BEING THE TEXT OF THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, Ph.D., GOVERNMENT HOUSE, MAY 29, 2026

Promises Made and Promises Fulfilled, Onward to Arise 2.0

My dear Akwa Ibomites,

1. I come to you today, with a heart filled with gratitude, first to the Almighty God, who is the Author and the Finisher of our faith, and you, my dear people, for the prayers, support and faith you have so generously shown in our capacity to move further the needle of development of this great State, aptly named after the Almighty God Himself. In three years, together and collectively, we have achieved a lot, in line with the promises I made during the 2023 campaigns, elements of which I had equally condensed and distilled in my Inaugural Speech on May 29, 2023. What a surprise that we have come three years full circle.

2. We couldn’t have achieved all these, without the love you have shown, without the prayers you have said, without the faith you have invested, and without the peace, unity and deep spirit of kindredship you have so selflessly displayed. I thank and celebrate you!

3. Today, we celebrate the emerging story of our dear State, whose chapters of growth and exceptionalism are not only read and experienced by you, but also ring in the hearts, minds and lips of Nigerians across the geo-political zones.

4. From a once rusty backwater subnational, we are fast becoming a destination of choice, a shining City on the Hill, steady, illuminating, firm, inviting, hopeful and poised to fulfil the dreams of our founding fathers as a true Land of Promise.

5. Let me thank our past leaders for the great work they did, which today we are determined to deepen and expand the rings and layers of our growth and shared prosperity.

6. To the stakeholders, women, elders, students, youths, the clergy, civil society organizations, members of the fourth estate of the realm, and indeed the civil servants of our dear State, thank you for being key partners in this Golden Age of our dear State that is rising and expanding.

7. let me thank the Chairman of our great Party APC, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo for the ebullient manner he is managing the affairs of the party. In the last one month, we have had a very peaceful primaries all across the State where you overwhelmingly voted to nominate our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR as the APC Candidate for President, our son Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio GCON as the APC Candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, and of course, my humble self as the APC GovernorshipCandidate for Akwa Ibom State  and all other candidates on our slate for next year’s general election.

8. This speech is aptly titled “Promises Made and Promises Fulfilled, Onward to Arise 2.0”. But let me pause here and declare that those promises we had made would not have been so successfully and so impactfully fulfilled without the support and encouragement of our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose bold and audacious reforms have put more funds in the hands of subnationals to execute equally audacious projects, and of course the Senate President, our son, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, for the collaboration we have forged, all for our State’s enlightened  interest.

9. On May 29, 2023, when I stood before you and gave my Inaugural Speech, I had made clear and concrete promises anchord around the Arise Agenda, our developmental blueprint. Today, I make bold to state unequivocally, that we have ticked all the boxes and are rearing to do even more when, by the Grace of God, you return me for another four-year tour of duty next year.

10. Time will fail me if I were to stand here to enumerate all that we have achieved across sectors for the collective good of our State and people. However, tomorrow in the full glare of the World Press, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah will moderate the Inter-Ministerial press briefing for the people to engage directly with the drivers of our vision, the members of the State Executive Council.

11. But it bears repeating that we have done so much in the agricultural sector, where just yesterday, we launched the Oil Palm Tree Crop Revolution, an initiative that will restore our place as a leading producer of oil palm in the nation.

We recently launched the Agricultural Equipment Leasing Company which will make equipment available to farmers at highly subsidised rates. We have also given farm implements, seedlings as well as the 2b Naira of grants to farmers. Ibom Model Farm and other farms undertaken by Local Government Chairmen are ongoing. These are aimed at reducing the prices of our stable food items.

12. We have opened up the rural areas with roads, wet markets, model healthcare centres as well as model primary schools. There is no local government today, that has not benefited from a completed project or has ongoing ones. Recently, we approved N7.3 Billion at N20m for each of the 369 Wards in rural areas to form Women Cooperatives and, working with GIFA, each of 369 ward’s will have solar-powered Braithwaite tank borehole. We are determined to open up the rural areas for the free-flow of goods and services.

13. In the area of infrastructure, we have commissioned, or  have ongoing 1,300km of economically viable roads with 40 bridges. The details of these critical roads will be provided tomorrow during the briefing.

14. In the education sector, we have continued to fund free and compulsory education for our primary and secondary school pupils and students. We are paying bursaries to those in tertiary institutions as well as the payment of grants to our State-owned institutions. Akwa Ibom College of Education, Afaha Nsit is now fullyupgraded to a University of Education. The House of the Assembly recently passed a bill to that effect. In the next few weeks we will constitute the Governing Board of the University.

15. We have built and commissioned Model Primary Schools, which are solar powered, with computer labs and befitting teachers quarters. We have equally recruited 1,000 teachers and recently approved additional 1,000 teachers to be recruited soon. We would be establishing 3 Model Secondary Schools with State-of the -art facilities in each of the three senatorial district, the first of such school is currently under construction in Uyo Senatorial District.

16. In the healthcare sector, we have commissioned or have ongoing work on primary healthcare centres across all the 31 local government areas; recruited 2,854 medical personnel for the sector; enrolled over 200,000 persons into our Medical Insurance policy; commenced work on our 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, complete with 24 departments. Details of other achievements recorded in this critical sector will be presented tomorrow by the Honourable Commissioner for Health.

17. We are priming our State as the tourism hub of our region and indeed Nigeria. Later this evening, we will hold our Variety Night to mark our Third Anniversary in office at our soon-to-be commissioned Arise Palm Resort, a project that will bring immense joy and pride to our people and spur economic growth. The night would be likened to the song “Blessed Assurance, what a foretaste of glory divine.” The glory of our State will continue to be divinely spelt when the Park is opened.

18. Other tourism assets such as the International Convention Centre, the Ibom Hotels, the Arise Shopping City Centre, among others, will be presented with concrete details tourism.

19. From aviation development where we recently made our maiden international flight from our new terminal to Accra, Ghana, and the  2CRJ900 Bombadier aircraft we had bought and paid outright for  Ibom Air and an Airbus A220-300 Series aircraft soon to be added to the Ibom Air fleet later in the year; Ibom Air is working on commencing International Flights and this is a thing of joy for our State. From Aviation Village, to the World-Class hospital within the airport, to the MRO, the Taxi way, perimeter fencing etc, we have done so much in the sector, details again would be disclosed tomorrow during the briefing by the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties.

20. In the area of social investments and youth empowerment, when we came in, we met a backlog of N111bn in gratuities and other emoluments since 2012. Today, we have paid over N83 billion of the backlogs and remain firm and committed to liquidating the entire backlog before the end of our first term in office.

21. We have provided over N6 billion as business grants to our youths and farmers and several other empowerment schemes during our last Town Square Meetings. Thousands of our youths have been trained at both Ibom-LED and at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) with N750,000 start-up packs added to them.

22. Three days ago, we launched our Youth Development Centre in Oron LGA. This would be replicated all over the 31 local government areas. The Centre is to help train our youths in e-commerce, creatives, fashion design, thus creating social mobility in line with what is happening in countries such as India and China.

23. In the power sector, we have taken steps to ensure we provide stable electricity to our people in the very near future. We have also worked on the off grid power supply to our unserved rural communities. On the Ibom Deep Seaport the Federal Government recently approved certifications and compliance processes as one of the five to be so approved. Let me take the opportunity to thank the President for this kind approval. We will pursue the actualization of the Ibom Deep Seaport by the Grace of God and with your support. In the housing sector, we have built over a thousand and forty eight houses in clusters. From the compassionate homes where we have done 438 homes, from the medical village, to the aviation village, to the judiciary village, to the legislative village; all of these put together will provide housing to our people. In sports development, an academy is being primed in Eket to discover and train young talents. Work is currently ongoing on what many have described as the best bus terminal in these parts once completed. With initial 50 CNG buses due to arrive in the State in the month of June, to significant improvements in our IGR through TSA, we are building a future of growth and expansion for our dear State.

24. We have achieved the above, and in the next five years, with your support and by the Grace of God, we will work to complete the 85 other audacious projects that will change the landscape of development across sectors in our State. This is the vision of our Arise 2.0 which will be our blueprint for our campaigns and our document of execution for the 2027 to 2031 administration. We will in that document capture all of the needs that you so articulated and submitted during our Federal Constituency tours across the length and breadth of our State. We will take into consideration, the things that you so desire that we bring into governance, and we guarantee that it will form our step by step blueprint just as the Arise 1.0 captured.

25. As the political season commences, I urge our people to play politics of ideas and not one of name-calling or character assassination. We have kept the peace in our State because no single life is worth shedding for anyone’s political ambition.

26. Politics, as I said in my inaugural address, will come and go but the spirit and bond of our brotherhood will remain unbroken by the temporary passion of partisan politics. Let us imbibe the spirit of genuine sportsmanship in the game of politics.

