Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has stated that the State will soon launch an independent Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System to complement the Primary Health Care services, and the recently-launched State Health Insurance Scheme.

The Governor made this known, when he took delivery of the initial six, of ten fully- equipped ambulances, at the Government House, Uyo.

Speaking with Government House correspondents while inspecting the ambulances, Gov. Eno said the gesture was a reaffirmation of his commitment to enhance healthcare services in the State, in line with the aspirations of his administration's ARISE Agenda.

According to the Governor, the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS) will run as a stand alone system, run by qualified personnel, but complementary to the Health Insurance Scheme and other components of the State's Health Sector, to ensure swift response to medical emergencies, as is obtainable in some countries across the world.

He directed that health workers be selected and trained on requisite skills to ensure optimum service delivery on the emergency services.

He commended the special features of the ambulances and reaffirmed9 his administration's commitment to support good ventures that would serve the interest of Akwa Ibom people in fulfillment of his campaign promises.

"We want to create an Independent ambulance service system, a stand alone service, headed by qualified personnel. The Ambulance service is special, and they can run independently.

"If we have this ambulance system working, our health insurance working, our hospitals working and we have the medical team working, pay the medical Doctors well and make them happy, we should be able to revive our health sector as part of our ARISE Agenda," Governor Eno stated.

The Senior Special Assistant, Medicals, and Personal Physician to the Governor, Dr. Ekem John, who coordinated the inspection of the ambulances, commended Governor Umo Eno's integrity in keeping to his promise of availing the State of a workable medical emergency service in addition to other lofty projects to boost healthcare services in the state, while also building a sizeable network of roads and other laudable projects.

According to the Governor's Chief Physician, the interventions of the Umo Eno- led administration in the health sector has placed Akwa Ibom State in sync with the current federal government policies in the sector, thereby guaranteeing access to the consolidated revenue fund for healthcare.

Concerns arose among many individuals regarding potential conflicts of interest when Pastor Umo Eno assumed the position of Governor of Akwa Ibom State after his predecessor, His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel exit office .

Numerous business owners were anxious about the future of their investments, uncertain if their projects would continue, be halted, or reassigned to different contractors.

Communities benefiting from these projects feared that the expected development might be abandoned, jeopardizing their hopes for improved road infrastructure.

This situation was notably complex given the patterns observed in other Nigerian states, where incoming leaders often clash with their predecessors, leading to the abandonment or destruction of projects initiated by the previous administration as a show of political dominance and power.

The President's wife commended Governor Eno's resolve to maintain the office of the First Lady in the State and his choice of Helen Eno Obareki to coordinate the office, assuring the Governor's daughter and the entire government of Akwa Ibom State of her commitment to partner and support the lofty visions of the State First Lady's office.

In his words, "I got married to my wife when she was 19 and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because God gave her to me as a comforter, someone who gave me succour. We experienced a lot, gone through thick and thin, victories and defeats. We are perplexed because we have lost someone that is irreplaceable.

"She was my biblical description of a virtuous woman in all ramifications. She was my cheer leader and also my best critic. So for me, the mourning is a lifetime thing," he said.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) by imMannerPhilipz(op): 5:32pm On Oct 02, 2024
This Saturday, the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) will conduct elections for Chairmen and Councillors of the 31 Local Government Councils of Akwa Ibom State. Empowered by law, AKISIEC has followed all guidelines.

Confident in the PDP's trajectory, I predict a sweep of all Chairmanship and Councillorship seats. The party's grassroots campaigns and impactful governance under His Excellencies Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and now Pastor Umo Eno have solidified their stronghold.

It will be challenging for other parties to gain traction in Akwa Ibom, now and in the foreseeable future.

I firmly believe that it is only in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where you'll find good governance, where people are smiling, and there's no tension anywhere. The party's commitment to democracy, development, youths empowerment, freedom, human rights, and human dignity sets it apart.

All the PDP's Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates are people tested and trusted with a proven track record to deliver excellently. They embody the principles of democracy and
good governance.

With such exceptional leadership, it's clear why PDP remains the party of choice for those seeking effective governance and peaceful coexistence.

I urge PDP supporters and other party faithful who have benefited from PDP administrations to line up and cast their votes for all PDP candidates.

GOVERNOR ENO’S ARISE AGENDA HAS UNITED AKWA IBOMITES IN THE NORTH- AIDE

The Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja and Northern States, is more united in support and solidarity to Governor Umo Eno as he doles out dividends of democracy through his ARISE Agenda to the people.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilization, Abuja, Kingsley Iwok during an interaction with his colleague, the SSA to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso in Uyo.

Mr Iwok said he chose to share his experience with Dr. Ndueso, to show the overwhelming joy among the Akwa Ibom community in Abuja who were having political patronage for the first time in several years.

"The purpose of my visit to the State, was to join in celebrating the state on her 37th Anniversary and also to intimate you on the state of affairs of Akwa Ibomites residing in Abuja.

"I came to convey the appreciation, the applause, the commendation of the Akwa Ibom people resident in Abuja and the 19 northern states of Nigeria to the Governor, for his magnanimity in appointing one of them, which is me, in charge of the mobilization.

Speaking further, he commended the governor for being a promise keeper. According to him, "We have been appealing and pleading with successive Governments, to consider us with regard to Government appointments.

"But then His Excellency the Governor, in the build-up to elections came on consultation to the Akwa Ibom community, and then made that solemn pledge that he would run an all inclusive governance, where Akwa Ibomites, irrespective of where they stay, location, and so on, would be integrated into the governance structure of the states.

