AKWA IBOM: TACKLING DERELICTION OF DUTIES BY ABSENTEEISM DOCTORS When the Akwa Ibom State Government announced disciplinary proceedings against two consultant doctors accused of absenteeism and other infractions of the public service rules, it stirred diverse reactions from members of the public. But for families that have lost loved ones due to situations where doctors were absent, the pain may never assuage. Weeks ago, the public empathised with Ndifreke Amos, whose wails of agony over the avoidable demise of her sister and her sister's newborn at General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene, could not be ignored. That unfortunate incident (an avoidable maternal/neonatal mortality case, as details later revealed) is linked to the absence of the doctor on duty. Barely a fortnight earlier, similar circumstances occurred at General Hospital, Etinan. In both cases, government-employed doctors were said to have been absent at their duty posts at critical moments when their presence would have prevented the loss of life and saved families from agonising experiences. Those deaths were avoidable, as authorities vested with the facts opine. When consultants, in whose care patients are entrusted, are absent, patients in critical condition are left unattended, and lives are lost. Preliminary investigative reports from the Ministry of Health reveal that one of the doctors found wanting, Dr. George Bassey, allegedly took up a full-time appointment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, without being formally disengaged by the Akwa Ibom State Hospitals Management Board thereby abandoning his duty post and the patients desperately in need of his expertise. His colleague, Dr. UduakAbasi Ita, a Consultant Radiologist, is facing a similar case. Further checks reveal that George Bassey, a Consultant Haematologist, is a beneficiary of the in-service training policy of the State Government. While undergoing the postgraduate training, his full salaries and entitlements were paid consistently by the Akwa Ibom State Government throughout the eight years it lasted, translating to sponsorship by the State Government in line with Public Service Rules, which also require such persons, upon completion of studies, to return to the service of the state at least for the duration of the years spent on such sponsored training. While others had no problems complying with this, Dr. Bassey’s case turned out to be different, as the first sign of his noncompliance was repeated complaints of his alleged truancy and absenteeism from his Medical Superintendent. Despite the Health Commissioner’s intervention in June 2025 by providing specialised equipment such as an Olympus Microscope and a Haematology Analyser which were requested by Dr. Bassey, even when a functional microscope was already in place, the Consultant Haematologist still did not budge. His further complaints of Medical Laboratory Scientists preventing him from working, as well as salary delays, were found to be false and, added to other shortcomings of his, culminated in the issuance of a query to him. But instead of a reply, he tendered a resignation letter, which was not accepted. After that, Dr. George Bassey, the state-sponsored in-service trainee and Consultant Haematologist, became unreachable and incommunicado. However, he resurfaced days ago after being publicly called out for dereliction of duty by the Hon. Commissioner for Health. In a video posted on Facebook, despite acknowledging that he continued receiving salaries while outside the state on training, Dr. Bassey stated that he owes the Akwa Ibom State Government nothing thereby contradicting himself and exhibiting bold ignorance of Public Service Rules. Absenteeism on the part of medical doctors in public service, and other acts anti-ethical to the Hippocratic Oath, are not just breaches of the Public Service Rules but threaten the integrity of the medical profession and the safety of patients. It is on this premise that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, in line with broader health sector reforms of the Umo Eno administration under the ARISE Agenda, has embarked on a mission of restoring discipline in medical practice to prevent further avoidable loss of lives in Akwa Ibom State. When discipline is enforced, trust will be restored. This is important because, in the medical system where a patient’s survival depends on whether a doctor shows up or not, trust is vital. Some facts which have come to light have raised troubling questions about the culture of divided loyalties in the health sector. While doctors seek additional jobs, patients, especially pregnant women and infants, bear the brunt of their absence and sadly have to pay with their lives in extreme cases, such as those of Etinan and Ikot Ekpene. As the state intensifies its disciplinary measures, the unanswered question remains: How many more lives must be lost before absenteeism by medical personnel is fully stamped out?