27. I had promised you that I will be the Governor for all Akwaibomites and so far, I have by the Grace of God kept my word on that score. Today, our political slogan is Akwa Ibom United and as we go to the polls next year, we will remain united, secure in our belief that an injury to one is an injury to all. I came as a peacemaker and I will leave, by the Grace of God leave office in 2031, as a peacemaker. I will continue to pastor Akwa Ibom State with the fear of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. So help me God!

28. Happy Third Anniversary to us all. God bless Akwa Ibom State, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

CELEBRATIONS AS GOV ENO EMERGES WINNER OF A’IBOM APC GUBER PRIMARY WITH 392,653 VOTES

… receives certificate of return, names Sen. Eyakenyi running mate

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in 2027.

After the State APC governorship primary held at ward centres across the State on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Governor was declared winner with a total of 392,653 votes by the Chairman of the State APC Primary Elections Committee, Hon. Nwofe Alexander.

Hon. Nwofe, who was flanked by members of the committee, presented a certificate of return to the Governor at a victory party in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, and acknowledged that the exercise was generally peaceful across the State.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Eno pledged continuous dedication to the service of the State, adding that the support by party faithful was an overwhelming vote of confidence in him and a call to do more.

He said the ARISE Agenda will be assessed for gaps, updated, and reloaded for greater service.

“You have nominated me to continue the expansion of our growth and development, which in three years has been nationally acknowledged.

“We will continue to work to make our staple foods available through investments in agriculture and agro-allied enterprises. From the oil palm tree crop revolution, soon to be launched, to the agricultural equipment leasing company recently launched, the farming seedlings initiative, among others, we will ensure our staple foods are available at prices our people can afford.

“We remain dedicated to the completion of all projects in the 31 local government areas, spanning healthcare and education, as well as our ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative,” he said.

Governor Eno enumerated some of the milestones of his administration, with specific mention of the ARISE Palm Resort, which he said, when commissioned, will bring the world to the State and stimulate economic growth.

The Governor noted that within three years, his administration has constructed or deployed the finishers’ anointing in completing 1,300km of roads and 40 bridges, built 31 primary healthcare centres, some of which have been commissioned while work is ongoing on others alongside model primary schools, and paid over N82 billion out of the N111 billion inherited from past administrations dating back to 2012.

He expressed hope of completing the payment before the end of his first term in 2027.

Governor Eno said the State remains an oasis of peace, while the investments in aviation and the recent inaugural international flight from the Victor Attah International Airport to Accra, Ghana, have positioned the State as the tourism hub of the region.

He said the State is rising to a golden age and, in the next five years, will move the needle even higher for the collective good.

The Governor announced that his Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, will remain his running mate in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

The visibly elated flag-bearer of the party appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his fatherly role, especially since the Progressive Movement in June 2025, and for enabling states’ development by making funds available.

He appreciated the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, for the partnership, the State Chairman of the party, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, and members of the Primary Elections Committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, his family, as well as party faithful, for their overwhelming support.

The Governor urged everyone to continue in the same spirit on Saturday, May 23, by voting to nominate President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

He called on other political parties in the State and beyond to emulate the APC which, he said, has conducted free, fair, and transparent primaries worthy of emulation, and urged those who will emerge as candidates of other political parties to avoid campaigns of calumny but focus on issues so as not to heat up the polity.

In their separate remarks, the State Chairman of the APC, Obong Ntukekpo; National Assembly members led by Senator Ekong Sampson and Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem; Political Leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob; wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Mrs. Ekperikpe Ekpo; State House of Assembly members led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; ALGON led by its Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo; Nsit Ubium Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Alfred Charles; former Secretary to the State Government, Obong Umanah Okon Umanah; Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ita Enang; Obong Bassey Albert; and Director General of Campaign, Chief Assam Assam, SAN, commended the Governor for maintaining peace in the State and for the development strides across the State.

They noted that the overwhelming nomination of the Governor for a second term was based on his performance and the need to complete the lofty projects across the State.

Successful Nomination as Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Candidate:

A Note of Appreciation

Yesterday, throughout the 369 wards in the State, you turned out organically and massively voted for continuity, peace, unity, growth, and the need for us to ARISE to a Renewed Hope.

You overwhelmingly voted to nominate me as the All Progressives Congress’ Candidate for Governor in the 2027 elections, so we may finish the work we collectively started on May 29, 2023.

Let me use this opportunity again to thank you, my dear people of Akwa Ibom State, for the faith, belief, and trust you have reposed in me to collectively expand the enchanting chapters of the Akwa Ibom story of growth, development, unity and peaceful coexistence.

To our great party, led by the ebullient Stephen Ntukekpo, to our stakeholders, elders, women, youths, students, political groups, civil society organizations, the clergy, and traditional institutions, I say thank you for your support and prayers.

Let me, at this time, thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the fatherly role he has played since we made the Progressive Movement last June to align our State with the Centre. His support has been wonderful and deeply appreciated.

To our son and the Number Three Citizen of Nigeria, the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, I say thank you for the great partnership we have forged to work for peace, unity, and the expansion of our State’s enlightened interest.

To the State Chairman of the APC Primaries Election Committee, Hon. Nwofe Alexander and his team, as well as the Local Primaries Planning Committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, thank you for the great and transparent work you are doing to advance the cause of democracy and good governance.

As I said last night in my acceptance speech, I urge our political class to play politics based on ideas and issues, and not one aimed at heating up the polity, as government is ever ready to ensure the maintenance of law and order.

Thank you again for blessing me with this great moment. I do not take it for granted, and I promise you that I will continue to give my all, fully assured of your support, prayers, and love. So help me God!

Henshaw NYONG, Uyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State is set to conduct its House of Assembly primary elections today across the 329 ward centres in the state, as the party continues an internal electoral process many members have described as peaceful, transparent and orderly.

A notice released by the state chapter of the party and signed by the Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, announced that the exercise will hold simultaneously today at Noon, with party leaders, officers, aspirants and members expected to participate at their respective ward centres.

Meanwhile, today’s exercise follows the successful conduct of the House of Representatives primaries held on Saturday and the Senatorial District primaries conducted on Monday, both of which recorded smooth proceedings in all parts of the state.

Within the party, many stakeholders have continued to commend the atmosphere surrounding the primaries, noting that the process has remained largely free of rancour since commencement, with the leadership disposition of Governor Umo Eno widely credited for the calm and unity currently prevailing in the party.

Party faithful across the state have expressed optimism that the House of Assembly primaries will consolidate the peaceful momentum already established, as the APC intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

UMO ENO: ALWAYS RIGHT WHEN IT MATTERS

By Clement Warrie

On Saturday, June 6th, 2026, which is barely a few weeks from today, it will be exactly 365 days since Governor Umo Eno took an all important decision to defect from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The formal announcement ceremony held inside the Banquet Hall of the Government House did not only end months of speculations and anxiety. It redrew Akwa Ibom’s political map almost overnight.

For a state that brands itself as the biblical “land of promise,” the move, with the benefit of hindsight, was less of a defection, and more an entrance into its “land of fulfillment.”

The outcome is undeniable. For the first time in the state’s 37-year history, there is a marked political calm that was unthinkable under the old order. The move has significantly pivoted the state from the politics of rancor, rascality and recklessness to one shaped by consensus and stability.

But the journey toward a new order of peace, stability and prosperity was anything but smooth.

In the weeks and months before June 6th, political climate in Akwa Ibom had thickened into a storm.
The unease was palpable.

On the streets, the PDP family were left prostrate, stunned to silence and yawning over their misfortune. The new political reality had served them the only curved ball in their four decades of historic leadership dominance. The cartel deep within the PDP, the self-glorying power brokers, who tried to block the governor’s emergence took the hardest hit. Even their incantatory media vuvuzelas were numbed into silence.

The APC members on the other hand could hardly believe their luck.
Not long ago, they were locked in a bare-knuckled, pre-election battle with the PDP that was adjudged bitter, scandalous, messy and rancorous. No malignant lie or political subterfuge was spared.

Now that the man was allegedly making preparations to visit them, their first reaction was disbelief, then wariness, and then, a curious hope.

But cynics and skeptics argued strongly that Governor Umo Eno would not abandon the party that brought him to power, on the consideration that his party the PDP was facing an unstable future, much less his political father, Udom Emmanuel, the immediate past governor who stood by him like a rock during his election. To do so, they claim, would be tantamount to biting the finger that fed him.

Idealists and visionaries thought otherwise. They contended that a minority tribe could not afford the constraints of minority politics. To remain there, they argued, was to choose marginality over leverage and development.

The stakes were sky-high.