"We thought it was just the usual political rhetoric as usual but His Excellency, the Governor has indeed kept his word," he added

He further reaffirmed his unalloyed commitment and support and that of Akwa Ibomites residing in Abuja towards Governor Eno's administration

Mr Iwok further said that Governor Umo Eno's milestone achievements in the space of one year has made party members who had earlier defected to other parties to return.

"One of the first groups that visited to register their position were those who broke out from the MPM in which I, by privilege, was secretary, in FCT.

"Today, they have come to say they are ready to return because of the actions of the government, they're ready to switch camp. The records are there.

"They've been asking when they are going to do it openly, publicly, for the world to see. And that's one of the reasons why I'm here."

Additionally, Mr Iwok appraised Dr Ndueso for being of exemplary conduct, through promoting the image of the government.

He recounted the various times they used to follow the trends of the litigations against the Governor, in court due to the frequent updates from the courtrooms by Dr Ndueso, and described him as a versatile media professional.

“We would like you to also come and document our activities over there in Abuja, he told Dr. Ndueso.

“The respect that our people have for you over there is enormous.

Responding, the SSA on Research and Documentation Dr Ndueso appreciated Mr Iwok for galvanizing support for the Governor in Abuja and urged him to actively engage in more programmes that will continue to put Akwa Ibom name in the spotlight outside the state.

"Wherever you find yourself, you're an ambassador of where you come from. And whatever image you create for yourself, will open doors for others who will come after you.

"The relevance of the Abuja community is to the extent you make it, because if in the end the impact is not felt from here, it is nothing.

"This means you have to create programmes, invite folks from here to come over there, and in that way you are now singing the Akwa Ibom story in the distance land, and more people will hear about the good works of the Excellency regarding the ARISE Agenda."

PoliticsAkwa Ibom State At 37 by imMannerPhilipz(op): 2:45pm On Sep 24, 2024
A New Dawn with Governor Umo Eno

Mercy Udoh

As Akwa Ibom State celebrates its 37th anniversary, the Land of Promise welcomes a new chapter under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno. Inheriting the legacy of growth and transformation from his predecessors, Governor Eno’s administration is focused on driving the state into a future defined by sustainable development, people-centric policies, and economic diversification.

Since its creation on September 23, 1987, Akwa Ibom has grown from a predominantly agrarian society into one of Nigeria’s most industrious and resource-rich states. Its oil wealth, coupled with strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, has earned Akwa Ibom a prominent place in Nigeria’s development trajectory. Under the leadership of past governors, the state has seen improvements in transportation networks, urban development, and social services. Governor Umo Eno, however, brings a fresh vision, one that aligns with the aspirations of a new generation of Akwa Ibomites.
At the core of Governor Eno’s administration is the ARISE Agenda, a strategic framework aimed at enhancing the lives of the people through targeted development initiatives in key areas. The ARISE agenda stands for Agriculture, Rural Development, Infrastructure, Security, and Education, and it reflects the governor’s commitment to inclusivity and long-term economic stability.
Agriculture and Food Security
Governor Eno has made it clear that agriculture will be a cornerstone of his administration. With a background in entrepreneurship and business management, he understands the importance of diversifying the economy beyond oil. Under the ARISE Agenda, agricultural investments are geared towards improving food security, creating jobs, and boosting the state’s agro-allied industries.

The administration is actively promoting the cultivation of crops such as cassava, cocoa, oil palm, and vegetables, while also supporting fisheries and livestock farming.

The construction of Ibom Model Farms, similar to the Songhai farms in Port Novo, Benin Republic further shows that Governor Umo Eno's focus on agriculture not only aims at reducing dependence on oil revenues but also to create opportunities for rural dwellers, particularly the youth, to engage in sustainable farming practices.

Governor Umo Eno also initiated a bulk purchase scheme as part of his efforts to address inflation and provide relief to citizens amid the rising cost of living. The bulk purchase program involves the state government procuring essential commodities like foodstuffs and household goods in large quantities and selling them to residents at subsidized rates.

This initiative aims to make basic goods more affordable for citizens, particularly the less privileged, and reduce the impact of economic challenges. The program is part of Umo Eno’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of Akwa Ibom residents through sustainable economic measures.

Rural Development and Inclusivity
Akwa Ibom’s rural communities are set to benefit greatly from Governor Eno’s rural development initiatives. Recognizing that a significant portion of the state’s population resides in rural areas, the ARISE Agenda prioritizes equitable development. The plan includes improving access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and clean water, while also investing in rural infrastructure like roads and electricity.

Governor Eno envisions a future where no part of Akwa Ibom is left behind. By empowering rural communities through targeted interventions, he aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every corner of the state.
Infrastructure: Building for Tomorrow
Infrastructure development remains a priority under Governor Eno. Building on the foundation laid by his predecessors, his administration is committed to enhancing road networks, expanding public utilities, and modernizing urban areas. With a vision for a more connected Akwa Ibom, the state government plans to improve transportation links to rural areas, making it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets.

The ongoing development of the MRO and the expansion of Ibom Air signify the state’s commitment to becoming a major transportation and logistics hub in West Africa. These projects will not only boost the local economy but will also attract foreign investment, creating jobs and fostering long-term economic growth.
Security: Ensuring Peace and Stability
Governor Umo Eno’s administration places a high premium on security, recognizing that peace and stability are essential for sustainable development. The ARISE Agenda includes comprehensive strategies to address security challenges, particularly in rural areas where communal conflicts and crimes can impede progress.

By strengthening the state’s security architecture and working closely with local communities, the government is committed to creating an environment where businesses can thrive, investments can flourish, and citizens can live without fear.
The inauguration of Ibom Community Watch encourages community policing and has helped curb insecurity in the rural areas.

