COMMISSIONER BOB INSPECTS A’IBOM AIRPORT, AS APRIL DEADLINE FOR INT'L FLIGHTS DRAWS NEARER The Akwa Ibom State Supervisory Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Emem Almond Bob, has again assured of the State's readiness to begin international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport at the beginning of the second quarter of the year. The Commissioner spoke Thursday, after leading a delegation from the Ministry on an inspection tour of the entire airport facility. The inspection covered critical infrastructure and operational areas, including the access road within the terminal building, parking lot, apron, taxiway, security / operational perimeter fencing, Smart Internet installation, as well as the power transmission and transformer area and medium voltage power panels, among others. Bob, who earlier had a strategic technical meeting with all contractors and engineers on site to appraise the level of work done, said with the smooth pace of work, he was very optimistic that the April timeline would be met. He noted that the Governor was very committed to delivering the world class facility for international use within the stipulated timeframe, noting that the current level of progress gives confidence that the April timeline for international operations will be achieved. Commisioner Bob explained that as the supervising ministry in charge of the actualization of the new international airport terminal, it was within their oversight to regularly have a technical meeting with all the contracting firms to assess their quality of work and identify existing gaps. "As a ministry, we are here today to inspect and assess key operational areas, identify infrastructure gaps, and ensure timely interventions to guarantee a seamless take-off of international flights," the Commissioner stated Responding to questions from the media on whether the Committee on the Actualization of the Airport would visit the facility before the inaugural flight, the Commissioner explained that the Committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, was actively working. He noted that his presence at the site was in his capacity as the Supervisory Commissioner of the Ministry and assured that meetings would be convened as necessary to address areas of concern, adding that inspections would continue up to the very last day before the commencement of international operations at the airport. Taking the Commissioner around all components of the new terminal building, the Chairman of VKS Construction, Engr. Oliver Ebong highlighted that works were ongoing in all the areas requiring urgent attention to ensure full completion of the facility and assured that the terminal would be ready for use by the end of March. Recall that Governor Umo Eno had inaugurated a committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah to oversee the full implementation of the international status of the Victor Attah International Airport, following a technical assessment visit by a Federal Government team led by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, to commence the process of giving effect to the international operations at the airport. Ephraim Udosen; Managing Director, Airport Development Authority, Uwem Ekanem, Director of Project Implementation and Coordination, Arc. Ekawan Alale; Director of Geo-Technical Services, Mrs. Helen Daniel; Clark works for the Terminal Building, Arc. Christopher Enyekung among others. .

RIGHT OF REPLY 76 OIL WELLS AND THE BURDEN OF FACTS: WHY AKWA IBOM STANDS ON LAW, NOT SENTIMENT By Aniekan Umanah Have facts ever been so stubbornly denied in plain sight? Recent calls from the Cross River Patriotic Front for the “return” of 76 oil wells allegedly “taken” from Cross River State are not just misplaced , they reveal a startling poverty of knowledge and a dangerous confusion between sentiments and law. Let us ask plainly: When did emotional appeal ever override constitutional authority? When did aspiration become a substitute for binding judicial pronouncement? The spinned controversy re-emerging around these oil wells is not new. This dispute was exhaustively examined, reviewed, and conclusively settled by Nigeria’s highest court and confirmed by relevant institutions. Yet, instead of engaging these facts, some “patriots” are riding a wave of sentiment that lack facts, legal grounding and logical coherence. First, the 76 oil wells rightly belong to Akwa Ibom State. Based on established maritime boundaries and internationally accepted hydrographic unchanging coordinates, these wells lie within Akwa Ibom’s littoral territory. Their attribution is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of geography and law. So, we must ask: Since the wells are not in Cross River’s maritime space and the State is non littoral , by what miracle of logic can they suddenly belong to Cross River? Second, oil well allocation is driven by law and location, not sentiment. In both Nigerian constitutional practice and international maritime jurisprudence, oil wells follow lines on a map determined by legally enforceable boundary adjudications , not by rallies or press releases. Third, the Supreme Court judgement remains supreme and final. Under Section 235 of the 1999 Constitution, the judgment of the Supreme Court cannot be reversed by committee, by rhetoric, or by press releases alone. The apex court ruled that Cross River State, having lost its littoral status following the cession of the Bakassi Peninsula, no longer qualifies as a coastal state for offshore derivation claims. No counter-claim has overthrown this conclusion. How, then, can one claim ignorance of the Constitution as if it were optional? Fourth, the Bakassi cession did not transfer oil wells to Cross River State. The cession of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon was implemented via an International Court of Justice judgment of 2002 and subsequent treaty. That process did not, and legally could not, translate into transferring offshore assets outside the ceded territory to Cross River State. Does pains over the loss of Bakassi give licence for rewriting legal history? Fifth, due process was followed in attributing the wells to Akwa Ibom. Federal technical institutions , including the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), National Boundary Commission (NBC), and the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) , relied on technical data to determine entitlement. These are constitutional bodies charged with precisely this function. Can they shift the goal post of static coordinates of geography ?Mere assertions can not shift empirical status of coordinates. Sixth, the Supreme Court judgment is not an interpretive suggestion , it is binding law. No inter-agency committee, no press statement , not even a patriotic front, may sit in appeal over the Supreme Court. That conclusion is not a political position; it is constitutional fact. Seventh, emotive appeals cannot displace settled legal reality. The loss of Bakassi was deeply felt by many Nigerians and is rightly remembered as a historic moment. But grief does not create rights where none exist.Sympathy does not confer jurisdiction. The law does. Eighth,We must ask the Patriots plainly: Are you calling for judicial pronouncements to be overridden by emotional pleas? Are you suggesting that opinion should eclipse the highest court in the land? Haba Patriots ! These are not questions of patriotism. They are questions of legitimacy. Finally, justice is served only by fidelity to facts and fidelity to law. Attempts to divert lawfully allocated derivation revenue or to recast maritime boundaries without judicial backing threaten constitutional and fiscal order, undermine national cohesion, and destroy the Ruke or Law . Akwa Ibom State has always sought only peaceful engagement, and respect for judicial finality. It remains committed to cooperation and unity. But it will defend what is rightfully hers , not with sentiment, not with slogans, but with law and documented fact. For clarity , the 76 Oil wells or any other within the same maritime corridor are not lost assets waiting to be “returned.” They are firmly and finally vested in Akwa Ibom State by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. No petition, committee, or press statement , no matter how passionately worded , can alter that reality. Thank you Patriots !

