OP: Only you know the person very well. As per the money, yes things are tough in Nigeria if he doesnt have a job. Most Nigerians living abroad send more than that  to their loved ones. Yes, it's customary for Nigerians to expect some money from someone who lives overseas.
The money is one thing, but if he is having sex, have a girlfriend or wife that I can't take and I don't know how to really know if he is.

My OP was mostly about that, but most here jumped on the money part only.

ok this is GETTING MAD ANNOYING!

@Imari, I really don't see the need to post any scanned pictures or messages on this forum.
You owe nobody on here any explanations much less proof of anything at all. By scanning and posting you
look like you've taken this personally. In that case I'd just ignore them and move on to the mature folks.
They cannot see your IP address and even if they could (which they can't) who would be that jobless to go
out of their way? Females and males ALIKE will hate on you, as some ppl will dislike you just because.
That is a lesson to be learned in real life and has been demonstrated on this site day after day.

Just ignore them and move on, they dont pay your bills hun.

A$s tongue as for the person who posted the *ish about Plat, I hope everything you said in her absence, you had the "balls"
to say while she was here. . .but more than likely you like everything you do, band-wagoned and waited for your cue. . .
"monkey see monkey do!". In your case literally.  tongue
You are correct and I do, take personal being called a liar on something I know is truth.

I admit to thin skin at times.

I posted the scans to really get rid of that topic of conversation, now any poster who persists in floating that IP addy or Nigerian cybercafe only look more the fool.

She is not a fool. She is only being honest. I know a similar case and they later got married. In fact, the American mama came to Nigeria and was welcomed by my friend and his family.  The news was in the Daily Sun of Nigeria and after their wedding, he joined her  later. And they are both fine. Only very few guys in Nigeria will swindle an American woman who loves them.
Sorry that I missed your post.

That is the whole of it, I do love him he says that he loves me more than anything

It's mostly him saying that he has not had sex in 3 years.
I worry about that being a lie since he is so young in my eyes and after all he is a man.  That makes it hard for me to believe.
Whenever I have brought that up to him he gets angry saying that he would never cheat on his wife and resent that I would think he would.

james1:
@poster.if u are for real;dump that guy like he got ebola virus.
I am for real.

Since he has not asked for any money in months (he's only mentioned the two big amounts months ago) and I haven't sent him any money in months.
Money is not involved exactly at this present time.

Go to CVS and buy you a sanitary pad (thats ladylike). Post the receipt. I realize you have just changed your SOCKS; so i hope the admin is not mixing up your location.
There is no CVS close to my house, Walgreens is just a few blocks away but see the above post.

Who said I was a "lady"?

I am a woman but that "lady like" stuff is for those softee females.

My Nigerian has that problem with me and then I am very willful, and stubborn.

Also, I am more of a lady than to discuss feminine products with any man that is not my boyfriend or husband.

I admitted to not parting details that my Nigerian would know here as I try hard not to LIE because most times it's useless as you can lie so much and forget the lies you told the next time.

@ms imari, just wanna add ma own 2 cents advise here.

First of all i think the best way to determine the whole truth is to travel to naija
4get abt what people say abt the image of the naija, come to think abt it if its that
bad the US embassy there would have closed down long ago, good thign you are
already connecting with some of the posters here, plan your trip with one of them
who could help as a tour guide/advisor stay in your hotel room,go out with only your
tour guide and you should be fine.

Forget abt trying to buy him a plane ticket, cuz the American Embassy wouldn't issue
him a visa to start with, those "white american embassy consular mofos" are so hostile
on young black africans, especially a Nigerian.Your best bet is coming down here establishing
a relationship take photographs with each other, and don't even make the mistake of marrying
him straight cuz when you get to the US embassy with him,you may get the shocker of your life
when one of them white mofos start to scrutinize you thinking you were probably paid to set up
the all thign ,just for being african american traveling down for the first time to nigeria and choosing
to marry a nigerian and actually taking him back with you to the states, which rarely happens this days.
But by going atleast once a yr for the next 2yrs you would find out for yourself alot and atlease know
what your own fate is,but like i stated earlier this is just my own 2 cents advise, all the best.
Thank You

Your "2 cents" was worth a lot to me. smiley

My understanding of a cougar is an old woman that goes after younger men. Based on my understanding, the relationships do not actually mature into anything productive. However, if you enjoy playing Suga mama, then good for you. Like I said before I think that you are a "financial fairy godmother" who has doled out around $7,200 if anything you have said here is true.

Since it is your money I said if you enjoy giving then more "grease to your elbow" (or something like that). No need to complain. That is if this story of yours has not been concocted to get responses.
Your understand is somewhat in line to what a Cougar is.

I guess you didn't understand the rest of what I posted, being that what is "based" on your understanding is only one of the many things that can happen as in any relationship.

