All I would say is:

Forget all the hype here of 'professionals' on this forum that do PPI (all na wash). In the end, you may be in a far better position to make a more informed decision on the purchase of your vehicles. Do your research!

Please always do due diligence and be well informed of the quirks and likely problems your proposed car might have when purchasing your intended vehicle. It is your money!

Please make out time for yourself! Be there physically, whether you employ the services of a PPI specialist or not! If he/she declines, walk away! In the end that time(and money) you are trying to save , you will spend both that time and money in all mechanic workshops you can think of!

Finally, Please take your time and be patient!(this has always been my weakpoint). That good ride will surely come!

As for me, It is well. It is not everything you need to raise dust for.

Fluid was replaced and filter was washed. The symptoms still persist( but reduced)

This is sad.

The Lexus Es and early U660E transmissions are not so Solid.
They had few defects .
Many torque converter issues.
Shudder between 35-44 kmph while switching to 3rd gear .
Etc .

Some of them can be solved with atf change. Some issues which you have to live with forever, unless you wish to Replace the gear box or rebuild .

The 07 lexus es has some of this issues

Best case, ECU programming. Worst case, you already know. Slim chance valve body or TCM. Was the car worked on before you bought it? If you can find out, what was the last thing worked on?

Actually I thought that it was most likely a valvebody problem. I have been reading recently that early model U660E transmission was notorious for having valvebody problems. The TCU however is another kettle of fish

I intend replacing the fluid today to see how it goes. Replacing the fluid it temperature dependent so I have to prepare for that

Hi guys,

3 weeks ago I recently purchased a Toks 2008 Lexus ES 350 from Lagos.
Upon arrival I noticed a slightly harsh 1-2 shift ( which was quite unusual for a U660E transmission, as I have driven many) amongst other minor nuances.

But my current worry now is that on a typical cold start, I noticed a quite serious 2-3 shift flare and 4-5 shift flare( which is even worse than the 2-3 flare), accompanied by the occasional 1-2 harsh shift. But after like 7 minutes of driving, the shift flare is gone( but the 1-2 harsh shift is still there).
Also noticeable is a harsh engagement into reverse from Neutral or park. Shifting from Drive to reverse and vice versa is quite smooth

So far I have not done anything to the transmission ( nothing has been touched)

No transmission code is present.

Pls help advise me on what to do because it is becoming a source of worry that the transmission may pack up soon

You can even get fully rebuilt engines for clasic cars from the '60s if you know where to go. i keep telling you you arent as knowledgeable as you as you like to think. if you think manufacturers stop making a part just because a model is not in production, it just shows how ignorant and dare I say stupid you are. secondly the blog you posted which quoted $71,000, I dont doubt that Engine is probably around 40-50K but the 71K includes installation charges and is an insurance job. anyone who has lived abroad knows you will usually get 2 quotes, one for private (paying yourself) and one for insurance Insurance quotes are always higher.


More importantly your statement "Getting one from AMG directly costs about $54k" has been nulified. You made a blanket statement that an amg engine costs $45000, as if AMG only make one type of Engine.....and that is my point. You think you have knowledge but you are a schoolboy.


I have shown that you can get an AMG engine for less than $10k and a used one for much less nullyfying your original post. Anything else you are saying is just drivel!!!