The Governor gave the assurance during his visit to the Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, where he attended the community’s general meeting on Sunday, February 8, 2026, and engaged members on the development priorities of his administration under the ARISE Agenda. Addressing the gathering, Governor Eno disclosed plans for the Ibom Hotels and Apartments Project in Abuja, which will replace the moribund old liaison office, transforming the asset into a viable hospitality and commercial hub capable of generating revenue for the state and creating employment opportunities. He also announced plans for the development of an Ibom Housing Estate in Abuja to provide decent and affordable accommodation for Akwa Ibom indigenes resident in the nation’s capital. Beyond road infrastructure, the Governor highlighted several key projects executed by his administration across multiple sectors, stressing that development under the ARISE Agenda extends well beyond the construction of 1,210 kilometres of roads across the state. According to him, the administration is currently implementing 84 priority projects strategically spread across critical sectors including tourism, transportation, aviation, maritime development, healthcare, education, rural development, housing, water supply, and economic empowerment. “Our development drive is holistic. Beyond roads, we have deliberately focused on projects that directly touch lives and strengthen communities across Akwa Ibom State,” Governor Eno said. Earlier, the President of the Community, Nkpisong Barr. Gabriel Fan, commended Governor Eno for the developmental strides recorded under the ARISE Agenda and pledged the full support of the community for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno ahead of 2027. He also decorated the Governor as the Grand Patron of the Community, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to the welfare of Akwa Ibom people. As a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of the community, Governor Eno donated an 18-seater bus to the Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, a gesture that drew applause from members and guests. He commended the leadership of the community for fostering unity and maintaining strong ties with developments back home, noting that Akwa Ibom people resident in Abuja remain critical stakeholders in the state’s growth journey. Members and leaders of the community praised Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership style, people-centred governance, and visible development strides, assuring him of their continued support. The visit, marked by warmth and renewed commitment, further reinforced Governor Umo Eno’s resolve to carry every Akwa Ibom citizen along in the state’s development process, while strengthening the bond between Akwa Ibom State and its vibrant diaspora community in Abuja.

Governor Eno Driving Efficiency and Accountability through Digital Reforms - Dr Ndueso The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno is committing to transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery through digital reforms, merit-based recruitment, and equitable distribution of projects and programmes to all parts of the State. His priority on healthcare delivery through sustained investments in the health sector, ongoing recruitment of health workers, health insurance and new health facilities, show his passion the the wellbeing of his people. Speaking on an ADBN TV programme "Niger Delta Today", the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, said the administration’s social intervention programmes, civil service reforms, and recruitment processes were deliberately structured to eliminate favoritism and ensure fairness. According to him, the state’s adoption of digital platforms has significantly enhanced monitoring, accountability, and transparency across government institutions, particularly within the civil service. “Everything is now digital. From recruitment to performance monitoring, processes are automated, traceable, and transparent. "You no longer need to rely on personal connections or old records. With a click, activities can be tracked in real time and this increases proficiency, efficiency and accountability". Dr. Ndueso explained that the ongoing civil service recruitment exercise conducted strictly through an electronic process supervised by the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy, barred any attempt to influence the process. “I have friends and relatives who call, believing that knowing someone in government would give them an advantage. I told them clearly that it was impossible.“ He disclosed that candidates who scored below the required pass mark of 50 were not shortlisted, regardless of status, adding that the Civil Service Commission maintained strict adherence to that stipulation throughout the exercise. On healthcare delivery, Dr. Ndueso described the sector as a top priority of the administration, citing massive investments in infrastructure, personnel recruitment, and emergency response systems. He highlighted the state’s emergency ambulance service, explaining that residents can access urgent medical care by dialing dedicated emergency numbers, with ambulances arriving fully equipped to administer treatment en route to hospitals. “These ambulances are not just vehicles, they are mobile treatment centres. Medical personnel begin treatment immediately, while the control room communicates with the receiving hospital ahead of arrival to ensure preparedness". He stressed that the current administration had taken concrete steps to address lapses through training, monitoring, and stricter oversight. The media aide also addressed concerns about misinformation and public communication, revealing that from February, commissioners and key appointees would begin regular media engagements coordinated by the Ministry of Information. “This administration believes governance must be open and accountable. The Governor directed monthly press briefings, radio programmes, and regular engagements, designed to keep the public informed and provide a channel for feedback". He added that the governor has kept to his promise of personally monitoring projects across the state, embarking on unscheduled visits to verify reports from his monitoring teams. “The Governor does not sit in his office waiting for reports. He goes out to see things for himself. That is why contractors are held accountable and projects are delivered according to specification and timely".

GOV ENO URGES A’IBOM PEOPLE TO ACCEPT PASTOR YUSUF’S APOLOGY, DIRECTS HALTING OF LEGAL PROCEEDINGS AGAINST HIM … says GIFA’s 2nd Anniversary will hold February 20 Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has appealed to citizens of the State to accept the apology tendered by the Lead Pastor of Household of Love Churches, Rev. Yinka Yusuf, following his reported unguarded utterances and inflammatory comments against the State and its people. Speaking at the February edition of the Government House Covenant Service held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, the Governor said that since Rev. Yinka has apologised, Akwa Ibom people should accept it and put the entire issue behind them. He noted that Akwa Ibom people are very hospitable and accommodating and, therefore, should accommodate Rev. Yinka and not hold his unfair utterances against him. “As a State, we have put this behind us. We have accepted the apologies. And we are even more blessed by the Founder and General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, who was here in the State at the same time for a five-day crusade of his Church.” Governor Eno also appreciated the security agencies for their diligence, timely intelligence gathering, and prompt intervention in the matter. He disclosed that he has directed the State Attorney General to halt the preparation of legal proceedings against Rev. Yusuf. “The youth had already picked up his abusive tape and were ready to do terrible things against him if not for the timely intervention of the security agencies to stop him from coming into the State. “We, as a government, have always prayed against anything evil happening to any of our guests. We are very hospitable and accommodating people. We always ensure our dignitaries come in peace and leave in peace,” he said. The Governor also announced the commemoration of the 2nd Anniversary of the Golden Initiative for All, which will hold on February 20, 2026, at Ibom Hall, Uyo. “Incidentally, the date falls on the birthday of my beloved wife, who had gone to be with the Lord. So, we will be celebrating her posthumous birthday on that date as well. Let everyone kindly join us for the events,” he said. Preaching on the theme, “But the Lord stands beside like a great warrior,” drawn from Jeremiah 20:11, the Lead Pastor of Honeystreams Church, Pastor (Dr.) Akomaye Ugar, said every power needs God to function. He admonished Christians to experience the power of God in their lives and situations, always call on God by faith, fill their spirits with the Word of God, and keep their covenant with God. The service, which featured sessions of inspirational praises, worship, choir ministrations, and prayers, had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki; the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; members of the State Executive Council; political stalwarts; captains of industry; members of the clergy; other government officials; and Christians across the State.