Education: Empowering the Future
One of the pillars of the ARISE Agenda is the focus on education. Governor Eno recognizes that an educated and skilled population is key to the state’s future. His administration has committed to improving the quality of education at all levels, from primary to tertiary institutions.

Investments in infrastructure, teacher training, and vocational education are designed to equip the youth with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy. Also the training of Youths in the Ibom LED further proves that Governor Umo Eno will not relent in ensuring that youths are equipped with the relevant skills.

Free and compulsory education policies will continue, ensuring that every child has access to learning opportunities, regardless of their socio-economic background.
A People-Centric Leadership

Governor Umo Eno’s leadership style is rooted in compassion, humility, and service to the people. As a pastor and successful businessman, he brings a unique blend of moral integrity and entrepreneurial expertise to governance. His administration is focused on transparent leadership, accountability, and inclusive governance, with the well-being of the people at the center of every decision.

Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Compassionate Homes is a key part of his administration’s social welfare initiative, aimed at providing care and support for the less privileged, including orphans, widows, and vulnerable members of society in Akwa Ibom State. The initiative is under his .

The Compassionate Homes offer shelter to beneficiaries, fostering a sense of community and care. This aligns with Governor Eno's vision for inclusive governance and social development that leaves no one behind. Through this program, the government also seeks to partner with charitable organizations and well-meaning individuals to expand its impact.

Earlier In his inaugural address, Governor Eno emphasized his desire to run an open-door government, one that listens to the people’s needs and responds with practical solutions. This approach is already winning the hearts of many in Akwa Ibom, as the governor works to foster unity and collaboration across political, ethnic, and social divides.

Like any state, Akwa Ibom faces challenges, including fluctuations in oil revenues, infrastructure deficits, and the need for greater economic diversification. However, Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda offers a clear pathway to overcoming these hurdles.

As the state marks 37 years of existence, there is a renewed sense of hope and optimism. The promise of sustained economic growth, enhanced rural development, and improved social services under Governor Umo Eno’s leadership is poised to propel Akwa Ibom to new heights.

With its abundant natural resources, vibrant culture, and determined people, Akwa Ibom stands on the cusp of a new era one where the dreams of its founding fathers can finally be realized. As the state moves forward, Governor Umo Eno’s administration is committed to ensuring that the benefits of development are shared by all, making Akwa Ibom not just a land of promise but a land of fulfilled potential.

In celebrating 37 years, Akwa Ibom can proudly look back on its journey while confidently embracing the future. The state's best days are undoubtedly ahead.

PoliticsGov. Eno Counters Journalist On Procurement Law by imMannerPhilipz(op): 10:03am On Sep 24, 2024
* Says be armed with facts before making allegations

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has again advised journalists to always verify facts and be responsible in news reportage to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.

Governor Eno, had during a media briefing with journalists, been confronted by a journalist, Ekemini Simon, who accused his government of violating the State procurement law, and also alleged the non execution of two high courts projects after funds had been disbursed for the projects.

But responding to the journalist who works with a local tabloid, The Mail Newspaper, Governor Eno explained that budgeting don’t necessarily translate to actually release of funds, and that it was wrong for the journalist to make allegations publicly and boldly without any fact or evidence.

The journalist had specifically queried the budget performance for 2023,alleging that between January to September 2023, Government spent 100 million naira each for the construction of High Court buildings in Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium with nothing on ground to show.

“16 months in office, your administration is yet to comply with public procurement law especially section 16(1) which demands competitive contract bidding”, Mr Simon roared.

But the Governor who took time to educate the journalist said, "every contract in this state goes through the Finance and General Purposes Committee (FGPC). Like I keep saying, budget will always remain a budget which is different from actual implementation.

"When you say something was budgeted for and money taken, I will like you to show proof of who took the money, and who disbursed the money. Don’t say things or write things you don’t have facts about.

"Please, before you make some allegations, make sure you have your facts and clear knowledge about what you are talking about.

"When you say monies where disbursed and the projects are not there, I’m happy you are referring to the judiciary which means they will take you on that.

"As for the public procurement law, I’m the father of due process and we followed it strictly. It is extremely wrong for you speak in a live programme in that manner as if you have all the facts.

“If I say come and prove what you are saying now, everybody will say he has started hunting journalist.

"The money you claimed to have been released is not true, and I challenge you to come out with your facts and proof to us who took the money. I can't imagine the audacity of speaking lies as if you are saying the truth".

He charged journalists in the state to be patriotic to the state by writing those things that will build and progress the state instead of things that will bring down the state.

"Let us write the things that will lead to the progress of the state not those that will reduce our state."

Akwa Ibom's Golden Era: Governor Umo Eno's 37th Anniversary Gift

Richard Peters

For the inhabitants of Akwa Ibom State, September transcends its numerical designation as the ninth month. It's a month of jubilation, a time when dreams turn into reality. And within this remarkable month, the 23rd day stands out as a beacon of significance, commemorating the historic moment when the state's founding visionaries saw their collective aspirations take shape.

As Akwa Ibom State celebrates its 37th anniversary, Governor Pastor Umo Eno's administration has given residents even more reasons to rejoice. The state's creation, a dream of its founding fathers, has truly come to fruition. Today, Akwa Ibom is a thriving entity, a testament to the vision of its pioneers.

Akwa Ibom State has had an incredible 37-year journey, filled with transformative moments and milestones that could easily fill the pages of a bestselling book. From military to civilian administrations, each era has contributed to the state's growth and development. And now, Governor Umo Eno is scripting a remarkable chapter in the state's history, where every initiative seems to yield positive results.