And if Governor Umo Eno was conflicted, he left no clues. He seemed to understand the choices before him.
The big question was: would he rather continue with his estranged party, the PDP that brought him to power, or follow the counsel of political theorist, Albert O. Hirschman in his book, Exit, Voice and Loyalty, that —“Exit is a legitimate response to organizational decline, particularly when voice has been exhausted?”

As time ticked by, the people bayed at his door, with opinions and entreaties pounding on his roof like relentless rain.

Not since the mysterious defection of now senate president, Godswill Akpabio in 2019 to the APC did the state jerk and weaved this uncomfortably like earthworm stung by salt. Partisan loyalty was tested. Political elites were unsettled, divided and unsure where the ground would shift next.

To break the unease, some had expected the man in the storm to break the vortex, make a speech and dismiss the rumors as a fabrication from the pit of hell, but instead, he doubled down, spoke eloquently about his intentions such that by the time June 6, 2025, arrived, the question was no longer if the defection would happen, but how the fateful speech would be framed.

To fully grasp the rationale behind his seemingly stoic and nonnegotiable motive, one must look beyond the calculus of personal political ambition to a principle that predates modern party politics.

In 46 BC Marcus Tullius Cicero, amidst the fracturing of the Roman Republic, addressed the Senate with a sentiment that has endured. “As for myself, I ask for nothing. Let the Republic live, whatever befalls me.” The appeal was not to faction, but to the enduring good of the Republic.

June 6th, the bigwigs of both PDP and APC, the State Executive Council, aides, and assorted dignitaries gathered in the state’s expansive banquet hall, waiting for his speech. When it came, it arrived with the same cadence and intensity as the speech of Marcus Cicero, it was stately, confident and directed toward a conception of the common good that transcended partisan alignment.

He opened by grounding the historic moment in principle, not partisanship. He spoke about “Opening arms to change, while holding to values,” he quoted Dalai Lama, one of the world’s most admired moral voices.

He told Akwa Ibomites this wasn’t a rejection of the PDP, the platform that brought him to power, but a forward-looking choice for the state’s interest. “What Akwa Ibom people want is good governance, not the name of the party.” He compared staying in a party that could no longer deliver to staying on a faulty aircraft when another plane was ready to take you to your destination.

The decision, he said, came after three months of wide consultation with stakeholders across the state, including PDP leaders the night before. It was about aligning Akwa Ibom with the federal government to unlock projects and investment the state couldn’t afford to miss. “We must be able to interpret the times, flow with them, and not swim against the tide.”

And he made one thing clear to those who chose to stay: “For those who choose to remain in the PDP, we will not antagonize you. In time, I believe all Akwa Ibomites will see the reasons behind this move.”

He has been justified.

History consistently demonstrates that the world rewards those who move first, even if they move without permission. Even if they move without a consensus. Even if they move without a map. Governor Umo Eno’s decision reflects this courage.

Today, the PDP he left behind lies in ruins, completely decimated by infighting and corruption. No longer a viable platform for contesting elections.

Recently, there’s the story of a PDP state chairman in Taraba state, who sold nomination forms to his own party members, but when it came time to contest elections, he opted to run under a different party.

Even Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State and one of the factional leaders in the PDP, is alleged to be eyeing the presidency—not under the PDP, but with another party

There is point to note: The political calm in Akwa Ibom didn’t happen by accident. One man set the tone and brought all political interests under a mantra, known as “Akwa Ibom United”

And the mantra has translated into tangible gains for the state in terms of development and prosperity.

The governor himself has framed the peace in the state as his Administration’s core achievement.

At his second anniversary banquet he said, “For me, the greatest achievement is not in all those things you saw in the documentary. The greatest achievement is the peace that God has brought into this state. That is my greatest achievement”.

SUBEB: GOV ENO RELEASES ₦5.9BN FOR BASIC EDUCATION REFORMS

Following Governor Umo Eno’s approval, a series of strategic reforms aimed at strengthening basic education, including the introduction of a new curriculum, recruitment of additional teachers, and a multi-billion naira infrastructure intervention, is underway in Akwa Ibom State.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, PhD, announced this during a press briefing held at the State SUBEB Headquarters in Uyo.

He revealed that the Governor has approved and released ₦5.9 billion for 2025 and 2026 intervention projects, emphasizing a shift from partial renovations to a more comprehensive approach.

“Intervention will no longer be piecemeal. When we go to a school, we will handle it holistically: classrooms, water, toilets, electricity, and everything required to make the environment suitable for learning,” he explained.

Hon. Etuk, however, expressed concern over rising cases of vandalism and theft of school facilities, calling on host communities to take ownership of government investments.

“Government cannot continue to commit huge resources only for facilities to be vandalised. Communities must take responsibility for protecting what is provided for them,” he warned.

He outlined ongoing efforts by the board to improve teaching standards and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils across public primary and junior secondary schools.

A key highlight of the briefing was the planned rollout of a new curriculum for primary schools, which the Chairman described as a long-overdue development that will significantly enhance the quality of education in the state.

“For many years, this has not happened. With the new curriculum, we will be able to add value to teaching and learning in our schools,” he said.

Addressing the issue of manpower, the SUBEB Chairman disclosed that the state government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional teachers to tackle the shortage currently affecting schools, noting that priority will be given to ICT and computer science graduates in order to strengthen digital education.

“We do not have enough teachers in our schools. Therefore, we appealed to the Governor, and he has graciously approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers. We are paying attention to ICT teachers because we already have computer labs that require qualified personnel,” he stated.

He also highlighted disputes between communities and school authorities over school lands, noting that such conflicts are negatively affecting school administration and student enrollment. He urged community leaders and School Management Committees to support, rather than hinder, the smooth operation of schools.

While appreciating the state government’s commitment to education, the education administrator stressed that strong foundational learning remains critical to overall development.

“If the foundation is not strong, nothing can function properly. That is why we must continue to invest in basic education,” he added.

Also speaking at the briefing, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Nsibiet John, commended Governor Umo Eno for prioritizing education, particularly the approval for teacher recruitment.

“The employment of over 1,000 teachers is a major step forward, especially for schools in rural communities, and will go a long way in strengthening basic education delivery,” he said.

He further called for strengthened Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and urged SUBEB to extend intervention efforts to schools facing infrastructure challenges, including QIC Primary School in Eket Local Government Area.

The SUBEB Chairman reaffirmed the board’s commitment to sustaining reforms, assuring that ongoing initiatives will significantly improve the standard of basic education and provide better learning outcomes for pupils across the state.

Uwem Ekanem Assumes Mgt of Akwa Ibom’s Aviation Ministry

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has appointed Uwem Ekanem as Special Adviser on Aviation and Airport Development, assigning him immediate oversight of the state’s newly created Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development.

The appointment, effective May 4, 2026, comes as the state moves to strengthen its aviation sector and expand airport infrastructure. In a statement signed by Enobong Uwah, the government said Ekanem would lead the ministry pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.

Before his elevation to CEO, he served as Head of Airport Operations (2015–2019), overseeing safety, security, and service delivery at the Victor Attah International Airport.

Earlier, he was Principal Commercial Officer (2009–2015), where he drove revenue growth, managed concessions, and coordinated commercial development for the airport.

He also worked with Virgin Nigeria Airways Ltd as Airport Manager in Calabar (2006–2009), and began his aviation career with Aviation Development Company Plc, where he rose from Traffic and Ticketing Officer to Station Manager between 2003 and 2006.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Uyo, alongside selected professional certifications in aviation management and airport operations.

Industry observers say the appointment signals a push by the state government to consolidate recent gains and position Akwa Ibom as a competitive player in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.

The creation of the new ministry is part of broader efforts to improve efficiency, attract investment, and enhance the state’s capacity to manage growing air traffic and related economic opportunities.

GOV ENO HIGHLIGHTS GAINS OF A’IBOM AIRPORT INT’L OPERATIONS, CREATES AVIATION MINISTRY

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has said the attainment of international status by the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA) will not only benefit Akwa Ibom State, but Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea region.

In a world press briefing upon his return from the maiden international flight to the airport from Accra, Ghana, the Governor said the feat will help stimulate other sectors of the economy.

“We cannot succeed in tourism if we don’t have a functional airport, whether internationally or locally. Now, we have gone international, and through Akwa Ibom, we can travel to other countries in the sub-region without having to go out of Nigeria or overfly Nigeria to get to countries in the sub-region, as obtained before. That is one of the things the international flight has stopped immediately.

“Akwa Ibom will become another Kigali, with the international conference centre that is the best in the country; people will begin to host international conferences in Uyo,” he added.

He expressed hope that the benefits for the Gulf of Guinea will be enormous, adding that the State is also planning to add a cargo terminal and establish a trading route that will further enhance capacity.