GOVERNMENT OF AKWA IBOM STATE January 30, 2026 PRESS RELEASE HATE SPEECH AND PASTOR YINKA YUSUF’S VITRIOLIC OUTBURST AGAINST AKWA IBOM STATES 1. The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken note of reactions across social media following the decision of the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company Limited (APICO) to deny the use of the Ibom Hall Grounds for a proposed crusade by Pastor Yinka Yusuf. 2. For the avoidance of doubt, the decision was not based on any prevailing security situation, as no such condition exists in Akwa Ibom State. Rather, it was informed solely by the vile, denigrating, and inflammatory comments made against the people of the State by Pastor Yusuf in a widely circulated video, in which he crudely stereotyped and insulted the collective identity, dignity, and intelligence of Akwa Ibom people. These comments constitute a direct affront to the approximately 7.9 million citizens of the State, understandably inflamed public sentiment, and must be condemned by all peace-loving, right-thinking members of society. 3. Such utterances are inciting, morally objectionable, and completely inconsistent with the essence of Christianity, which is founded on love, respect, humility, and the winning of souls, not the denigration of a people. Hate speech is not evangelism, and insults are not a substitute for doctrine. We do not, and will never, expect any Akwa Ibomite to be a member of a church, ministry, or crusade built on contempt for their identity. 4. It is instructive that Akwa Ibom State is led by a Governor who is himself a Pastor and who governs with Christian values and virtues, demonstrating daily that faith and public leadership can coexist with tolerance, responsibility, and respect for human dignity. 5. Historically, Akwa Ibom people have exemplified enlightenment, tolerance, and leadership for nearly a century. As far back as 1936, our forebears initiated the first community-sponsored overseas scholarship scheme in this part of Africa, producing the famed Merchants of Light—nation builders who returned to serve Nigeria with distinction. Among them were Sir Egbert Udo Udoma, the first Nigerian to earn a PhD in Law and later a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Chief Justice and Acting President of Uganda; Bassey Attah, Nigeria’s first postgraduate degree holder in Agriculture; and Ibanga Udo Akpabio, pioneer educationist and Minister of State for Education in the First Republic. 6. In the same spirit, Akwa Ibom indigenes were pioneers of Christian evangelism, taking the Gospel through the Qua Iboe Church from present-day Akwa Ibom to other parts of Nigeria, including Kogi State, with humility and respect for local cultures, never with insults, stereotypes, or contempt. Christianity in Akwa Ibom has always been expressed through service, sacrifice, and honour, not provocation. 7. The State has produced some of Nigeria’s most consequential national figures across different spheres. These include Wellington Bassey, Nigeria’s first commissioned military officer; Dominic Ekanem, the first Anglophone Bishop and Nigeria’s first Cardinal; Clement Isong, the first indigenous Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok, former Chief of Air Staff; and Philip Effiong, whose actions brought the Nigerian Civil War to an end. Since the return of democracy, this tradition has continued from Obong Victor Attah, to Chief Godswill Akpabio, now President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; then Mr. Udom Emmanuel; and now Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, who is deliberately positioning Akwa Ibom State on the global map. 8. Unarguably, Akwa Ibom is renowned for its warmth, hospitality, and openness. The State remains peaceful and welcoming a destination of choice for conferences, tourism, business, and religious activities. It boasts one of the best stadia at the sub-national level, now an official home of the Super Eagles of Nigeria; operates one of the best airlines in the country; and maintains an extensive, high-quality road network across all local government areas. 9. Globally respected evangelists regularly hold crusades in Akwa Ibom State. At present, the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, is in the State for a crusade, further underscoring Akwa Ibom’s openness and religious tolerance. Notably, Pastor Kumuyi formally notified the State and paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, at the Government House, Uyo. This is the expected standard of conduct, process, and respect from genuine men of God. 10. By contrast, Pastor Yusuf showed blatant disregard for due process and established protocol. He failed to engage relevant government agencies responsible for security, crowd control, and emergency response; did not consult the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) or the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Akwa Ibom State; and made unverifiable claims of having over 5,000 participants allegedly coming from across the world. The Government hereby challenges Pastor Yusuf to publicly provide credible proof of these claims. 11. Where foreign participants or large gatherings are involved, it is mandatory for organisers to notify appropriate authorities to enable Government to discharge its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property. Disrespect for process and protocol is unacceptable, particularly when combined with hate speech and deliberate provocation. 12. Taken together, these facts leave no doubt that Pastor Yusuf’s actions were not motivated by the preaching of love or unity, but by a conscious attempt to provoke, insult, and sow division. His conduct is therefore unacceptable and must be rejected by all peace-loving people. *ACCORDINGLY, THE AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT STATES CLEARLY, WITHOUT ANY EQUIVOCATION THAT WE DO NOT, WELCOME PASTOR YINKA YUSUF”S SUSPICIOUS CRUSADE IN THE STATE DUE TO HIS DENIGRATING ACTIONS, DEFAMATORY UTTERANCES, AND OPEN DISRESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE, VALUES, AND LAWFUL AUTHORITY OF THE STATE*. 13. While it is noted that Pastor Yusuf has since taken his crusade elsewhere, he owes the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State an unreserved apology for his deliberate incitement and denigration. The defamatory video has been referred to the Honourable Attorney-General of the State for review, and failure to tender such an apology may leave the Government with no option but to seek legal redress. 14. The Akwa Ibom State Government therefore fully supports the decision of the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company Limited to deny the use of the Ibom Hall Grounds for an event anchored on hate, disrespect, and incitement. 15. Akwa Ibom State remains peaceful. Our people are united, industrious, proud of their heritage, and confident in the developmental direction of the State under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, whose ARISE Agenda continues to position Akwa Ibom as a beacon of progress, harmony, and enlightened leadership. Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah Hon. Commissioner for Information

AKSG CIVIL SERVICE RECRUITMENT: ORAL INTERVIEWS COMMENCE WITH HEALTH SECTOR CANDIDATES The Akwa Ibom State Government has commenced the final stage of its recruitment exercise with oral interviews for all candidates who scored above 50 at the computer based written tests last year. The Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekereobong Umoh, during the commencement of the exercise in her commission on Monday, stated that the exercise is starting with the health sector in line with the specific directive of Governor Umo Eno to bolster the state's medical workforce. Mrs. Umoh noted that the commission is currently screening pharmacists, radiographers, medical professionals and pharmacy technicians. "We are starting with the health sector that has about 25 cadres that we are going to address in the next two weeks or so," she said. "His Excellency gave a separate approval that many health workers should be brought in to strengthen the service." She commended the Governor for establishing a smooth and merit-based process, emphasizing that the era of political patronage in recruitment has been replaced by a system where if you pass, you pass. Mrs. Umoh revealed that only candidates who scored 50% and above in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) were shortlisted for the oral interview and anyone who sundered to the venue without the required score is shown the door immediately. The Commission Chairman issued a stern warning to candidates to come with original copies of their certificates, stressing that the Civil Service does not offer appointments based on notification of results alone. "From what we've seen today, some candidates came with notification of results. We have told them they must go back and bring their original certificates. That is what the civil service handles," Umoh clarified. She further explained that the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy is actively involved in the exercise, handling the accreditation of qualified candidates to ensure the integrity of the process. Addressing concerns over "godfatherism," Mrs. Umoh assured the public that the exercise would be transparent and based strictly on vacancy positions and merit. "A lot of persons know me. I have my integrity and I will work to fulfill what His Excellency intended. If you don't have any person, you have God and you have the process set up by the Governor; then you are good to go," she asserted. She added that while the state cannot fill all vacancies in a single day, successful candidates will be placed based on available positions in the service. Some of the candidates expressed satisfaction with the seamless process of the exercise. They thanked Governor Umo Eno for creating a conducive environment and said the exercise was credible. Dr. Victor Edom, an indigene of Uruan Local government, thanked Governor Umo Eno for creating a conducive environment and said he was invited after scoring over 70 in the CBT test. “I got the email inviting me to the test on Friday and I thank God I’ve been able to make it to the oral interview today. I appreciate the Governor for this transparent process.”