Reflecting on Akwa Ibom State's 37-year journey, one is compelled to pay tribute to the unwavering dedication, selfless sacrifice, and visionary ingenuity that has transformed a once-sleepy village into a thriving global hub.

Over nearly four decades, the state has evolved into a beacon of excellence in governance, boasting a vibrant economy and an array of development initiatives that have captured the attention of the world.

Akwa Ibom State is celebrating 37 remarkable years of existence, and what a journey it has been! From its humble beginnings to becoming a thriving hub, the state has truly transformed into a masterpiece, much like turning water into fine wine. Governor Umo Eno's administration has been instrumental in this transformation, expertly navigating the state's growth and development over the past 15 months.

Governor Umo Eno has taken the baton from previous administrations and is sprinting towards a finish line of unprecedented progress in Akwa Ibom State. Building upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessors, he's strengthening the pillars of statehood, addressing weaknesses, and propelling the state towards new heights.

Governor Umo Eno's compassionate leadership has brought hope and relief to the vulnerable members of Akwa Ibom State. His commitment to soft infrastructure has restored smiles and transformed lives. By advocating for those often overlooked, Governor Eno has made a lasting impact, bending the arc of history in their favor.

Through initiatives like the Bulk Purchase Agency's food distribution program, now in its second phase, Governor Eno has ensured that those worst-hit receive essential support . This program embodies his promise to prioritize human capital development, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable.

Perhaps those occupying the front row of the governor's seats of compassion are the happy beneficiaries of the Governor's Compassionate Homes built for the "landlords and land ladies" in the dungeons of poverty and vicissitudes of life. They had pathetic stories that one should not want to listen to if they do not have enough litres of tears stored in the underground tanks of their eyes.

But a game changer is on the saddle as governor of Akwa Ibom State. Governor Umo Eno has changed the narratives of their stories. Joy has cometh in the morning, and it is still the morning of the administration of the governor.

The hard infrastructure is imposing. The impossible has been made possible. Governor Eno is leading an aggressive rural development, hatching infrastructure like well fed layers of birds. He introduced the one project per local government area across the State, and the programme had since entered its second phase.

That has blessed Akwa Ibom State with several stunning initiatives such as the model primary schools, now sprouting across the State as well as the primary healthcare centres.

In that same vein, there are several road projects across the State, opening up the rural areas and like veins and arteries, circulating the blood of development and good governance to all parts of the body of the people.

Governor Umo Eno has so far injected 35 billion Naira into the payment of backlog of decades-long pensions and gratuities, and has nearly cleared 50% of that, making the retirees to have a new lease of life. They may wear the shoes but an empathy-drenched governor knows where it pinches them.

He is top on empowerment, with an unprecedented record of empowering 100,000 youths of Akwa Ibom State through different areas and sectors of empowerment, making youths the tonic of his administration which is famous for inclusivity.

Governor Umo Eno is tick on agriculture. His vision of food sufficiency and food security in Akwa Ibom State has necessitated fertile agricultural policies and programmes which are farmers friendly, making agriculture attractive and lucrative even for the younger generation.

The big story in agriculture is the emerging Ibom Model Farms, a replica of the renowned Songhai farms in Port Novo, Benin Republic where the governor personally led a high powered government delegation to go and understudy the secret of the project, all in his avowed commitment to barnish hunger from the land.

An innovative and responsive leader, Governor Eno is restructuring and re-positioning ministries to be in line with modern realities. He started with the novelty of creating the ministry of internal security and Waterways with the accompanying Ibom Watch which has contributed greatly to the sustenance of peace and security in the State.

Still in that line of thought, the governor has created two full fledged ministries from the Ministry of youth and sports as well as the Ministry of Humanitarian Services. All of these are the foresighted governor's effort at aligning Akwa Ibom State with contemporary society and bringing it at par with other modern climes.

Governor Umo Eno is making marks in the aviation sector development. The International Terminal Building and the parallel taxiway are testaments to this, while the icing on the cake is the serial acquisition of new aircraft for Ibom Air to help the state-owned airline expand its routes and remain the pride of the sky in Nigeria.

Students are enjoying the dividends of good governance including the students with disabilities studying in tertiary institutions in the State irrespective of their States of origin. They are benefiting from the governor's 100 million Naira Education Trust Fund.

But that would not be Governor Umo Eno's only fruit of a statesman and patriot commited to the unity and development of Nigeria. He has appointed an aide from each of the ethnic groups in Nigeria, building trust and brotherliness.

But his charity began at home. He is even more committed to the unity and oneness of Akwa Ibom State, running a bipartisanship administration. He promised Akwa Ibom people that he was going to lead the ministry of reconciliation. Like Nigerians would say, evidently, I hat ministry has moved to the permanent site, Governor Eno has shown that there are neither senior nor junior partners in the Akwa Ibom project, as everyone irrespective of political party or ethnic divide is given the sense of belonging. This cannot be different from the dream of the founding fathers.

The list is endless. Governor Umo Eno, indeed,is doing an irresistible chapter of the book of Akwa Ibom State which will be a must read at the end of his administration, and will make Akwa Ibom State never to be out of circulation but rather flying in the firmament of the big league.

As Akwa Ibom State celebrates its 37th anniversary, Governor Pastor Umo Eno stands out as a transformative leader, embodying the collective aspirations of the state's people. His visionary leadership builds upon the foundations laid by his predecessors, fulfilling the promise of September 23, 1987, when General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida announced the state's creation ¹.