Governor Eno announced the creation of a Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development and also appointed the Managing Director of the Ibom Airport Development Company Limited, Engr. Uwem Ekanem, to oversee the affairs of the ministry pending the appointment of a substantive Commissioner.

He appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting approval for the airport’s designation as an international facility and also commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his dedication and strategic support, particularly in coordinating aviation stakeholders and ensuring regulatory compliance leading to the successful take-off of international operations.

Tracing the evolution of the airport, Governor Eno paid glowing tribute to past leaders, Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for their respective contributions to the current status of the airport.

He described leadership as a relay race, with successive administrations building on one another’s efforts to achieve the milestone.

The Governor further announced that Ibom Air is set to expand its fleet to ten aircraft, with the expected arrival of an additional Airbus in June, and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to training indigenous pilots, engineers, and personnel to meet the airport’s specific demands.

He said that so far, the State has sponsored the training of 20 pilots in Paris, including the co-pilot who manned the return flight from Accra; 20 engineers currently working at the airport; another 10 cadet pilots in training in Ethiopia; as well as three pilots and one engineer at the aviation school in Zaria.

The Governor said beyond pilots and engineers, the State is going to train others in airport handling, facility management for cleaning of the airport, and general maintenance.

Governor Eno revealed that no fewer than ten critical projects are being constructed and completed within the aviation ecosystem, including a second runway, apron expansion, aviation village, perimeter fencing, hospital, and modern security surveillance systems.

He clarified that the maiden international flight was not merely ceremonial but a validation and activation of the airport’s international certification, adding that scheduled international operations will commence after the completion of necessary regulatory procedures.

For the sustainability of Ibom Air, Governor Eno said the State is planning diversification, adding that in the nearest future, Ibom Air will be listed on the Stock Exchange Market for privatisation.

He noted that in a few years, when all the dots are connected, with the international conference centre, ARISE Palm Resort, the Mary Slessor House, the Lord Lugard Amalgamation House, the Bridge of No Return, the International Market, and others come alive, the State will be fully ready to receive the world.

Governor Eno expressed appreciation to stakeholders in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government, as well as the broader aviation community, noting that the milestone represents a shared accomplishment and a significant turning point in the State’s history.

In line with the Agricultural Revolution component of his administration's ARISE Agenda, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has commissioned a modern agricultural equipment leasing facility to enhance surplus food production.

Speaking at the commissioning held at the premises of the facility, Ekpri Nsukara, Uyo, the Governor said the facility is primed to help farmers turn agriculture from a peasant undertaking to a mechanized enterprise.

He noted that agriculture is a big business and urged the people not just to see it as a subsistent undertaking but a potentially profitable enterprise.

Governor Eno said the commissioned facility is the first phase of his administration's intervention with equipment leasing, adding that other phases will follow subsequently.

He disclosed that leasing of the equipment will be subsidized by 50 percent, as a way of supporting farmers in the State, and called on farmers to take full advantage of the opportunity to produce enough food for the people.

Governor Eno commended the project engineer, Engr Alorye Ogar, a young lady who, according to him epitomizes the Akwa Ibom spirit of excellence and passion, for her quality delivery of the project.

He noted that Ogar was selected from the ARISE Procurement Portal based on her perceived competence, and urged the youths, especially the female amongst them to emulate her.

The Governor also commended the facility manager, Engr Ifiok Ekott, who, he also said, has shown incredible drive and dedication to interpreting his vision about the facility for the great work he and his teams have done.

He called on local government chairmen to consider hiring the equipment to aid their local farmers cultivate more of their farmlands for improved harvest, food sufficiency and affordability in the State.

Since assuming office, Governor Eno has tackled the challenge of ensuring affordable food for citizens with a range of measures. These include a free food distribution programme, described by him as a temporary relief effort, the designation of every third Friday as a work-free day for civil servants to engage in farming, and the provision of agricultural inputs to farmers.

Dr. Offor highlighted available equipment for leasing at the yard to include 25 tractors and their accompanying implements like planters, harrows, ploughs, ridgers and others.

PoliticsThe Text Of Easter Broadcast, 2026, By His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.d by imMannerPhilipz(op): 6:39am On Apr 05
BEING THE TEXT OF EASTER BROADCAST, 2026, BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, Ph.D, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, UYO

My dear Akwa Ibomites,
1.Today, we join Christian faithful all over the world to celebrate Easter, a sacred event in the Christian calendar which marks the death, the burial and triumphant resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

2.In this season, our faith is renewed and reawakened; salvation and redemption are assured with the eternal truth as captured in St. Luke Gospel, Chapter 24:23: "Jesus is alive." Death could not hold Him down.

3.This season therefore, is one that is defined by selfless love and sacrifice, so aptly proclaimed in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many." It is a season where hope is renewed, faith strengthened, and eternal life reassured.

4. As we mark this solemn yet triumphant season, let me again thank you for your prayers and support; for the faith you have reposed in us in our drive to move the needle of development of our dear state further, based on our governance blueprint, the Arise Agenda.

5. Let me thank you for believing in our judgment over the decisions we have taken based on the overriding state interest since we last celebrated Easter.

6. Together with your overwhelming support, we made a decisive and timely Progressive movement to align our State with the Centre, and given the unfolding political dynamics today, you will agree with us that we were right in our decision.

7. Since coming into office in 2023, we have embarked on the construction of over 1,300 kilometers of roads; some inherited, while others were started and completed by our administration.

8. At our last EXCO meeting, we approved an additional 167kms of roads across the state. Some of the roads currently ongoing are scheduled to be commissioned during the celebrations marking our third year in office.

9. Today, we make bold to state emphatically that there is no local government area in this state that we have not touched, either with roads, model primary healthcare centres, model primary schools, feeder roads, general hospitals like the one in Ukanafun, and others currently under construction.

10. In collaboration with GIFA, the signature pet project of my dear wife, Her Excellency, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, and under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obarekei, we will construct, in each of the 369 wards in the state, solar-powered Braithwaite storage tank - rural water projects to ensure clean and potable water for our rural dwellers. Youth friendly centers are being built in about 14 LGAs in Phase One, aimed at channeling the creative energy of our youths in the relevant ICT/Creative industries.

11. We have intensified our push to create the agricultural revolution as outlined in our Arise Agenda with the Ibom Model Farm and other farms around the State. We are gratified to note the impact the N2 billion agricultural grant given to farmers is making, the agricultural equipment leasing company to aid farmers, and the farm inputs we have provided to farmers, which have increased yields, as well as the Palm Tree Crop Revolution which will be launched in the coming months.

12. This initiative, which will create generational wealth and, in the process, help restore the place of palm fruit as a veritable source of wealth generation for our rural dwellers, was the mainstay of our economic prosperity before the advent of crude oil.

13. The sum of N2.5 billion was recently approved by the Executive Council for the purchase of 620,000 oil palm seedlings for this noble exercise. When launched, we expect our people to get involved.

14. Recently too, we approved the sum of N20 million for ward-level Cooperative Societies in all the 369 wards in the State. The structure to manage this programme was inaugurated during our last EXCO meeting and is headed by the Deputy Governor.

15. This programme will help our people in the rural areas, especially our women, to access funds to engage in trading and other economically beneficial undertakings. Similarly, the N2 billion traders grant of 2025 , we are happy to report, is also making the expected impact and is helping farmers and traders across the state to expand their businesses, thus leading to improved living standards of our people in the rural communities.

16. To date, we have paid over N82 billion out of the N111 billion we inherited as gratuities and other emoluments of our retirees since 2012, and remain on track to liquidate the backlog, hopefully before the end of our first term in office. This was a campaign promise we made, and I’m happy to report that we are fulfilling that promise.

17. We had promised to touch the lives of the downtrodden and the most vulnerable and today, as we speak, we have built and handed over 355 Arise Compassionate Homes across the entire state, complete with solar panels to provide lights, water and also provide living grants of N500,000 each to the poor and the neediest in our society. We are well on track to building and handing over 500 units to beneficiaries across the 369 wards before the end of our first term.

18. We are investing in tourism and its ecosystem as a strategic approach to diversify our economic base beyond oil. The Arise Palm Resort, a true marvel of human ingenuity, is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year.

19. Work is ongoing at the Ibom International Hotel, the Arise City Shopping Centre, the Ibom International Convention Centre, and the Ibom International Hospital with over 24 departments, which will help promote medical tourism in the state and the nation. Renovation work is ongoing at the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort and is expected to be completed for full operations before the end of the year.

20. Apart from the above, we are currently embarking on 85 audacious projects that span all critical sectors of our growth and development across the State. This, without a shadow of doubt, you will agree with us, is truly phenomenal, and we remain dedicated to its implementation regardless of the antics of naysayers.