Mandate Eyes Press Release IS PAPA-J'S FRIEDFISH A CRITIC OR A CLOWN? The Mandate Eyes has observed the series of baseless attention seeking and frustration based bitter biles spewed by an unknown individual Tom Friedfish, hiding under the template of PAPA-J, whatever that means. The Mandate Eyes notes that PAPA-J's criticisms of the Akwa Ibom State government under the leadership of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD are baseless and lack substance, reflecting the group's frustration and irrelevance. The FriedFish, appears to be expressing disappointment stemming from stellar performance of Governor Eno, and his efforts at uniting the State, which accounts for the Governor’s general acceptability and endorsements from across the State. It's understandable to have differing opinions, but it's crucial to do so constructively. Pastor Umo Eno’s endorsements, is a democratic expression of the people's will, and his administration is committed to delivering results which the Friedfish should get used to, by now. Akwa Ibom State is indeed moving forward, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD. The administration has initiated and completed several projects across various sectors, including healthcare and infrastructure. Examples include the operational oxygen gas plant at Ituk Mbang hospital, functional health centers in each local government area, and ongoing /completed road projects. In Abak where this Friedfish hails from, the Abak 10 road project is nearly completed, the Ukpom Abak - Pepsi Junction Road had been completed and commissioned, the Ikot Ekan- Ediene Abak Road is underway, the Ikot Ekang - Abak Itenge and adjoining roads are almost ready, the model school at Hosptal Road has been completed, is Friedfish too blind to see these? Rather than focusing on baseless criticisms, it's more productive to acknowledge the efforts being made to improve the lives of Akwa Ibomites. His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD's administration is committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and effectively. The CNG bus project is a prime example of the administration's pragmatic approach. With projected timelines and standard proposals guiding the process, Akwa Ibomites can expect a well-executed project that will benefit the state. It's telling that FriedFish is fixated on a 3-month gap between the arrival of the CNG buses and the completion of the service station. To the discerning people of Akwa Ibom State, this seems like a minor detail in the grand scheme of things. Isn't it uncharitable and even mischievous of FriedFish to be nitpicking on such a trivial issue, rather than acknowledging the bigger picture of progress and development? It's laughable that PAPA - J is archaic and out of touch to understand that AkwaIbomites can't wait to have an efficient transport system that makes transportation easier across all the local government areas. Constructive criticism is acceptable, but it should be based on facts and a genuine desire to contribute to the state's progress. Tom FriedFish and PAPA-J would do well to focus on appreciating the positive developments in Akwa Ibom State. The people of Akwa Ibom State are aware of the administration's efforts and are supportive of the progress being made. His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD's leadership has brought hope and optimism to the state. The administration is committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure the state achieves its full potentials. Ultimately, Akwa Ibom State's progress is what matters most, and His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD's administration is delivering just that – results and service with integrity. On a lighter note, PAPA-J sounds like an Ijebu native doctor name seeking to defraud innocent people of their hard-earned money with quick wealth rituals. FriedFish should first register this group and consider a membership drive before further constituting himself into a public nuisance. Micheal Okon Director of Public and Strategic Communications, Mandate Eyes

BIGGER PARADIGMS IN ENOIDEM’S PROGRESSIVE EMBRACE “With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts” - Eleanor Roosevelt. There is a consequential win for the future of Akwa Ibom State, accompanied by an avalanche of new strengths and ideas capable of ushering in a new day. The strongest of what was left when Governor Umo Eno took a walk from the Peoples Democratic Party to All Progressives Congress has embraced the progressive movement. As all roads lead to the Etim Ekpo Stadium for the official reception of the Former National Legal Adviser of the PDP and National Chairman of the Maintain Peace Movement, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, to the APC, the floodgates of political commentaries on political goings-on in the Land of Promise have been thrown open. Barr. Enoidem is not just one in the listings of new progressives, he was the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general election. Whatever division of the narrative we choose, he was on the ballot both as a matter of his right and in defense of the political interests and ideology of his party. More than his senatorial ambition, Enoidem who was National Chairman of the Maintain Peace Movement, a political machinery that midwifed the emergence of Governor Umo Eno as the fifth democratically elected Governor of the State, when it mattered most stuck to his convictions, daring where angels would not, even when it was never convenient. He nonetheless lived his words in the promise to see his former party through its last days. And more than the ego of resisting the numerous voices of reason and overtures, especially the Governor’s, the learned silk is simply reuniting with his political family to deepen gains of an administration he traversed various communities, hamlets and courtrooms to bring to life. Assuming the last of his roles in the PDP were to be that of a pallbearer, posterity would judge him fair that he left the PDP’s sepulchre as the last of its longest and devoted adherents in the State. Having stayed on from its 1998 inception, playing very critical roles, long after all its founding fathers had taken a walk. Enoidem can be many things, but certainly not a man who caves in on friends or convictions. Picking up on his long-held culture of going the extra mile for Governor Umo Eno clearly aligns with his character of respect for leadership. Obong Victor Attah, Chief Godswill Akpabio and Mr. Udom Emmanuel, as Governors enjoyed same, while they held sway at the Hilltop mansion. Having given his best at conscientiously threading the mills of rewriting the narratives for the Akwa Ibom project in over three decades, those who hate him just do not deserve him. But for every crusader of truth - courage, and audacity to do right has found another reason and voice in a familiar body. Whether as a member of the State Working Committee of the PDP, or Member of the State Executive Council under two Governors, Member of the National Working Committee of his Party, a critical component of various political vehicles and even his service in the temple of justice, one thing is incontrovertible; there cannot be more than one Enoidem. An incurable optimist who trusts the best in every process. Not taking the all-familiar court option that has become the reality of every electoral process in Nigeria, indubitably energized the focus that led to the emergence of the eventual winner of the 2023 election, as President of Nigeria’s Senate. A prove that he knows when to draw blood and when to walk away. When Governor Umo Eno decided to join the APC in June 2025, it was in a widely applauded enlightened State interest. January 2026 presents another of such reasons; Enoidem’s movement in aligning with the Governor’s interest is already a validation of Akwa Ibom’s widely held sentiments of gratitude for Nigeria’s gift of the Senate Presidency, after over four decades. Make no mistake, beyond a capture, this would easily pass for the entrance of order, where chaos was once thought to hold sway. Old friends and comrades have suddenly found the key to a room that once prioritized Akwa Ibom, a fair deal that would in the long run present the State as a united front to the larger Nigeria. At the centre of the cross-narrative of whatever happened between Godswill Akpabio and Emmanuel Enoidem, is Governor Umo Eno, who is fixated on mobilizing Akwa Ibom beyond past wounds. Supporters of Akpabio and Enoidem who prefer grandstanding had better been reminded that the goodwill the Senate President enjoys in no way invalidates Enoidem’s quest to be a voice for his people. Both men have in one warm embrace tuned away from the noise. G.T. Shedd, a Professor of Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York, knew the difference between a ship on sea and habour, when he said, “a ship at the harbor is safe, but that is not where ships are built for.” Enoidem in living up to his Statesman’s duties is back on the turf to mobilize support for leadership that prioritizes the people. The entrance of this reliable war horse, in elevating patriotism above ego and scars of old, has become a new and cheering chapter for the Akwa Ibom United mantra. Governor Eno is no merchant of peace for the books, he has shown it in his transformative approach to rallying men and resources to common goals. In one warm embrace, the PDP strong man has announced the emergence of the first of the 109 Senators that would constitute the 11th Senate. Winning for the party its first seat, ahead of other Senatorial Districts, before the first ballots. This is a significant milestone that will allow Senator Akpabio the opportunity of pitching gains of peace building, as he moves around the country unencumbered at home, campaigning for the return of President Bola Tinubu. A reunion that has handed APC a challenge that would test its holding capacity, Emmanuel Enoidem’s baggage-free progressive movement has come at a time Akwa Ibom’s bigger win, in its imminent glory must be worth its weight in gold and numbers. This is a partnership that would engender the rebirth of a valuable and peaceable political paradigm that generations ahead would without fail, applaud. 