GOVERNOR ENO LAUNCHES A’IBOM SECURITY TRUST FUND …promises to make state Nigeria’s vacation destination Security, the world over, has been described as a shared responsibility between governments, corporations, individuals, and agencies. With the launch of the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund, the private sector will be further encouraged to join in maintaining the State’s status as a safe, secure, peaceful, inviting, and serene place to live and thrive. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, stated this at the official launch of the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund (AKSTF) at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo. He said his administration has devoted resources to sustaining peace in the State and appreciated the security agencies for their support and cooperation in maintaining security. With the huge outflow of Nigerian tourists, he said Akwa Ibom is being transformed into the best vacation destination in Nigeria. For Governor Eno, security is the first order or primary responsibility of government; but drawing a cue from the social contract principle of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, he spoke eloquently about shared responsibility on the part of government and the governed. Governor Eno said his administration is “launching the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund — a public/private partnership vehicle to put all hands on deck to ensure we continue to live in a safe and secure environment so the people may pursue their legitimate undertakings.” Governor Eno, who acknowledged the status of the State as one of the safest in the country, paid glowing tribute to its “past leaders for their single-minded devotion to this important ideal, of which we are now dedicating ourselves to expanding and deepening.” He recounted that “we have devoted resources to ensuring that we maintain our status as a safe, secure, and peaceful state.” This, he said, led him to create the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways and the Ibom Community Watch — a grassroots initiative aimed at intelligence gathering and sharing with institutional security agencies. He expressed the “gratitude of the Government and the people of Akwa Ibom State to the various security agencies for the robust collaboration and cooperation we have received from them. “That we are celebrated for being one of the safest states in the nation is because of the patriotic and passionate work they have done in partnering with government to ensure that criminals don’t have a safe haven here in our dear state.” He expressed the hope that the request of the State for an Army formation along the maritime corridor in Oron, which was recently made to the Chief of Army Staff, will be granted. While thanking the former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba (Rtd.), CFR, for accepting to chair the occasion and for his glowing tributes, he also appreciated the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who, despite being out of the country on official assignment, sent a message of goodwill. The Chairman of the occasion, Usman Alkali, a former Inspector General of Police, eulogized the Governor for his humility and passion in tackling security concerns in the State. Alkali, who coined the concept of “Umo-Enoism” from the Governor’s name, said Pastor Eno was a gift of good governance to the people. He said the model of security management in Akwa Ibom gives citizens a responsibility to contribute to the security of the State, even though government has the primary duty of maintaining law and order. He, however, called for transparency and efficiency in the management of the funds realized and expressed confidence in the quality of members on the board of the Trust Fund. Also speaking, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (Rtd.), said Akwa Ibom State has the longest Nigerian coastline of 129km, which is 13 percent of the country’s coastline, and is also bordered by Imo and Cross River States, making it susceptible to the activities of sea criminals. Gen. Essien said the intention of government is to ensure a reorganization of the response team in the State. He said the Fund will enable the acquisition of the latest technology in security and listed pickup trucks, squad cars, communication gadgets, surveillance devices, more rigid gunboats, specialized trainings, and the Safe City initiative as major requirements earmarked for security operations in the State. Speaking also, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, through the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, described the event as a proactive and visionary step to strengthen the security architecture. He described the Fund as an opportunity for every citizen to play a role in security management and pledged the support of the Police in ensuring that the State retains its status as one of the most peaceful in the country. Earlier, the Chairman of the Trust Fund, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, said the need to use a public/private partnership approach in solving security challenges in the State necessitated the launch of the Trust Fund. Since insecurity in one locality has adverse effects on others, Paul Usoro maintained that the Governor is making efforts to ensure that the security already enjoyed in the State is sustained. He added that the Trust Fund will support government’s investment in security, since security is an expensive business, and assured that a proper private business management approach will be adopted in managing the fund. The event, which had as its theme “Partnership for a Safer Akwa Ibom”, was also attended by the Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi; Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly; Senators Udoma Udoma, Ekong Sampson, and Aniekan Bassey; as well as captains of industry and major players in Corporate Nigeria.

