PRESS RELEASE: VISIT OF THE AKWA IBOM YOUTH COALITION TO GOVERNMENT HOUSE: OUR POSITION On Tuesday, October 21, youths, under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Youth Coalition, came to Government House, Uyo, to peacefully protest over certain issues raised by a female member of the Greater Akpabio family, of which the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Chairman of the 10th National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, is a prominent and notable member. The youths had presented a letter stating their concerns, which was duly received by the Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien, on behalf of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., Governor, Akwa Ibom State. While, as Government, we don’t dabble into family matters whose resolutions reside purely within the realms of privacy and family level, we, however, appeal to our younger generation not to destroy the leaders God has raised for us at all levels by besmirching their character, attacking their integrity, and making wild and oftentimes unfounded allegations against them. We must show respect to our leaders at all times across party lines and not be known to be the ones who seek to destroy our prophets. Our leaders across party lines are our enduring assets, and we must not engage in tendencies that may, in the long run, diminish their standing in society. We have always been a society that shows respect to our leaders. Let us return to that path of civility in our engagements with our leaders. We must maintain the peace we are nationally known for. It is the peace we enjoy that brings development, attracts visitors and tourists to our State, and we must guard this great gift jealously. Let me reiterate here that the wounds of vituperative outbursts hurled at our leaders may heal, but the scars may remain ever fresh. While we reiterate the fact that family feuds remain within the confines of privacy, we wish to add that the Office and Person of the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria bring great and immense pride to the people of Akwa Ibom State and should, therefore, be accorded the highest respect possible. Let us exercise restraint and better ways of resolving conflicts at all levels. Ekerete Udoh Chief Press Secretary to the Governor October 23, 2025.

IBOM INTERNATIONAL HOTEL: FROM COMMONWASTE TO COMMONWEALTH On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, after returning from the flag-off ceremony for the ARISE Youth Friendly Center in Nsit Ubium, I decided to make a brief stopover at the Tropicana Mall on Udoudoma Avenue to pick up some groceries. As I exited the mall, my ears were pricked by the sibilance of heavy construction work at the Ibom International Hotel, located less than 400 meters within the 82-hectares of the Tropicana complex. Drawn by curiosity, I skirted around the mall to the construction site. It was a busy hive of industry, swarming with haulage trucks, day laborers, engineers, and safety professionals in reflective gear. And towering over it all was the gigantic 14-storey hotel building, wrapped in skeletal scaffolding. A few men as little as birds, perched on the steel framework, while a massive crane arched close to the building. For over 15 years, this 200-room, abandoned 14-storey hotel stood in infamy, with its massive grey concrete and sun-bleached blue glass dominating that end of the city skyline like a menacing tombstone. As I inched closer to the site, the warm golden glow of the evening sun caught a male laborer idling in front of me. Not more than 35 years old, he seemed much like he might have been molded from the dust of the site. His dark skin and face and hair were coated in pale grit. There were countless others like him at the site. Perhaps a hundred, both male and female. But Mr Alade, the admin officer disagreed with the figure the moment I sat in his air-conditioned container cabin to discuss it. There are 320 workers here on any given day,” he said matter-of-factly. “And upon completion, the hotel is expected to add a significant number of jobs to the 3,000 jobs projected for the Ibom Tropicana complex.” “That’s impressive.” I replied “The governor seems quite impressed by the pace of work in the hotel the last time he visited. When is the project expected to be completed?” I prodded. He did not hesitate. “Well, barring force majeure or other unforeseen circumstances, this project would be ready for commissioning in eight months.” I made a mental note. “That’s May, 2026?” “Absolutely”. He said. “Including the landscaping and all?” Sensing my anxiety, he arched his head backward in a smile. The construction site was a vast, chaotic mountain of debris and craters filled with muddy water. “Quite soon, the landscaping will begin.” He assured. “And when it’s completed, the result will be as picture perfect as what you see in the model,” he said, pointing to the picture of the hotel model on the wall. I took a few pictures. I left the site feeling a warm, satisfying sense of pride. Governor Umo Eno had resurrected a dream everyone had written off. By mustering the political will to pull this off barely two years into office, he has definitively rejected the corrosive culture of abandoning the previous administration's projects and set a new template for those to come after him. A couple of years back, the Tropicana project was labeled a white elephant and impossible to actualize by not a few prominent voices in the state. And it’s debatable whether or not their fears were justified. The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, in one of his live interactive sessions with the media acknowledged the project was non-viable. But despite his observation, the forward-thinking governor, to his credit, pressed on and completed the Tropicana Mall, one of the key components of the project. Where Mr Emmanuel expressed cautious skepticism about Tropicana project, Arc, (Obong) Victor Attah, Godswill Akpabio’s predecessor, was emphatic in his condemnation as soon as it was conceptualized. He noted that the project raised environmental concerns, structural concerns and even siting concerns. Not given to repressing his opinion on topical issues, he had written a lengthy letter to that effect to then-Governor Godswill Akpabio who, as it turned out, did not think he was deserving of such a letter. What followed was a media blitzkrieg against Obong Attah