21. We have invested heavily in making our international airport terminal at the Victor Attah International Airport ready, preparatory to the commencement of international flights from the terminal soon by our flagship airline, Ibom Air.

22. We again thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the international status of the airport through the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, and indeed all other stakeholders in the sector.

23.We remain committed to making Ibom Air the dominant airline of choice in Nigeria. So far, since we came in, we have acquired four aircrafts, two CRJ 900 Bombardier and two A220 Air-bus for the airline.
We are expected to take delivery to take another Airbus before the end of the year.
Work is ongoing in the Aviation Village and the international medical facility at the airport, all geared towards making our state an aviation hub in the South South. We believe this will boost our tourism and improve economic activities for our people.

24.Our state still remains one of the safest in Nigeria, and we thank our security commanders posted to our state for the great work they are doing in deep collaboration with our Ibom Community Watch and the general public.

25.Let me state here in clear terms, that this administration has taken bold and decisive actions aimed at the actualization of Ibom Deep Seaport.

26.Since we came into office, we have undertaken and completed a detailed feasibility study, showing the viability of the project, which is a critical starting point in any business venture.

27.We have, for the first time, put together a comprehensive fact- sheet for prospective investors and this has ignited a lot of interest from investors.

28.We have equally constructed access road to the port and awarded the contract for onshore/ offshore geophysical studies of the port and this comprises onshore geotechnical surveys- a crucial step for any port development.

29.On the 8th of this month, the committee on the Ibom Seaport project will be addressing and providing more details on the steps we have so far undertaken to actualize Ibom Deep Seaport.

30.Let me again reemphasize that the actualization of this project is not a sprint but a marathon and we are putting the building blocks to guide us along the way. While I understand that our people are in such a hurry to realize the deep seaport, we need to follow due process and ensure that things are done right.

31.On the power sector, following the passage of the Federal Electricity Act, 2023, and the Power Summit we held last September, we have today a detailed Roadmap on Power which we are working closely with our consultant to implement.

32.Two days ago, I held a joint EXCO meeting with the Chairmen of all the 31 local government areas, where they were well briefed on the concrete plans to provide electricity for our people within the next twelve months.

33.They were also briefed on the steps to provide the unserved or off -grid areas, which is mainly in our rural areas.

34.We have consequently established the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency. The two agencies that are required by law to kickstart the process of unboarding electricity generation and distribution in our State.

35.In the coming weeks, we will announce the names of the five professionals who would run the Commission and I am hopeful that the State House of Assembly will confirm their nomination expeditiously.

36.We feel the pain that our people are going through with epileptic power supply. Even though this is a national problem, but we are on the way to provide regular electricity to our people.

37.This is not a broadcast meant to showcase our scorecard; we will do so exhaustively as we approach our third anniversary.

38.Let me assure you, my dear people, that no matter what we may be facing, we will Arise together and overcome our challenges.

39.Just as the Risen Christ brought hope, redemption and salvation, we will continue to roll our sleeves up and work to improve the welfare and well-being of our people. We will create a future that is defined by hope and faith in the ennobling ideals of a Christ-centred government we had promised you.

40.As the political season unfolds, I urge you, as I always do, to ensure that politics does not divide us; that we should play politics of conviction and not of confrontation or attrition.

41.May the joy that Easter brings fill our homes and lives with love, progress and reassure us that tomorrow, indeed, will be better than today.

42.Happy Easter to us all!

God bless Akwa Ibom State, and God bless the federal Republic of Nigeria.

IBOM POWER IS NOT FOR SALE — RATHER GOV UMO ENO IS REPAYING THE $9M AFREXIM LOAN OBTAINED BY THE COMPANY MANY YEARS AGO AND INSTITUTING FAR-REACHING POWER SECTOR REFORMS

1. The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Government has been drawn to a publication by an Uyo-based tabloid, Guide Newspaper, containing a string of false, malicious, and wholly unfounded allegations regarding the status of Ibom Power Company and the intentions of the administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno regarding the company. We wish to state unequivocally that the said publication is a wicked fabrication and should be dismissed in its entirety by the public.

2. At no time has the Government approved the sale of Ibom Power Company as scrap or otherwise. Such a claim exists only in the imagination of mischief-makers intent on misleading the public and undermining the State Government’s ongoing sector reform efforts.

3. Rather, the Akwa Ibom State Government under the purposeful leadership of Governor Umo Eno is currently repaying the $9 million Afreximbank loan secured by the company many years ago, as part of deliberate efforts to rescue and reposition Ibom Power Company for sustainable operations. In furtherance of this commitment, the Governor, on March 15, 2025, approved a structured quarterly repayment of $560,000 to progressively liquidate the facility and free the company from legacy financial encumbrances. This decisive action clearly reflects a government focused on revival, stability, and long-term value preservation, not liquidation.

4. As part of the State Electricity Reform Action plan presented to Governor Umo Eno at the State Electricity Summit held last year, and subsequently approved by him, the Akwa Ibom State Government has also commenced a structured Private Sector Participation (PSP) programme to reposition the State’s electricity sector through a concession framework covering generation and distribution assets, including Ibom Power Company Limited. The initiative is designed to attract credible private investment and technical expertise while fully retaining government ownership of all the State’s electricity assets. The following actions have been implemented:

(a) The establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission as the sector regulator;

(b) The establishment of Ibom Electricity Holdings Limited as the holding company for all State-owned electricity assets;

(c) The vesting of all shares of Ibom Electricity Holdings Limited in the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation;

(d) The introduction of reform measures aimed at ensuring proper oversight, regulation, and efficient service delivery in the State electricity sector.

5. The concession initiative, driven by the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), adopts a model deliberately structured to protect the State’s strategic interests while attracting the level of capital and technical competence required in the electricity sector. Under this framework:

(a) Qualified operators will rehabilitate, finance, operate, and expand the State’s electricity assets over a defined concession period;

(b) Clear performance benchmarks, regulatory supervision, and mandatory investment obligations will be enforced;

(c) Operational and commercial risks will be transferred from the State to competent private operators;

(d) The State will retain ownership and strategic control of all electricity assets;

(e) The model will promote disciplined investment, measurable performance standards, and the orderly resolution of legacy challenges without imposing additional fiscal pressure on the State;

(f) Key elements of the proposed framework include mandatory investment and rehabilitation obligations, clearly defined performance benchmarks, independent regulation by the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC), and strong local content and skills transfer provisions;

(g) The reform is expected to resolve legacy challenges, improve reliability, and accelerate the development of a viable electricity market, all conducted with full regulatory compliance, transparency, and in the long-term public interest.

6. The State is aware of the current power outages experienced in different parts of Akwa Ibom and states that the transmission and distribution of electricity at the moment is outside the control of the State Government. However, the State is actively engaging the relevant institutions responsible to ensure a quick resolution of the problem and to allow better supply of power to residents and businesses.

7. It is deeply troubling that Guide Newspaper appears to have consistently resorted to merchandising falsehood across its editions, raising serious questions about its editorial standards, intent, and credibility. Rather than acknowledge sincere efforts to stabilize and reposition a sector of utmost importance to the State’s developmental aspirations, the newspaper has chosen the path of mischief, distortion, and deliberate misinformation. The publishers are hereby reminded that government’s measured silence should not be mistaken for weakness, as the laws are clear on matters of libel, defamation, and the deliberate spread of falsehood. The public is therefore advised to disregard the said publication and rely only on verified and official sources for accurate information.

PoliticsHow Oluremi Tinubu And The Refreshing Rise To Renewed Hope by imMannerPhilipz(op): 7:22pm On Mar 12
HOW OLUREMI TINUBU AND THE REFRESHING RISE TO RENEWED HOPE

Essien Ndueso

On the bright morning of Saturday March 7, 2026, the streets of Akwa Ibom State thrummed with a rare sense of anticipation. The reason was historic yet symbolic: Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu,CON, had arrived for a one-day official visit to the state, bringing with her the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a social intervention platform she founded to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda.

Received by Akwa Ibom people, led by Governor Umo Bassey Eno PhD, the visit was far more than a pomp. It marked the point where two visionary agenda; Akwa Ibom’s ARISE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Initiative melted, creating a synergy for empowerment and development.

Coinciding with the 2026 International Women’s Day celebrations, the day became a testament to the power of alignment between the center and a unit. Both agenda, though operating at different levels, share a commitment to improving lives through strategic social investments, economic empowerments, and inclusive development.

At the national level, the Renewed Hope Initiative is structured around five pillars: agriculture, education, health, social investment, and economic empowerment. From the Women Agricultural Support Programme (WASP), providing grants and farm inputs to women farmers, and economic empowerment grants for petty traders, the initiative has already touched thousands across Nigeria.