Under Governor Eno's stewardship, Akwa Ibom is experiencing a new era of progress, justifying its nickname "The Land of Promise." His commitment to development has made him a "Promise Keeper" for the state's citizens.

Congratulations, Akwa Ibom State!

Happy 37th anniversary!

PoliticsGov Eno Not Ready To Be An Armchair Governor by imMannerPhilipz(op): 6:32pm On Sep 18, 2024
TRUST COMMENT: GOV ENO NOT READY TO BE AN ARMCHAIR GOVERNOR

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, is not an armchair Governor who seats in the comfort of a luxurious office to give instructions, sign memos and receive reports.

Rather he is showing practical demonstration of a leader who is leading from the front, by constantly, personally and regularly inspecting projects by himself.

Governor Eno’s Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso stated these in a Cable Television - ADBN interview programme Niger Delta Today.

Reacting to a comment anchored on trust, attributed to the Governor, Dr Ndueso said trust enhanced by verification, is an old Russian Phrase made popular by former President of the United States Ronald Reagan, and explained that the principle champions accountability and innovation, while ensuring a steadfast commitment to excellence.

He said by adopting that principle, the Governor wants to ensure that there is no abandoned project, and that there is utmost adherence to top quality and standard in projects execution.

“By going beyond trusting people on face value, Governor Eno personally leads to inspect his projects and only recently, he announced the establishment of a delivery unit to be coordinated by an Executive Advisor, in his office to further strengthen the projects implementation system in the State.

He said that the State has more than enough reasons to celebrate its 37th anniversary of creation, especially with the spate of attainments in infrastructural development, free education, qualitative healthcare and security.

“Governor Umo Eno inherited a State that was adjudged very peaceful, but he has raised the stake by institutionalizing security through the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, the Ibom Community Watch and several youth empowerment and human capacity enhancement initiatives.

He said the 2024 anniversary of the State’s creation would resonate more with the downtrodden and less privilege who are currently getting free food items from the Governor, free shelters and other incentives.

“Governor Eno is adopting a bottom to top approach model, which means that those who ordinarily would have not accessed the Governor, including the vulnerable, the neediest, the physically challenged, the less privileged ones, the retired civil servants, are the first to be touched by the various government’s compassion driven programmes.

BEING A PREDECESSOR: THE UDOM EMMANUEL MODEL

By Stephen Abia, Esq.

How many former governors in Nigeria openly and honestly refer to their successors as their leader? Governors always want loyalty while in office but how many of them give same to their successors when they bow out of office? He who goes to loyalty must go with clean hands or put differently, loyalty begets loyalty. That is the beautiful story in Akwa Ibom State.

The sentiment that one cannot be a good leader without being a good follower has found expression in the relationship between the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, CON, and his successor, Governor Umo Eno. Mr Emmanuel has endeared himself the more to the people through his relationship with Governor Umo Eno.

If his relationship with his successor were to be captured in a book, it would have been a bestseller and a top shelf demand. The former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has shown that it is possible to be a former governor and still allow your successor fully take charge of the State even when you played such a crucial role in his emergence.

He has made being a former governor almost more attractive and exciting than being in office, deploying his innate qualities of contentment, respect, humility and a huge sense of responsibility to work, thereby stabilizing the polity which has helped Governor Umo Eno to remain focused on delivering on his campaign promises to Akwa Ibom people.

Juxtaposing the reality in neighbouring states, where immediate past leaders make leaving office look like removing oxygen from a man having respiratory issues, Mr Emmanuel should pass for a good example of how past governors and leaders generally should carry themselves.

In the build-up to the election of Pastor Umo Eno as the governor of Akwa Ibom State, the then Governor Emmanuel had made screaming headlines when he said that his then would-be successor, Pastor Umo Eno will perform better than him. But Mr Udom Emmanuel was probably economical with the truth, in the patriotic sense of the word.

He knew that he was going to give Pastor Umo Eno all the needed support to succeed, and he has done exactly that instead of creating rivalry with his successor because of former-governor "fever", a political health condition caused by greed and other viruses of insecurity, which has become an outbreak in other States.

Being a man of class, Mr Emmanuel has lived to his words that he was not seeking a third term by proxy. Despite his invaluable role in the emergence of Pastor Eno as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, the immediate past Governor has never made himself a nightmare to his successor, as this would have led to friction, he has made everyone see and know that it is his successor's show and that the only thing he owes Governor Umo Eno is support, and as he puts it, prayers. His favourite lines, “water is sweeter when we drink from the cup, (not when being drowned in it). Being in a position of leadership is not an easy thing, so we owe our leaders nothing short of unflinching support and prayers, to succeed. So, everyday of my life, I keep praying for our Governor and leader, Pastor Umo Eno, to succeed, and that is the least we owe him.“

Mr. Udom Emmanuel has not only shown support to his successor, but he also commits himself to mobilizing others to give support to the governor, and utilizes every opportunity to preach peace in the State. In his first speech to the people of the State after leaving office, Mr Emmanuel, while declaring open an economic dialogue convoked by the new Government in July last year, announced that there can only be one leader at a time, and that God in his own wisdom has produced for Akwa Ibom, a leader in Pastor Umo Eno.

That gospel of peace and solidarity has surfaced in every fora the former governor finds himself. The most recent was at a church service at Gospel Foundation Mission, Etinan, where he urged members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to go a step further in their unflinching support to Governor Umo Eno through a motion for his second term in office.