which eventually birthed the famous rebuttal from the media handlers of then governor “What does Attah really want?” This honest recollection is not intended to stir strife, exhume contentious issues surrounding the 16-year-old project, or insinuate that Godswill Akpabio’s vision was faulty. Its purpose is simply to provide a brief backdrop to the project’s unfolding story. As a matter of fact, dwelling on past conflicts serves no purpose, not with Governor Umo Eno at the helm of affairs. He is a conciliator, a unifier, and a peacemaker, the one charged with the ministry of reconciliation. “We have resolved to put the past behind us. We have structures on ground, what I’m doing now is to see all of the vision, what it was all about, how we can link them together and how we can revive them. This is Akwa Ibom money and so my duty as Governor is to protect the assets of Government, life and property of the people. Government has sunk in so much money here and so I believe we can look at it. “For me, what is important, going forward, is how we can reclaim this place and make it functional. This project when completed will provide thousands of jobs to Akwa Ibom people “ the governor said. Beyond the 200 rooms Ibom International Hotel, which lies within the 82-hectare Tropicana complex, work has progressed significantly on the Ibom International Conference Center. Furthermore, the Ibom Shopping City has been approved, with work set to commence soon. It is worth recalling that Governor Umo Eno has consistently demonstrated ability to convert our commonwaste to commonwealth. Evidence abound. The Arise Recreational Park for instance, which was given birth to on a ravine is transforming into a world class resort facility with completion date set for December 2025.

GOV ENO: BUILDING THE YOUTH WITH DURABLE MATERIALS Something spectacular happened across Akwa Ibom, Nigeria's 21st State, on 21st October, 2025. It was a day Governor Umo Eno confirmed once again that his administration's prioritization of the youth is beyond the rubrics of rheotric to actualities. The governor seemingly suspended the traditional dictum that 'youths are the leaders to tomorrow." That tomorrow has been fast tracked and the youths made to walk into their future, a future brimming with opportunities. All of this were contained in Governor Eno's message at the Flag-off of the youth friendly centre at Ibiaku Ikot Ukana, Ikono Local Government Area, where the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga. The Flag-off was held simultaneously in eleven pilot local government areas across the State. If that passed for the story, what should pass for the memory verse is that all the commissioners who represented the Governor at the different locations were also youth. Therefore, even if it sounds selfish to say that this is "Government of the youth, by the youth and for the youth," it is safe to say that the flag off of the youth friendly centres was "a day of the youth, for the youth and by the youth." Governor Eno's representative at Ikono, Princess Emem Ibanga was the worthy ambassador of the youth there. She was accompanied by another signpost of the youth in the State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke. The message of the Governor's representative, Princess Emem Ibanga centred on peace and development, to the point of nearly referring to her as "The Princess of Peace" but not for the fear of sounding blasphemous. But if that is allowed to pass her, certainly not the fact that she rightly passed for "Princess of the Youth." The Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner unveiled "youth affairs" of the governor. Ever heard of the Nigerian expression, "You Finish Work!"? It is a unique version of commendation for excellent delivery! That is the most appropriate way to capture the novelty of this Governor Umo Eno's well-thought out idea of youth-friendly centres across Akwa Ibom State. This could be lovely decided from the tone and tenor of the message of the Governor Eno through the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs. It could be deduced from this message that youths are the heartbeat of the Umo Eno administration, hence the commitment to fulfilling all the campaign promises for the youth. The Governor’s message was wrapped in irresistible "wrapping paper" of peace. The message of peace was wrapped with peace. Princess Ibanga conveyed the appreciation of the Governor to Ikono for donating the land for the project, and very importantly the peaceful disposition of youths of the area towards all government projects, and urged them to replicate same as the contractor commences work on the youth-friendly centre. To cap it, the contract for the construction of the youth friendly centre at Ikono was awarded to a youth, and strategically, an indigene of Ikono Local Government Area. The sprouting of youth-friendly centres across Akwa Ibom is a reminder of Governor Eno's pre-election promise that previous administrations had built the youth, therefore he was coming to literarily "roof" the youth. With the flag off that took place across the eleven pilot centres, the governor has not only roofed the youths, he has gone ahead to furnish them with golden furniture. In the actual sense, Governor Eno is building the youth for durability and sustainability. It was therefore not surprising to hear the different stakeholders of Ikono, for instance, drum support for the governor's re-election in 2027. The Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Otobong Essien said the youth friendly centres is synonymous with economic centres, and that since the governor never disappointed Ikono, the people will stand by him. Representatives of the primary beneficiaries of the project, the youth, Mr Uwem Umoren, the women, Mrs Magdalene Effiong, royal fathers, and the entire political class were all united in reaffirming their support for Governor Eno. Princess Ibanga then called on the people to replicate same support they pledged for Governor Eno to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. Nothing short of this pledge of total support could have been more appropriate to a Governor that is a model for inclusivity in governance, running a government where the young and the old, men and women, are carried along as equal partners in the Akwa Ibom Project. Dr Imoh Etimudo, PA to the Governor on Research and Documentation, writes from Ikono.