2027: Elections in A'Ibom Will Be Most Peaceful - Udo Kierian _••• Assures Landslide Victories for Tinubu, Gov Eno, Akpabio, APC candidates_ By our Correspondent The International Coordinator of the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative, Rt. Hon. (Sir) Udo Kierian Akpan, has projected that the 2027 general elections in Akwa Ibom State will be the most peaceful in the state’s political history, while also producing the highest number of votes ever recorded. Kierian, a former Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, expressed strong confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would secure overwhelming victories for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and all candidates the party would field in the state. Speaking during a radio engagement on Comfort 95.1fm, Uyo, the former labour leader said the current political climate in Akwa Ibom has been fundamentally altered by Governor Umo Eno’s leadership style, which he described as inclusive, calm, and deliberately unifying. According to him, the peace and political stability currently enjoyed across the state have dismantled long-standing divisions and created an atmosphere where development thrives and political participation can flourish without tension. The Oruk Anam born heavyweight politician noted that the emergence of the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative was driven by the need to consolidate unity, deepen reconciliation, and shield governance from avoidable political distractions as the state moves toward 2027. He said the task of political mobilisation had been eased by what he described as Governor Eno’s visible performance across key sectors, stressing that governance outcomes, rather than rhetoric, now define political conversations in Akwa Ibom. The former Deputy Speaker highlighted the governor’s grassroots-driven approach, pointing out that the administration has institutionalised direct engagement through ward-level political structures and constituency-wide consultations that allow citizens to articulate their needs for government action. Akpan observed that Akwa Ibom has become more attractive to investors, visitors, and stakeholders due to sustained peace, noting that development can only be meaningful where stability exists. Kierian also reaffirmed that the state’s renewed political relevance at the national level must be protected, describing the presence of the Senate President as a strategic advantage that should not be taken for granted. He urged Akwa Ibom people to rally behind the APC to strengthen the state’s connection to the centre, arguing that political cohesion remains the surest path to sustained federal presence and economic benefits. On the national scene, Kierian called for continued support for President Tinubu, stating that ongoing economic reforms are already yielding results, including improved fiscal inflows to states and gradual relief in food prices. He stressed that the goal of the ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative is to keep the political space stable, organised, and supportive, allowing Governor Eno to concentrate fully on governance and service delivery. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Relations concluded that with the calibre of leaders within the APC in Akwa Ibom, the 2027 elections would not only be peaceful but historic in voter turnout, describing victory for the party as inevitable if unity is sustained.

PRESS RELEASE UDOEDEGHE MUST KNOW HE IS FINISHED The recent statement by James Akpan Udoedeghe calling for the resignation of Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, is the most reckless and obtuse nonsense yet to come from this political spent force. By all indications, this perennial political gambler—who has long lost his stake in Akwa Ibom’s future— aappears to be haunted by the curses placed on him by the people of this state for his past political roguery and brigandage. The man is beyond salvation. Despite years of basking in accidental fortune and strutting among dignified company, the slime of motor park still clings to him. He continues to traffic in political rascality. He must still mistake Akwa Ibom for his personal motor park, where he barks orders and trades in unguarded insults. Udoedeghe must recognize that he is a failed political thug who has lost his way time and again. Having squandered every allegiance and bridges of relationship, he now stakes his fading relevance on a desperate wager and parades himself as a conflict resolution expert. Such a laughable delusion! By nature and calling, Udoedeghe is an agent of chaos. When he is not inciting his ragtag media vuvuzelas to attack authorities, he deploys thugs to burn public property. It is his way! This failed politician must be reminded that the era of motor park rascality in politics is over. Akwa Ibom is not a garage for his rusty, disruptive brand of politics. He should take note that many of his former thugs have moved on to dignified engagements. Why can’t he? Why does he perpetually wallow in the mud of delusion? The people of Akwa Ibom are not fools. When he touted himself as a man of God, they saw through the charade, the pious presence and cunning attempt to manipulate the body of Christ for private political corruption. This man is dangerous and must be avoided and ignored at all cost. Thankfully, he has lost all political bets, along with relevance and respect among Akwa Ibom people. We urge all citizens to be wary of the antics of this failed and odious politician. As election season nears, he has come again with his usual rambunctiousness to disturb our cherished political peace. He has come to steal and destroy our democracy and development. He should know our state’s progress is not a game and he will, as usual fail in this ignoble venture. We stand with the steady, purposeful and impactful leadership of Governor Umo Eno and call on the public to ignore a man cursed to endure the indignity of perpetual political failure and irrelevance. PUBLIC STATEMENT RE: MISLEADING CLAIMS ON THE IBOM DEEP SEAPORT MoU AND INTERAF GROUP By Mkposong Asuquo I have observed with concern a growing wave of misinformation circulating online, including a report attributed to The Guardian, suggesting that the Government of Akwa Ibom State signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Ibom Deep Seaport with INTERAF Group barely two weeks after the company’s registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). For clarity and in the interest of public education, it is important to categorically debunk this misleading narrative. It is correct that INTERAF Group was formally registered with the CAC on Monday, 22 December 2025, under registration number 9110761. However, the deliberate or careless insinuation that this implies an inexperienced or hastily assembled entity is factually inaccurate and intellectually dishonest. NATURE AND STRUCTURE OF INTERAF GROUP INTERAF Group was registered as a consortium structure, not as a start-up operating in isolation. The Group registration merely reflects the formal convergence of several long-established, professionally active subsidiaries, coming together for the specific purpose of the Ibom Deep Seaport project and other aligned corporate undertakings. The subsidiaries forming the Group include, but are not limited to: • INTERAF Assets Management Limited • INTERAF Farms Limited • INTERAF Infrastructure Company Limited • INTERAF Power Development Company Limited • INTERAF Engineering Company Limited • Net Zero Energy Limited Each of these entities has existed independently over time, with proven operational histories, reputational standing, and sector-specific competencies relevant to infrastructure delivery, energy systems, engineering, asset management, and sustainability. The Group registration therefore serves as a holding and coordination framework, allowing the parent entity (INTERAF Group) to exert strategic influence and oversight, while each subsidiary continues to operate as a separate legal entity with its own governance, management, and financial structure—a globally accepted model for risk management, capital structuring, market expansion, and regulatory efficiency. CAPITALITALIZATION AND SERIOUSNESS OF PURPOSE Contrary to insinuations of superficiality, a review of the company’s status report, available upon diligent investigation, shows an authorised share capital of One Hundred Million Shares (100,000,000). This alone demonstrates a consortium structured with seriousness of scale, long-term intent, and financial planning consistent with a project as capital-intensive as a deep seaport. Had the editors concerned undertaken even a modest level of paid or investigative due diligence—as I did independently, purely out of love for Akwa Ibom State and its development—they would have encountered these facts easily. ON PROJECT SUITABILITY AND DUE PROCESS I state clearly that I am neither a member of INTERAF Group nor a politician with vested interests. My intervention is driven solely by civic responsibility and a desire to prevent misinformation from misleading the public. The Ibom Deep Sea Port (IDSP) is a flagship Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project designed to serve as a major maritime gateway for West and Central Africa. With its deep natural