chukel: please don't go this route. I know how it eventually ends. New tranny. Btw, what transmission codes are you pulling? None sir. No codes at all. I have drained and refilled twice with WS . same issue( 2-3 shift flare, 4-5 shift flare for the first 10-15 minutes of driving). After it has warmed up, flare goes away. But then I experience harsh engagement into reverse from neutral to reverse, and P to R. Harsh downshifts ( particularly 5-4), 3-2, 2-1. Note that when fluid was replaced the first time, fluid was dark( but not burnt), but did not notice any shiny metallic particles in the pan ( except the magnet particles of course). Filter was changed. I understand the valvebody operation is PWM( pulse width modulated) which over time causes valvebody wear in the main pressure valve bore. Now, the dilemma : Replace valvebody with a brand new unit, or replace Tranny? Cc. Kashif |

Smartchoiice: No I don't believe you. This looks more like an attempt to blackmail someone which turned awry.... I'll suggest you apologize to the fellow you attempted to defame. Seller has proposed to take the car for free fixing.... Even sent a driver to pick it up... Please fear God!! Radautoworks wouldn't do more than same for you. I really don't appreciate your approach Believe me, if it was you that spent 3 million on a car that you expected zero problems after trusting the PPI to someone you least expect to disappoint, and it has the problems you quoted ( and more that I chose not to mention here) , you would be very puerile in your demeanour. Infact, you will bring the whole Nairaland down, following your interesting reputation. But you see, that is where we are different. I perfectly understand the power of restraint. It is not about fear, dude. It is about Power. Power is nothing without control. And next time, try to get the bird eye view of a story, before you make utterances. It helps . It helps. |

nurey: I can't really say but EOD and DC were K24A while the Evil Spirit was K24Z so both Engines are different their transmission could also be different though they are both 5speed auto Their transmissions are different. Infact the 2008 accord 2.4 comes with 2 different engine variants: K24Z2( LX and LXP) and K24Z3 (EX) Two different transmissions, with unique gear ratios. It cannot be interchanged. |

nurey: The accord.with the light line is a facelift 11 upwards or so.
1. Accord EX-L Camry XLE
2. Camry has problem with the 2.4L in 07 to 09 and the 13pin gear is sensitive, the compressor too fails and expensive
The accord 2.0L Engine is scarce in the market but the 2.4 is ok, it doesn't have much of an issue but won't take abuse like a Camry.
3. Toyota dey sell like HOT Akara and pap on a cold morning
4. The accord Engine is expensive than Camry but I am not sure about the transmission.
Other things to look out for Don't buy stolen, lemon, no duty vehicle shikena The transmission for the 2.4 sells for 95k(as at 2015) Luvinhubby |

radautoworks: Which is the bigger gamble, a new valve body or a tokunbo transmission (bearing in mind you don't know the source or if it's worse off than yours)? I recommend you search and import valve body yourself. May be cheaper.
https://www.google.com/search?q=2008+es350+valve+body&oq=2008+es350+valve+body&aqs=chrome..69i57.10359j0j4&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 True. And I have not ruled that out (yet). I am still doing my diagnosis. I have performed 2 drain and refill to ensure that there are no fine metal particles in the slushbox( although, none was noticed at no he first drain and refill) The U660E transmission has had a history of failed center bearing /snap ring setup in which the casing housing such bearing wears out and sends out very fine metal all around the gearbox. This cannot be captured by the filter and it ultimately gets into the valvebody bores, wearing them down and cause all kinds of shifting problems( flaring when cold is the most noticeable problem) I have ordered to Toyota techstream version 14 which should help me with the soft side of the diagnosis |

Smartchoiice: My advice: call the seller...bear the costs of the replacement transmission together! To be truthful sir, he has been very helpful and supportive and has emphasized with me. He has offered to fix the car at his own cost ( I will bear transport cost), which I declined because I can fix it myself( the problem is not beyond me, given my experience with my KIA Optima transmission ). Truth is we are all human and never perfect. There is a lesson learnt by both parties and he still remains a friend and a brother. I will still recommend him to whoever needs his service. Defective parts ( e.g door handle) has been supplied to me to fix at no cost. |

Car Talk › Re: How To NEVER Fall Prey To Fraudulent Car Dealers And Problematic Cars. by Inception(m): 4:52pm On Jan 23, 2020 |
promotervickky: If you live in Nigeria and you are looking forward to buying a car soon, what I’m about to reveal will save you from:
1. Losing your hard-earned money to dubious car dealers.
2. Buying a car that looks good in the beginning only to start generating incessant faults in three to four months.
3. Unwanted police arrest and custom cases that turn the joy of getting a new car into an agonizing series of regrets.
Recently, an embarrassing case was brought to my notice.
After paying N3.2 million for the Lexus and handing over his Camry 2.4 to his wife, the next day, he decided to go celebrate his new car with his friends.
On his way, tragedy appeared in the form of Nigerian Custom officers.
“Park there… Park there… Let me see your papers” the officer told him.
His friends were already waiting for him… in order to catch up, he quickly brought out the car’s document and gave it to the officers.
The next thing that came out from the officer's mouth, left him in shock.
These custom papers are fake!
Jerry could not believe his ears. The car dealer his friend recommended had assured him that ALL the car papers are genuine.
The question now is… who is lying? The custom officers or the car dealer.
This brings me to one mistake any Benin resident must avoid when buying a new car.
You must realize that...
The job of a car dealer is to sell cars and make maximum profit… and they will say anything to make you buy the car… even lying. Some are that heartless.
LESSON #1: Never take the words of a car dealer or seller for what it is.
If you don’t know how to tell if the car papers are genuine or not, take a photocopy of the car papers and have them verified by any custom official you know.
Nowadays, many cars are being smuggled into the country. Car dealers do this for two reasons.
1. To import substandard cars that don’t meet up with the Nigerian Customs requirement and sell for huge profits.
2. To avoid paying the customs charges associated with importing cars… so they can make a bigger profit --- even if it is at the expense of the buyer.
That was how Jerry’s N3.2 million Lexus Rx330 was pounded by the Customs officers and immediately, he called the car dealer.
The car dealer said that can’t be true.
The papers are genuine, the car dealer kept saying over the phone.
After many backs and forth, one of the officers told Jerry to put the call on loudspeaker.
The officers then threatened the car dealer… if he doesn’t confess now, they’ll take his business address and come for him squarely.
That was when the car dealer finally opened up and started confessing that of a truth, he brought the car into the country via land border and they had to make up the papers to make the car sellable.
Jerry was already going gaga. In his head, he was like… na so my N3.2 million go take loss.
Having the evidence they needed, the officers took the car to their office and told Jerry to claim it with N1 million naira.
Watch out for Lesson #2 tommorrow. Drop a comment to follow and ask your questions if any. Nice one. |
