sir
VO: So where are you going to....
Me: I'm going to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for me their Master of Accounting and Information Systems program.

VO: Has your husband gotten his visa
Me: No sir, he is engaged with his business but will visit us at least once when he can

VO: Have you been here before
Me: Yes Sir, Lagos
VO: When
Me: November last year
VO: Same program
Same program: Yes sir

( At this point I believe he was reading where I wrote three paragraphs under reason for denial, I used this space to explain that it was due to home tie cos I believed leaving my parents date of birth blank affected me but I truly do not have their date of birth information as I lost them both in my teens and have no document containing their date of birth. Also I am married with kids and have all my sisters brothers cousins nephews and nieces here in Nigeria. Also I am a member of ICAN which is my professional family)

VO: How did you hear about this school or was it program (not sure which)
Me: My colleague first mentioned Virginia tech to me and upon further research I found out about the MADA certificate that I will receive in addition to my Master of Accounting and Information Systems Certificate without extending my program duration. I also connected with my program coordinator, Professor Nadia Rogers who also told me more about the program
Have you started classes
No sir but I have registered courses I will be taking this fall

VO: How are you funding this?
My GA and scholarship together cover about 80percent of my program cost

VO: Who is paying for the deficit
Me: My husband
VO: What does he do
Me: He is into the sales of electronics, computers and accessories
VO: How long do you expect your program to last
Me: 2years
Vo: Did you apply to any other school
Me: Yes sir also applied and got admitted to Kansas State university
VO: When is your program start date.
Me: My class starts 23rd August
VO: What was your most recent degree?
ME: I have Bachelor degree in Accounting and also just completed my ICAN exams and got induction May this year.

He said I should fly past some countries in Europe cos of covid

Hurdles I faced included taking passport for 4k cos me and one of my boys had the wrong passport photographs. No ears ...lol

Also I didn't go with my old passport. Explained its cos I wasn't asked for it during my first application in Lagos and it's also virgin passport.
I prayed for God to touch her heart and let the lady checking know it's way back in Lagos. We came all that way.
She let us through but please learn from this and go with yours.

Also of you have been denied before, stay through to your previous answers. If you must adjust your answers, expantiate on it instead.

I'm just happy to be out of this stage of life for now and go get that masters degree.

Best of luck and if your heart say yes...never give up.

Congrats sis!!!

Hello guys. I have a quick question. How does one view the submitted information on the ds-160 form. I just one to cross check and verify if i put in the right info in a delicate section. Is it possible and advisable to use the existing application number to create a new application for the ds-160 just to check and review some information without submitting? Will this affect the already submitted data somehow. Pls I’d appreciate any help on this. I just want to view and cross check info on the ds160 website for an already submitted application and i have already booked my appointment

I have been following quite a number of threads in preparation for my F1 visa interview, and I feel it’s only fair I share my experience so as to help someone else.

My visa interview took place in Lagos on the 22nd of July 2021 10:30am.

Visa Transcript -

VO - Good morning, can I have your documents
Me - I greeted him back and proceeded to hand him my i20 and intl passport.

VO - Why are you going to the US
me - I’m going for my Masters of Business Administration & Management at bla bla bla business school in Boston Massachusetts.

VO - Why did you choose this school.
Me - I chose this school because of its central focus on entrepreneurship as well as an exciting elective titled “Business Strategy in emerging Markets”. For some reason the VO guy nodded.

VO - Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
Me - Yes

VO - Where have you travelled to?
Me - Australia

VO - I see you have a $30k scholarship, how do you intend to cover the rest of your tuition and living expenses?
Me - I have been awarded a student loan by a private company affiliated with the school (I proceeded to hand him a letter from the loan company (prodigy finance) + a sheet with the breakdown of the loan amount, interest rate and loan repayment terms)

VO - How long will it take to pay this money back?
Me - The maximum repayment term is 20years, however because the company uses an APR system, I intend to pay back much sooner to reduce the overall amount I’ll eventually have to pay back. (VO nodded for the second time)