draft, integrated industrial city, and transshipment potential, the project is expected to decongest existing ports, stimulate industrialization, generate employment, and significantly boost regional trade. Such a project naturally demands: • Technical expertise • Long-term capital commitment • Regulatory compliance • Structured consortium participation The breadth of competencies within INTERAF’s subsidiaries—spanning engineering, energy, infrastructure, and asset management—clearly aligns with these requirements. It is also worth noting that in oil and gas licensing rounds, including Nigeria’s 2025 bid round, newly registered companies, consortia, or Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) are routinely permitted to participate, provided their shareholders or consortium members meet pre-qualification criteria. The same principle applies to large infrastructure PPPs globally. Furthermore, having passed through the qualifying and investment-screening processes of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP)—the state’s specialized investment promotion and industrial development agency—it is reasonable to conclude that due process has been observed. WHAT SHOULD TRULY MATTER TO EVERY AKWA IBOMITE As a people, our collective focus should not be on the timing of a consortium’s registration, but on fundamentals, including: • Financing capacity and access to capital • Technical and managerial competence • Ability to deliver within regulatory frameworks • Commitment to long-term project sustainability Any consortium that demonstrably meets these thresholds should be encouraged, not undermined by speculative or sensational reporting. COMMENDATION TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT I commend Governor Umo Eno’s administration for sustaining a governance philosophy anchored on continuity—completing, strengthening, and building upon projects initiated by previous administrations rather than abandoning them. This approach preserves public value, avoids waste, and enhances investor confidence. In leveraging existing state assets and partnerships, Akwa Ibom State positions itself for sustainable growth and enduring economic impact. This clarification is offered in good faith, in defence of facts, process, and the collective interest of Akwa Ibom State. Mkposong Asuquo Abuja-based Oil and Gas Consultant Writes from Abuja

WHEN INSULT REPLACES IDEAS: OKPO’S DESCENT INTO INFAMY There is a time when political illiteracy screams for relevance. Comrade Ewa Okpo’s recent outburst against Governor Umo Eno fits squarely into the latter category — a coarse, ill-tempered tirade that exposes desperation, shallow reasoning and an alarming addiction to insult as a substitute for thought. To casually brand the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, the constitutionally elected custodian of the destiny of the people as an “embezzler” and an apostle of “profligacy” shows the courage to do nonsense . It is verbal vandalism. It is what happens when argument collapses and abuse is deployed as a last refuge. A Governor is not a beer-parlour punchline, and governance is not a WhatsApp tantrum. Words carry consequence. When a man accuses a sitting Governor of criminal conduct without proof, he is not engaging in accountability; he is injecting recklessness into public discourse and hoping noise will pass for substance. What makes Okpo’s outburst particularly nauseating is its rank hypocrisy. The policy he now demonises , requiring local government chairmen to reside within their LGAs, supported by official residences , was conceived and announced while Governor Umo Eno was campaigning and was still in the PDP, well before the local government elections, and was roundly applauded across political divides. It was celebrated as a commonsense measure to entrench effective grassroots governance and security coordination. Only later, when personal and political calculations shifted, did applause mutate into bile. That is not conviction; it is political contortion performed without shame. Local Government Chairmen are, by law and practice, Chief Security Officers of their councils. Insisting that they live among the people they govern is not extravagance; it is elementary governance logic. Only a mind hostile to responsibility would repackage proximity, accountability and security coordination as corruption. Instead of being truthful to policy and facts, Okpo chose the gutter route , inventing motives, questioning sanity and hurling abuse. That choice exposes not just bad faith, but the poverty of intellect behind the noise. Governor Umo Eno’s calm disposition and measured public conduct are not signs of frailty; they reflect discipline, restraint and confidence in mandate. His refusal to trade insults with hecklers does not grant licence to political misfits to desecrate the office he occupies with careless vituperation. Akwa Ibom politics deserves ideas, not insults; reason, not rage. The collective destiny of millions cannot be reduced to the foul vocabulary of a man clawing for relevance through provocation. History is rarely kind to those who confuse insults with bravery. Governor Umo Eno will continue to shoulder the responsibility entrusted to him by the people, while those trapped in delusion screaming for relevance will remain exactly where noise always ends , empty and forgotten. GOV ENO’S AIDE ADVOCATES RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE IN A’IBOM Responsible journalism has been identified as a critical instrument for impactful representation and the promotion of good governance in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, on Tuesday while delivering a public lecture titled “Strengthening Responsible Journalism for Impactful Representation and Good Governance” said responsible journalism rests on a tripod of ethics, courage, and competence. The event was a symposium for Media Professionals in Eket Senatorial District, organised by The Nigerian Press Council in partnership with the Senator representing that district, Senator Ekong Sampson,PhD. Ndueso, a broadcast journalist told the participant that ethics drive fairness and balance while courage enables journalists to report truth without fear or favour, with competence ensuring accuracy in news reporting. He emphasized that journalism remains a vital pillar of democracy and must be practiced with integrity, depth, and a strong sense of public responsibility. Describing journalism as “the conscience of the society with a by-line,” he noted that while the media wields significant influence in shaping public opinion and holding leaders accountable, such power must be exercised with accuracy, fairness, and professionalism. He cautioned against the rising trend of viral journalism, where speed and sensationalism often take precedence over verification and public interest. According to him, responsible journalism transcends the pursuit of headlines and social media engagement, as credibility and public trust remain the media’s most valuable assets. The Governor’s aide further stressed that journalists must objectively interrogate government policies and projects, neither applauding blindly nor condemning recklessly while ensuring that governance delivers tangible benefits to citizens across communities. He underscored the role of the media as the voice of ordinary people, particularly those in rural and underserved areas whose concerns are frequently overlooked. Dr. Ndueso noted that journalism should amplify the voices of farmers, fisherfolk, youths, and other marginalized groups, rather than focusing solely on official statements and elite engagements. Linking journalism to good governance, he stated that accountability thrives where the press is free, ethical, and courageous, challenging journalists to go beyond event reporting to policy analysis, budget tracking, and clear explanation of government actions for public understanding. He identified ethics, courage, and competence as the foundational pillars of responsible journalism and warned against compromising professional integrity for personal gain, noting that ethical journalism is indispensable to sustaining democracy and public confidence in the media. In conclusion, Dr. Ndueso stressed that responsible journalism is not anti-government but pro-society, adding that the quality of governance in the future will largely reflect the quality of journalism practiced today. He urged media practitioners to prioritize accuracy over speed, public interest over personal benefit, and nation-building over popularity. Other speakers at the event included Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of NUJ in Akwa Ibom State, Prof Peter Esuh, the Dean of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Uyo, who delivered a keynote address, Prof Herbert Batta, Head of Department Information and Media Stidies, University of Uyo and Dr. Idongesit Ashameri former Chairman of Correspondents Chapel, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State. The symposium which centered on ICT and strategic media and sustainable development in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, witnessed renewed calls for journalists in Akwa Ibom State and across Nigeria to strengthen ethical standards, responsibly interrogate power, and remain steadfast in their commitment to truth, accountability, and service to the people. Earlier in his remarks, Senator Ekong Sampson appreciated members of the Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals adding that as a journalist himself, he was proud to identify with his colleagues. While promising to continue to attract empowerment and developmental programmes that will impact on his senatorial district, Senator Sampson also assured of more capacity building platforms for media professionals.