From the onset of his administration, Governor Eno has consistently emphasized that the youth constitute the backbone of the ARISE Agenda, and that investing in their growth, creativity, and productivity remains central to building a prosperous Akwa Ibom State. The construction of the Youth-Friendly Centres, is a strategic step toward providing safe, functional, and innovative spaces where young people can learn, collaborate, and build the skills required for success in the modern economy. The ten pilot local government areas for the first phase of the project are Etinan, Uruan, Mkpat Enin, Urue Offong/Oruko, Itu, Etim Ekpo, Nsit Atai, Nsit Ubium, Eastern Obolo, and Ikono. These LGAs were selected for being the first to provide land for the project, which shows their readiness to partner in youth advancement. Each centre will feature a Creative Development Hub, ICT Centre, E-Library, Recreation Lounge, Co-Working Space, and a Coffee Shop, all within a secure, solar-powered environment. These facilities are designed to nurture creativity, inspire entrepreneurship, and provide conducive spaces for personal and professional development. This initiative also aligns seamlessly with the ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes human capacity development as a catalyst for inclusive growth and social transformation. For Governor Eno, youth empowerment is beyond a policy statement; it is a deliberate strategy to equip young citizens with the tools to compete, create, and contribute meaningfully to society. As the flag-off holds today across the pilot local government areas, it signals a new dawn for Akwa Ibom’s youth, a future where potential meets purpose, and where the dreams of young people find fertile ground to grow.

The partnership was initiated during a working visit by a SSDC delegation, led by its Managing Director, Ms Usoro Akpabio to LPV Technologies’ state-of-the-art, fully automated, and AI-integrated solar manufacturing plant in Ikotun, Lagos, on Monday. This initiative, which follows recent engagements between the SSDC and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), seeks to accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions across the South-South region. It is strategically aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s policy framework promoting local content participation in renewable energy manufacturing. During the visit, the SSDC delegation was warmly received by the Chairman of Levene Energy, parent company of LPV Technologies, Mr. Nzan Ogbe, and his management team, who conducted an extensive tour of the advanced solar production facility. The visit showcased Nigeria’s growing industrial capability in renewable energy manufacturing and highlighted opportunities for collaboration in technology transfer, human capital development, and regional expansion. LPV Technologies’ business model anchored on local sourcing, automation, and innovation was commended as a practical example of how domestic industry can drive sustainable growth and support the stability of the Naira through value-added production. Speaking during the visit, Ms Usoro Akpabio described the engagement as a highly productive milestone in the Commission’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable energy access and inclusive regional development. She emphasized that the partnership will represent a concrete demonstration of SSDC’s transition from planning to action in implementing its clean energy agenda. “This partnership represents a concrete demonstration of our shift from planning to action,” Ms Akpabio said. “Through strategic collaboration with credible private sector partners such as LPV Technologies, we are working to deliver reliable and affordable electricity to communities across the South-South while promoting local manufacturing, job creation, and value addition to the national economy.” Ms Akpabio reaffirmed the SSDC’s commitment to the Federal Government’s clean energy transition and local content development policies, noting that sustainable partnerships such as this will not only enhance energy access but also foster innovation, youth empowerment, and environmental resilience. SSDC Seeks Strategic Partnership with NEMA to Strengthen Disaster Response in South-South Abuja, October 16, 2025 – The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has expressed its readiness to partner with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to enhance disaster preparedness, response, and resilience across the South-South region. Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Managing Director of the SSDC, Ms. Usoro Akpabio commended NEMA for its consistent and life-saving efforts in disaster management and humanitarian response nationwide. “Your work has saved lives, restored hope, and brought stability to countless communities in times of crisis,” the SSDC boss stated. “For us at the South-South Development Commission, this meeting is both timely and strategic, as our region continues to grapple with recurrent flooding, coastal erosion, oil spills, and communal displacements.” She emphasized that such disasters have far-reaching socio-economic impacts, disrupting livelihoods, destroying farmlands, and impeding sustainable development in the region. Highlighting the importance of institutional collaboration, the SSDC Managing Director noted that no meaningful development can thrive in an environment of constant emergency, and therefore called for stronger synergy between both agencies in key areas such as: • Flood and environmental management through early warning systems and community preparedness; • Joint emergency response to oil spills and related environmental crises; • Support for internally displaced persons through improved shelter and livelihood restoration; • Capacity building for local and state emergency agencies; and • Data sharing and disaster mapping for improved coordination and planning. To formalize the partnership, she proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SSDC and NEMA, and the establishment of a Joint Technical Committee to drive implementation. In her response, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, welcomed the initiative and affirmed the Agency’s commitment to working closely with the SSDC in advancing disaster resilience and sustainable development in the South-South region. She outlined NEMA’s ongoing programs, including the training school at the University of Port Harcourt, where young people are being trained as first responders to emergencies within their communities. Mrs. Umar, however, identified logistical and terrain challenges, such as bad roads, weak communication networks, and inadequate staffing in some State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs), as key obstacles to effective disaster response. She therefore urged the SSDC to encourage state governments to strengthen their SEMA offices and promote frequent environmental sanitation exercises to ensure waterways remain clear of refuse. The NEMA DG further advised that response efforts should not only focus on the distribution of relief materials but also address the root causes of disasters through infrastructural development and collaboration with relevant agencies such as the River Basin Authorities, Ministries of Water Resources, and Environment. She cautioned against compromising Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports and stressed the importance of seeking the developmental plans of states before embarking on projects to prevent encroachment into areas unsuitable for human habitation, which could worsen environmental degradation. Both agencies reaffirmed their shared commitment to safeguarding lives, restoring livelihoods, and building resilient communities across the South-South region through a coordinated, data-driven, and sustainable framework for disaster management.