You wonder, yet you respond.  smiley

Mrs.Chima:
Imari,

If you are telling the truth, Just like anywhere you have to be careful meeting someone you haven't seen IN PERSON especially across continent.  You have to be careful meeting strange men in a foreign country where you have no families nor friends.  Police aren't reliable over there and Embassy can only do so much.

If you must meet you sugar boy, bring a girlfriend with you so that you can at least have someone that you know with you.  You can also invite a brother or an uncle who wouldn't mind meeting your sugar boy.

The bottom line is BE SAFE AND SMART.
Mrs. Chima

In my last post to you I was only using your word as a play on words to say I understand you fully, the "my arse" I don't even use that word. Well, not spelled like that anyway grin

That is why I am here and posted as I did, the thread title says "American needs help"

That help I am seeking from those who know their countrymen as I have stated I know very little about Nigerian men.

I have gained a lot of insight from this thread as I haven't talked with him since I posted it.  I am giving myself time to straighten all that has been said out in my mind before I confront him with anything.
I can't run into a conversation with all this new found knowledge about Nigeria as I want him to believe it's all still good to see where he is coming from I will mete out little by little.

I said that I haven't sent him any money in months now as the plan was for him to come for Christmas this year and that would give enough time for two big amounts, so I am ok with not sending any cash, as of now we just talk about things.

You know in 2011 I can't fathom how people are still being "scammed". Instead of saying this woman is being  "scammed" she should be called a "financial fairy godmother." While the man might or might not be telling her a few choice lies, the decision to send $200/month * 3yrs is her personal financial decision.

I don't know many American men who are willing to date women that are 20 yrs older than them, so I'm not sure why someone would think that a. . .

This incident sort of reminds me a topic where a 50 something year old British grandma went and married a 20 something year old man. When she found out he had been using her, she refused to divorce him.
So, there is no such thing as a Cougar in Nigeria?

Of course there is just one standard and you know nothing of anything that is not of this one standard?

People of all ages and sexes can and do get use by those who only intention is to use them for their gain.

That is not the case each and every time for the same exact situation, but is very unfortunate for the one who was used.

He only make up a fake story but in the end of the day, its her choice to give out the money or not and just like that he was release. What a lucky b4st4rd!
You are so right.

I believe it has more to do with people seeing the Black as in Nigerians and they are then easily scapegoated for the rest of the world.

Mostly in the Northeast of the U.S. there is/was a big problem with Russian scammers and I have seen lists on the internet about them also, but they have not gotten the big press of Nigerian scammers.

My best advice for you is to take the bold steps and visit him here in nigeria, no one can come into conclusion for now cos we don't know maybe he truly need your assistance or not, "there are alot of scammers in africa doesn't mean everyone is a fraudster " u know.

Lastly, don't let mrs.chima's word discourage u for you not to come cos she's also once like u who came down to africa for her man, we aint evil but good ppl you would love to be with, besides u are not the first american woman to visit nigeria and u can never be the last so why shivering? u if can't do just that then u will always be victim of scam so its better to back off from long distance internet dating.
I am repeating myself once again.

My Nigerian has long ago invited me to come to Nigeria as he would love to show me his country.

A little bit off the topic of this thread but to the post that claim I am not American because of how I have posted.

Do you have any idea of how many different dialects are spoken in my one state only and probably many different ones in my city alone?

Each region of this country has it's very own way of speaking, just as (I am sure and have seen displayed not only here on this forum but in this very thread) with your country.  Some of you have named different places based upon what you know of the dialect of that particular place which shows that I am correct in what I said.

For any of you to base your false assumption upon the belief that ALL Americans speak in a certain way is just that, a false assumption and you are showing your great lack of any REAL knowledge of that of which you gleefully triumph in as a victory of righteousness as having somehow unmasked me as not being an American.

How many of you know how a Cajun speaks, Gullah, Cali, Texas drawl, the dialect of the people in the Appalachian mountains, those in Brooklyn, Creoles, the Midwest, Massachusetts, etc. etc. etc.?

Many of you have shown that you are not the real people I was of the belief that you were.

I do not regret coming here or posting what I did, as I have learn somethings about Nigeria and some of it's people here that I am very happy about, so whatever you think that is all on YOU, I just like to set records straight and speak my mind where I can.

To a certain point I changed some of the details and IF any of you actually read my posts in this thread I long ago stated that FACT and my reasons for doing so as not to have my Nigerian know who I am just in case he is a member of Nairaland.

As for, my Americaness, NONE of you have the proper grasp of how an American speaks as demonstrated in the words you yourselves have used in your very own posts.

My IP is not known to anyone here except for the administrators of this forum, not unless what I have read in the rules is not the truth, it states that IP addresses can not be seen by other posters and that my very own IP (that only I can see) is subject to change from time to time.