GOVERNMENT OF AKWA IBOM STATE 6th January, 2026 PRESS RELEASE RE: LEGAL STATUS OF STUBBS CREEK FOREST RESERVE The Government of Akwa Ibom State has noted recent publications circulating in the social and conventional media by a group known as Ekid People’s Union, concerning the ownership and legal status of land within the area known as Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve. The Government would ordinarily not want to comment on this matter as there is a pending suit filed by the same group before a court of competent jurisdiction involving issues surrounding the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve. It has however become necessary, in the overriding public interest, to correct serious misrepresentations being made in the public space. Contrary to the claims being circulated, the historic litigation, the case of Ntiaro and Ikpak Vs. Ibok Etok Akpan and Edoho Ekid, culminating in the 1918 decision of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council did not vest ownership of Stubbs Creek land in any ethnic group or community. The final judgment merely dismissed the claims before the court and granted title to no party whatsoever. Any assertion to the contrary is false, misleading and a distortion of the judicial record. The Stubbs Creek land was thereafter lawfully reserved by the Colonial Government of Nigeria under the Forest Reserve Order No.45 of 1930, which was further amended in 1941, 1955 and 1962, and the principal rights of the land forfeited to the Government upon the change of status, and has since been administered under applicable laws by the Government of Akwa Ibom State. The State Government has at all times acted within its lawful authority in the management and allocation of land in the area for legitimate public and economic purposes. Under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), particularly by virtue of its recognition and entrenchment of the Land Use Act, all land within Akwa Ibom State is vested in the Governor to be held in trust and administered for the use and common benefit of all Nigerians. Accordingly, claims of absolute or exclusive ownership based on ancestral or customary assertions are subject to, and regulated by, existing law. The Government categorically denies allegations of fraud or misrepresentation in relation to the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve or any investment therein, and will take appropriate legal steps against any individual or group involved in the publication of false, misleading, and/or criminally defamatory matter capable of undermining public confidence or discouraging investment and infrastructural development in the state. In furtherance of national development objectives, the Government assures the Federal Government of its support, and grants full access and Right of Way for the construction of the Coastal Highway through any part of the State. The Government reiterates its commitment to the rule of law and to the determination of all disputes by the courts, and urges all parties to refrain from misleading the public and allow the issues currently before the court to be determined through due process. Senator Ekong Sampson Projects Brighter Future Under Gov Eno …reels scorecard in Eket Senatorial District By Imaa Akpantuen and Victor Oton The Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Senator Ekong Sampson, has described the administration of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, as bold, painstaking and visionary, noting that the governor’s leadership style has brought focus, compassion and depth to governance in the state. The Senator made this known during a live radio interview on Friday in Uyo. Senator Sampson who used the opportunity to also open up some gains recorded under his stewardship as Senator, highlighted education as a central pillar of his legislative and constituency interventions. He disclosed that he recently disbursed ₦100 million in scholarships and grants to 500 students across the district, with each beneficiary receiving ₦200,000 through a transparent application process. Beyond financial support, he said the initiative was complemented with mentorship programmes to prepare youths for leadership and self-reliance. He also listed several education-focused bills and projects, including sponsorship of bills for the establishment of a Federal University of Technology in Ikot Abasi and a Federal University of Medical Sciences in Eket, while actively supporting the take-off of the University of Maritime Studies in Oron. Additionally, he is constructing and equipping Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the district to prepare students for the evolving, technology-driven education system. In the health sector, Sampson confirmed that he sponsored a bill for the establishment of a University Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom South, which has been passed into law. He is also building and upgrading hospitals, doctors’ quarters and medical facilities, while planning large-scale free medical outreaches to improve access to healthcare for rural dwellers. On infrastructure, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to the completion of the Calabar–Itu Highway project, describing it as a critical economic and safety corridor. He noted that sustained advocacy by Akwa Ibom lawmakers, with the support of the Senate President, has kept the project firmly on the national agenda. Sampson further disclosed that he has facilitated federal employment for over 40 Akwa Ibom indigenes across federal ministries, agencies and uniformed services, with many more ongoing. His office, he said, maintains a dedicated employment desk to track opportunities and ensure fair representation of the district’s diverse ethnic groups. On empowerment, the senator highlighted skills acquisition programmes, distribution of tricycles, outboard engines, business grants and other livelihood support initiatives, stressing that sustainable empowerment must be built around competence, training and innovation. “Late last year, I led a high power team from the state, largely Oro Nation, and we had meetings with the senate president. Yes, there are some challenges but we looked at the gray areas. “We look at what to do so that the university can take off as well. I'm very passionate that Oron should have a university, federal university for that matter. Of course, education is my priority. “Apart from the maritime university in Oron, I also champion that the university in Ikot Abasi must stand on full legs with proper facilities in place. I framed and sponsored a bill for the establishment of the university in Ikot Abasi, Federal University of Technology. The bill went through first reading, second reading, only third now to be passed into law so that the university will be garbed with legal flavor as it were. “Once it's garbed with legal flavor, it's stronger and it has a stronger footing as it were. I've also sponsored a bill for the establishment of a federal university of medical sciences in Eket. My idea is that we can have three universities. “One in Ikot, one in Eket, one in Oron, and if you look at the pit of my interventions, a lot has to do with education. Just last month, I disbursed 100 million Naira to 500 students. Each of the students went home with 200,000 Naira. “In respect of education, the matrix is moving from the traditional to new frontiers. We are now in the age of AI, technology. If you listen to my advocacy in the Senate, I've been very, very insistent that the matrix is changing from the ordinary, you know, to newer arenas. “We have technology, we have the science-prone areas, the science-inclined areas as it were. So it's important that the engagements about computer-based education, which we are having now, because that is the way to go. I'm constructing CBT centers in each constituency in my district. “Because I saw into the future that education has moved from the traditional matrix to technology, to computer-based, you know, framework as it were. So I have a computer-based center in Oron at St. Vincent. There's also one that I've consulted in Eketat St. Francis and then there's another one at Excellence College.” According to the Senator, Governor Eno has demonstrated uncommon commitment to inclusive development, especially at the grassroots, adding that the governor’s passion for rural development and people-centred governance aligns with long-held development ideals for the state. “Governor Eno is a very focused leader. He has depth. He has compassion. He's passionate that things be done properly and he has a very penetrating interest in the rural space. “When I see what he is doing, I smile because the governor is doing very well about what were my concerns on the rural space.” Senator Sampson also noted that the administration’s emphasis on rural roads, empowerment, and workers’ welfare reflects a deliberate effort to return life to the villages and ensure that development is not limited to urban centres. “Construction of rural roads. Very key. He is touching lives. People are being empowered and he is very passionate that workers must be well taken care of.” The Senator further spoke extensively on the future of the Ibom Deep Seaport, describing it as one of the most strategic projects capable of transforming Akwa Ibom’s economic landscape. He recalled a high-level visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where Governor Umo Eno passionately articulated the importance of the deep seaport to Nigeria’s maritime economy and Akwa Ibom’s industrial future. According to him, the synergy displayed during that engagement underscored a rare unity of purpose. “Our governor spoke with passion about the Ibom deep seaport. Maybe this may not be known to the state because they were not there. But if you were at the Aso Rock villa and you saw how Governor Umo Eno spoke with so much passion about the Ibom deep seaport before Mr. President, you know that we have a governor who is very passionate about driving the state. “And of course, we had our senate president that spoke like a professor on the deep seaport in Nigeria. Of course, our senate president knows virtually everything about the deep seaport, the background, the history, the challenges. And he marshalled strong arguments before Mr. President about the Ibom deep seaport.” He explained that the alignment between the state government, the National Assembly caucus, and the Senate President has strengthened the project’s prospects, positioning the seaport as a catalyst for job creation, industrial growth, and regional competitiveness in the South-South. “This is what the state is gaining from the unity project that Pastor Umo Eno is championing for Akwa Ibom state where before Mr. President we could speak with one voice, speak as a state.” “The results are quite promising. So Akwa Ibom state is gaining a lot from Senator Akpabio in the senate and we are very proud of him. We will support him. “We continue to pray for him. It is important that the office is retained in Akwa Ibom state and that Akpabio remains the senate president. The state is gaining a lot.” The senator emphasized that Akwa Ibom and the entire South-South region are recording significant gains from the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as President of the Senate, chief among these, he said, is the establishment of the South-South Development Commission, with its headquarters located in Uyo and its Managing Director from Akwa Ibom State. He also noted that the commission promises far-reaching benefits in infrastructure development, employment, and regional planning, adding that several South-South indigenes have already secured federal appointments, attributing these opportunities to the strategic advantage of Akpabio’s leadership position. Senator Sampson stressed that the unity between the governor, the Senate President and Akwa Ibom lawmakers has created a strong Abuja front, enabling the state to speak with one voice at the national level. “The momentum is high, confidence is high, and the teamwork spirit is high,” he said, arguing that Akwa Ibom’s development trajectory is being significantly enhanced by this cohesion.