Abass Charges SSDC Management On Cooperation With State Governments For Development Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has charged the management of the South South Development Commission (SSDC) on the need to work closely with state governments in the region, inorder to avoid duplication of projects and interventions. Abbas gave the charge when he received in courtesy, the management of the SSDC led by its Managing Director/CEO, Ms Usoro Akpabio in his office in Abuja. The Speaker commended the Management and Board of the SSDC for their early show of purpose and unity, emphasising the need for the Commission to "work closely with state governments in the region and avoid duplication of roles, noting that collaboration and coordination will be key to achieving meaningful impact." According to Abass, " let me advice the management on the need to prioritize prudence, accountability, and integrity, because these are the pillars upon which enduring institutions are built. “The foundation you lay today will determine the future of the Commission. Learn from the experiences of others, build strong partnerships, and ensure that your programmes deliver tangible dividends to the people through impactful projects that will accelerate development and empowerment across the region,” the Speaker stated. Earlier in her speech, the Managing Director/CEO expressed deep appreciation to the Speaker for his warm reception despite his tight schedule, describing him as “regionally friendly, youth-focused, and gender-sensitive.” She noted that the visit was primarily to express gratitude for the Speaker’s pivotal role in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which birthed the South-South Development Commission, and to officially inform him of the Commission’s readiness to commence full operations across the six states of the South-South region. Akpabio noted that the SSDC’s mandate is anchored on driving regional economic transformation through human capital development, healthcare, education, social services, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure renewal, waterways, environmental sustainability, blue-marine economy, agro-industrial growth, regional stability for peace and conflict resolutions. She assured the Speaker of the Commission’s readiness to operate on the principles of accountability, transparency, integrity, and prudence, while seeking his continued guidance and legislative support in the discharge of its duties. “The SSDC stands today as a testament to the visionary legislative leadership of the National Assembly under your amiable self and the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. Your steadfast support for regional commissions demonstrates a deep commitment to balanced development and equitable opportunities for all regions of our nation,” she stated. The visit follows a similar engagement recently paid to the President of the Senate, where the SSDC Management expressed appreciation for his role in actualizing the establishment of the Commission and reaffirmed its commitment to the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The courtesy call to the Speaker reaffirms the Commission’s resolve to build strong institutional ties with both chambers of the National Assembly and other stakeholders, in pursuit of a prosperous and inclusive South-South.