GOV ENO EXTOLS AKWA IBOM STARS IN DIASPORA …says MoU with REA fitting prelude to proposed State Power Summit Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has expressed delight over the exploits of Akwa Ibom indigenes in their different fields of endeavour across the world. Governor Eno registered his delight while interacting with Government House correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport upon his return from the United Kingdom, where he met with British-based boxer of Akwa Ibom heritage, Moses Itauma, and Mayor of Islington, Jason Utitofon. Governor Eno stated that in the course of his trip, he met with the two illustrious sons of the State and expressed the good wishes of Akwa Ibom people on their spectacular exploits. He described them as role models whose successes are worthy of emulation by other Akwa Ibom youths. The Governor encouraged Akwa Ibom youths to imbibe the true Akwa Ibom spirit and to desist from harboring a sense of entitlement, but to uphold the virtues of hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and commitment in their pursuit of excellence. “We have said it and it has become our practice that wherever we find an Akwa Ibomite who has excelled in his or her chosen field, we would celebrate and support them. “Part of my visit to the UK was to meet with Moses Itauma, the boxing champion, and to also meet with the Mayor of Islington, Utitofon Jackson, who is also our son from Ika Local Government Area. “These two have done well, they have excelled. This is the second time we are having a Mayor of Akwa Ibom extraction, the first being Mayor Ukeme Awakessien-Jeter of Upper Arlington, Ohio, in the USA, and this one is in the UK. “You know there is no godfather in these things, you have to be the best. So we needed to take the good wishes of Akwa Ibomites to them and encourage them,” he said. In a related development, the Governor also explained that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) he earlier signed with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) regarding the State’s rural electrification project would guarantee 24-hour power supply in the State. Governor Eno signed the MoU during the Rural Electrification Roundtable organized by REA, which he attended in FCT, Abuja, shortly after his arrival from the UK. He added that the State Electricity Power Summit, scheduled for September 18 and 19, to be held in collaboration with the REA, would bring power to the unserved and underserved communities that are not linked to the national grid. “It buttresses the fact that we must give Akwa Ibomites a 24/7 reliable power supply. As you are aware, we have our Electricity Power Summit on the 18th and 19th of this month; this is a prelude. “We are working with the Rural Electrification Agency that has funding to bring power to the underserved and unserved communities in Akwa Ibom State that cannot be linked to the national grid,” he explained. Gov. Eno Restates Commitment to Free, Inclusive Education at UBEC/UNICEF Enrollment Drive Flag-off in Uyo Akwa Ibom State governor, Pst. Umo Bassey Eno (PhD), has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure that no child in the State is left out of school, declaring that “neither the circumstance of one’s birth nor economic status should foreclose a child’s legitimate right to quality education”. Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, during the flag-off of the 2025/2026 South-South Regional Enrollment Drive and Campaign to Reduce Out-of-School Children (OOSC), held on Thursday, 4th September, 2025, at Christ the King Model Primary School, Uyo, the Governor described education as a life-changing tool capable of lifting children out of poverty and securing the state’s future. Governor Eno was full of praises to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative and commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for their collaboration in tackling the menace of out-of-school children, describing the effort as critical to Nigeria’s growth and to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (inclusive and equitable quality education for all). “Here in Akwa Ibom State, we have intentionally approached the issue of out-of-school children holistically. That is why we have sustained the free education policy from primary to secondary level, constructed model schools with modern facilities, provided free books, uniforms and shoes, retrained our teachers, and recruited hundreds of new ones equipped with modern teaching techniques." He further noted that the initiative had boosted school enrollment in the State within two years, highlighting ongoing construction of 31 model schools across all local government areas, with 12 already completed and 19 at various stages of execution, alongside the establishment of world-class model secondary schools across the three senatorial districts in the State. The event, organized by UBEC in collaboration with UNICEF, marked the first regional flag-off of the campaign in the South-South zone. It brought together education stakeholders, traditional leaders, unions, and civil society representatives, all lending their voices to the urgent call for children’s enrollment, retention, and completion of basic education. Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, expressed his excitement for the organizers bringing the initiative to Akwa Ibom State. He thanked them for making the state their destination of choice and promised to push the enrollment drive as part of the strategies towards reducing Out-of-school children in the State. In her goodwill message, Nneka, a representative of UNICEF, reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting governments across Nigeria in ensuring that every child enrolls, remains, completes, and successfully transits within the education system. Additionally, UBEC’s Secretary, Aisha Garba, represented by Barr. Ibrahim Gold, stressed that one of the commission’s statutory responsibilities under the UBE Act 2024 is to ensure that all categories of children, regardless of socio-economic status, are given access to quality education. She explained that UBEC and UNICEF had jointly developed a Framework of Action on Out-of-School Children, serving as a roadmap for innovative enrollment campaigns, best practices, and state-led interventions. Other stakeholders in their separate goodwill messages during the event, raised concerns and made appeals. Amongst them, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) chairman, applauded the campaign but called for more recruitment of teachers alongside enrollment efforts. National Committee of School-Based Management chairman, urged state governments to deepen investments in education. Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board Chairperson, Ekaette Okon, charged teachers to take personal responsibility for molding children. Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Technical School Board, Godwin Udom, pointed to poverty, culture, and environment as major drivers of out-of-school children, noting that the state government was tackling these issues. Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, appealed to the Federal Government to pay special attention to rural schools and urged teachers to instill discipline, warning that poorly trained children could become societal menaces. National Child Literacy Coordinator, emphasized the need to curb loitering and hawking during school hours while advocating for functional vocational centers. The Paramount Ruler of Uyo, represented by the Village Head of Uyo, encouraged traditional leaders to sensitize communities through town criers and called for the reintroduction of school feeding to boost enrollment UBEC Member, Mallam Adamu, expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for building model schools across local governments, while stressing that enrollment drives were only a means to the greater end of achieving quality education for all. Highpoint of the event was the distribution of free school uniforms, bags, and books to newly enrolled pupils as part of efforts to encourage enrollment and retention, and a strong directive that no school in Akwa Ibom should collect money from children registering for admission. Any Head Teacher found culpable, officials warned, would be sanctioned and demoted back to classroom teaching. With over 20 million out-of-school children nationwide, the UBEC/UNICEF initiative launched in Uyo for the South-South, aims to drastically reduce the numbers by combining Federal policy with State-led innovations and community-driven advocacy.

SSDC SEEKS ROBUST PARTNERSHIP WITH NIGERIA POLICE TO BOLSTER REGIONAL SECURITY, ECONOMIC GROWTH The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) Wednesday, formalized a strategic alliance with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security and enable sustainable economic development across the region. The partnership was forged during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director of the Commission, Ms Usoro Akpabio, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The visit, aimed at fostering a strategic alliance, focused on securing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to provide a secure and enabling environment for the Commission to execute its mandate of driving economic growth across the South-South region. Addressing the IGP, Ms Akpabio began with opening remarks, expressing deep appreciation for the IGP’s visionary leadership and ongoing reforms, which have significantly strengthened law enforcement and public safety across the country. She recognized the Nigeria Police Force as a critical partner in ensuring regional development, stability, and peacekeeping, and expressed the SSDC’s full commitment to fostering strong inter-agency collaboration. Ms Akpabio stated that the SSDC is saddled with the cardinal responsibility of catalyzing regional economic development across all sectors. She emphasized the strategic importance of the South-South region as the nation's oil and gas hub, host to deep seaports, international trade routes, and border communities. She acknowledged existing security challenges such as pipeline vandalism, illegal bunkering, communal conflicts, militancy, piracy, cultism, and electoral violence, stressing that effective law enforcement is a fundamental prerequisite for achieving the Commission's goals. “We are saddled with the responsibility of regional economic development across all sectors. Law enforcement is a priority to us. We need your robust policing support to ensure the smooth execution of our development programmes. We need to have a robust working relationship, not just for the commission but for the good people of the south south," she stated. Highlighting the SSDC’s focus on using economic empowerment, youth engagement, and community development as tools for reducing the drivers of insecurity, she requested police support in community policing initiatives, establishing early warning systems, and enhancing intelligence sharing. She also proposed joint efforts in peacebuilding campaigns to reduce communal tensions and foster lasting coexistence. On specific collaborations, the MD suggested setting up a dedicated SSDC–NPF Liaison Desk or Committee to seamlessly coordinate security issues, intelligence, and joint programmes. She also sought collaboration in training and reorienting the youth on lawfulness, patriotism, and responsible citizenship, as well as partnerships in civic education campaigns on peace, security awareness, and anti-crime advocacy. In a show of holistic support, Ms. Akpabio mentioned the SSDC's commitment to supporting the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in the region through various initiatives, noting that "a happy wife