Its programmes also include education and scholarship opportunities for youth, support for teenage mothers through the Alternative High School for Girls, healthcare interventions via the National Community Food Bank, environmental sustainability projects such as the Green Nigeria Challenge, and digital skills training for women in ICT.

On this day, the First Lady brought these national commitments into vivid local context. She inaugurated a Senior Citizens’ Centre named in her honour, designed to offer support, care, and recreation for elderly citizens. Later, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, she joined thousands of women in the state to celebrate the 2026 International Women’s Day, creating an emotional connection with women across Akwa Ibom State.

But beyond the celebrations, the visit showcased a deeper political and developmental alignment. Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, echoes the social investment and empowerment goals of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a convergence which positions Akwa Ibom as a strategic partner in national development.

The implications are tangible. Strengthened federal-state collaboration raises optimism for major infrastructure projects, including the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport, set to position the state as a gateway for international trade in the Gulf of Guinea, and the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which will enhance connectivity, stimulate tourism, and facilitate trade along the southern corridor.

The day’s impact extended beyond policy symbolism. Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and other local businesses saw a surge in activity as dignitaries, visitors, and media personnel converged on the state. Women felt a renewed sense of recognition, while senior citizens received financial and healthcare support through the RHI Elderly Support Scheme. In the national spotlight, Akwa Ibom’s development strides and strategic significance were celebrated and amplified.

The First Lady’s visit to the state boosted economic viability as transporters had a field day plying people to and fro the events venues. Notable was the massive influx of people into Uyo from across the state and even beyond. Of course, very infidesimal number trekked from their home.

For a stadium that has about 30,000 seating capacity, it took more than 70,000 people during the event. Out of this, 40,000 were on the terraces and about 30,000 on the open field and within the adjoining spaces outside the stadium.

Furthermore, the remarkable event, also gave a massive economic boom for petty traders, hawkers and vendors selling goods like groundnut, drinks, sachet water, oranges and beverages as they struggled to meet with the demands of customers due to the massive crowd in the stadium.

On the benefits such visit could have on a Nigerian child, especially females, without mincing words, nothing inspires more than that of a lively, cheerful, colorful, inspirational and motivational personality like the Nigerian First Lady who showed a particular demonstration of a bright future, hope and possibilities for the younger generation.

The event provided an unbelievable proximity between her and thousands of youths and young women alike, who thronged the stadium to see, feel and touch the Mother of the Nation. Her speech which resonated the importance of women and the girl child in a country was a spark for positive change and fair treatment of women.

A picture goes of a young Justin Trudeau, a toddler who fifty years ago had a handshake with the Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon during the General's visit to Canada. It was such an inspiring moment, enough to propel the young man to become the Prime Minister of Canada several years later. In the heat of Saturday’s event, who knows, several young people may have been there to have their personalities redefined by the visit of Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

There also comes the content creators, media professionals, journalists, media establishments generally, viewership. If it were to be measured by media tracking, it could be noticed that the attention of the entire country and even beyond turned momentarily on Akwa Ibom State.

Everybody was willing and yearning to catch a glimpse or read reports of how Nigeria's First Lady left Abuja to spend a whole day in Akwa Ibom State. Of course, those who have monetized their social media accounts will also have a field day rolling out images, videos of the First Lady dancing, playing table tennis, entering the gym at the Senior Citizens Centre, or dancing to Teni’s music or giving a compelling speech at the Stadium Complex.

Beyond that, it was notably an opportunity for the Akwa Ibom State women to hear firsthand the opportunities that abound in the cooperative scheme and other numerous support schemes, provided by Governor Umo Eno for the women of the state.

Unfortunately, those who waited to hear the casualty figures following the large crowd of enthusiastic supporters who filled the stadium were so disappointed because the medical emergency programme of Governor Umo Bassey Eno was activated to forestall any calamity. No casualty was recorded and the event came to an end successfully.

The medical team was on full alert with emergency numbers scrolling everywhere for people who desire immediate attention. There are States that events with lesser participation from the masses would be an opportunity for journalists to spot out gaps in the healthcare delivery system in the state.

But the event proved an opportunity for the efficiency of the medical team of the Akwa Ibom State Government and its medical emergency operations to be put on alert to ensure that no casualty, calamity or untoward situation was reported throughout the duration of the day.

Beyond that, the visit also provided an opportunity for people to come in and witness the massive transformation taking place in Akwa Ibom State. Akwa Ibom State today remains about the only state where all the local government headquarters are interlinked with a network of beautiful roads that make travelling a luxury. Governor Umo Eno is intentional about rural-urban development and has ensured road inter connectivity as key in his administration.

For the people of Akwa Ibom, the First Lady’s visit represented hope that cooperation between the state and the federal centre could unlock opportunities from social investment programmes to transformative infrastructure projects.

March 7, 2026, will be remembered not just as a day of events, but as a milestone in which Akwa Ibom charted a pathway to inclusive growth, prosperity, and deeper national integration. On this day, ARISE truly met Renewed Hope.

FIRST LADY INAUGURATES AKWA IBOM SENIOR CITIZENS’ CENTER, ADVOCATES GOV ENO’S MODEL FOR ELDERLY

Wife of the President of Nigeria, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for nationwide action to replicate Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno’s committed care and support for senior citizens.

Speaking at the commissioning of an ultra -modern senior citizens’ centre named after her by Governor Eno, the First Lady said she is always delighted with projects designed to cater for the elderly.

She appreciated the quality edifice built for the elderly by Governor Eno, stressing that the facility aligns with her vision for what an elderly citizens centre should look like.

The First Lady decried the fact that some senior citizens have become beggars due to ill health and inability to cater for their needs, and recalled that throughout her 12 years as a Senator, she was always having programmes for senior citizens.

While acknowledging that the initiative was a vision of the State's departed First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, she appreciated the Governor for advancing the vision and also for inviting her to commission the project.

She said the senior citizens’ centre is a lofty initiative which will not only provide a place for relaxation and recreation for the senior citizens, but will also make them to live younger in spirit and longer.

The First Lady also appreciated the Governor for localizing her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, and for consistently providing support for senior citizens in the State, and also urged the Senate President to revisit a bill she proposed while at the National Assembly for a law in favour of senior citizens in the country.

In his remark, Governor Umo Eno appreciated the First Lady for accepting to visit the State for the commissioning of the centre and to celebrate the International Women's Day with Akwa Ibom women.

He said the facility is the vision of his wife, Pastor Mrs Patience Eno, and formally named the centre as ‘Senator Oluremi Tinubu Senior Citizens Centre.’

The Governor who is known for his compassionate disposition, enumerated some of the strides by government to support the elderly including payment of backlog of arrears of gratuities, and monthly support for the elderly, adding that the senior citizens centre is a little way of appreciating them for their mentorship, and sacrifices to the State.

"This project aligns with your Renewed Hope Initiative, especially as it relates to elders' care. This is our own little way of saying to our elders, thank you for your service, your mentorship and your love.

"In old age, you should not walk alone, we should show our gratitude for all you have toiled and sacrificed for our State. That is what my wife used to constantly remind me that we should and must do. And I am glad today, that we have gotten this Centre up and running."

Governor Eno disclosed his administration's vision to replicate the project in the other two Senatorial Districts of the State, and a plan to send a Bill to the State House of Assembly to enact a legislation for government care for elderly citizens in the State and urged the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to work towards ensuring the speedy passage of the bill.

He assured that his administration will stop at nothing to ensure that senior citizens are given due care.

"We are a Government that is deeply connected towards ensuring the welfare of our people, especially the elders.

"Permit me Your Excellency our Mother to thank you for the great work you started through the Elderly Support Scheme, a great initiative that my wife adopted and we domesticated it in our State.

"Today, we can proudly tell you that every month across the 369 wards in our State, 600 Elders are given fifty thousand naira (N50,000) each to care for their immediate needs. Quite a number of these elders have been enrolled in our State Medical Insurance Scheme free of charge."

He commended the Delivery Advisor of the Project, Dr. Ita-Awan James for her sacrificial effort to interpret the dream through diligent and quality supervision.

He also thanked the Contractor, U&K Limited for the passion, dedication and professional engagement to ensure the timely delivery of the project.

On his part, Senate President Godswill Akpabio appreciated Governor Eno for naming the facility after the First Lady, and for his committed care for the senior citizens.

Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki appreciated the First Lady for her mentorship and for honouring the memories of her departed mother, Pastor Patient Eno with her presence.

Presenting an overview of the Project, the Delivery Advisor, Dr. James said it was designed to cater for the needs of senior citizens of the State, most of whom, according to her, have been relegated and abandoned after years of dedicated services to the State.

Dr James who described the Governor as a pragmatic, passionate and compassionate leader, said the project was designed and equipped to provide care and comfort to the elderly, and with professional care givers to give a sense of belonging to the elders, noting that the facility has a clinic for necessary health care, as well as recreational facilities for different exercises and game rooms.