With an inspiration that can only come from the pulpit, Mr Udom Emmanuel had last weekend in that church said, “I can see so many state legislators from the Leader of the House to the Chief Whip, the Deputy Chief Whip, and several others. It is even possible to move a motion…if there is any motion to be moved it should be a motion that endorses Governor Umo Eno for a second term.” The lawmakers took the message home, and waited for a convenient day where they could move such motion before Akwa Ibom people and indeed the entire world. The opportunity presented itself during the Appreciation and Empowerment Rally for Youths of Akwa Ibom State where the motion was moved, seconded and confirmed by a unanimous voice vote by the lawmakers who had worshipped with the Governor two days earlier. It sounded like a dream to think that the idea of such motion of support for a successor came from his predecessor. Mr Udom Emmanuel's "book" on how to be a good predecessor is a thriller.

And because Mr Emmanuel has chosen to be a number one supporter of Governor Umo Eno than being a thorn on his flesh like is reported elsewhere, the former governor is loved the more by his people.

That is why they are always looking forward to seeing him visit the State, and often throng to the airport to receive him. The people are always excited to have the former governor around, continue to celebrate him as a hero, committed to championing the course of development of the State. No Governor in the history of Akwa Ibom has enjoyed such unwavering support from an immediate predecessor.

Of course, juxtaposing the gains of the peace in the State with a state of commotion caused by political tension that would have followed if Mr Udom Emmanuel did not genuinely love the State, then Akwa Ibom people cannot celebrate former Governor Udom Emmanuel enough.

It is the prevailing peace in the State, which Mr Emmanuel equally initiated and is sustained by Governor Umo Eno, that has helped the governor to record the many accomplishments of his administration in barely fifteen months in office.

The ARISE Agenda of Governor Eno is thriving because there is peace in Akwa Ibom State rather than peace of the graveyard which is often associated with political war between predecessors and successors. In a country, where headlines of hostilities between predecessors and successors over the control of power structures rend the air. “Someone cannot just come and take control of the structure I built over the years.” A typical Nigerian politician, could be quoted as saying of his successor in other states in the country.

But Mr Emmanuel who is not a typical Nigerian politician, has patriotically kept his promise, that when his time was over, he will pick his iPad and return to work as a professional that he is, and allow his successor to be fully in charge of the State. That was not mere rubric of rheotric; Mr Udom Emmanuel is a man of his word. He believes less in the elevation of greed to the detriment of the masses. Those who chanted that he wanted a third term through surrogacy have since recanted their claims.

The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has set a template in predecessor/successor relationship worthy of emulation by other political gladiators in Nigeria.

IBIAIKOT ZONE-A PROTEST TO PDP SECRETARIAT, DEMANDS TO PRODUCE NEXT NSIT ATAI CHAIRMAN

* Accuse Otuekong Raphael Bassey, Mark Esset Of Turning LGA To Their Personal Property

* As PDP State Chairman Assures Of Justice For All

By Kenneth Jude

Ahead the October local government election in Akwa Ibom State, the people of Ibiaikot Central (Zone A) have raised alarm over what they described as plot by the political leadership of the local government area in conjunction with the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) to deny them of their right to produce the next chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

They made their grievances known recently when they staged a protest at the State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic party.

Armed with different placards some of which read: "Nsit Atai belongs to everybody. It is not the personal property of Otuekong Raphael Bassey and Mark Esset", "Ibiaikot Central (Zone A) is the only zone in Ibiaikot without any elected office in Nsit Atai. We deserve chairmanship in 2024", "Ibiaikot Central has been marginalized for 25 years without any elected office in Nsit Atai", among others, the protesters who numbered over 100 insisted that it is the turn of Ibiaikot Central (Zone A) to produce the next chairman of the local government.

According to their protest letter endorsed by Engr. Ubong Obot and Hon. Victor Etim, they expressed sadness that their zone has been perpetually left in the cold since 1999, a development they said, is not in sync with justice, fairness and inclusiveness.

To further buttress their position, they explained that "In 1999, Otuekong Raphael Bassey from “Ibiaikot Zone B” (Essien Itiaba) with seven (7) recognized Villages was elected Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area. There are two wards in Essien Itiaba (Wards 4 & 5).

"In 2011, Elder Mark Esset from Ibiaikot Zone “C” (Ibiaikot Atai) with six (6) Villages was appointed Transition Chairman.

"In 2012, Elder Mark Esset from the same Ibiaikot Zone C was elected Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government from ward 9.

Leaving Ibiaikot Central (Zone A) being the only zone yet to have a taste of any political office in the area, they argued strongly that it is their turn to produce the next chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area for the sake of equity, fairness and justice.

According to them, "In 2024, the Local Government Chairmanship which is the turn of Ibiaikot again is supposed to move to “Ibiaikot Zone A” with six (6) recognized Villages and two (2) major political Wards (Wards 3 & 10). These two Wards have NEVER produced Local Government Chairman before from 1999 to date. Denying this zone the Chairmanship this time around will completely marginalize the entire community for another 25 years making 50 years."

They appealed to Governor Umo Eno who is an advocate of zoning to wage into the matter and ensure that justice is done in the matter.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting Ibiaikot Central Zone-A, Barr. Imo Udofia noted that the people of the area are demanding for justice hence their reason for staging a protest at the PDP Secretariat. "We want justice for Ibiaikot Central (Zone A). We appeal to our Governor to step into the matter and help us achieve our objective," he said.

Responding to the group, the Chairman of PDP in the state, Elder Aniekan Akpan promised that the party stands for justice, assuring that the party will do justice to their zone.

He assured that he will take their position to the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, noting that the governor who is the leader of the party will look at Nsit Atai and make things right.

Elder Akpan said that the party will be fair to all, while ensuring that zones that have never produced elected office will be considered in order to engender peace in the local government, among all zones and groups.