VO - How do you plan to pay this money back?
Me - I have been offered a managerial position in my company (I proceeded to hand over my post-study employment letter from my employer)

VO - (flips through the letter to the salary breakdown section) This amount is your annual salary right?
Me - Yes it is

VO - Are you married?
Me - Yes I am

VO - Do you have any children?
Me - Yes I do. I have a one year old daughter

VO - Why aren’t you travelling with your family?
Me - My wife just started working at a new company less than 6months ago, and she isn’t entitled to an annual leave yet. My daughter is also very young and we have all the help we need in raising our daughter here in Nigeria, in the US we will have no such help. (VO nodded for the third time).

VO - (types fast and said nothing for what felt like 2 long minutes). I’ll be approving your visa, (handed me a white sheet of paper) you can pick your passport up at bla bla bla.

The whole process took less than 5minutes.

My advice to those going for their interview soon -

1. Read through as many visa transcripts on nairaland as you can find. I wasn’t asked any question that I wasn’t prepared for thanks to reading through a lot of transcripts.

2. F1 visa is classified as “non immigrant visa”. You need to show sufficient proof that you have no plans to immigrate permanently to the US. Saying it to the VO is not enough. There were alot of people who said the same “I will be returning to Nigeria after my studies” who got rejected. You need to show proof of ties to Nigeria.

3. Get your financial documents intact. For some reasons most people who had extended family members sponsoring them were denied (eg uncles, aunts, god father etc). You are better off being sponsored by parents or siblings. And they are so much more interested in the careers of your sponsors than just looking through their statement of account details. I didn’t notice anyone being asked for SOA, I certainly wasn’t asked as well (I think they have figured that some people come along with fake SOA).

4. Remain calm. Don’t be ruffled by other peoples interview, no two interviews are exactly the same. I personally tried my hardest not to focus on other people’s interview although for the most part it’s difficult not to hear what’s going on.

Wish you the best. Cheers.

I’m confused guys please shed more light, is it advisable to show the VO proof documents after discussing or answering a question that somewhat requires proof of documentation OR is it better to remain patient and wait till you are asked for any documents??
Pls respond

Dear Applicant,

Your regular B appointment at the US Embassy Abuja has been cancelled.
The Embassy and Consulate General continue to prioritize travelers with urgent travel needs, although regular visa appointments are made available as the local conditions allow. In response to ongoing pandemic-related service disruptions, the Department of State announced the extension of Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee validity until September 30, 2022 for individuals who paid an MRV fee, but were unable to schedule and/or attend an interview during the suspension of services. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the guidance provided at https://ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-expeditedappointment.asp to request an emergency appointment.

I got this mail from the embassy today followed by a text message that says

Your B1/B2 visa appointment at the US Embassy has been cancelled. Please check your email for more details.

Please o...what's the implication of this message?? What should I do? My appointment date is still Intact, but I'm waiting for a response to my emergency interview request...
Please someone that has been through this should answer me Biko

I got this also. But I think you should ignore if your visa is F1

I haven't heard anything since Documentation either, but someone below said they had Assessment Centre exercise in March. The same March we did Documentation. I'm surprised!

Hello, just to let you know I completed my documentation last year August, and I had to wait for almost 7 months before I could do the AC exercise which took place in March. We were four who took AC exercise, it was about Case study and also individual presentation, and lastly a short interview. It was a bit tense, but It went really well overall (I’m hoping for the best). Try to work on your individual presentation because you would be given a range of topics to talk about, and you would have 5 mins to choose one topic and ponder about how you are gonna deliver it, you won’t be allowed to use phones to check Google or anything, So you have to be sharp and critical in your thinking to know how you are going to deliver. The brief interview is basically about questions regarding why KPMG, why do you think you are the best for this role, what skills do you possess, and etc. I hope this helps!!

Please is there anyone here that used the on screen calculator during the workforce on site exam and progressed to the next stage?

Please I really wanna know because sometimes you will need to calculate big figures and decimals, and calculator can only be the solution to be fast
There would be no onscreen or external calculator for the test.