The event was attended by the wife of the Senate President, Dr. (Mrs) Unoma Akpabio, Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator (Mrs) Akon Eyakeneyi, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Udeme Itong; Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Minister of State Petroleum Resources (gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo; wives of State governors, Wives of national Assembly members, wives of Ministers, and others.

PoliticsWho Will Save Michael Bush From Self-harm by imMannerPhilipz(op): 9:50pm On Mar 06
AKWA IBOM PATRIOTIC VANGUARD

Who will save Michael Bush from self-harm?

We are genuinely concerned about the mental health of Michael Bush who obviously is laden with long-term grudges and resentment against Gov. Umo Eno. Last year, he wrote a series of insulting and abusive articles in his newspaper column against the governor, clearly a portrayal of bile and hate. We understand that he is suffering from a crisis of unmet expectations that afflicts many in the political arena. Bush has confided in some people that he had borrowed money from Mr. Ubong Obot - better known by his business name as ‘’Ubotex’’ - to “ Support” Pastor Umo Eno’s election in 2023. The governor, Bush claims, has since refused to pay him back the loan, and so he’s still indebted to Ubotex. Ubotext has vehemently denied such transaction ever occurred with Bush.

Ubotex it must be stated, himself has no problem with this governor. He has been actively participating in the activities of ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative (AWRHI), the governor’s main support group.

Last week, the cement merchant donated handsomely to the group when they visited Ibesikpo-Asutan, his LGA.

Ubotex also participated actively in recent pre-congress meetings and consultations in his LGA, and in all his speeches and remarks, he has good things to say about the governor.

We also understand that Bush is angry with Gov. Eno because he was not appointed commissioner when the governor constituted his government in 2023 and 2025.

Bush believes that he had invested so much in Eno’s election in 2023, that he deserved a place in the cabinet. Obviously, he has been under severe pain and mental distress from this disappointment. We wonder what those “ investments “ actually were! Every “ investment “ Michael Bush may have made, in the media flank was paid for and he knows this, to be true.

Since last year when many people intervened, Bush had been managing his pain well until last week when his seething resentment against the governor seemed to have finally reached a boiling point. He wrote another corrosive, angry and rage-filled piece in which he insulted and assaulted the governor in the most despicable manner.

From the article, it is obvious that Bush is still carrying bitterness and hatred in his heart. We are afraid for him because such long term anger, according to medical psychologists, impacts mental and physical health negatively by inducing chronic stress, anxiety, depression and lowered immunity.

In fact, studies indicate that long-term resentment could lead to inflammation, heart diseases, depression, intense obsessive thought patterns, diabetes, arthritis and potential cancer progression. Who will save Michael Bush from harming himself?

Since the governor and Ubotex have disavowed any financial dealings with Bush, it is possible that Bush might be imagining things. We may be dealing with a chronic case of delusions.

To feel entitled to a cabinet appointment when no such promise was made by the governor is also a big problem.

A mindset that is characterized by an irrational belief that one is owed special treatment, recognition, or rewards simply because of who they think they are reveals a serious underlying psychological problem.

Entitlement mentality manifests in different ways, notably in persistent discontentment, greed and narcissistic tendencies.

Michael Bush has a track record that defines him and requires further investigations. In 2011, he contested for the PDP ticket for Uruan State Constituency, but lost to Obong Kufre Etuk. With the loss, he flew into a rage and started throwing tantrums everywhere. There is nothing he did not say about the then governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.

In 2013, he moved to Obong Umana Okon Umana, who was then preparing to contest the 2015 governorship election. Umana pampered him and gave him an office inside his expansive residential compound. But soon after he joined the Umana team, Bush fell out with the man, accusing Umana’s wife of being disrespectful to him, and castigating Umana himself for not giving him an SUV, just as he gave his Campaign DG. What a character! Bush then relocated to Abuja and later relocated to the State and served in the government of the immediate past Governor, Udom Emmanuel, where he again complained of being sidelined and didn’t contribute meaningfully to advance the cause of that administration.

He now claims that the governor is owing him. Our man needs help.

Clearly, we are dealing with a very arrogant man with oversized ego and a compulsive sense of self importance. Bush actually believes that he’s the most brilliant Akwa Ibom man who should be pampered and spoilt with whatever he wants. Everybody, including the governor, should be at his beck and call. If he doesn’t get what he thinks he wants, he sulks all year around and goes into fits of anger. This is a condition that American Psychological Association has diagnosed as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Who will save Michael Bush?

Appointment into senior government jobs is at the discretion of the governor who must necessarily obtain background information on all would-be appointees. Pastor Umo Eno must have known Bush better than we know him. We urge Michael Bush to move on and purge himself of all animosities against this governor.

"Please permit me at this point to deeply and most profoundly commend my daughter and the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Obareki for the great work she and her team have done in keeping this dream alive," he added.

Governor Eno used the opportunity to appreciate the First Lady of Nigeria, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for the mentorship, and guidance extended to the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, and also congratulated her on her award as the Leadership Newspaper “ Person of the Year” 2026.

He also appreciated the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum, especially the wives of the Governors of Abia, Plateau and Edo States who were in attendance, for the love shown; the GIFA partners for their faith and steadfast support, and the people of Akwa Ibom State for their prayers and support.

Speaking on the oil wells issue, he reassured the people that the State's ownership of 76 Oil Wells is absolutely incontestable and sacrosanct based on two valid judgments of Nigeria's Supreme Court to that effect.

"Let me take this moment once again to reassure our people concerning the much- talked about oil wells. Let me say this loud and clear: there is no cause for alarm concerning our God-given resources.

"We have two Supreme Court judgments affirming our State's ownership of the 76 Oil Wells. No committee and no government parastatal can overturn Supreme Court judgment. Akwa Ibom State does not have a maritime boundary with Cross River State but with Cameroun.

"Any attempt to shift that boundary will be tampering with the International Court of Justice's judgment, and Nigeria as a law-abiding country will never go there.

He expressed trust in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as a strong lover and believer in the rule of law, declaring that "Akwa Ibom State will not cede any inch or one oil well belonging to the State to anyone.

"Our society is guided and shaped by the rule of law. Supreme Court has given his ruling twice on the oil well issue in our favour, and those rulings are sacrosanct. And, those oil wells belong to Akwa Ibom State.

The Governor went on to reaffirm the support of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, stating that “ we are rooting, supporting, and campaigning for him, and our State is working effectively to ensure he is returned for 2nd term come 2027, alongside our illustrious son, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, GCON.”

While he enumerated some of the life - touching projects of the State, the Governor implored the citizenry to continue to pursue the path of peace as continued development and progress of the State can only be sustained in the face of peace, love and unity.

Speaking on behalf of the wives of Governors in attendance, Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs.Priscilla Otti, commended Coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki for the impact recorded by the pet project, and assured of support and collaboration where necessary to achieve more.

In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, on behalf of the women, felicitated GIFA for its impactful projects and programmes, appreciated Governor Eno for his gender- friendly disposition and assured that women will continue to remain strong partners of GIFA.

Also speaking, Senator Effiong Bob eulogized the legacies of the departed initiator of GIFA, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, and the good works of GIFA, and assured of continuous support for more impact.

The emotion -laden event which coincided with the posthumous birthday of the departed First Lady, featured anniversary lecture by Amb. Mfon Ekpo, Chief Executive Officer, the Discovery Center/Founding Partner & Executive Director, Maxwell Leadership Certified Team, testimonies of the impact of the organisation within the last two years, cultural dance, and presentation of awards to winners of different events.

OIL WELLS: AKWA IBOM’S OWNERSHIP NON-NEGOTIABLE

— MBOHO MKPARAWA IBIBIO

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, the foremost socio-cultural organisation of the Ibibio people and the fourth largest ethnic nationality in Nigeria, with chapters worldwide, has taken note of renewed claims by Cross River State concerning oil wells lawfully attributable to Akwa Ibom State — including the 76 wells judicially affirmed by the courts, as well as references to additional wells recently introduced into public discourse.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Supreme Court of Nigeria on 24 June 2005 dismissed Cross River State’s claim over the southern estuarine boundary, thereby retaining the 76 oil wells in Akwa Ibom State. The Court held that, following the 10 October 2002 judgment of the International Court of Justice in the Nigeria–Cameroon land and maritime boundary case, Cross River State’s southern estuarine boundary had ceased to exist.

This position was reaffirmed on 10 July 2012 in Suit No. SC.27/2010, when the Supreme Court again upheld Akwa Ibom State’s ownership.