and home makes a happy officer, which in turn contributes to a happier and safer region." In his response, IGP Egbetokun pledged the full support of the Nigeria Police Force to the Commission's development agenda. He outlined key areas for collaboration, including the protection of national assets, lives, and properties, deepening the community policing framework, public orientation, and enforcing robust cybercrime prevention measures, including evaluations of data systems. The IGP also welcomed the SSDC's offer of support in addressing infrastructural deficits, such as initiatives to light up police vicinities and improve the working and living conditions of officers. "The Nigeria Police Force recognizes the critical link between security and development. We are committed to providing necessary security support to ensure the SSDC successfully delivers on its mandate for the people of the South-South region," the IGP stated. GOV ENO’S ADVISER FAULTS GUIDE NEWSPAPER’S FALSE RESIGNATION REPORT The Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Oil and Gas, Mrs Rose Eshiet has frowned at the new wave of spurious media campaigns against the Governor of the State. Mrs Eshiet has specifically warned the Publisher of a local tabloid, Emmanuel Sam to desist from the ignoble act of spewing fake allegations with the aim of undermining the noble strides of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno. An Akwa Ibom based tabloid, The Guide Newspaper came up with a cover story, alleging that Mrs Eshiet and some others in the employ of the Government had thrown in the towel citing sundry reasons. But in a swift reaction, Mrs Eshiet warned the purveyors of the fake news medium to exercise restraint and retrace their steps from such ignoble adventures. “My attention has been drawn to a publication on an Akwa Ibom based newspaper that I Mrs Rose Eshiet, have resigned my appointment as Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil and Gas. “This is no more than mischief taken too far against me by the purveyors”, she cried out. “The Governor is doing a good job in our State and let’s all join hands together to support him.” Mr Emmanuel Sam, publisher of The Guide Newspaper, was one of the Governor’s media aides in the immediate past dispensation. He is said to have abandoned his duty post as Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Media, to go and join the campaign train of Mr Akan Okon, who lost to the eventual winner, Governor Umo Eno in the party primaries. Speculations abound that his series of media attacks against the Governor may not be unrelated to his inability to gain a re-appointment as media aide. “A source close to the Hilltop Mansion told our reporter that Governor Eno usually considers character and competence before appointing people for various roles in his government. “I don’t think our Governor who craves for results, will yield to his pressure by rewarding him with an appointment”, the source told our reporter.

Governor Eno’s Transparency Accounts for Successful Empowerment Schemes – Dr. Ndueso The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, has revealed that the process of getting empowerment from the government is strictly through registration and validation on the State portal. He has emphasized that while the National Identity Number (NIN) is one of the crucial means of verifying one's nationality on the portal the Voters Identification Number (VIN) authenticates a person as a resident in the State. Dr Ndueso who spoke during a media interview in Uyo said, "no matter how hardworking, deserving, and enterprising one may be, he can never be entitled to Governor Umo Eno's empowerment unless he registers through the ARISE portal." According to the Governor's Aide, following the right process will ensure that only genuine indigenes and residents benefit from the schemes. He further stressed that Gov. Eno has the good of the people at heart and he is driven by compassionate leadership style to ensure that their needs are met through his townsquare meetings and empowerment series across the ten Federal Constituencies in the State. “The people remain the focus of Gov Umo Eno's leadership, so he decided to go round, feel the pulse, and hear from them straight without third party." Dr. Ndueso, also, explained that the purpose of these grants is to help small-scale businesses expand, which will in turn, boost the state’s economy. He commended the Governor for his hard work and commitment to human capital development, noting that “throwing money on the streets has never led to anything, but this governor is concerned with capacity enhancement.” Furthermore, Dr. Ndueso emphasized that Governor Umo Eno does not engage in frivolous handouts, but instead invests in individuals and small businesses to create sustainable growth, citing several skill acquisition programs in the state, including the Ibom Mentorship Development Program anchored in the old E-library building and Dakkada Skills Acquisition Program at Ikot Ada Idem, saying: “The kind of business training you have in Lagos and outside the country, that is what we have here in Akwa Ibom." Beyond youth and women empowerment, Dr. Essien also highlighted the governor’s unwavering commitment to rural development, road completion, and flood evacuation projects, stressing that the governor ensures balanced development across the state. He added that there is no sentiment in project distribution, pointing to the governor’s Project Monitoring Team, which goes out weekly to inspect ongoing projects, ensuring that timelines and quality standards are met. He further addressed the blaspheming content about the Governor by Professor Offiong Aqua, which in his words sells the state in a bad light. Dr. Essien Ndueso described his content as misleading and damaging to the state’s image, which may propagate wrong ideology to others regarding a state in progress.