CULTISM, DRUGS A ONE-WAY TICKET TO DESTRUCTION, POLICE WARN FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, IDIDEP PIONEER STUDENTS …Provost assures scholars of quality education, as college holds maiden orientation The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday declared that campus cultism and drug abuse remain a fast track to a bleak future, warning new scholars to steer clear of the twin vices. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘D’ Division, Itam, CSP Ezeubuike, who stood in for the State Commissioner of Police, did not mince words during the college's historic orientation lecture, stating that cultists often experience a false sense of power while their "end is drawing closer." “Do not join cultism; they will influence you negatively from positive to negative,” CSP Ezeubuike charged the attentive students. “Some of you started well from a good home but coming to school and joining cultism upturned the good foundation laid by your parents.” The police chief extended his caution to the rampant drug culture on campuses, linking narcotics to the rising cases of madness, rape, and other social decadence. “Shun drugs. The number of people going mad daily. Drugs kill faster,” he asserted, specifically listing dangerous substances like ‘combined’ (a lethal cocktail of substances), cannabis, and codeine-based syrups, popularly known as ‘Colos.’ “Drugs push people to rape, indecent dressing and other ills of the society,” CSP Ezeubuike insisted. “Run away from drugs because it is easy to start.” The orientation exercise, held at the college's assembly hall, served as a formal welcome to the institution's first-ever intake of students ahead of their landmark matriculation ceremony on Wednesday. Provost’s Assurance of Quality The College Provost, Dr. Edem Archibong, offered a message of hope and assurance, telling the students they had made the right choice. “You will not be disappointed by choosing FCE Ididep. We are going to empower you with knowledge to function well in the society. Congratulations that you are at the right place,” Dr. Archibong stated, setting a tone of academic promise and institutional support. A Unified Front Against Indiscipline The event also featured a roll-call of the college's principal officers, who all reinforced the message of discipline and academic excellence. The Registrar, Mr. Nsemeke Udoakpan; the Bursar, Mr. Samuel Oyighocho; and the Librarian, Dr. Celina Nongo, each took turns to enlighten the students on the administrative, financial, and intellectual resources available to them. Adding a poignant perspective from the justice system, a retired Superintendent of Corrections, Mr. Victor Obot, also addressed the freshmen. Drawing from his extensive experience within the correctional services, he provided a stark, real-life context to the warnings against crime and social misconduct, implicitly outlining the potential consequences of deviating from the path of lawfulness. The landmark event concluded with a clear mandate to the students: to leverage the opportunity of being pioneers to build a legacy of excellence and shun all vices that could truncate their academic journey and future prospects. UMOENOISM: A Concept of Peace above Politics By Essien Ndueso I make bold to borrow this coinage from Usman Alkali, a former Inspector General of Police, who during the just concluded Security Tax Fund launch in Uyo had eulogized the Governor for his humility and passion in ensuring peace in the State. For him, Umo Eno is sincere, humble, and peaceable, and these attributes have placed the State as a model for peace. In an age where political rivalry too often overshadows the call to service, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State is writing a fresh chapter, one defined not by division, but by unity, peace, and inclusive development. His leadership style, reminiscent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s welcoming disposition, reflects a simple yet powerful truth: progress knows no party lines. This truth came alive during the commissioning of the Ikot Esu–Otomo–Azumini Road, a landmark 15.13-kilometre project inherited from the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel. Stretching from Ika in Akwa Ibom into Abia State, with 3.5 kilometres lying within Ukwa East local government of Abia State, the road is more than asphalt and concrete. It is a symbol of connectivity linking all the clans in Ika Local Government, while providing easier access to neighbouring South East States and beyond. By completing and commissioning this project, Governor Umo Eno has proven once again that development transcends politics. Standing tall at the event was the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike a PDP stalwart invited by Governor Eno to cut the ribbon on a project executed by an APC government. It was a moment that echoed the President’s decision to bring Wike into his cabinet despite their political differences. The message was clear: competence, not party card, should drive progress. For Ika people, the road has already become a lifeline, binding three clans together while creating smoother connections to trade, education, and healthcare. For Akwa Ibom State, it represents something even deeper, the triumph of peace and unity over division. History is full of lessons, and Governor Eno is a keen student. He has often pointed out that in places where peace is absent, development stalls. Wike himself can attest to this: Rivers State just ended a six-month state of emergency, during which no meaningful projects were commissioned because peace had taken flight. Akwa Ibom, on the other hand, has nurtured peace as its greatest asset. Indeed, it was a peace mantra instituted by the immediate past Government of Udom Emmanuel, that birthed the Umo Eno era. From day one, Governor Eno has worn peace like a garment. In one of his recent speeches, he declared that he had “no business inheriting anyone’s enemies.” For him, the true business of leadership lies in bringing all interests, all shades of opinion, and all groupings together to build a United Akwa Ibom. This philosophy has given birth to the state’s newest and perhaps boldest identity since its creation: “Akwa Ibom United” also called “The United State of Akwa Ibom.” With this mantra, the governor is erasing the lines of political, ethnic, and geographical segregation that once limited the spirit of collective progress. This peaceable stance, may not situate well with certain people, especially those who usually make commercial capitals from crises scenarios. The political merchants who may have been rendered redundant in their war - war philosophy, especially when Pastor Eno believes that the funds which would have gone into arresting political impasse, can make more meaning in the construction of rural infrastructure and empowerment of the less privileged. The enthusiasm at Ika during the road commissioning attested to this new wave. People from every walk of life, farmers, traders, civil servants, youths, and elders turned out in their numbers, not for a political rally, but for a celebration of development. What they witnessed was rare in Nigerian politics: a governor who places the people before politics, and development before division. Umoenoism is refreshing. It shows that a leader does not have to deepen rivalries to gain relevance. Instead, by choosing peace, by valuing unity, and by opening doors to those once seen as political adversaries, he charts a course that could well redefine governance in Nigeria. Quote me right, past leaders in the State performed remarkably well, despite the fierce political rivalry, that polarized the state across party and structural lines. It can only be imagined, the magnitude of progress that a more united common front will achieve for the State. In truth, development has a strong and unbreakable bond with peace. Where there is peace, there is progress. Where there is unity, there is growth. And where there is inclusiveness, there is sustainability. Akwa Ibom today stands as a proof of this assertions. Umoenoism is not just about roads, bridges, or catchphrases. It is about a vision: a state where politics bows to progress, where enemies give way to allies, and where the future is built together. In this vision, Akwa Ibom is not just a state, it is a family, united in peace and moving forward in development.