InvestmentProposed 18-storey Apartment( Ibom Tower), Lagos: Separating The Facts From Fict by imMannerPhilipz(op): 7:16pm On Jul 19, 2024
PRESS RELEASE

PROPOSED 18-STOREY APARTMENT( IBOM
TOWER), LAGOS: SEPARATING THE FACTS FROM FICTION

In the last couple of days, following a story by an online publication where the reporter had questioned the rationale of the proposed 18-floor apartment building (Ibom Towers) on Aboyade Cole Street, Lagos, by the Akwa Ibom State Government instead of channeling such funds to provide food for the people, there has been a feeding frenzy by certain elements within the media space.

While this press release is not intended to join issues with the reporter who wrote the story, we are, however, constrained to put the record straight since the issue has unfortunately been politicized and several unsanitized and sensational angles drawn - predicated mostly by a herd mentality rather than rational, informed, and reasoned analysis of the rationale of such an investment by the government.

His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, had, during the groundbreaking ceremony of a proposed Ewet Luxury Gardens - an upper middle class residential estate in Ewet Housing, Uyo, last Tuesday, July 16th, reemphasized his administration’s audacious plan to tap into the bullish Lagos and Abuja real estate markets, by converting hitherto state-owned moribund properties into commercial investments, to earn income for the State.

The Governor had, in his First Anniversary speech stated inter-alia that “we will undertake the construction of Ibom Towers, an 18-Storey commercial property on Aboyade Cole, Victoria Island, Lagos. This will serve as an income-earner for the state, in the nation’s commercial capital. We will also build a medium-density housing estate in Ewet Housing and sell the homes to high-income earners. A three-star hotel will also be built in Abuja where our current Liaison office is located.”

The reiteration of these great investment drives by the Governor, during the groundbreaking of the medium-density estate, in Ewet Housing touting his administration’s desire to play big in the Lagos and Abuja real estates respectively, should not therefore, be an issue where sensational narratives are being woven.

Here are the facts: Governor Umo Eno is a leader who thinks outside the box of conventional wisdom. He desires to increase the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR). He could do so by taxing the people, especially the elites who own homes in some of the choice locations in the state and the middle class and others, but he elected, in his usual people-centric ways to rather channel resources into other areas that will expand the streams of income available to the State.

The 18-storey proposed Ibom Towers will consist of thirty-one, one and two-bedroom flats, and business suites that would be sold to high-income earners and the proceeds sent to the state’s treasury.

Additionally, the administration will convert the current state Liaison office in Abuja Central Business District into a three-star hotel that will also, generate income to the state’s coffers.

The Governor, as a tested and successful businessman, should be celebrated for thinking ahead, rather than the current nattering by people who intentionally know the truth but rather elect to play to the gallery.

Governor Eno has been dubbed a “SAN-Senior Advocate of the Needy”. His story of rags to riches, of confronting debilitating adversities, overcoming them to become what he is today has been well chronicled. In his inaugural address, he told those who may be on the lower rungs of life, that he will be their champion and voice.

One year plus, since becoming the Governor, he has been the advocate for the downtrodden, the forgotten, the poor and the vulnerable. Today, every month, the elderly and the infirm receive 50 thousand naira monthly for their upkeep. Through the Bulk Purchase Agency and the free food voucher programme, over 100 thousand families have been touched. Also, AKWACARES, a programme that takes care of the neediest and those on the Social Register have impacted the lives of thousands of families in the State.

Today, over 20 billion Naira have been paid as gratuities for retirees in the state civil service, primary school teachers and retired local government workers. The Governor had augmented to the tune of five billion naira, the palliatives earlier rolled out by the Federal Government in the wake of the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Over 2 billion interest-free loans have been given to traders to expand their businesses and 500 thousand naira each given to 800 trainees of the Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme (EAP) scheme run by IBOM-LED. Free medical outreach programmes have been conducted across the state where surgeries and other medical needs were undertaken free of charge to the patients, most of them, the most vulnerable.

The Governor has undertaken the construction of Arise Humanitarian Homes - a 2-bedroom housing scheme built, furnished and donated to the most vulnerable in each of the 369 wards in the state. This gesture has been celebrated all over the nation.

Yesterday, the State Government acknowledged the receipt of 24 thousand bags of 25kg rice sent in by the Federal Government in their effort to cushion further the effect of the high cost of staple food items in the nation.

Governor Umo Eno, true to his humanitarian disposition, has doubled the donation by the Federal Government with 24 thousand additional bags bringing the total quantity to be distributed to 48 thousand. Each of the gazetted 2,272 villages will receive 20 bags each. This is quite a laudable effort by the Governor. Plans are also underway to buy staple food items and store them in two 40-foot containers, to be distributed later to voucher holders from August this year.

Finally, while the media is free to do its job as the interrogator of government’s activities, we hope some of their interrogations would be products of reason, rationality and deep intellectual capital put into analyzing government’s actions, rather than playing to the gallery and the unfortunate celebration of a herd mentality.

Governor Umo Eno came to serve, to uplift, to challenge and galvanize our people to dream more, become more and Arise further and shine. He remains irrevocably committed to that vision, and nothing will distract him.

The 18-storey proposed Ibom Towers and the three- star hotel in Abuja are great investments that would guarantee solid income to the state government.

Like Ibom Air, which was attacked and described as a “ white elephant” project by the same herd of “ nattering nabobs of negativism” apologies to the late United States one time Vice President, Spirow Agnew, the proposed Ibom Towers and the three- star hotel in Abuja, will stand out as enchanting symbols of the continuous Rise and ascendancy of the Akwa Ibom identity when completed. Governor Umo Eno should be celebrated rather than pilloried.

