As an automobile consultant, late last year I took a client to go and inspect a Nigerian used Toyota Camry 2008 Model (muscle/spider) he wanted to buy. The body of the car was good. The engine sounded ok. The drive had few noises which I felt were manageable.

I now decided to check the mileage and the stalk was broken off. But because the mileage was stuck on Trip B, I decided to confirm so I used my own car's key and pressed the stalk and nearly passed out.

The mileage reading was 350,000 miles. I converted it to kilometers and it was 600,000 kilometers.

I quietly told the client we needed to leave and will get back to the seller.

So far that's the highest mileage I have seen for a private saloon car.

Would you buy such a Toyota Camry?

Na price keep ham, although the owner too was being reluctant to fix the handle n windscreen, of which he has agreed to do for any buyer now. Thanks for your follow up

After extensive test drive, seem to understand the problems of this car a little more.

The check engine light is gone and there are no errors on the engine or transmission ECU

But

1. 2nd gear does not engage: initially after the first test drive, what I thought was a delayed shift from 1-2 was actually a shift from 1-3! 2nd gear seems to be missing, we will search for it tommorow

2. Battery or starter motor bad: vehicle cranks well from cold position, but when hot cranks really slow, and basically shuts down all the electronics of the car when that happens.

3. When car is cranked from hot temp, it tends to reset engine ecu, due to extreem drop in voltage caused by bad starter or battery, this causes the engine ecu to start a throttle re-learn function, and gives a very low idle.

Armed with this new info will take out starter motor and check transmission tommorow.