IKA-AZUMINI ROAD INAUGURATION: WIKE, GOV ENO HARP ON UNITY FOR PROGRESS UNITY AND LOVE have again been described as key elements necessary for growth and progress in the society. This was the central theme in the speeches by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno,PhD, and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during the commissioning of a 15.13km Ika – Azumini Road and a 1.53km internal roads in Ika local government area. The road commencing from Ikot Esu in Ika, stretches 3kilometers into Azumini in Ukwa East local government of Abia State. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike lauded Governor Umo Eno for charting the cause of Unity in Akwa Ibom State, saying it is the easiest means of breeding development. He said by agreeing to move the State to the center, work with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Eno will attract more visible federal attention to the State. “For the first time, your State is having the Number Three Citizen of the country, the Senate President. “How will you be happy that the governor is right, the Senate President is left, will that bring development to the state,” Wike quipped. Mr Wike who made reference to the recent political crises in his home State(Rivers), explained further, that leaders must always be ready to make sacrifices in the interest of their State. Mr Wike said, “I have always associated myself with those who mean well for their people. Your Governor has shown the love that he has for the people of Akwa Ibom state.” He commended the bi-partisanship stance of Governor Eno, especially how he went to construct a road leading to the hometown of the State representative in the Federal Executive Council, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, without arguing that they were then in different political platforms. The FCT Minister corroborated the position of the Akwa Ibom Governor, that more funds were available to Governors in the States to carry out development projects for their people, because of President Tinubu’s audacious economic reforms programmes, and urged for more support of the President. Governor Eno who re-emphasized his desire to ensure completion of projects initiated by his predecessors, said “the commissioning of this road further shows our resolve to deploy our finisher’s anointing element of governance for the common good of the people. “Governance, I have always said, is a continuum, it does not matter who started a project, what is important is to finish the project for the common good of all. Appreciating the Abia State Governor for cooperating with the State for the good of the larger populace, Governor Umo Eno said, “this road opens Ika to commercial opportunities, as it provides a seamless link to the commercial nerve centre of the South East, Aba, Abia State. He said the other roads for commissioning, “the internal roads in Ikot Udom, built by Hensek Integrated Services, is in fulfilment of a promise I made last year to the Honourable Minister of State Gas, and to also help our people in that area to be able to do their businesses. “So, for me, development is not about party, development is about the common good of the people, and you are who you are, regardless of where you are. The Governor recounted that in February last year, he flagged off the 16-kilometre Midim Atan-Ikot Inyang-Ikot Akpan Ekpenyong- Udo that stretches from Essien Udim through Etim Ekpo to Ika, with a 30-metre-span bridge, and urged the Ministry of Works to ensure that the contractor NSIK Engineering expedites action on completion of the road. “If in the next three months, that road does not receive the speed that I expect I will terminate that contract. In three months, Chairman of Ika,Etim Ekpo and Essien Udim local government areas, if in three months that road doesn't receive speed, please let me know. “I will terminate that contract, I will bring another contractor, and if there's any money the contractor is owing us when we terminate the contract, I will not let the contractor go away with our money. “We're here to work for our people, and we'll do so, no matter whose ox is gored. We will do the work, and we'll deliver, because we ask for the job, and we must ensure that we deliver on our mandate.” Governor Eno who insisted that “time is not in our favour,” insisted that he will not allow any contractor to drag us into some unnecessary delays that will affect us.” “When I come back to Ika for campaign, I expect to just come and dance, and dance. When we dance, we dance for President Tinubu, we dance for Senator Godswill Akpabio, we dance for Governor Umo Eno.” The Chairman of Ika Barr Utibe Nwoko lauded the Governor on the construction of the road, saying that it was unprecedented in the history of the local government area. “My people say I should thank you our Governor, because this is the first time a road has been flagged off and completed in our local government. He said the road has both security and economic viability, and connects the area with the states in the south east and other south-south states. “This road also leads to the biggest market in Ika, the Mkpohoeto Market. This road is not just a road, this road is a connectivity and it connects the three clans of Ika. Your Excellency, this road is one road too many”, the Ika Chairman added. In their separate goodwill messages, leaders from the area, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko,SAN and Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, also expressed their gratitude to the Governor and pledged the unflinching support of their people to the re-election of the Governor in 2027. The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga who recalled how the Governor, upon assumption of office, collated the road among other inherited projects in the State, and injected funds to ensure its completion. “Your Excellency, you insisted that we should construct the road into Abia, since it is still in Nigeria. That is why the road has 3.5km in Azumini, Abia State.I love the compassion you have brought to governance in our State.” The Managing Director of Cossel Engineering,Engr. Cosmas Anigbogu admitted that the terrain of the project was tough but that the Governor graciously funded the project to completion. He appreciated the Governor for the opportunity he gave them to execute the project.

