Dancebreaker: Wrong. A lot of people such as boat people have no IDs. Others came in with irregular documents. I can't say more on this here. So, how do you prove they are Nigerians?
I give you an example. In 1991, we heard that a guy I knew well had been arrested during a routine stop and search.
His appeal had been rejected and he didn't know yet. He was arrested and somehow deported to a French speaking central African country.
But on arrival, immigration didn't accept him because he spoke no French or any local language there. He was returned and released to our surprise. So, imagine if he spoke French.
It's more complex than you think.
Africans will be sent packing while Asians will remain. Not very clever.
FG should use same enthusiasm to stop Boko, ISWAP. bandits, kidnappers, Lakurawa, etc. Nigeria will recognise UK-issued identification letters—documents given to individuals without valid passports—thereby eliminating delays associated with obtaining emergency travel certificates before deportation. Eliminating delayss is different from accepting everything coming your way. There'd be a two sided verification in place. If Nigeria doesn't have the person's records, they shouldn't be accepting such persons. Countries cannot just accept unverified people. There are records for God's sake, maybe not 100%, but there are still records. Nigeria Immigration, NIN, Police, BVN etc are all records and database to confirm from. Each deportee has name, date of birth, place of birth, etc that can be verified. Colluding with criminals to frustrate lawful deportation is not smartness. This has nothing to do with terrorism or enthusiasm. It's commonsense to remove useless bottlenecks. If a Nigerian is a criminal outside Nigeria, Nigeria should gladly receive such person instead of frustrating the process and allowing them constitute nuisance outside our shores. Also from the minister who signed. It's clearly about RETURNING. People who are not Nigerians and never been to Nigeria can't be returned or returning to Nigeria. Let's be calming down. The agreement signed by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on behalf of the government of Nigeria and Home Secretary, Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood on behalf of the UK government, guarantees that returnees will be treated with dignity, rights retention under domestic law, and may re-enter in the future if they meet the applicable immigration requirements.
It also provides detailed arrangements for the dignified return and reintegration of NIGERIANS who do not have the legal right to remain in the UK.
This arrangement includes: the use of secured travel documentation, case-by-case identity verification, and safeguards for vulnerable individuals and potential victims of trafficking.
This framework also sets out clear definitions, scope, and areas of cooperation, including; information sharing, capacity building, training, and joint research on migration management and border security. https://x.com/i/status/2034887247648997567 |

Mrchippychappy: The issue is that you are questioning the justification to withdraw 15 million raised by family and friends of the kidnap victim?
Any rational thinking person or any thinking person for that matter would know that the victim has no leverage in this case and would therefore have to do whatever the kidnappers asked for, You even saw the victim mention the fate of the other kidnapped victims who have some how failed to make their own payments and yet, in all your wisdom, you some how skipped through all of that and decided to question the justification of the family of the victim withdrawing THEIR OWN MONEY to secure the release of a loved one.
I would try not to use any insulting words and I understand that everyone has the right to support any political party, I could care less if anyone thinks the current administration are performing admirably or poorly, however using a case like this to some how victim blame while completely turning a blind eye on the failures of the authorities and leaders who are supposed to prevent this in the first place makes me think very little of you. Since everyone has the right to support any political party, why did you have to go bring up a post i made about politics into crime? Who cares about you or what you think? You think i had you in mind when i posted? i simply raised a point about money tracing. The victim in the OP didn't pay any money, he escaped. But the frequesnt ask for such huge amounts by kidnappers is what i tried questioning. Kidnappers should not be able to easily get such huge amounts without trace, whether 15 or 50million. It's why i mentioned that people shouldn't be able to easily withdraw such huge amounts in cash to go give to kidnappers. (i skipped the option where they'll pay/transfer the money into bank account of the kidnapper as that should not even be existent). Another forum member, Malagans, has poited out the issue of multiple accounts and POS. It's a discussion forum. If you refuse to see things beyond your prism of politics, tribe and religion, that's not my headache. |

Originalsly: Are you sure this is about the deportation of Nigerians? It did not specify and such agreements need to be specific. It said Nigeria will accept individuals with papers issued by UK Immigration. And we wonder why they were toasting him .... butter him up then drop the agreement for him to sign. What is not mentioned is the UK will pay for the maintenance of each deported .....and we already know what will happen to that. Gang members and criminals loading i am guessing they sent the agreement details to you? |
Crime › Re: Woman Jubilates As Kidnapped Husband Escapes After ₦15M Ransom Demand(Photos/Vid by Image123(m): 10:36am On Mar 20 |
JuanDeDios: NO ransom was paid in this case. Thank God. But, yes, people have paid in excess of 15m in the past. And, yes, it shows our security system isn't up to scratch if people are able to pay that kind of money and the bandits are able to disappear with it. Yeah, thanks for the clarification. The point is still valid though. They make it more lucrative in a sense. i agree with your point. |
Crime › Re: Woman Jubilates As Kidnapped Husband Escapes After ₦15M Ransom Demand(Photos/Vid by Image123(m): 10:33am On Mar 20 |
Malagans: Withdraw? How?
The victims families or the kidnappers? Anyone. The monies that are usually demanded should be traceable. Banks should make it difficult and more verifiable for people to just withdraw huge amounts in these times. If not everytime. The money must have a trace. They should make it harder for people to gather such huge cash to deliver to kidnappers. Bank transactions should be easier and more preferred to cash withdrawal for such huge amounts. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Nigeria Agrees To Receive Offenders, Failed Asylum Seekers From UK by Image123(m): 10:28am On Mar 20 |
Dancebreaker: It also means that anybody with black skin whose country won't accept can be issued with UK identity document making him Nigerian. And be deported to Nigeria.
Remember that Trump deported Colombians, Venezuelans, and others to El Salvador abi na wetin be that country.
Many countries simply refuse to admit anyone without ID is not issued by the home country. No, it means Nigeria will recognise UK-issued identification letters—documents given to individuals without valid passports—thereby eliminating delays associated with obtaining emergency travel certificates before deportation. Deported people have identities, they came into the country with passports and have records. Some people throw away their passports, destroy it or whatever to frustrate deportation procedure. |

How on earth is anyone allowed to withdraw 15million naira cash. Such amount must have a lot of justification. Why can't we have simple paper trail. i want to assume the ransom was not done by bank transfer. These kind of monies should not be easy to withdraw in cash. |

Fxwarrior: I hope you understand that the senior officer is not against extortion but prefer he takes them to office for the real one.
Is it better to drop #200 at road or #200 000 at office? Reason it. If the official fine is not cash but epayment to a publicly known government account, it'd reduce. Because the fine will have description and will be standard state wide or nation wide. Unfortunately, Nigerians love shortcuts themselves. |

GanagiBitrus: If they are really serious about stopping this police extortion, just use this same tactics, catch some & set example with them. & others will stop.
But then, some ogas on top want the extortion to continue because they receive their own share of the loot. It's a bit crude. We can employ technology like making video recordings necessary part of interactions, duty police having to wear compulsory body cam, making e-payment compulsory, etc. They'd as usual frustrate the process but it's better in the long run if consistent. Let there be central supervision of body cam videos by multiple agencies and stakeholders. That's also job creation in a sense. i tell you, humans fear the unknown eye that might be watching them than they fear God. |