Subsequent historical and legal developments — including the 2002 ICJ ruling and the 2006 Green Tree Agreement, which formalised the cession of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon — altered Cross River State’s littoral status. These binding realities define the legal framework within which offshore and littoral entitlements must be determined.

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio notes with concern certain inflammatory statements reportedly emanating from the Government of Cross River State and some of its agents. Such rhetoric risks generating avoidable tension between two sister states bound by history, culture, commerce and enduring kinship. Akwa Ibom and Cross River are kindred peoples; these fraternal bonds must never be sacrificed on the altar of narrow interests or transient political ambitions. Where concerns arise, they should be addressed in a brotherly and constitutional manner — through lawful channels, mutual respect and constructive engagement.

We commend the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his mature, measured and statesmanlike handling of this matter, and for consistently defending the interests of the State with courage and restraint.

We further call upon the relevant federal agencies — including the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, the National Boundary Commission, and the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission — not to be swayed by propaganda or political persuasion, but to remain guided strictly by the law, particularly the judgments of the nation’s apex court and all subsisting legal instruments governing this matter.

While remaining peaceful and law-abiding, we shall firmly defend every resource lawfully accruing to Akwa Ibom State under the Constitution, established boundaries and binding judicial authority.

We therefore reiterate unequivocally:

All oil wells lawfully attributable to Akwa Ibom State remain settled, protected and non-negotiable.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Utilizes Its Resources For Development – Premium Times Got It Wrong by imMannerPhilipz(op): 4:10pm On Feb 18
18th February, 2026

PRESS RELEASE

AKWA IBOM STATE UTILIZES ITS RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT – PREMIUM TIMES GOT IT WRONG

1. The Government of Akwa Ibom State has taken note of a recent report by Premium Times which attributed revenue figures to the State and proceeded to draw sensational comparisons between different fiscal periods without adjusting for value erosion, exchange rate realities, inflationary pressures, or corresponding development outcomes.

2. The headline may have been crafted for drama; governance, however, is not evaluated through nominal arithmetic stripped of economic context. It must be assessed through real value analysis, purchasing power considerations, fiscal discipline, institutional strengthening, and tangible, verifiable outcomes.

3. To compare revenue figures from 2015–2020 with those of 2023–2026 without adjusting for currency depreciation and prevailing market prices of goods and services is fundamentally misleading. Within this period, the Naira depreciated from under ₦300 to the dollar to over ₦1,600, significantly eroding purchasing power despite nominal increases in revenue figures.

4. When nominal numbers are presented without adjusting for inflation, exchange rate depreciation, and the sharp rise in the cost of construction inputs, energy, imported components, and logistics, the result is a sensational headline — not serious economic analysis.

5. We are therefore compelled to state that such value-blind comparisons suggest mischief. As the political season gradually unfolds, certain interests may attempt to distort facts and paint this administration in undeserved colours. We will not be distracted.

6. Let it be stated clearly: this Government will never be drawn into unnecessary comparisons with previous administrations. Every administration did its best within the realities of its time. Each operates with its own vision, blueprint, priorities, and prevailing economic conditions. Comparisons designed to mislead the public do not reflect the true state of governance in Akwa Ibom State.

7. For the avoidance of doubt, the Government has publicly published the State’s financial accounts for 2023 and 2024, underscoring its commitment to transparency and accountability. A comprehensive list of ongoing and completed projects is available for public scrutiny.

8. Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, and in strict implementation of the ARISE Agenda, apart from model schools and health centres in all 31 local government areas that have been commissioned at various times, there are 85 other mega priority projects currently ongoing in the State. These include audacious investments in tourism, healthcare, infrastructure, security, aviation, maritime development, housing, commerce, education, and institutional infrastructure. The ARISE Palm Resort has transformed 73 hectares of gully erosion landscape into a world-class Business and Leisure Park. The 350-bed Ibom International Hospital is progressing alongside 31 Model Primary Healthcare Centres and the Ibom Medical Corridor. Governance and security infrastructure include the Command and Control Centre; Judiciary Village; Governor’s Office Annex; rehabilitation of the House of Assembly Complex; Court of Appeal Complex; AKWAGIS Office Complex; AKBC House; and the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways Complex.

9. Additional flagship priority projects include: Aviation Village; Equipment Leasing Company; the 18-storey Ibom Tower; Ewet Luxury Gardens and its internal roads; refurbishment of Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort; CNG Mass Transit Scheme; Ibom International Convention Centre; Ibom Hotels (Uyo and Abuja); ARISE Shopping City; Executive and Legislative Quarters; Model Secondary School; International Market; ARISE Sports Academy; Police CTU; General Hospital, Nsit Ubium; Correctional Centre; AKSU Teaching Hospital; Itam Industrial Park; Presidential Lodge; NYSC Orientation Camp; solar-powered lighting across police stations; reclamation and erosion control projects; modern trailer park; One Project Per LGA (Phase 2); extensive internal road networks; as well as eleven critical aviation ecosystem projects, including the International Terminal Building, taxiway and apron expansion, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, aviation security upgrades, and supporting infrastructure. Maritime investments include turnkey jetty construction, ferry terminals, shoreline protection infrastructure, cold-room and warehouse facilities, and passenger ferry boats.

10. Beyond the 85 Priority Projects, over 1,200 kilometres of roads have been completed or are ongoing across the 31 Local Government Areas. Strategic bridges have been delivered, and erosion control works are protecting communities. In addition, over 200 kilometres of rural access roads are being delivered under the AKS-RAAMP programme. Sixty Nigeria for Women Projects, implemented with State counterpart funding, are empowering women-led economic clusters across the State.

11. In agriculture and food security, the Ibom Model Farms fast developing and will drive mechanized farming, agro-processing, and structured participation in commercial agriculture, thereby strengthening food security and agro- tourism.

12. Simultaneously, this administration inherited a gratuity and other emoluments backlog of over ₦111 billion dating back to 2012 and has, to date, paid over ₦80 billion. The new minimum wage of ₦80,000, with consequential adjustments, has significantly increased the State’s wage bill, yet salaries remain consistent and gratuity obligations are being steadily addressed. Contractor obligations are met through due payment certificates, while projects initiated by previous administrations are being completed.

13. Beyond infrastructure, compassion has been institutionalized in governance. Under the ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative, 335 homes have already been constructed out of the 500 planned for the homeless and most vulnerable citizens. Through the Free Food Distribution Programme, over 600,000 households have received staple food support. Additionally, over ₦20 billion has been invested in citizen empowerment initiatives. The people of Akwa Ibom can see the results — workers are paid, retirees are receiving long-awaited gratuities, vulnerable citizens are being housed, families are supported, infrastructure is expanding, and governance is working.

14. These are measurable projects and verifiable outcomes — not speculative or politically motivated conjecture. Arithmetic without economic context may generate headlines; it cannot generate reality.

15. The administration of Governor Umo Eno remains focused on delivering people-oriented projects, strengthening institutions, deepening transparency, and ensuring that governance serves the best interests of all Akwa Ibom people. We remain steadfast and resolute in building a prosperous, inclusive, and accountable Akwa Ibom State.

PoliticsGovernor Eno Releases Additional N2.3bn For Payment Of Gratuities by imMannerPhilipz(op): 8:16am On Feb 18
BREAKING NEWS

Governor Eno Releases Additional N2.3bn for Payment of Gratuities
…Total payment made now stands at almost N80bn from total inherited backlog of N111bn

In fulfillment of his promise to the Akwa Ibom people to continually pay down the backlog of gratuities, a fact he emphasized during the presentation of the 2026 Budget, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, has released an additional sum of N2.3 billion for the payment of gratuities.

With the release of this amount, Governor Eno has so far paid about N80 billion in gratuities and other emoluments since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

It will be recalled that on assumption of office, the Governor met a backlog of N111 billion in gratuities and other emoluments dating back to 2012.

Governor Eno had promised during the 2023 campaigns to regularly release funds to pay down the backlog, a promise he has been keeping with passion and intensity.

The payment of gratuities ties into a key focus of his administration, which is social investment and a commitment to compassionate and altruistic pursuits.

The Governor had made this point clear in his inaugural address, promising to be the voice and symbol of the vulnerable, drawing from his life story of triumph over adversity.

Today, nearly three years after coming into office, 335 ARISE Compassionate Homes have been built and handed over to beneficiaries, and he remains on track to fulfill the promise of building and delivering 500 units in his first term in office.

Fifty elders continue to receive N50,000 monthly support on a rotational basis drawn from all 368 wards in the state through the ARISE Elderly Care Initiative, alongside over 10,000 of the most vulnerable who have been enrolled in the ARISE Medical Insurance Scheme free of charge.

He is doing all these while still executing audacious projects that cut across tourism, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, power, among others.

Governor Eno is indeed walking the talk. The people are happy, and it can only get better.