BEING THE TEXT OF THE BROADCAST SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, Ph.D., GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE MARKING THE STATE’S 38TH ANNIVERSARY – SEPTEMBER 23, 2025. Fellow Akwa Ibomites. 1. I come to you this morning full of gratitude to God and to you, my dear people, for the great journey of purpose we have collectively undertaken in the past 38 years. 2. It has been a journey of renewal, of phenomenal growth, of undiluted peace, of the deepening of bonds of unity, kindred spirit, and pride in our collective identity. It has been a journey that will gladden the hearts of our founding fathers who had prayed, consulted, and dreamed of a homogeneous state of shared values, ethos, and drive, but their hope was not realized in their time. 3. Thirty-eight years ago, that dream came alive with the creation of our dear State, the Land of Promise – a land of valiant and resourceful people, Akwa Ibom State. 4. Let me again, on behalf of the Government and people of this great State, thank and celebrate our former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR (rtd.), for this unique gift. May God continue to bless him with good health, a sound mind, and spirit. 5. Thirty-eight years ago, this State, especially the Capital City of Uyo, was, for all intents and purposes, a glorified village – a rural backwater bereft of modern infrastructure. 6. Today, thirty-eight years later, our State has become the destination of choice, the nation’s best kept secret. In place of dusty, narrow streets, some of which looked like bush tracks, we now have possibly the best road network in the nation. Our people, long thought to be mostly good at performing domestic chores, have all arisen and are holding commanding positions across the world in various professions. 7. Uyo today is home to some of the most elegant housing estates in the nation. A thriving airline, Ibom Air, carries our flag of excellence in the nation’s aviation sector – signposting our ascendancy in that sector. 8. In sports, we are the official FIFA and CAF designated host of World Cup and African Cup football matches. All over the State, the energy is infectious, our people are hopeful, and the sunny disposition on what the future holds is palpable. Our economic fundamentals are strong and resilient as we ARISE together to build a golden future that unlocks our potentials. 9. It has been thirty-eight years of God’s blessings – of lifting up when there appeared to be a casting down, and we should all be very proud. 10. Let me at this time pay my glowing tributes to all our past Governors. 11. These leaders were passionate, determined, and focused in moving our State forward, and we should celebrate and honour them for their service to the State, rather than disrespecting or castigating their legacies. We owe them deep respect. 12. Today, we are determined to expand the frontiers of all those developmental gains and prime our State away from dependency on oil to tourism, which is the new black gold. 13. Through our Governance Blueprint, the Arise Agenda, we have reignited our passion in agriculture and the need to produce our staple food so our people may have enough to feed their families and to earn income too. 14. The tree crop development plan, which we will soon launch, will provide generational and sustainable economic prosperity for our people and restore our place as the nation’s leading oil palm producers. I urge you to participate in this exercise once it is launched. 15. We are providing access roads in our rural communities and have expanded the road infrastructure in the State as we had promised. To date, we have done 771 kilometres of road either commissioned or ongoing across the three senatorial districts – some of these roads were inherited from past administrations on which we have deployed our finisher’s anointing. 16. Tomorrow, September 24th, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, H.E. Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, will help commission the 15.13km Ikot Otomo–Azumini Road and other internal roads in Ika Local Government Area. 17. Security has been strengthened, and just a few days ago, we launched the Akwa Ibom Security Trust Fund aimed at bringing the private sector together in the onerous task of ensuring we remain one of the nation’s safe, secure, and peaceful states. We thank our security agencies for their collaborative efforts with us. 18. Our schools and healthcare services remain major areas of attention. We will continue to build model healthcare centres across the State as well as model primary and secondary schools in the three senatorial districts. The emergency we recently declared in the healthcare sector will address the gaps in that sector. We hope to flag off the construction of our 350-bed Ibom International Hospital along the medical corridor as well as the commissioning of the Arise Elders Care Centre, also along the same corridor. 19. Through our administration’s compassionate interventions, we have built 267 fully furnished and solar-powered two-bedroom flats out of 500 planned for the vulnerable. In addition, our free food distribution programme, drawn from the State’s verified Social Register, is now in its third phase, and we have so far reached over 500,000 households. These interventions are practical demonstrations of our commitment to inclusive growth and to protecting the most vulnerable in our society. Last week, we had our Power Summit and came out with actionable plans to work towards providing electricity for all. 20. We are priming our State as the tourism hub of the nation. Our audacious Arise Resort, which has been celebrated by all who have inspected it, will be commissioned in December and is expected to draw visitors in millions to our State. We are building the 5,000-capacity International Convention Centre, the 200-room Ibom Hotel, and Arise City Centre – all located within the Tropicana grounds. 