GOV ENO CONCLUDES TWO DAYS INTENSIVE PROJECTS INSPECTION ... excited at large number of youths engaged at project sites Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has concluded a two - day intensive projects inspection across the State, expressing delight at the large number of people, especially youths, engaged at the different projects sites. Fielding questions from Government House correspondents at the ARISE Resort, the last point of the inspection exercise, he said the on-site projects delivery meeting was motivated by a management philosophy referred to as Management By Walking Around (MBWA), and the need for an on - the - spot - assessment of the projects. "You must be able to physically see your projects or the things you are supervising. We have visited 23 project sites in two days, and we have not even reached half, but the truth is, this gives us an on the spot idea. The Commissioners, Contractors and every Delivery Advisor have an on the spot view, an assessment of the projects," he said. The Governor said the visit also afforded the team an opportunity to make lots of input and inject new ideas to ensure that the projects meet the desired need of the people. He commended Akwa Ibom youths for their active involvement at the different projects sites. He called on other youths to shun every sense of entitlement and get involved for their individual good and that of the State at large. "In all the sites we have visited, what interests me so much, as you saw by yourself, is the number of young people that these projects have engaged. "Everywhere we went to, we were received by crowds of young men and women working on site, be it the engineers, skilled workers or unskilled ones. In fact, there is a site where we have female Civil Engineers as Managing Directors of their respective organizations. It gives me that joy that we are bringing out our youths, and I feel happy. "We thank God, and what I can say to our young people is to leave every sense of entitlement. Government will not bring money to anybody at home. But for every young man and woman who is ready to work, Akwa Ibom State today, provides that opportunity for our young people, craftsmen, skilled men and skilled women to work. All of the 23 projects we have been to, you have seen it yourselves," he added. While encouraging young people who are yet to take advantage of the numerous opportunities, he said, "Money moves and gets into the hands of people that think and work with their hands. I am certain that we will continue to make progress in the Arise Agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope .So we must continue to work for our people. "Look at the Okobo road, for 16 years, that project could not be completed. Five Contractors have changed hands, but today, we are just two months away from full completion. What then would you say? I met a female project Engineer at that site. So even our young ladies and men, we need to see, and use the opportunity that God has given to us," the Governor said. He noted that the State under his leadership will continue to serve the general interest of the people, rather than the interest of a few. According to him, "These projects are my rewards to Akwa Ibom people. That's what they campaign for - good governance, and transparency, that's what they campaigned for. 354, 000 people voted for me, to provide good leadership which is what we are doing. "We are providing the enabling environment, we are giving contracts, the Aviation village, the Medical City, the Judiciary Quarters, the Legislative and Executive Quarters. Between all of those projects, we have almost done 400 Housing Units, who will construct them? Go to the Judiciary Quarters and see our young people building. So they have work to do. "This kind of thing gives me joy, and particularly, for those kinds of people who really want to work. So, I am happy for the two days; stressful no doubt, but am I happy?" he said. Some of the projects sites visited included; Arise Senior Citizens Center at Ikono/Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, CNG Bus Terminal at Odiok Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Flood Control project at Itu Local Government Area, Road Construction project at Uyo Village road, Uyo Local Government Area, Judiciary Officers Quarters at Ring Road III, International Convention Center and Arise Shopping City. Also in the list were Ibom Model Farm, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Agricultural Equipment Leasing Facility at Ekpri Nsukara, Uyo, International Terminal, Airport Clinic, Aviation Village and other projects at the Victor Attah International Airport, Nsit Atai - Okobo Road, and Executive/Legislative Quarters at the Dakadda Luxury Estate, Command and Control Center, and the ARISE Resort.