Ex Gov Emmanuel Solicits prayers for Gov Eno’s Success …sues for genuine love among Christians The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has emphasized that Christmas remains a time to celebrate the mercy of God in saving mankind through the birth of Jesus Christ. Speaking at this year’s Christmas Service at the United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church) Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area, Mr Emmanuel said it is a tradition held to celebrate Emmanuel, God with us, “There’s a star for a King in every family, and that’s why the Wisemen could identify the star of Jesus Christ amongst other stars. “This is a period of prophecy, and so, may your star shine in your family’. Mr. Emmanuel, in tandem with Biblical injunctions, called for continuous prayers for the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD., and other leaders and further acknowledged the peace enjoyed in the State under the present administration. He urged everyone to be his brother’s keeper, loving genuinely and caring for one another. He noted with gratitude the good work of Council Chairman, Hon. Kufre Umoren and encouraged all to submit to constituted authorities, while wishing all a blissful and merry Christmas celebrations. In a sermon at the service on the theme ‘Lessons behind the Season’ the Resident Pastor of the United Evangelical Church, Awa Iman, Ikot Idem Udo Superintendency, Rev. Titus Akpan, exhorted the congregants on the need to emulate the humility of Jesus Christ as seen from his birth to ministry life. “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light and they in the shadow of death, have the light of life. This is a major lesson behind the season, having Jesus Christ as the light of the world. “Again, out of Jude’s, the least among the provinces shall come a Governor that shall rule my people, which implies that most great people would always come from very humble background. “Yet another lesson is evident in the inability of King Herod to stop the rising of the Baby King, Jesus Christ illustrating the tendency of powers to rise against God’s plans, and the certainty that the will of God will always prevail”. Prayers over the sermon was led by Dcns. Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, while the Bible readings drawn from Isaiah Chapter 9, verses 1 through 7 and Matthew Chapter 2, verses 1 through 15, were taken by Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. The Christmas Service which featured prayers for the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, and the immediate Governor and their families and sessions of praise and worship, and thanksgiving amidst song ministrations by various choirs, had in attendance members of the immediate past first family of the State, the Conference Chairman of the Church, and people from all walks of life who congregated to celebrate the 2025 edition of the Christmas Service. Mr Udom Emmanuel later hosted the people to a musical and cultural carnival, a yearly ritual at the QIC Primary School, Awa Iman, an event which saw the Akwa Ibom Governor represented by the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Emem Bob, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs and Social Re-Orientation, Barr Kufre Udosen and the Governor’s political adviser, Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh.

GOV ENO DISCLOSES PLAN TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FACILITIES AT IBOM PLAZA Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed plans to further beautify the popular Ibom Plaza in Uyo, in line with the tourism vision of the ARISE Agenda. Speaking at the re-opening of the remodelled plaza in Uyo, he commended the Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Hon. Anietie Eka, and his team for meeting the set target, stressing that the best was yet to come. “We needed to reclaim the plaza and make it a place where we can all gather, like a city square, to watch movies, football, and other forms of entertainment. “I want to thank the Chairman of UCCDA for working day and night to fix this place. Thank you so much, and to all your workers. The best is yet to come. “As we move along, we are developing a master plan for this plaza. I can see a flyover and other befitting facilities around here,” he said. He appreciated the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Baba Azare, for approving a security outpost at the plaza to ensure the safety of lives and property. “Let us make this a place of peace. This place will open by 7 a.m., and by 12 midnight, it will be shut. That is why we have gates everywhere. If we find anyone here after the closing hours, the person will be arrested. We will not allow miscreants in this place. We believe that this is what our father, Architect Victor Attah, envisaged,” he said. He noted that the facility, especially the restrooms, will be professionally maintained, adding that UCCDA will continue to carry out maintenance work. The Governor, who is deeply committed to tourism development in the State, appreciated everyone for turning up for the event and assured them of his unwavering commitment to the development of the State. In his remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, commended the Governor for bringing life back to Ibom Plaza, describing the renovation as Governor Eno’s creative idea to restore the facility to its lost glory, in line with the urban renewal vision of the former Governor and father of modern Akwa Ibom, Arc. Obong Victor Attah. He thanked the Governor for his decision and initiative to renovate and upgrade the facility to meet contemporary standards of urban beautification, stressing that the plaza is a significant symbol of tourism and architectural excellence. Similarly, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, described the occasion as a significant moment for the people of Akwa Ibom State, noting that the current administration has redefined governance through deliberate remodelling and renewal initiatives. While commending the Governor for the transformation of the plaza and his commitment to developing the tourism sector, he said the gesture has strengthened cultural development and repositioned the State as a viable tourism destination. In an overview of the project, Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka analysed the different stages of deterioration of the plaza to the point where it eventually became a den of criminals. He appreciated the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promise by transforming the centre in line with his vision to make the State a tourism hub. He highlighted the innovations introduced into the plaza to include art galleries for showcasing heroic human histories, a security outpost and two Hilux trucks for effective security management, a brand-new LED screen for entertainment, and solar lighting across the plaza. He also thanked the Governor for granting him the opportunity to play a supervisory role in actualising his vision for the plaza.