21. The Ibom Hotels and Apartments in Abuja as well as Ibom Towers and Apartments in Lagos – all previously moribund State assets which we have now converted into money-earning ventures – are ongoing. 22. Let me end this broadcast by again appealing to you, my dear people, to remain united, peaceful, and hopeful. As the political season unfolds, I urge us not to allow the flaming passion of politics to divide us. Elections will come and go, but the Akwa Ibom spirit of love and brotherhood will remain. We are running Akwa Ibom United across party lines. 23. I urge our leaders and stakeholders not to engage in spreading damaging or inflammatory rhetoric, but to “rise beyond ethnicity” and “build with love our promise land” as our State Anthem has so greatly enjoined us to. We should eschew bitterness in our political engagements and embrace the ennobling ideals of love and unity. 24. I also appeal to our youths not to be used as agents to cause violence, because the law will take its course on anyone who flouts the rules and the sanctity of public peace. 25. Let me again thank our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the love he has shown us and the cooperation he has equally extended to our dear son, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, GCON. We pledge our unflinching support to him as he submits himself again in 2027 for Nigerians to return him to Aso Rock to complete his audacious reforms that have already started to bear fruits across the Nigerian economic and social sectors. 26. Let us all Arise to a Renewed Hope for Akwa Ibom and for Nigeria. God bless Akwa Ibom State, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Happy 38th Anniversary!

GOV ENO DECLARES OPEN ELECTRICITY SUMMIT, VOWS TO END ELECTRICITY IMPASSE IN AKWA IBOM Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pst. Umo Bassey Eno PhD, has declared the Akwa Ibom Electricity Summit 2025 open, describing it as a major turning point in the State’s quest for energy security and unlimited access to power. He says the time has come for someone to take a critical decision to make things work in the State’s power sector by asking the right questions and getting the right answers. Speaking at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, Thursday, Governor Eno said the summit must move beyond being another talk shop to producing a practical roadmap with timelines, clear responsibilities, and measurable outcomes. “For decades, our people have lived with the paradox of great energy potentials but little to show for it. Electricity is not a luxury; it is a fundamental enabler of modern life. “This Summit should deliver a concrete action plan that ensures every home, every business, and every school in Akwa Ibom has reliable power.” Speaking further, Governor Eno underscored the importance of collaboration between the State and the Federal government, recalling the recent MoU signed with the Rural Electrification Agency to expand access in underserved communities. He also stressed that Akwa Ibom state's electricity reforms would be anchored on transparency, professionalism, and partnerships with the private sector, development partners, and local communities. “Our vision is ambitious but achievable. We will not politicize electricity. We will build a State electricity market that stands the test of time and serves our people.” Earlier in her welcome address, Deputy Governor and Chairperson of the Summit Organizing Committee, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, described the gathering as a historic moment, not only for Akwa Ibom State but for Nigeria as a whole. She noted that with the passage of the Electricity Act 2023 and the State’s own Electricity Law 2025, Akwa Ibom had the foundation to chart its own electricity market. “This summit is structured to align politics, policy, and investment with technical and financial reforms that will deliver real change. She further urged participants, regulators, investors, development partners, and community leaders to approach discussions with seriousness and focus, with the ultimate goal of producing a State Electricity Sector Action Programme to guide implementation. In his separate goodwill messages, Minister of Power represented by his Chief Technical Adviser, Hon. Adedoyin Oluwoniyi, lauded Governor Eno for taking a bold step toward energy reform. “This summit is timely and significant. As Akwa Ibom is energized, industry will grow, productivity will rise, and the economy will expand." Mr. Eyo Ekpo, Team Lead of Power Component UKNIAF, and representatives of donor agencies including the UN Development Programs, pledged support for the State’s electricity ambitions, emphasizing that the journey to a state-led electricity market was critical for Nigeria’s development. Other goodwill messages also came from the Speaker of the House of Representatives who was represented by Hon. Victor Nwokolo, Chairman, House Committee on Power, representatives of the Governors of Enugu, Abia, Cross River, and Bayelsa States, all of whom praised Akwa Ibom for setting a precedent that would benefit other states. Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Eket Senatorial District, who spoke for the National Assembly Caucus from the State, described the initiative as bold and impressive, promising their readiness to move for legislative backings to ensure that the reforms succeed. Highpoint of the event was the official unveiling of the State Electricity Regulatory Policy and the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Law, jointly performed by Governor Eno, Deputy Governor Eyakenyi, representative of the Speaker of House of Representatives, the Minister of Power’s representative, and other dignitaries, including the Governors’ representatives, the Chairman of Ibom Power, Acting Managing Director of Ibom Power, the Attorney General, and the Commissioner for Justice, the Secretary to the State Government and the Executive Assistant to the Governor.