LG Polls: Battle for PDP Tickets intensify

…Akan Tommey, Gideon Uwa, Sunday Tom, Mercy Bassey, Get Stakeholders’ nod

Transition Committee Chairmen are not having an easy ride as the Local Government elections draw near. Investigation by Global Pilot newspaper shows that all the council Chairmen would love to return for an elective term of three years through the ballot if not for impediments such as zoning, stakeholders endorsements and statutory delegates.

“So far no local Government Chairman has openly come out to say he is not contesting this elections, meaning they are busy weighing their options. Even those who know they will not return have refused to throw in the towel due to their deep pocket and financial muscle. They hope that along the line they could pull some magic and buy their way through,” Bright Udom a public affairs analyst noted

Weeks after the Akwa Ibom Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) published notice of elections with timetable, political intrigues have disarmed some council chairmen with a technical knockout although they stress that the Primaries are yet to be conducted.

In Nsit Ubium Sen. Effiong Bob led stakeholders to put to bed contest for the office of the Chairman Of council by presenting the preferred Chairmanship aspirant Alfred Charles to the stakeholders for endorsement.

The event which held in his Ewet Housing Residence was witnessed by Barr. Onofiok Luke, Barr. Dan Akpan, Deputy Leader Of the House Of Assembly Barr. Otobong Bob, Captain Ekong, Mr Udeme Ubom, among others.

Alfred Charles who hails from Ubium clan where the seat was zoned to appreciated the Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Nsit Ubium Caucus and the people for Choosing him for leadership.

In ONNA Local Government Area the zoning by stakeholders which favors Asuna Nung Oku clan is set to be the yardstick for decision on the next Chairman of Council. The sitting Chairman Hon. Inabasi Ekanem is not Favour’s by the arrangement and will have to transit, support whoever emerges from the zoning since it’s a decision of majority of stakeholders. The Asuna Nung Oku clan comprising of eleven (11) villages is bounded by Awa Afaha clan to the east, Qua Iboe River to the west, Mkpok Village in Nung Andem clan to the south and Mbioto 2 in Etinan to the North. Created by immediate past Governor Udom Emmanuel the clan boasts of an excellent village to ward ratio ideal for political permutation.

In Ibesikpo Asutan, Zoning and stakeholders decision is playing a frontline role in how the third tier of Government shapes up. The stakeholders unanimously affirmed the zoning of Chairmanship position to Ibesikpo south which is former ward 4 and now ward 5, a move which they explain allows for FairPlay, justice and equity since the ward has never produced the council chairman before. A political analyst Lady Nancy Udom who was on ground noted “the sitting Chairman Hon. Akon Michael is from Asutan and the zoning Favours Ibesikpo south which means that she will not be returning to the office. Don’t forget she was also signatory to the zoning arrangement. This has heighten the political temperature in Abak for weeks as various documents have been sponsored in the media by the various actors in a bid to outwit each other. This battle could be decided in the field if no party pushes back except the Governor intervenes for peace to reign.

The Secretary to State Government Prince Enobong Uwah is expected to decide where the pendulum swings in Uyo Local Government Area as he is the political Leader. Governor Umo Eno's Development in Oro and the Needless Protest

Inemesit Bassey

In the face of sponsored security breaches and orchestrated protests, Governor Umo Eno's resolve to transform Oro nation remains unshaken. His administration's unwavering commitment to security, development, and youth empowerment is a testament to his visionary leadership. One must wonder, is sponsored protest in a state like Akwa Ibom, known for its peaceful and harmonious nature, truly necessary?

Despite the recent minor security incidents in coastal areas, Governor Umo Eno has demonstrated proactive governance by strengthening partnerships with security agencies and providing essential equipment. His development projects across Oro nation's local government areas and inclusive approach to governance have earned him widespread acclaim. The Governor's efforts have led to significant improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, positively impacting the lives of citizens.

However, in an embarrassing move, some youths under the aegis of Oro Redemption Forum have allowed themselves to be used by political elements to protest, rather than resorting to cordial communication should they have sensed any inconvenience. This ill-conceived protest, fueled by political machinations, seeks to undermine the administration's achievements. The protest's timing and nature suggest a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the Governor's successes and create an atmosphere of instability.

In any coastal area with porous borders, insecurity is inevitable due to the constant influx of people entering and exiting the area. This is a common challenge faced by many coastal cities around the world. For instance, Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, has struggled with security issues in its coastal areas, with reports of kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal oil bunkering. Similarly, Miami, Florida, has experienced drug trafficking and gang-related violence in its coastal areas. Even Rotterdam, Netherlands, has faced issues with drug smuggling and human trafficking in its port area. Given these examples, it's clear that coastal areas require specialized security measures to address their unique challenges. Governor Umo Eno's proactive approach to securing Oro nation's coastal areas is a step in the right direction, and his efforts should be supported rather than undermined by unnecessary protests.

Protests can have far-reaching negative consequences, diverting attention and resources away from critical development projects. They also create an unfavorable environment for growth, stifling the state's potential. It is crucial to recognize Governor Umo Eno's dedication to Oro nation's advancement and allow him to focus on his governance without unnecessary distractions. By supporting him, we can ensure continued progress and a brighter future for our state.

To say the least, Governor Umo Eno's development efforts in Oro nation are a beacon of hope. Let us rally behind his vision and work together to build a prosperous and secure future, rising above the challenges that seek to hinder our progress. We must reject the needless protest and support the Governor's initiatives, ensuring that Oro nation continues to thrive and flourish.
